Jason is a pleasure to work with, extremely competitive pricing, and does a great job the first time. I personally really like knowing who will be showing up when I call and have it be someone with his experience, as opposed to a larger shop where who knows who they'll send. Plumbing work is one thing I don't dread having to call for because I know I can count on Jason for good work and a fair price.

Somewhat pricey $800 for shower valve $446 for 6 shut offs. Very professional, returned call with in an hour. Job was scheduled approx 1 week from call. Highly recommended for jobs at Natick Village (not sure what other complexes he has good management relationships with) for jobs where the water must be shut off for multiple units such as shower valves and secondary shut offs

On May 6, 2010, I hired Master plumber Jason "JR" Ravitz to do an install of a kitchen sink, bathroom sink, hot water heater, toilet, and bathtub (all supplied by me) at my rental property in Natick. I had used Jason for a couple of prior (smaller) projects and those projects were completed satisfactorily. On 5/14/10, Jason arrived at my property announcing a new company name: "JR Tripp" (Jason Ravitz & Mark Tripp) and a new partner that he introduced to me as Mark. I spent the day at my condo with the 2 plumbers (since I had the keys) and they worked very hard to get everything completed (since admittedly it was a lot of work). At the end of the day, Jason wrote me out a receipt who (including his license# 13672 at the top of the receipt) and I gave him a check (SEE PICS.). Fast forward to approx. 10/4/12. My tenant residing in this unit informed me that a large crack had formed along the bottom of the new tub (SEE PICS.). Given that I was on a second floor, I was understandably concerned about any kind of water leakage onto the unit below. When I went to check out the cracked, I saw a 6-8" crack all all along the very bottom curve towards the end of the tub (opposite end of the drain). I immediately called Jason Ravitz (who had done a number of other projects for me since the tub install on 5/14/10) and asked him if there was anything he could do to help me out since I thought it was very unusual that a brand new tub should crack after such a short span of time since the original install. Below is a list of some of the things that he said during this initial call: 1. His work is guaranteed only for one year. 2. "JR Tripp" is no longer in business and has not been in two years (he now has a new company name Jason Ravitz Master Plumber, Inc.). 3. I bought a cheap tub at Home Depot and therefore the tub quality is most likely the issue. And then finally, 4. "Mark Tripp installed your tub - not me" When I pointed out the obvious fact that I had hired Jason - a plumber I knew and used previously (as I never had met Mark before 5/14/10, nor have I ever seen him since), and Jason was working with Mark at my property all day (not to mention Jason wrote me out the receipt that day and put his license number at the top of the receipt - SEE PICS - Jason reluctantly agreed to replace the tub with a new one that I would purchase, for $500. I agreed to this arrangement because I was desperate to get this tub fixed to my tenants could safely use the bathtub and not leak water on the unit below. On 10/9/12 I purchased a new, very high-quality $700 Kohler tub (and informed Jason immediately of this purchase) to be delivered to my condo on 10/16/12. On 10/11/12 I received an email from Jason stating that he would only replace my tub provided it was "the exact replacement for the tub which was cracked" because "he did not want to get involved with cutting the tile floor or re-piping to a different size and shape drain". At this point I had already purchased the Kohler tub (and informed him of such). I then sent Jason an email reassuring him that I would have assistance on hand to cut the tile floor - and that it made no sense to me to replace the tub the exact same tub if there was any chance that the crack was a result of poor quality tub (per Jason's comment). I received no response from Jason re: that email (or any other of my repeated phone calls or texts) for the next 2 weeks. I had to scramble to cancel the Kohler tub delivery (since I had no plumber to install the tub and didn't want it sitting in my tenants living room for days-or weeks), had to cancel the tile guy, cancel the handyman I hired (to rip out all the tile around the tub), explain all of this to my tenants and go about the process of finding a new plumber (all of which was extremely stressful and time-consuming-not to mention expensive). I finally found a licensed plumber to replace the tub 10/26/10. When they removed the cracked tub here is what they found: Not one supportive 2x4" ledge around the tub -just a 1"x 3' foot strip of wood screwed to the wall that wasn't even near the tub wall. The "mortar bed" was a mound of concrete on the center of the floor (not evenly distributed). The licensed plumber and contractor present that day said it was the most "half assed tub installation they had ever seen"... (SEE THE PICS). The lack of support throughout the base of the tub caused the tub to crack. The result of which has now cost me close to $2000 to repair. As a female homeowner, I feel my lack of knowledge regarding the tub installation process caused me to be taken advantage of in this situation (although this is just my guy feeling). When I alerted Jason Ravitz to the gross incompetence of this tub install, he stated: Mark did the install of your tub - not me"....and "JR Tripp hasn't been in business for more than two years now". With Jason's constant claims of: "Mark did it - not me"....I am not sure if Jason he is claiming that he: 1) Wasn't even there that day (which would be absurd...because I've never heard of a lone plumber who could install a complete tub, toilet, bathroom sink, kitchen sink and hot water heater by himself - in one day (???). Using this logic, Jason's former partner installed 5 major plumbing fixtures alone..and then Jason showed up at the end of the day to give me a handwritten receipt (SEE PICS) and collect the check (sorry - doesn't pass the sniff test, because it didn't happen). 2) Perhaps he's saying that he was there - but didn't install tub himself ?? Considering the hotwater heater, tub, bathroom sink and toilet are all in the same tiny bathroom, it would be impossible for Jason not to notice the work going on 3-4 feet to his left (where the tub would be installed, presumably by lone plumber Mark ). My take: if Jason saw shoddy workmanship going on in that same bathroom where he was working, wouldn't it be incumbent upon him to correct it (since it's his plumber's license on the the receipt)?? SEE PICS. The other constant claim Jason makes is: "JR Tripp is no longer in business - I have a new legal company now." As if simply changing the name of your company absolves you of any professional responsibility (or even ethical responsibility) for backing up your own previous work and taking responsibility for the work that others may do under your master plumbers license. When I suggested Jason reimburse me for part of my expenses for correcting his shoddy work, he told me I was attempting to blackmail him. The truly disappointing thing here, is that I did everything I could to work with Jason on correcting this. I gave him a chance to do the right thing, and even was willing to pay him $500 to correct work that I suspected was a result of a shoddy installation (but was not 100% percent certain at that point). However, It's my belief that Jason clearly did not care about backing up his work or in retaining a good customer.

Response from Jason Ravitz Master Plumber Inc
I'm truly sorry for the member's feelings. Jason Ravitz Master Plumber, Inc. stands by all its work. However, I cannot be responsible for my former partner's work at a company which hasn't existed for 2+years. Unfortunately I've had a bad experience having a partner, that's why I work alone now. I offered to install a new tub for her for 1/2 the cost I normally charge. The member didn't agree. She wanted a different model, which is more involved with more work, for the same cost. I wish we could have resolved this situation.

Jason personifies true professionalism: he cares. Here are three examples. (1) When he removed one of the old toilets, Jason discovered that the flange was set too low, i.e. below the level of the tile floor. He could have placed the new toilet on two wax rings -- but no, that would not be right. Instead, he installed a new flange at the proper level, and he fixed it in place with hydraulic cement. A few extra minutes, one additional part from the truck ... problem solved. (2) When he took his first look at the old water heater, Jason noticed that the gas line (the branch fueling the water heater, not the main) was supported only by its connection to the water heater. His first step was to add a hanger to this line, so that it would not move out of place (thereby loosening the joints) during the de-install and re-install. A few extra minutes, some threaded rod and a hanger from the truck ... potential problem averted. (3) In the garage, Jason took the new water heater out of its cardboard packaging. He cut the cardboard into wide strips, and he laid the strips down on the finished area of the basement floor that he would need to traverse, between the equipment room and the garage. With his two-wheeler, he moved the old water heater and the new water heater over these protective strips. A few extra minutes ... the finished floor shows no signs that Jason was ever there. There is no shortage of capable plumbers. However, if you are interested in neatness, diligence, fair pricing and a craftsman with a focus on you, the customer, then Jason is the plumber you ought to call.
Description of Work: Jason removed three aging toilets and replaced them with new Toto products. Jason also removed an aging water heater and replaced it with a new Bradford-White 50-gallon model.
