John and Kim were a pleasure to work with. They communicated well and were very responsive whenever I had questions, both before and during my project. The quality of John’s work was excellent and his dedication to getting the job done as quickly as possible, even in the face of some very cold weather, was impressive.

This was our 4th project with Lancaster Home Remodeling and as we have had in the past, it was a great experience with wonderful results! This time our project was the addition of a laundry space, home office, and bathroom and the addition turned out amazing! John did an amazing job putting together our vision and assembling the team to complete or kitchen and master bath renovation. This is the 3rd project we have worked with him and we keep coming back due to his great craftsmanship, knowledge, attention to detail and amazing communication. This last part was especially important as our project started during the pandemic. John worked around delays in supply chains to help us achieve our goals without compromising on finishes nor blowing up our budget. He helped troubleshoot several issues that arose as with any remodel. Kim, his wife, is also a great resource and was always communicating with us regarding the schedule and timing of work which is so key. John gutted and remodeled the kitchen of our 1926 Colonial for us last summer. He did a wonderful job and was incredibly nice to work with. We always knew exactly what was going to happen, and what the timeline would be. We would work with him again in a heartbeat!

We highly recommend Lancaster Home Remodeling. They exceeded our expectations in every way: super-responsive communication, high-quality work, fantastic support during and after the project, and reasonable pricing. From the initial design phase, John offered thoughtful suggestions/advice and would point out potential issues. We found it invaluable. During the build, Kim responded very quickly to any emailed questions and even reached out to let us know if no one was working the next day so we could keep our dog home and save on dog daycare costs. A small example of how they focus on the homeowner in their plans/decisions. During the build process, we had water coming in from our bulkhead - from outside not part of the remodel. John went out of his way to try and stop the leak even though he didn't have to. He went above/beyond multiple times. We absolutely love the way the basement turned out. We enjoyed working with them, and our basement looks beautiful.

Rarely (if ever) do I write reviews but we were so blown away by John from Lancaster Home Remodeling that I felt compelled to do so. We hired an architect for a major redesign of our home (addition, removal of walls, ceilings raised etc). We met with several contractors and liked John immediately. He was very thorough walking through the house and reviewing the architects design. He asked very detailed questions and it was clear when comparing John to the other contractors he was incredibly detailed oriented and we were unlikely to come across many surprises. After we hired John he was in regular communication regarding the start date and project timeline. He started right when he said he would and we were immediately impressed with work. John does not just pass off work to sub contractors. He was on site every day working, keeping everything on schedule and communicating with us about the status of our project. John caught things that the architect and engineers missed. There were several unexpected roadblocks and John handled each one of them calmly and confidently. You could tell this man has seen everything and knew how to solve anything our old house threw his way. John's craftmanship, work ethic and quality speak for themselves. Above all though, John is a good person, honest and friendly. I can recommend him with the utmost confidence.

John was our general contractor for a full gut rehab of our primary bathroom. John understood what we wanted and was clear and responsive in communicating with us on every aspect of the project. His sub-contractors, particularly plumbing and electric, were excellent. I would not hesitate to hire John again or recommend him. Highly capable and responsible - an excellent builder.

This was our third time working with Lancaster Construction. As usual John & Kim were nothing but professional with an amazing finished result! John transformed our living room from meh to perfection. Any questions or issues, John was immediately on top of it and one of the things we have always loved about them is the great communication on top of the excellent work. We couldn't be happier and we would recommend them to anyone without hesitation!

John and Kim were a real pleasure to work with. They were very responsive to our needs and had great suggests along the way to make everything come together. The project was completed on time and on budget precisely to our specifications. The new space is beautiful and has really increased our enjoyment of our home. We cannot recommend them highly enough.

Converting a porch into an office was a third project that John did on our property, We hired him because we knew that he would work with us to come up with a realistic plan that suited our needs, and that he would do solid work at a reasonable price to implement it. As always, John delivered. He completely rebuilt the supporting structure to bring the space up to code, dealt with supply shortages and subcontractor schedules and adjusted the plans based on our feedback. With all the complications of doing construction during the pandemic, the project took longer to finish than we hoped to, but John and his wife who runs the office did a good job of keeping us up to date on the progress. Bottom line is that thanks to John's craftsmanship and perseverance we have a much needed extra office, it is built very well, looks great, and is providing much needed functionality in our house.

Working with Lancaster Remodeling was a delight. Their communication was fantastic, the work was completed on time, within budget, and was very high quality. Things I especially appreciated were John’s flexibility and ability to troubleshoot the unexpected challenges that always arise during any type of project like this, and Kim’s quick and helpful responses from the back office. In our experience (we have gone through several remodeling projects before), communication, back office organization, price competitiveness, punctuality, and quality of work are key to success. Lancaster is exceptional in all of these aspects, which is a very rare find. Highly recommend!

We finished about 800 SF of basement and renovated the kitchen, dining and living areas. We emailed with Kim and met with John and were pleased with how responsive they were. Once we selected them, we met a few times to review the details and refine the scope of work. John and Kim were both attentive listeners as we collaborated on the details of the project - John had many creative solutions for several parts of the project. We found their price to be quite competitive with the other bids we received for the work. They work with subcontractors they know and trust, and we found them all to be professional and very capable. Being a renovation, we expected there would be a number of unforeseen conditions along the way, but John and Kim have a lot of experience with basement projects, and they anticipated many of these issues - making sure to bring up ahead of time any questions he had about particular details, and there were very few surprises - and no surprises whatsoever during inspections and obtaining the certificate of occupancy. Much of this project happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, and so our family was home all day for several months during the project. Not only was John very safe following PPE best practices, he was very helpful in helping us coordinate the few times he would need us to be out of the house (for painters, etc.) The project duration was longer than we first expected, but this was due to pandemic limitations, and John made sure we understood and were aware of any changes to the original schedule. Overall, working with John and Kim was a really enjoyable experience. We've completely overhauled our home and are very pleased with the results. We would hire them again in a heartbeat.

They were excellent the quality of the craft-men ship is good and they were easy to communicate with.

When we decided to finish the large basement of our ranch-style home, Lancaster Home Remodeling was on our list of businesses to consider. Upon our contacting John and Kim, we secured an appointment in the near future for John to go through our basement with our architect after he finished up work for the day on his then-current project. At this initial appointment, John asked detailed questions, making sure that he understood everything about the project which our architect had planned. John and Kim were clear that they would not be able to start construction for several months because of John’s current project’s timeline. However, the work in our basement began in very close proximity to their original estimate of when they expected that it would. When construction began, John worked diligently and methodically. Everything he did —from insulation and framing, to boxing out for pipes, to installing subfloor and prepping for flooring and blue board installation —seemed to take as long as it needed to in order to be done right; then he moved on. He kept us informed of the process as he went along, and was consistently on the job when he said he would be. The other specialists he hired to do other aspects — electrical, plumbing, plaster and paint, and tile for a bathroom, worked quickly, and to date it appears they have done an excellent job. He introduced us to businesses in the area which offered a customer friendly experience in terms of selecting tiles, paint, and bathroom fixtures. And where he offered advice in these areas, he understood that every homeowner has their own style and preferences, and directed his his counsel towards brands that would offer diverse selection and high quality. Personally, after numerous conversations with them, we found both John and Kim to be affable and people-friendly. John was always happy to explain what he would be doing next, and why he did what he did in terms of his construction techniques. Our experience has left us far more than satisfied with our experience with Lancaster Home Improvement, and shows that John and Kim run their business with professionalism, expertise, and a true pride in the work which they do. We unreservedly recommend them for your own project, and will continue to work with them as our own needs arise.

John is awesome. We’ve done three big projects with Lancaster Home Remodeling. We completely gutted and re-did our basement, we built a new addition to our house, and we added a brand new 3rd floor to our house. There is a reason we have continued to use John for each of these projects: 1) John is fair and incredibly honest. Compared to other bids I received, John’s prices and estimates were always fair and across each of our relatively large and long term projects there was never a moment where we felt like there were any hidden costs or fees that occurred. Furthermore, John is incredibly honest - you never have to be concerned that what he says is not the truth and when you have someone working in your house over a long period of time this is incredibly important. 2) High quality work. Unlike many contractors who end up subbing out most of the work and you never see them again, John is not only on-site regularly but he actually does a lot of the carpentry and framing work. This means that you get his full attention and it means that he is regularly onsite overseeing his subs. This is a massive advantage over any other contractor I’ve worked with. 3) Always available. John is always available if there is an issue, if there is a question, etc. He understands the importance of these projects to the home owner and he’s always ready to talk, always patient and just very pleasant. I would have written this review earlier but I was too worried that if I did he’d get too busy to do all the work we had for him. I would highly recommend John to anyone and think he does amazing work at a great value.

John and his team worked to transform our unfinished basement into an amazing space for our family. We had originally reached out to John based on the great reviews he had on Angie's List. After meeting with him, we felt really comfortable with his style and approach and decided to wait close to a year to work with him as he was finishing other projects. This was truly the best decision we could have made. John and Kim are the gold standard when it comes to a contractor team. John was great at laying out a plan, giving us options, walking through countless scenarios that we proposed to him, and then stepping back to let us make decisions about our project. We never felt like we were being pushed into a decision we didn't like and it always felt like our goals were his priority. He was also great about explaining the next steps and detailing out the cost of our choices so we could make informed decisions along the way and not be surprised by a big bill. On top of this, and more importantly, the Lancaster's attention to communication is truly what separates them from the rest of the pack. We always felt we had a direct line to them through Kim. She would constantly be updating us on the project, informing us when a subcontractor would be coming, and connecting us immediately to John if we had any questions or concerns. I can't stress enough how invaluable this aspect is when you are working on a project in your home. Furthermore, the attention to detail and craftsmanship of John and his subcontractors was superb. We now have an amazing finished basement with a family/TV room, home office, home gym, bathroom, and plenty of well designed storage. This was our first time ever working with a contractor and we truly hit the jackpot. We will without a doubt use them again for future projects in our home.

John and his assistant were super responsive from the beginning: inspecting the job site, planning and scheduling, applying for the permits, starting and finishing the job pretty much on time. Our case was a special case since it needed special permits and involved a lot of legal representation with the city. They were very helpful throughout the process of getting us ready for the permits. His work started right on time and he finished on time. He kept the site clean as we were living in the building while he worked on the basement. Was very professional in the work he did and they way he did it. Always consulted us on variations from the plan, was very flexible with our changes to the plan. Everything was cleaned after the job was done and the whole project went very smoothly. He did great job (woodwork) on a minibar and shelves he made for us. Rest of the work including the parts that his subcontractors did went smooth and came our great! I have been using the basement for about 4-5 month now and have had no issues. I recommended him already to a few of the close friends. Great experience!

This was our second time using Lancaster Home Remodeling, this time for finishing a room in our basement. As was our experience last time, John and Kim and everyone they worked with were professional, communicative, and great to work with. John is always so willing to thoroughly answer and questions or concerns and Kim keeps you updated with what is coming next so you always know what is happening. John's work is impeccable as is the work of his sub-contractors. If there were any problems, John was at the house addressing them immediately even if it was the weekend. We are so happy with the finished room and would thoroughly recommend LHR to anyone!

John and his team finished our basement, including the installation of a 3/4 bathroom. The project went extremely well from beginning to end. Our house is over a hundred years old, which brings unique challenges in terms of access (narrow stairways and uneven stairs), plumbing, etc but John was able to find solutions to each of them. My wife and I are neophytes with home projects, especially of this size, but John's style was exactly what we needed. He provides several options that work, but then steps back and lets you make the decision - no pushing based on what is easiest for him or which might increase the cost. He has a really calm demeanor that makes you comfortable that he knows what he is doing. Communication was great throughout the project, as Kim Lancaster would provide updates of when John or one of his subs would be on site (which was helpful, since he was working on multiple projects). We felt really comfortable with them in our home, and each sub that he uses demonstrated the same level of expertise and professionalism as John. John even returned a few months after the project was completed to trim our doors, as the separate carpet installation was too thick to fit unless the doors were resized (on a Saturday no less, without charging us). We had originally reached out to them a year ago but they were too busy - we priced out other contractors but decided to wait for John due to the great reviews. I am really glad we waited and worked with the Lancasters and hope to use them again in the future, only next time we will reach out well in advance!

John did a fantastic job with our basement. Our project had many moving parts. Our basement was partially finished, but the last time any work was done down there must have been 40+ years ago. There were asbestos tiles on the floor. We had occasional water in the basement, which we wanted to address. And we wanted to add a bathroom with a shower to the unfinished space in our basement. John understood what we wanted to accomplish and came up with a comprehensive plan to give us a completely redone basement that met all of our needs. And he followed through on that plan perfectly. We are very pleased with the end result. The quality of workmanship is exceptional. John is a very skilled carpenter. He built a mantel for our fireplace, rebuild the stairs to our basement, and constructed customized storage space under the stairs. And John hired great sub-contractors to do the asbestos remediation, drain system, flooring, tile, plumbing, electrical, and painting. John and his wife Kim kept us well informed about the progress of the project, and John always made himself available to meet with us to discuss the project. We thought that John charged a fair price for the work that he did, and he provided a detailed itemized contract that made the pricing of the project transparent. We have had a number of folks work on our house over the years, and we have had many very good experiences with the people we have hired. But John stands out as the best that we've work with, and we will be sure to hire him again for any future projects.

The entire project was amazing from start to finish. John did an amazing job creating a wonderful space with beautiful craftsmanship. The room is better than we imagined and completed in the time frame they gave. John was very patient with my questions and changes I wanted to make. John and Kim are also great communicators and keep you up to date with everything that is happening, the next steps, and what they need from you to keep the project moving forward. They make a great team and I would highly recommend them.

The attention to detail that John and his team provided to our home was unmatched. He is most certainly a skilled craftsman. All scheduled remained on target throughout the entire process and gave ample heads-up for large project work/construction that could inconvenience us, which enabled us to be better prepared – e.g. new plumbing, painting etc. As much as we can continue on about the quality of work, which could not have been any better, what makes working with John and Kim is the personal, patient, respectful, and friendly approach that mirrors the old work ethic that you get in a small family business. They were upfront about their pricing and open to ensuring that we had all of our questions answered before, during and after our renovation. On the occasions that we needed to make changes they did not disrupt our timeline and John ensured that we were educated about the implications of our change. Examples were changing laundry room layout, vanity size, taking down a wall, selecting tile style, closet placement, etc. The few subcontractors that John used were all equally as committed to the highest quality work and were available for questions throughout the renovation. John did majority of the work and was there to supervise his subcontractors so they were also aware of our vision and plans. Given the breadth of the project, we were surprised how clean the space looked at the end of each workday. This was very helpful as we still used the basement during construction for laundry. In short, great people, excellent quality, realistic budget. You can't go wrong. Always happy to provide a reference for Lancaster Home Remodeling.
