work quality seemed fine, but sale pitch was very pushy and when a large cost-overrun occurred, the owner refused to give a detailed accounting of the costs.

The masons arrived on time, were courteous, set up the necessary staging to do the work on our 2-story home. The work was completed in 24 hours (2 men on the job). They took photos of the work so we could see how it looked because we weren't about to climb the staging to see the results. They were careful not to damage the rubber roofing on our balcony deck where the staging was set up. They were also careful about our shrubs and lawn. The premises were clean when they left. Their prices are high, but their work is guaranteed for 40 years.

They did a wonderful job. They were very clean which I learned after watching some neighbors who had work done by other contractors is very important and their work lasts. That is why you do this work and after all these years I can said Sprague's work has stood up well over time.

THE BEST ROOFERS AROUND!!! The customer service this company provides is outstanding. This company is thorough and provides so much more than just a roof. To start, the girls in the office are so professional and helpful. The entire crew was so knowledgable and walked me and my wife through the entire process. G.f. Sprague provides VALUE and understands why communication is so important. I am never getting burnt by another bad roofer again! All in all, Sprague is the company I will recommend to everyone.

I DID NOT HIRE GF SPRAGUE for my house roof. Over the phone, he was very professional. He came but he wouldn't give me the quote unless my husband was with me(felt insulted). He presented the quote to both of us. The price tag was over the TOP compared to other quotes (way way too much!!). The attitude and tone of his sales tactic were very insulting (and bullying) to both of us. We looked at each other we couldn't wait to kick him out of our property. Every time, I see GF SPRAGUE sign out in somebody's house, I re-experienced this sick feeling in my gut.

Very professional over the phone, someone (Mark) was scheduled to come for a quote a couples weeks later. He came as planned, spoke with me for a few minutes and went on to look around and measure what they needed for the quote, telling me they'll come back to discuss the project. I have gotten many quotes over the past year for a lot of major projects, and it was the first time iIm not just getting the estimate mailed or emailed. be it. A few weeks went by, and I heard nothing so I called to hear they left me a voice mail (that I never got and have have no trace of). I requested the quote, and was told that I need to schedule a time for Mark to come back. again a few weeks out, fine. On the day of his visit, he just said he won't talk to me unless my husband was present. Are we back in 1950? did I miss the memo that women cannot take decisions for the house? No one mentioned over the phone that my husband needed to be present, and if they did they would have heard that he is busy and would not make time for this. I have signed a lot of contracts for a lot of far more extensive work on the house, and that was a first.Mark left, and I I'll probably never see that quote. I may be a woman but I know far more about home repair than my husband. I have a checkbook, and made countless decisions without him ever questioning them when it comes to this kind of issues. Mark said it was about communication, and to avoid getting disputes later. The only other stories of businesses requiring both spouses to be present I've heard are in the cases of shady high-pressure sales tactics. Sounds This whole thing was a big waste of time. over a month went by since my initial call and all i got is aggravation. I wish I had known from the beginning and would have never called them in the first place. I'm so upset i'm considering talking to my lawyer friend who specializes in discrimination?. UPDATE: I see GF Sprague posted a response to my review. just to clarify, what ever quote they mention I have never said. what I have said after the company called 3 times to try to convince me to remove my review is that "i was treated poorly, angle's list is a forum for customers to relate their experience. That is exactly what I did and I do not care if it hurts the company." the response of Jake Sprague over the phone was that they were in business for XX years and my review was not going to hurt their business. then why worry so much about it and write such a response? Not only this whole situation was extremely hurtful, it is appalling that this company is putting words in my mouth I have never said.

This is among the most professional and wonderful companies I have ever dealt with. I first called them during a horrible flash flood storm when my gutters seemed to be failing and water was pouring in some of our windows. The phone call was answered promptly and Karina was efficient and kind in finding us an appointment quickly. She also explained their emergency service which I will definitely consider using in the future (but hopefully wont ever need). Marc came to our home only a few days later and gave us a professional and thorough consultation. At the end, I was far less panicked and have a clear plan for how to proceed. I cannot more highly recommend this company and will definitely keep them in our files for any future needs. Thank you!

I first used GF Sprague on an emergency basis to clear an ice dam that was causing leaks in the building where I am a condo trustee. They had been responsive and helpful then, so when it came time to do a more extensive roof repair, I contacted them for an estimate. They got back to me quickly (other roofers didn't even answer the phone), and were quick to provide an estimate (with several pricing options, which was very helpful). Based on their presentation, the trustees felt very confident going forward with the work. I'm not a roofer, so I can't evaluate the workmanship except to say it was done cleanly and efficiently -- and after several months of hard rain, there's been no recurrence of the leak the repair targeted. The other trustees and I are very satisfied. And though it's not an absolute requirement for a roofer, it's been a real plus that everyone I've interacted with at Sprague has been conscientious, pleasant, and easy to work with.

Went up on roof to inspect and will be replacing some worn shingles to keep roof in proper form.we called sprague as they have provided roofing services at my primary home in Dover with utmost care and quality . thus I felt they would be reliable and do this job with integrity .

He and his crew were great to work with. They were extremely knowledgable and pleasant. They took the time before and during the project to really explain the various parts of the process and applications and the reasons for them. They left my property cleaner than when they arrived. These shingles were suppose to be 25 year shingles but at around 30 years they were still doing their job; no leaks, no missing shingles, no hassles. About four years ago I put additions on to my home and changed the color and replaced the shingles by someone local who was a friend of my wife. It was really difficult for me because I'm a person who hates change of any kind, especially when I've had an experience that was well beyond expectations. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend GF Sprague. As a matter of fact, I recently called him to look at another home I recently purchased in Marshfield and plan on him doing a badly needed roof on that property later this summer or early next spring.

After a terrible experience with a company now out of business, I called Sprague Roofing to repair work done and for new work. I met Jerry Sprague who provided a very detailed explanation of his company, their approach to roofing, their experience, and their contract. Soon after, their crew led by a wonderful man arrived. Their work was flawless including their ability to identify the existing slate, then more than sixty years old, and their ability to locate a supply, Over time, they installed copper gutters, which are remarkable in appearance and performance, replaced all of the metal work, fixed ice dam related problems, and installed chimney caps. Their suggestion for a metal roof on a new addition and their installation of the roof was a beautiful and cost effective alternative to a full slate roof. When I have called them with several difficult issues including leaks where the source was unclear (and in areas of the roof they had not worked on), they were able to determine the source of the leak and the best method of repair. Each spring, the crew chief walks my roof, identifies any repairs due to winter damage, and schedules and completes the repairs. I could not ask for better work, a more professional company, more in-depth knowledge of the best roofing practices and standards, or a better long term relationship based upon trust and performance. The only reason I have not entered a cost for their service is that they have completed jobs of different scopes over ten years. A single cost figure would be very misleading to anyone reading this review. If you want the lowest bid, don't call GF Sprague. If you want the best job, done right and on time, call GF Sprague. In fact, when the job done by the lowest bidder has a problem, you will know who to call.

I contacted G.F. Sprague to check out my slate roof and flat rubber roof.They were very responsive. Jerry, the founder and owner, met with me and examined both the slate and flat roofs as well as the chimney carefully and recommended replacing two copper channels and the spalled bricks before winter. His team, Eric and Dean, started work within two weeks. Both were very professional, cleaned up every day, and made sure I was kept abreast of the job status. They finished the job on schedule and on budget. I highly recommend their services.

THIS WAY YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHEN THEY ARE COMING AND WHEN THE FOLLOW UP MEETING WILL TAKE PLACE. THEY DID A VERY THOROUGH ASSESSMENT WITH DETAILED OUT LINE OF WHAT IS INVOLVED AND THE COSTS. Our house at 20 Conant Road has several flat roofs. In 2013 we engaged G.F. Sprague to repair three roofs, one of which covers a breezeway 30 feet long from the house to the garage. On the north side of the breezeway are sliding barn doors. I pointed out to Sprague’s marketing man that there should be enough of an overage on the roof to ensure that rain water running off the roof did not run down the doors. The previous roofer dealt with this problem with scuppers which Sprague planned to remove. At the completion of the job I found Sprague failed to install an overhang so water from the roof ran down the barn doors. When I pointed out this failure to Sprague I was charged an additional $3,585 to install an overhang. I had reasonably assumed the overhang was in Sprague’s original quote as I had made it aware of the problem. In effect I was charged extra to correct Sprague’s mistake.

Basically they arrived on timely schedule. They went right to the job and finished it within five hours. They did an amazing job cleaning up. The roof looks great and I had one major rain storm since then all leaks that were there before have been fixed. The production manager Bob showed up to do a joint final inspection to assure that the work was done to my satisfaction. The workmen were very polite and professional. I would highly recommend using GF Sprague for any roofing or chimney work that is required.

In short, they did a fantastic job. I had worked with a few other roofers previously for small leaks, and GF Sprague is in another league when it comes to responsiveness and overall customer service. The quality of their work is also exceptional, and because they have their own metal shop, they can custom-design flashing at a quality level far in excess of that which is commercially available through other companies. They come by and give a comprehensive review of the company, their recommended repairs, and options for pricing before drawing up a quote, which I see as a distinct advantage over simply sending out a pricing estimate without context. When you're spending a lot of money on these sort of repairs, knowing who is doing it and how good they are is really important, and GF Sprague takes the time to make sure you understand the process. Once we had agreed on a plan, the work was accomplished very quickly, over the course of about 10 days (masonry first, followed by roof work). At closing, they sat down with me again to review the job and show me pictures of the work they did. Really great. They might not be the cheapest roofing company out there, but if you want quality work, done right, by professionals with a long term history in the community, these are the best roofers in town. Their 40 year guarantee is also exceptional, and they stand by their work for so long because they do it right the first time.

The initial team came the day after my call to the office and carried out a full inspection. They provided on site several different options at different costs to address the issue. Following our decision to proceed with the work, the same team came for the project within three days which was important as a snow storm was expected which could have put off the project until Spring. The team spent two full days in cold and windy conditions but were able to complete the project keeping us appraised of progress. Upon completion, they reviewed the work for final approval. The team was polite and professional. After the visit I received a call from the installation manager to confirm our full satisfaction with the project and received a subsequent call in March to confirm that the leak issue had not resurfaced. If one wants professional/commercial grade service, I can fully recommend G.F. Sprague and we would definitely continue to use them as a preferred vendor for our roof and gutter work.

The only reason this is a 4-Star instead of a 3-Star review is because of the roofer that showed up to do the work, James Mitchell. In considering how to structure this review I see it fair to evaluate the 2 GF Sprague employees I dealt with separately. My first contact was with Mark Vaccaro. He was on-time, seemed very knowledgeable and was professional and courteous. Unlike another reviewer I did not experience any pressure to sign any papers or give a check right away. In fact, Mark came out to assess the job more than once before I signed any papers. My problem, though, is that the job turned out to be about $300 more than the estimate given because it required more field slate than originally quoted. As one can imagine I was not happy to hear this news but the work needed to be done. My second contact was with James Mitchell. He was very professional, personable and made an extra effort to coordinate his schedule with mine, as the job took longer than planned because of the estimate. He worked diligently and ensured that any concerns I had were addressed in a professional manner. He informed me of some gutter issues and trouble spots on the house that need to be addressed when the weather improves and took the time to explain what the scope of the work he was doing. I think it's important for people that are working on your home to treat it as their own and I certainly got that feeling from Mr. Mitchell.

Timely and thorough response to my enquiry.

They really wanted to over charge us. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. They want us to replace a roof that didn’t need to be replaced. I called them because I had a window that was leaking and it needed a new seal. They try to make a big production out of it and charge us a lot of money, it was just ridiculous. We found someone to do the job at a reasonable price. They were scamming us and that was obvious because we have had that roof replaced pretty recently and we knew that the roof didn’t need to be replaced.

I do not know how it went next 2 to 3 days we had warm weather and I guess it melted some more ice. I was in a bind i felt like they had me over a barrel in that situation. they told me the the price and I agreed not knowing how much time was involved. I said come and do job men were very nice and polite ...but they finished the job in 3 or 4 hours at the most.

Thoroughly professional from start to finish. Nothing hidden. No surprise. You pay for what you get. Could not have been easier from the homeowner's perspective.
