The installers were friendly, polite, came in a light snow storm knowing they had to go on my roof for part of the installation. After the installation the cleaned everything up - you would never know I had anyone in working. They explained possible odor I might have for a day or two. Waited to make sure the furnace was running properly and moved back any furnishing they had to move.

They were outstandingly excellent. Everything about them was really good. They did a huge job. It was a lot of work and it was expensive. We actually recommended them to a neighbor who also used them. They were very responsive and very good. We would certainly use them in the future if we had the need.
Description of Work: Master Chimney Sweepers came out in October 2009 and capped the chimney and fixed the liner of the chimney. They also repaired the wall and the connection between the garage and the furnace to a pipe.

The way our chimney was capped off looked unusual to some workers that were at our house but it turns out that was normal for the age of our house. They waved the inspection fee and the whole thing was really easy and really pleasant. We really needed a chimney service that would recognize the style and type of chimney and would have the right equipment to put up there. They automatically do an inspection to make sure it is safe for the workers. The cap itself was expensive but the labor was not; they were very reasonable. They were very responsive and they didn't leave a mess or anything.

Matt and Tony were great - arrived on time, were very polite, professional and thorough, and cleaned up after themselves. They gave me an estimate on installing a stainless steel liner and chimney cap. It seemed a bit high, and we ultimately went with someone else to do the liner/cap replacement, but would definitely consider Master Chimney Sweepers in the future.
Description of Work: We needed a chimney sweep and an estimate on replacement of a furnace flue liner. We have three flues (one for the furnace, two for two other fireplaces) and Matt and Tony cleaned the fireplace flues and gave an estimate on installing a stainless steel liner for the furnace flue.

I called Master Chimney Sweepers along with three other companies I got from Angies List about having our chimney/flues cleaned. I decided on this company because of the positive comments on the list, plus the fact that I received a coupon in the mail for $50 off all services. Money is tight this year, so that was defnitely a factor in my decision. I expected to get $50 off the price I was quoted on the phone. The technician (Tony) came out about a month later to do the job. All in all I was very pleased with his work. Tony was polite and professional throughout. He inspected the fireplace flue (we have a wood stove insert) and determined that it did need to be cleaned. This was not a surprise to me since we haven't had it cleaned since we moved in a year and a half ago. Tony then inspected oil furnace flue. He used a mirror and flashlight to show me the inside of the flue, and told me that it really didn't need to be cleaned since there was minimal soot and no debris, plus the flue has a stainless steel liner. I was impressed that he was infomative and honest, and didn't try to sell me a service that I don't need (which would have been easy to do in this case...). He then cleaned the fireplace flue. I didn't watch him do all of the work, but as far as I could tell he did a thorough job and left the place clean. The only issue I had with the job is related to the pricing. After Tony told me what the total would be for the cleaning (the same price I was quoted on the phone) I showed him the $50 off coupon, expecting $50 to be taken off the price as indicated. He told me that the price on the bill was a sale price and already reflected the discount. I asked if I could speak with a supervisor to clear this up. In a phone conversation with the supervisor a few minuted later I was told essentially the same thing. I indicated that this seemed like false advertising to me, since there was nothing on the coupon stating that this was reflective of a sale price. Although he did not agree with my interpretation, he gave me a reduced price (the equivalent of a spring cleaning job) and was polite and respectful. I was satisfied with this outcome; because on this I was pleased with both the work performed and the customer service of the company. I do plan on using them for future cleanings and service.
Description of Work: We had two fireplace flues inspected, one of these was cleaned.

It went well...I got quotes from several companies, and had received a $50 discount card in the mail from Master's so they won the job based on being recommended from Angie's list, and of those recommended vendors, had the lowest price after applying the discount card. The gentleman was prompt, explained what he was doing, protected the basement from dust, and cleaned up. I thought we had no chimney liner (house was built in 1915), but his inspection revealed that there was a terra cotta liner that ended at the hot water heater flue (which is why I couldn't see it in the clean out door). While it was flaking a bit upon brushing, it is in surprizingly good shape. He did recommend installing a stainless steel liner. Only a furnace and hot water heater vent to the chimney (no fireplace), and he said since they are gas fed, the residual CO2 gases can escape into the house through cracks. One thing he did note was that our 'draft' within the chimney was excellent (so gasses in the chimney are being sucked out the top at an excellent rate). He provided a proposal for the liner, which would be a 45' liner, at about $3600. I've received 2 competitive quotes for the same job from other Angie's list recommended vendors, both in the $2000-$2500 range, so Master's was a bit pricey on the liner installation. Not sure I'll do it, since the terra cotta liner is in fairly good shape, we don't have open flames (fireplace) venting to the chimney, and the existing draft is quite strong.
Description of Work: Swept the chimney; inspected the chimney, including furnace and hot water heater flue pipes; provided proposal for stainless steel liner installation

Tony came at exactly the correct time. He checked my fireplace flue, and determined it did not need cleaning. Then he checked the furnace flue and said it did. That made sense because the fireplace hadn't been used in a long time, but the furnace is used all winter, of course. The only things he found were, sadly, small bones from a bird in the fireplace flue. He just removed those at no cost. He was friendly, swift, and thorough. There was no dust, as he had a good vacuum attached to the cleaning tools. I am asthmatic, so that was important. He was very respectful of my home. Alas, no top hat.

As most have said, professional, courteous etc. The technician cleaned one fireplace. Our other fireplace did not need to be cleaned. However, we have a problem with our flue from the furnace and the liner needs to be replaced. The technician showed me the pictures of the misaligned tiles. Estimated cost to repair is $2900. Overall very happy with the service.

Very well. It was a costly job, but any company would have charged me that or more. I received a discount for being an Angie's List customer. Yeah!
Description of Work: They were punctual and curteous. The chimney sweep showed me the work (putting in a liner) that had to be done and it corresponded with another opinion that had been given to me. The cost was cheaper than what was quoted to me by another company. I appreciated that he cleaned up the space after he was done working and tried to accomodate me in the fact that I needed to leave for work. Finished on time and within the given quoted price.

Nick was very professional and so were the people booking appointments. My only complaint is that $350 seems like a lot of money for 1 to 1/1/2 hours of work. Also, I take Nick at his word that the cleanings were done properly but I have no way of knowing for sure. Maybe leaving behind a more comprehensive report of the original assessment (mildly dirty, very dirty, etc.) along with a measurement of how much soot was removed from each separate cleaning would help. It would also be helpful if the report included a structural assessment.

I was very disappointed in this company's service. They were no-shows for their appointment, because apparently they had called my cell phone to confirm the appointment (and I never got the call or the message), so I didn't call back to tell them the appointment was still on. I had taken the day off of work but still they couldn't accomodate me. The phone operator was not apologetic. We rescheduled the appointment and they were supposed to give me a discount on the service (to make up for the missed appointment) but I still paid a lot more than the competitors' prices for the same service. Worst of all, they failed to clean out the box where ashes reside when you sweep them down your fireplace. Also, they are BIG into selling the fireplace liners, on which they make a profit, and the sweep recommended my purchasing such a liner even before he looked at the chimney! Also, they can't provide a price quote over the phone. You have to wait for a call back (?) Other services are able to provide standard quotes on the phone. I'm too busy to deal with their complicated service processes, and they are so rude I wouldn't bother hiring them again.

They arrived on time. Installed the stove, which included moving it from the garage into the house and room, which was no easy task since the stove is so big. The stove is not brand they normally deal/install but they installed it anyway, and also warrantied the install. I purchased the stove before I looked for an installer. All the proper permits and inspections were obtained, completed and approved. Great job!

MCS had done an estimate 2 years back when we bought the house. They honored this quote (I was impressed that they still had it on file) and came in $400 over that due to an unforseen repair that came up during the work. Derek and his crew member were professional, efficient and thoughtful in their responses to my questions as I know little about how it all works or is supposed to work. We will be using them again for ongoing maintenance of our chimney.

They charge a service fee to come out, and if they do the work they apply that charge to the fee. I told them I needed the chimney swept, and I also had a chimney cap on that was askew. I gave them specifics about the house, and told them it was a three story Mansard Victorian. They assured me that they would check that, but when they came out, they saw that the house was three stories. They told me that they would have to come back out and charge a separate service fee to return because of the height of the house, which surprised me given that they are chimney people and I assumed they would have the equipment. I had to explain to them a couple times what exactly I needed, and they had to call the supervisor to work out a miscommunication about the charges and work required. Their prices were in line with what other companies, but I did have to call someone else out to adjust the cap. The people who worked in the office were very professional, although the guy who came out could have handled it differently.
