Master Chimney Sweepers

We are extremely impressed and satisfied with Master Chimney Sweep. They were prompt, the technician --"J"-- was very professional and knowledgeable. The cleaning is significantly better than the prior company and we also learned a lot about how to better care for the chimney. In fact, it seems that we had gotten bad advice about chimney care from the prior company. Also, we talked to the owner when we set up the appointment, as we wanted to make sure they knew what to expect, and he advised us to use something called Big Stick Creosote & Soot Destroyer -- and even had a box dropped shipped to our house. I run a small business consulting practice and from that perspective, this is an excellent example of the highest quality customer service. :)

The guy showed up in time. Looked at my situation. Did not have very helpful advice beyond standard things. Was nice enough not to do a job that was not needed (I originally asked for 2 chimneys to be sweeped, he said that one does not need to so he did not do it and did not charge for the assesment). I am not convinced that the sweeping was the best it could be, but was decent and the serviceman answered all my questions and gave me good recommendations.

The sweeper arrived promptly and did careful, efficient work, and I have no quarrel with the work performed. However, the $259 price tag for what was less than a 1-hour task seems shockingly expensive. Okay, live & learn. This year the very (annoyingly) assertive agent called to reschedule and I set a provisional date for a cleaning in case I couldn't find a better deal. As it happened, Angie's offered a featured Deal for a $99 chimney sweep ("a $179 value!"), so I got that service and called Master Chimney to cancel, a good 3-4 weeks in advance of the date. The courteous man on the phone did so, no problem. Then this other agent calls me back to see whether I wanted to reschedule, and I politely explained I had found a much less expensive provider, to which she says "Wow, Okay." No big deal. But then today, a week later, she calls me *again* to ask whether I want to reschedule, at which point I made real clear I wanted to be purged from her database forever. Again, the *work* they did I have no problem with. I wouldn't have written this review if not for this further call. I'm sensitive in this area, I'll grant. It's smart to stay in touch with clients to offer service -- but it's not smart to act like they're entitled to your business. Tone is important.

He gave my chimney a full evaluation, explained how it was built, what materials were used, what was typical wear and tear aging, ways it could be improved, what to worry about and fix, or what was no big deal. He explained the best ways to maintain the fireplace, and cleaned and inspected the whole chimney. He was excellent, and even was careful to not get any ash on my carpet. I would highly recommend this company and hire them again for any future service needs. The price seemed completely reasonable and fair. Thank you so much for your wonderful work.

My experience with Master Chimney Sweep was a very positive one and I would recommend them to anyone.

The sweep was on time and very professional. When he was finished, he cleaned up and turned out all the lights in the basement. He recommended that he install a flue liner. He gave me a written proposal and an explanatory pamphlet. When he gave me the bill for the cleaning, I noted that the amount was higher than that quoted over the phone when I made the initial appointment; the sweep immediatey accepted the lower amount and adjusted the bill.

This company had received many positive reviews on Angie's List so I decided to give them a try. I scheduled a chimney sweep as we had just moved into our house. The company was professional when I scheduled the appointment and called the morning of the appointment to remind/confirm. The employee that conducted the sweep, Jay, was great and answered all of my questions regarding the condition of the chimney. There was no mess left behind and the visit didn't take too long. I will definitely be using them again in the future!

Technician seemed to know what he was doing. There were two lined flues that had not been cleaned for a long time. We are satisfied and would recommend this MASTER CHIMNEY SWEEPERS even though the price was not the lowest.

The company office was quick in responding to a call concerning animals in the fireplace flue. Quotations were given for removal of raccoons, and for cleaning the two flues in the chimney, and a service visit arranged. The technician found there had been raccoons, but they had left, so there was no charge for that service. He cleaned both flues, and then asked if we wanted a chimney cap. His quoted price seemed reasonable ($550) so we agreed. All work was done quickly and tidily. All in all a satisfactory experience.

Initially, I had trouble contacting the company: The company website lists an 888 number and telephone numbers for several particular towns. I called the number for my town twice. The call never went through. I called the 888 number three times. The first time the call was answered, but then dropped.The second and third times the call was forward to a 508 number, then I received a "may be monitored or recorded message", then I received an automatic notice from the telephone network that the 508 number was not active. The company replied promptly and professionally to my review, explaining that they encountered problems with their phone system and are taking action to resolve the problems.

I contacted Master for an estimate on a new chimney liner. I had my flues cleaned by another company who informed me that I needed approx. $2500+ worth of repairs which included a new chimney liner. I then called Masters because of their excellent rating and was unsure about the integrity of the original company which cleaned my flues. When I called Masters, they wanted to charge me $250+ (can't remember exact cost - I think it was approx. $269) to come out to my home to give me an estimate!! I told the salesperson that I would not pay for an estimate and gave him some specs I had on my chimney and was quoted $1000+ more than my original quote. Their pricing is outragous. The salesperson was not very helpful and insisted I send him a picture of my house and chimney so he can quote more precisely - I think that is just a poor way of doing business!!

We made an appointment about ten days in advance to inspect and clean the flues in the 24 year old condo we just bought. The guy showed up on time and told us that two of the fireplace flues did not need cleaning. So he charged us just for one fireplace flue and one oil burner flue. The latter apparently had never been cleaned, so he ended up spending two hours filling two large bags with crud from the oil burner flue. He had to come back a few days later to clean the fireplace flue. He didn't complain or ask for combat pay on the really dirty flue, just did the job. We had used this company to clean flues in our previous house. They were professional then and still are. Recommended.

My initial call was promptly returned and the details clearly explained. We arranged an appointment which was about 2 weeks ahead--not too long to wait. About 5 days ahead of the appointment I received a call from Dave offering me an appointment that day due to a cancellation and I accepted this. Dave said the sweep would arrive between 11 and 1, and he arrived just after 11. He thought it would take about an hour, which it did. He not only swept the chimney (and fireplace), and left no trace of his work in my living room, but also inspected the fireplace, and the interior and exterior of the chimney. He reported what he found, and had suggestions for correcting the issues we've had with smoke blow-back. I had specific questions about alternatives and he answered clearly and gave me a lot of helpful information.

They were very professional and very punctual. They did a really good job.

Technician was on time and professional. Examined both flues and determined that only one needed to be cleaned. Cleaned chimney and indicated that flue replacement should be considered. Wrote estimate and explained what and why it should be done. Very respectful and careful to make sure that all was clean when the project was completed.

Called to ask for an estimate on a chimney liner. Everyone was very nice and professional, but could only offer gross estimates over the phone. They charge $229. to come out to your home just to give you a real estimate/proposal(!), though they will take that off the price of any work they will do. I've gotten several other companies to come to my home to provide a proposal for this job without a fee.

Took about an hour for two flues. They were right on time and very professional. We didn't watch over what work was performed, but there were long brushes and vacuums involved. Tested the results a couple days later with a fire, and everything was great.

I was extremely pleasedand impressed. I have white furniture on either side of my furniture and when they were done there was not a speck of dust in my home. The young man was so polite. Its not often you get to experience such professionalism and courtesy. I was so busy with the holidays I forgot to write down his name but I believe it was Jason. Will use them again and refer to others in a heart beat!

The person who answered the phone was very helpful and they were able to schedule an appointment for us later the same week. The person who came to do the work clearly explained everything he was going to do, cleaned both chimneys and vacuumed out all of the fireplaces well and completely. The whole process took under an hour. I specifically had them out to inspect the liner on the chimney through which the gas boiler vented as we were in the process of replacing the boiler. Not only did he not try to sell us on the new liner, he told us that the 20 year old liners in both chimneys (plus the chimney caps) were in excellent shape - almost like new. They didn't try to upsell us on anything. Excellent service, professionalism, fair price and integrity - what more could you ask for?

Excellent job. The sweeper inspected the fireplace chimney first and explained it did not need cleaning and the lining was good. The furnace chimney was relined in 2001 and was very dirty. He inspected and cleaned it from from bottom to top. Recommended that I have that chimney checked and cleaned more frequently.

They didn't try to sell us things we didn't need. They were not pushy at all. They man that came was very professional. I felt confident that he knew what he was doing. He was very honest!

They did a good job cleaning the chimney. however the estimated they gave for replacing the chimney liner was quite high compared to the other estimates I received. this was disappointing since I have been a regular customer. I went with another company for the liner.

They were excellent. They arrived exactly on time and after inspecting the chimney, they set to work and completed the sweep in less than 30 minutes. They also made recommendations to improve chimney use, and followed up with an estimate. They were not hard selling, but rather offering a few suggestions for consideration. I wouold highly recommend them and will most definitely use them in the future.
