Description of Work: No hot water, called service, Bruce called me back. Told him the problem, said he'd be by in about a half hour. Called 45 minutes later to tell me he remembered that he bid on a large project on my house some number of years ago, and that I never called him back (I have no memory of this, and haven't done any projects that weren't coordinated by a general contractor supplying the plumbing subs), so therefore he didn't want to come by for the job. Free country and all that, I suppose, but I wouldn't actually call it a courtesy call, as he described it.

Throughout the project, Bruce has exhibited a sensitivity to the demands of remodeling a 100-year-old structure and a willingness to work with me to keep costs down and finish each task in a timely manner. On two separate occasions, he uncovered obstacles to completing the work as initially planned: a bearing wall that had suffered serious damage at the hands of previous plumbers and a buried waste pipe of questionable structural integrity. In both cases, he spent the extra time and effort to do the job right, at no additional cost, where another plumber might have cut corners or renegotiated the contract. Bruce is an experienced professional, a thoughtful planner, a skilled craftsman, and a genuinely nice guy. He clearly takes pride in the quality of his work - a value that is increasingly rare in the trades. I would recommend him without reservation for a plumbing project of any size or complexity.
Description of Work: We hired Bruce Thornton of Associated Plumbers as part of an on-going renovation of a Victorian house in Dorchester - a large project for which I am doing much of the work myself. After meeting with several different plumbers (including many who came highly rated on Angie's List), I was confident that Bruce had the best understanding of our big picture goals and a clear vision of how best to accomplish them. The work involved running new drain and supply lines for our kitchen, a half bath on the first floor, a full bath on the second floor, and a basement laundry hook-up. He also relocated our electric water heater, replaced the drain and supply lines for a soapstone utility sink in the basement, and installed two frost-free outdoor hose hookups. In addition, at Bruce s suggestion, we decided to "stub out" drain and supply lines on the third floor, so that a new bathroom could be added at a later date with minimal expense.

+ 0 moreWe couldn't be happier with Ed. We never thought we'd get WW2-era plumbing completely replaced and all this work done for anywhere near $4000. If we have any more plumbing needs, we will be certain to insist on Ed.
Description of Work: Ed replaced all the 60 yr old hot and cold water pipes in our house. He opened up concrete 'mud' ceilings and walls neatly and with holes as small as possible in the basement, first, and second floor. He also installed a new shower valve, new tub/shower valve, new kitchen faucet, and new spray handles for each. Also installed a new hot water heater, replaced an overflow valve for the gas furnace, and a new reduction valve where the town line comes into the house. Also shut-off handles on all pipes. Price included all supplies except the HW heater, faucet, tub, and shower valves.

+ -1 moreEd came out on a Saturday and un-hooked our old dishwasher. He told me to page him when the new dishwasher was delivered. He came back promptly when I paged him. He did a great job hooking up the dishwasher, even solving an electrical problem for us. He is very nice and really helpful. We will hire him for all our future plumbing work.
