+ -1 moreThumbs up across the board. The technician definitely knew his stuff. Was able to dismantle the Morso insert in our fireplace with little to no difficulty, and determine that having the 2nd flue cleaned was likely worth the money. And after seeing what came out of the cleaning process, there was no doubt he was right. That said, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the whole job, given how dirty the work of sweeping a chimney naturally is. He also confirmed that our chimney cap and pointing appeared to be in very good shape, which was helpful and reassuring.
Description of Work: Flues were (over)due for inspection & cleaning on the home we purchased in 2015 -- one flue for our oil-burning furnace, the other for our wood-burning fireplace (which we use regularly). Prior owners had apparently used Master for similar work, but several years back.

+ -1 moreThe sweep was courteous, quiet and efficient. He kept the work areas clean. The chimneys were not very dirty, so it ended up only being two hours work. The charge of almost $750 is a bit steep for that amount of work.

+ -1 moreMatt was fantastic! He was ahead of schedule and called to ask if he could arrive early, which I very much appreciated. He was friendly, kind, and extremely professional. He was tidy with his work, polite about asking which door to bring equipment in and out of, and he also was very patient with my barking dog who was desperate to be friends with him. It turns out he was the same person to have cleaned my chimney three years ago, too. I appreciated the consistency, especially considering this will be a yearly service I'll be managing now that I own my home. I'd be thrilled to have Matt back again next year. He was also great about answering my questions related to the additional work he recommended we have done given the age of my house. I have and will continue to recommend Master Chimney Sweepers to my network.

+ -1 moreThe technician came, used a vacuum in the fireplace. Fine. I asked for an inspection of the chimney, but he wouldn't climb up to the roof. Instead, he used binoculars. I could have done that myself! And with binoculars, you cannot get a good view of the chimney, flashing, crown. No video inspection, no close up inspection. just binoculars. It was not a real inspection. Then he gave me a quote of $950 to install a cap, PLUS an additional $250 to bring an extra long ladder. Really?? I had another chimney contractor install the cap, and they did the work for 30% of the quote that Master Chimney gave me. I would not hire Master Chimney again.

+ 0 moreEverything went well. No issues. Vinnie who came the first day for the cleaning was great. It was recommended "several years ago" due to some minor tile damage that we get a liner installed but we never did. So this time around we decided to get one. No sales pressure at all or any other comments pressuring us to get one, but I felt it was time. Vinnie also came by with another worker to install the liner, took about 2.5 hours. Overall, a very positive experience. I did rate the price a "B" because I though it was a bit high but maybe that is the going rate. I did not shop around since there are only so many chimney companies out there and we had used Master Chimney Sweepers in the past. $558 for cleaning and $3240 for liner.
Description of Work: Cleaned chimney flues - one for furnace and one for fireplace. Also installed a chimney liner a few days later, two separate jobs.

+ -1 moreIt was quick and easy. After being told there were no appointments for more than a month, and being put on a "move up" list, I got an appointment the next day. Nick was courteous and professional and quick, explaining everything to me clearly. The price is on the higher end of what Angie's List predicts, but I have heard nothing but good things about MCS and wanted to make sure the chimney got done right, since we hadn't had it done in too long. He cleaned both flues and made recommendations for getting the creosote glaze out of the chimney.

+ -1 moreMaster Chimney Sweep sent out flyers offering a 33% discount on services, but I could not find any actual prices listed on their website. They came out and swept my chimney for $468 which, after comparing notes with neighbors, seems expensive even without a discount. (This means it was $700 at full price!) They did clean the flues, but left a big pile of soot at the bottom of the flue inside of the pipe coming from the furnace. I found this soon afterwards when I had my flue relined. After the sweep was completed, I was told that my lining was rotting and that I needed the flue to my furnace relined and a double wall pipe installed on the 6 foot run between my furnace and the flue. This was quoted at $4500, which is way to much for this job. There is no scaffolding needed to reach my chimney, and the double walled pipe is not nearly as expensive as they claimed. I recently had my flue relined by someone else, who told me that the previous liner was not at all rotten and would have held up for many years to come.

Description of Work: Called and asked for cleaning up furnace smoke pipe through chimney because of furnace back pressure smoke coming out. Technical came and checked everything. After he moved vacuum and brushers in, he called the boss Bill. Bill told him to stop. Boss said need outside chimney door to cleanup this special furnance flow. Since they can't do service, I didn'texpect they still want to charge $359 service fee. They suggest to open a door on chimney outside which quote $400. This is how they do business?

+ -1 moreThese sharks wanted to charge me $369 to clean a single chimney flue on a 1 story home. that more than double of two other highly rated Angies list competitors who had no problem quoting a price over the phone.
Description of Work: I needed a single chimney Flu cleaned on a single family 1 story house. They quoted $369 after a $80 double discount from Angies list. This is an excessive rip off. I received quotes from two other highly rated chimney sweep companies on Angies list and they were both $169 to clean a single Flue. I notice Baster Chimney Sweepers says price is determined by the job. When I called them they initially refused to quote the price for cleaning a single chimney flu on a 1 story home, and the price was determined after they arrived after you agreed to the service appointment. The woman that answered the phone said she didn’t know the price and wanted to have someone call me back, which means they wont call you back so I insisted I speak to someone else there. This person told me $369 for a single flu with a special $80 double discount. So I made an appointment prior to receiving other quotes for less than half this price. I guess that's how their scam works. Once there at your property and you have set your time aside they size you up and charge you more than twice the industry rate. Most people are not going to know a fair price unless they have had this service performed in the past. Hard to believe Master Chimney Sweepers have so many reviews but I believe they have managed that by offering some coupon pay in advance deal to generate business and get a large number of reviews so now they just scam people by charging twice the going rate. But even offering 50% off the first $100 towards a chimney sweep that’s like $50 off of their inflated price to begin with. Any business that operates like this is dishonest and I would not trust any of their work or anything they say
