Not good. While they were very responsive and were able to come to my property relatively fast, several areas missed the mark. Way off. In the end, the heating issue was NOT fixed but I was still out nearly $1,000. I didn't know what was wrong with the heating system, but that's why I hire a plumber. This company came and took a look. Told me that they have no idea what's going on because the system was a mess. That might be true, but I wouldn't know. However, I do know that the system had been working fine for the past few years. I asked how much this was going to cost to fix it the "proper way"? Their response was "I don't know". Not even a ballpark range. Nevertheless, I authorized them the go ahead given that it's winter and the heat wasn't working. After being told that it was "fixed", I asked how much it was. They said "don't know" again. They have to work it out later in the office. 2 weeks went by. I received an invoice for almost $1000 for an expansion tank replacement, thermopile and system purge. The very next day, the heating system was not working again. I called them to tell them that the heating system was not working. They were very defensive and said "whatever it is, it has nothing to do with what they fixed". Regardless, they came back to take a look. They said they didn't see any issues with what they did last time and once again told me the system was a mess. I don't need them to tell me that the system is a mess and walk away. I need the heating system to work again. I need certainty that the fix is done right and a guaranteed on the work. This company failed in these areas. In addition, during the 2nd call, they had the nerve to tell me the original bill hasn't even been paid yet when it was them who took their time sending out the invoice. I received the invoice only a day ago! I'll pay the the invoiced amount because they did do some work on the property, just NOT the right work to fix the problem. I will not be using them again.
Description of Work: Radiator was not working. Property had no heat. Needed diagnostic & fix.

That'[Member Information Removed] not the case. I personally fixed issues and spoke to you personally .We Fixed immediate issues and system was running for 20 days and your husband called on an emergency Saturday 5PM and another issue arose . I explained you had another issue with Aquastat and I didn't even charge you ! The heating system would not have run for 20 days if your complaint had merit! I have time stamped original voice message on my phone and all documentations. I could say more but wont acknowledge your phony complaint!

I was having difficulty getting a plumber to do the repair, so I contacted Angie's List. Power Plumbing arrived within an hour of contacting Angie's List. The two very nice plumbers assessed the job, left to get the supplies they needed, and returned. Power Plumbing enlarged the previous cut-out in the ceiling for better access, and did a good and clean job of repairing the leaking connection. The entire job start to finish was about 2 1/2 hours. When the job was complete I was not given a bill or an invoice, but an amount due for the repair. Not having much choice, I paid the amount which came out to $340./hour. When I contacted the company hours later to question the charge, and to get an itemized bill for what they charged me, they told me the they charged by the job, not by the hour, (I never received an itemized bill or receipt). Perhaps due to my naivety and not asking the question of cost at the onset, because I assumed that like every other plumber I spoke to, I would be given an hourly rate. Because of the exorbitant cost for this job, and this way of doing business, I would not use this company.
Description of Work: We had a leak due to a bad shower pipe connection done by another plumber during a bathroom renovation. The ceiling where the leaking pipe occurred was still open from when the pipe was repaired the first time so it was easy to locate and observe the leak.

I would never recommend this company, Power Plumbing for any reason whatsoever. If he charged me extra for coming out on a Saturday, thinking in his mind that it was an emergency call, he was never told that, nor did I need or want him to come out on a Saturday.
Description of Work: Had this plumber install a new water heater a few years ago. Wondered about the price he had charged me then. Made a terrible mistake in contacting him again to replace an air conditioning Condensate Pump early this September. Was told that due to the Labor Day holiday, he would try and fit me in. Which he did. Arrived way too early on Labor Day week Saturday. Brought and installed a new pump, and then asked me for $450. At the time, I was a bit too shocked at the price he asked me for. When asked if I wanted a receipt, I declined. Then, about a week afterward, Google searched the Pump that he installed, and found the pump price around $58 from several suppliers. If this plumber thinks that his time was worth close to $400 an hour ( it took him LESS than an hour to replace and install the pump), he is insane.

It went well but the cellar toilet overflowed when Dave was testing the other toilet. He got hold of a drain company and they came within an hour and fixed the problem. So glad Dave was there as it was taken care of in an afternoon, and if I had to get someone, it wouldn't have been taken care of as quickly.

Dave Powers, the owner, personally came to my apartment and serviced the thermostat and furnace. It was at this time that he recommended that I get a new water heater. He personally inspected the area and quoted me $1,400 for the job. After it's completion, he added an additional $50 for "unexpected expenses for supplies." I was surprised by this claim given that he personally visited my apartment the day before and should have been aware of additional supplies that could be needed. It was clear to me that he was taking advantage of me but thought he did good work and was willing to compromise in case I needed him in the future. Dave Powers, the owner, personally came to my apartment and serviced the thermostat and furnace. It was at this time that he recommended that I get a new water heater. He personally inspected the area and quoted me $1,400 for the job. After it's completion, he added an additional $50 for "unexpected supplies." I was surprised by this claim given that he personally visited my apartment the day before and should have been aware of all of the supplies that would be needed. It was clear to me that he was taking advantage of me but I thought he did a good job on the water heater and was willing to compromise in case I needed him in the future. Shortly after, I had a leak that was causing damage to the apartment below me. I needed a plumber and called Dave to look into the issue. He sent two men over (one looked like an apprentice) and they dissembled a cabinet that covered/hid an old radiator that was capped. After removing the cabinet, the radiator could be seen and there was already an opening in the floor to complete any necessary work. I was instructed to turn on the heat (which was shut off for the leak) and had to wait for the pipe to warm before proceeding. The workers stood around for 45 minutes waiting for the pipe to heat up - something that could have been avoided if I was told to turn on the heat before they arrived. After 45 minutes, the pipe was still not warm and the worker checked the radiator cap which was noticeably loose. Because of the location of the water damage, it was assumed that this was the problem. The worker tightened the cap with three turns, put the cabinet back together and left without any formal testing. In total, the two workers were there for about an hour. Two weeks later I received a bill for $850 from Dave. Incredibly, a significant amount of the work in the invoice never took place (see highlighted invoice image). When confronted about the inaccurate invoice and the exorbitant amount billed, Dave refused to negotiate. Only after filing a complaint with the city of Boston was he willing to work with me and accepted a 33% decrease. In the end, the leak was not fixed and I was taken advantage of by a less than honest plumber. In summary, although he has lots of experience and does appear to do good work on straightforward projects (like my water heater), his billing practices are concerning. He changed his quoted for the water heater by $50 without a convincing reason and he charges exorbitant fees without warning (there was no initial quote for the water leak). For those considering using Dave, I strongly recommend that you get everything in writing. In addition, two out of the three jobs were done under the table. By this, I mean he had me write him personal checks for work that I contracted through his business (presumably to avoid paying taxes). With Dave, it is important to do everything by the book (i.e. through his business and through formal quotes) before proceeding. I learned this the hard way.
Description of Work: Powers Plumbing & Heating was hired on three occasions. The first was to install a thermostat and service a furnace ($350 for approximately 1.5 hours of work); the second was to install a new water heater (quoted $1,400, billed $1,450); the third was to come fix a leak that was causing damage to the apartment below (no quote - billed $850 for 1 hour of work (no parts) - renegotiated for $566).

Mr [Member Name Removed] It is unfortunate that you felt the need to write such a poor review . We value our costumer base and go out of our way to please . In my opinion your review is without merit ,You called in an emergency situation and we responded and arrived within an hour . The urgency of your call and the fact that you were a past costumer put you on our priority list pushing back other calls to service your needs. We located the leak , removed custom cabinet , repaired steam line, tested system and flawlessly reinstalled custom cabinet. It wasn't until you received our invoice that you became unsatisfied. The price was fair and accurate. Once we realized that you were unhappy with the price and unwilling to pay we dropped our cost so that we could simply break even and cover costs. I'm unsure how you could be unhappy with that. In direct response to your review- our price was fair, our quality of work was excellent, our response and punctuality were immediate, and our process is always professional. Your overall review was unfounded and unfortunate.

It was one week before Christmas when I called, so first Dave (the owner) told me that they probably wouldn't be able to get to me until later in the week because they were already booked getting people's furnaces running. I appreciated him letting me know upfront, and I told him it was no problem. Two days later, though, he called back and said they could come over that day if I was going to be around. I said "I'll be here." and two of his guys showed up within half an hour. They came in, looked at it, figured out what the previous guy had done wrong, and said they needed to go get a part from Home Depot. They went, came back in 20 minutes, and fixed it in about an hour. It's worked great ever since. They also took a few minutes to clean up after themselves before they left. I am very happy with their work.
Description of Work: The drainage hose from my dishwasher was leaking. An appliance repair guy had tried to repair it earlier, but had made it worse, so the dishwasher was essentially unusable at the time that I called Power Plumbing for help.

after 4 hours of no word from our home warranty company, they were still looking for someone to help us. 1/2 an hour later, I called Dave Power. 90 minutes later his guy showed, was here for ten minutes, snaked the toilet, and Christmas was saved! Dave could've made me pay quite a price for this, being holiday, Saturday, and last minute. He did not. relatively speaking, it was a bargain!

Spoke with Dave regarding the work I needed done. I explained the whole situation of not wanting to disturb the front side of the shower, I would be removing the vanity on the back side to gain access to the valve and he said that was fine. I asked him if he needed to come out and look at the job, and he declined “No need, I do these all the time “..he said. The night before the work was scheduled; I was contacted to see if I had removed the vanity and exposed the valve, which I did. I even texted pictures to Dave. He then expressed some concern with the job not being a “quick swap/ easy job”. The next day I we spoke on the phone and I was told AGAIN, that the job was not a quick swap/ easy job and the price then doubled. I never once said anything about the job being quick or easy. I did not want to call off the work because I had to install the vanity after that and had another contractor coming the next day to make a template for granite top. Not feeling very comfortable paying the almost double the initial price I was quoted, I decided to move on. I feel all this could have been avoided if someone came out to look at the job and told me up front what to expect.

I called for service right after some extremely cold days that caused my on demand hot water heater to break. David and his company replied very quickly and came to replace our unit the next day. David and his team were very friendly and diligent. When the job was done, David informed me of a rebate I could submit and even helped me start the process by texting me the web-site and forwarding me a photo of the relevant information on our unit that were required for the rebate. After I learned that an invoice was required for the rebate, David mailed it to me very promptly. Overall we are happy with the service. The price of the entire operation ended up being 10% more than the higher end of his estimate (David estimated between $4,500 and $5,000, and charged us $5,500 in the end).

Dave came out and consulted with us on replacing an old water heater after another plumber quit on us without doing any work. We looked over various options. In the end, we decided to replace our old large water heater with a new large water heater. The work was scheduled for the next week, and Bob and Jim came out to do the installation. It went very smoothly - plus, they helped fix us up with a scrap metal remover for some old junk we had, and helped us find an electrician for some small jobs we have. Then on the weekend, Dave consulted over the phone on a balky kitchen faucet - he knew exactly what the problem was, and told me what I could do so I could fix it (cleaning an aerator) rather than come over, do a 2 minute job, and charge us for it. We'll definitely use him again.

Power Plumbing and Heating did a fantastic job. I discovered that my hot water heater was leaking--on the coldest day of the year. I called the office and within the hour David had returned my call and made arrangements to pick up a heater and do the replacement in the same day. I couldn't have asked for faster service. The team was very professional; they did the replacement, took away the old hot water heater, and the only thing I had to deal with was the carton the heater can in. I am very pleased with the service and will definitely use Power Plumbing and Heating again and recommend them to others.

Very well. It was done over three days, barely a time without heat. Dave was very responsive and adaptable as the job went on, such as adding the tankless water heater installation after the job was half way started. The cleanup was also great, with no sign of work having been done. The job was not an emergency, but we needed it done asap because the 42 year old oil furnace was releasing fumes into the house. We had three companies provide estimates. Dave's was the lowest, and he was also best on communication - directly to him, and we had a lot of questions. We would use him again. Perhaps the only thing that could have been better is that we wanted 97% efficient furnaces, and one was 97% and the other was 96.7%. This is fine for environment and energy efficiency, but cost us $300 in the rebate difference. Not a big deal and not intentional. It was the highest quality American Standard available.
Description of Work: We had a lot of work done after recently purchasing a two family house: 1. Oil to Gas conversion for two furnaces, including adding cold air returns for both furnaces - $19,200 (before $900 rebate) 2. Removal of Oil Tanks, piping, old furnaces and sealing of walls - $1000 2. Installing a tankless water heater - $4000 (before $800 rebate) 3. Removing piping in two parts of house - $300

Originally we thought that the work was well done but we just had another plumber out to look at the pump and it turns out they installed a THREE-YEAR OLD PUMP, which means the warranty is almost up and we have had it less than 5 months. On top of that the price was unreasonable and we were expected to pay without seeing an itemized bill. After multiple phone calls and a letter, we finally received an itemized bill that showed that they charged us $1175 for labor. The job was completed by one person in less than two hours. We argued that $587+ per hour is beyond unreasonable and received no response. We will never use them again and feel that we were severely taken advantage of. And I would strongly recommend that you stay away from them.

You called me with emergency at 8 PM the night before. You called many plumbers before us you told me and either they didn't pickup or no one could do emergency job! I spoke to you extensively about time and half minimum costs and getting my guys there the next morning. He showed up with parts in hand and completed job immediately. Emergency sewage ejector pump no one wants to do anyway! We rearranged scheduling just for your job and you knew that. One phone call and one letter is what you sent and I sent invoice back promptly. I would give you discount on other services and not for what was already completed.
