Master Chimney Sweepers

Called Master Chimney to arrange to have my chimney cleaned. They clearly explained pricing and I scheduled an appointment. The chimney sweeper, Doug, arrived on-time and did a nice job and explained the condition of the chimney to me. He left the area clean. He also didn't try to upsell me in any way. Although the price seemed high and it took a while to get an appointment, I was pleased with all of the other aspects of their service.

The service technician was very professional. The fact that the flue I had called about cleaning was for a wood stove had not been relayed to him. It could have been very uncomfortable but he called the company and then proceeded to pull out the wood stove insert and clean the flue. There was no mess and everything was reconnected and put back together. After talking with him I decided to add the flue for the oil heat and found out there was corrosion which had started. I would recommend this company and use them again.

I was told that it would be $300 to replace the old cap and $325 to put on a brand new one. I asked for a price if I needed my chimney cleaned and was quoted $239. I'm not sure if that $564 price included the $125 I was told it would cost me "just to show up." Also they could not come for a month. I called Georgetown Chimney Sweep, got an appointment in less than a week and paid $125 total for a new chimney cap.

Excellent job! Nick told me what needed to be done, let me decide what I wanted done now, discussed different types of caps (stainless steel, copper), etc. He was professional, did a good job cleaning up afterwards, explained everything to me (warranties, etc.). He even noticed a problem with our electrical box where the underground utilities enter the house, and called it to my attention. All in all, a professional job.

The estimate was given during a routine cleaning. They were able to schedule the installation within two days of the call to confirm. Randall was courteous and professional throughout the installation. He left the work area clean, and took care of a small additional problem at no extra charge.

They were very responsive on the phone. The sweep was on time and called 20 minutes before to let me know he was on his way. They did not try to up sell me. I will use them for my yearly sweep.

My experience with this company was very good. I had to reschedule several times, due to some unforeseen circumstances, and they always were accommodating. They arrived on time and completed the job in a timely fashion. I would definitely recommend this company.

Doug was prompt and arrived within the 2-hour window we had arranged. I also received a call when he was about a half hour away, as promised. He was careful to remove the main stove pipe and remove it from the house for cleaning without spilling ash or soot in the house. He was very thorough with the actual sweeping. As he worked he discussed with me the various factors that influence the recommended frequency of sweeping (type of chimney, number and type of fires, etc.) He installed a stainless steel cap on this chimney, and while he was on the roof he checked the condition of the cap on the other chimney. He was very pleasant and professional throughout the job. Not the cheapest chimney sweep out there but the best of several that I have used over the years.

It went just fine. Ronnie was pleasant and explained everything. I went upstairs and worked. He called me after about an hour and I admired his work and thanked him. There was no mess at all--not even light dust. It was pouring during his visit. He did not go up on the roof to check the chimney or flashing (Consumer's Report seems to think this is part of the job) but he said it looked OK from the inside.

It went very very well. Nick arrived on time and was very polite and professional. He inspected all three of our chimneys but told me that only one needed to be cleaned. He then cleaned the chimney. He recommended that I consider chimney caps and explained why (preventative maintenance). He gave me a price but did not in any way pressure me into buying immediately. He also told me when he felt that I needed another cleaning given our usage...not until spring of 2009. Nick was courteous, efficient and honest. I was very pleased and impressed. I would definitely use Master Chimney Sweepers again.

We have used this company for several years for our annual chimney cleaning. This year, the service person told us that our chimney had several cracked tiles and that we would need to install a chimney liner--to the tune of $2400. This seemed strange to me, given that no mention had ever been made of cracked tiles in the previous years (5), and that several cracked tiles appearing in one year seemed too many. We called a different company for a "second opinion." The representative of this second company came to our house and performed a chimney "scan," using a camera to discern the inside condition of our chimney. There were NO cracked tiles! In fact, the chimney is in fine shape. Needless to say, we have changed companies.

I was installing a gas fireplace insert and called for help simply installing the new chimney cap and 3" diameter flexible flue liner. Bill Newman insisted that $1,700 was their minimum labor to come out to the house. He also wanted to charge $3,000 for the materials for a stainless steel liner that was the wrong diameter (6"). Granted that stainless steel is sturdier than aluminum, but I paid only $75 for the aluminum liners. He also repeatedly said they would not be available until 3 months from now. I conclude that either this is their busy season and therefore they'll take as much money as they can demand, or that they were annoyed that I had bought the insert from a retail store. They were polite, but I question the professionalism of inflated quotes. They did return my initial call promptly, although they had messed up the paperwork and called me back for a chimney cleaning, not a chimney cap installation.

Nick and his colleague were kind, thorough, and punctual. They gave us the service we expected at the price we expected. We're very happy with this first experience and right now we do plan on continuing to use them as our chimney maintenance company.

It went very well! Though I planned to have one flue cleaned, the two workers asked me how long it had been since I'd cleaned the other flues. Given the (long!) amount of time it had been, they recommended that I also have the furnace flue cleaned. That revealed LOTS of debris build-up, so I opted to have the water heater flue cleaned as well. The two men arrived during the agreed upon time slot, worked efficiently, and left no mess behind. They were polite and helpful. They did all three flues within 90 minutes. Great job! They recommend chimney liners and, at my request, gave me a quotation. No decision by me yet on that work. Buyers should keep in mind that demand for chimney sweeping drops off significantly in the spring, and so does the cost. If you are not desperate to have the work done, wait until spring and save money.

I have been really happy with them. They do a fantastic job and I would recommend them to anyone. They are on time and friendly and the price was reasonable as well. They do not leave a big mess behind either.

Too bad more service companies didn't run as well as this one...

I like them very much. It took them 2 visits to get the job done. They are very professional and they were always on time. They were very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions on the spot. I don't remember how much they charged me, but I know it was fair and reasonable. I would recommend this chimney service very highly.

I have recommend them to a few people now because I have been so pleased with their service. They do an excellent job and they never leave a mess. I use them regularly for the maintenance of it. I have no complaints about their service.

The bill came in under the estimate they gave. They were incredibly professional and great to work with. They could have been dishonest and cleaned the ones that had just been cleaned before buying the house, but they didn't. They were highly qualified, knowledgeable, and I would definitely recommend them and use them again.

The company showed up promptly as scheduled. Mark left the areas spotless when done. He was pleasant and professional. I have only one complaint about the company: it was difficult to get an appointment scheduled before the end of October. When I went on line, I found the Master Chimney Sweepers had offices as close by as Lexington....I called the Lexington number specifically and that was when I was able to get an appointment at the end of September. When I had called the 1-800 number, I was given the late October date. Then I was called last week, and they had a cancellation, so they were able to come out that day within 2 hours. Happy ending!

Nick was great. Very efficient and neat. He was also very helpful with additional fireplace maintenance and provided easy to understand answers to our questions. The entire project was completed in less than 2 hours.

I did not have any problem making an appointment and they called the morning of the cleaning to confirm the time. I was very impressed with the work that Nick did. He took the time to explain what he was doing and left a brochure for me on how to use the fireplace safely. He even cleaned around the area where he was working. I would definitely use the company again and recommend them highly.

Doug was thorough, quick, and honest. He quickly diagnosed problems and tried to solve them as economically as possible. I was informed of the problems and cost of repair ahead of time, so was pleased when he found missing parts to save me some money on one of the fireplaces. I knew that water had been leaking into my chimney because of leaching stains in the stucco outside, so wasn't surprised when he told me the cap was faulty. I was thrilled he could repair it during the same visit.

We did not use the company. They were cooperative and responsive, but we went with a less expensive alternative.
