My call was returned right away and I got a verbal estimate within a day, of $800. I agreed to it not really knowing if it was a good price because I was anxious to get the work done before the winter. Because of the height they had to work at, I figured the price was fair. Two men were finishing up when I got home from work-I had said it was fine to do the work anytime. They cleaned up every

Fantastic! Sam Ferrimy responded to our initial phone call the same day and came to give us an estimate within a couple of days. He is professional and pleasant to do business with. Work was accomplished within 2 weeks (given one week delay because of inclement weather). The installers were extremely efficient, very pleasant and removed all debris. There were no hidden costs and we are very pleased with the results.

Sam's estimator came to my home 03/28/15 looked over the project and the company sent me the estimate of $1500.00 for gutter and down spout replacement I signed the agreement and sent a deposit into them for $750.00 . Over the next month traded phone calls to schedule the work and today Sam stopped by and informed me that my project would cost $3000.00 not the $1500.00 originally agreed to . I find it frustrating that after a month to find out that his estimator made a mistake in pricing the project

We used Ferrimy Construction twice for Snow removal and Ice dams removal. For both occasions, Sam was very prompt on responding and coming out for work. His workers including Miner were very professional and nice as much as Sam was. Because we couldn't have our faucet outside of building work, they had to come back about twice, but they never complained and were very understanding. Their work was impeccable. I would highly recommended these guys to anybody who needs work on their roof. These are HONEST people! You will not be disappointed.

Called Monday 3/10/2015 needed Ice Damns removed from roof as soon as possible. I explained to Sam that we were experiencing water damage and that insurance company needed them removed before they could do anything about damage. They sent a crew out The very next day. They used steam and did a great job. Very happy customer.

Historic amounts of snow falling had created huge ice dams, which had caused leaks in multiple areas of our home in Feb. of ?15. We called multiple snow removal/roofing companies and most didn?t return our calls. Of those that did, Ferrimy Construction was the only company telling us they would actually come. One guy said he was ?getting 100 calls per hour" and he wouldn?t take the job since the roof wasn?t flat. Sam returned our call within a few minutes of when we left the message on Monday evening. He didn?t make any promises about when he would be here, but estimated it could be done within a two days, and asked us to call back if we didn?t hear back from him, which we did. In the end he was here on day 3 (Thursday), in light of the demand for this type of service, we felt it was miraculous to get him out that fast. The price he charged was in line with what other people we knew were paying. He and his crew were friendly, professional, and most of all got the job done so our leaks stopped. We asked if he would remove the ice dams, too, and he was very clear that they did not do that work, so we didn?t have any expectation of that happening. We?ll keep his business card and will call again in the future, hopefully for more routine maintenance.

Sam Ferrimy is great. I had water coming through my roof on Sunday afternoon 2/22 due to ice dams. I called his number, and he returned my call asking how bad it was. I told him I needed help. He was at a job and had another one ahead of me, but told me he would come by after. He gave me a second call before he arrived just to see how my situation was and tell me that he still planned on showing up. He was able to show up about 5:00 on a Sunday night. That's right...Sunday night. He was supposed to be closed all day, but he was returning calls trying to help people out the best he could even without his crew/tools. He gets up on my roof by himself as it's getting dark and proceeds to break up 2 important ice dams with a pickaxe I lent him. The next day his full crew shows up and finishes the job by clearing all the snow off the roof and breaking up more of the ice dams. Sam was professional, reliable, and friendly. Still can't believe he was driving around to people's houses by himself on a Sunday just trying to help people out. I would hire Sam and his crew again for any type of roof work I needed. Great guy!

Hello, thank you for your review, we appreciate it very much, We at ferrimy construction love to help people and provide, unmatched service, We have proven that our goal is to provide great service first. Even though we do not remove ice dams, we decided to break some of the ice because it was creeping over your skylights, and we were afraid that it would break the glass, It was the only way to stop the leak you had, we were glad that it worked, and that was the goal. The only reason I went out on Sunday which I usually don't do, only under special circumstances, but mostly to help out. thank you again.

Like so many others in the area we had severe ice dams with water coming in through the kitchen ceiling, vents and microwave to the extent that it required buckets, tarps, and a back up sump pump. We called and explained our situation to Sam who said he would re-arrange his schedule and clear our roof that afternoon. He arrived promptly and did an excellent job which stopped our water leaks. He called back the next day to insure the leaks had stopped. We were very pleased by Sam's work and while somewhat pricey, we felt it was worth it. I would strongly recommend Sam and Ferrimy Construction to anyone who is having roof problems.

My husband and I tried to keep up with the enormous amount of snowfall we received in such a ridiculously short period of time, but it became overwhelming. There were sections of the roof well beyond our ability to access, including a large shelf dormer with a nearly flat roof. I was concerned that the weight of the snow was going to result in that section of roof collapsing, not to mention the ice dams that had formed in spite of our raking. We had used Ferrimy Construction to install our gutters, previously; and, I was happy to see that they performed snow removal when I was looking for someone to address our problem. I was concerned that we would be out of luck, given the fact that thousands of people in our area were faced with the same difficulties and demand for snow removal was extremely high. I called and left a message. A couple of days later, Sam's wife called and told me that they were extremely busy, but Sam would get back to me in the next few days. Saturday morning, Sam called and stated they had an opening that day for snow removal. He knew how worried we were about the dormer, and we were under threat of impending rain that would add to the weight. He sent a crew of five men over, who worked diligently and safely to remove all the snow from our roof. It was an enormous relief, and my husband and I appreciated the tremendous amount of work they did.

We called this company because it was recommended and we were happy to see it's rating on Angie's List. (we are members). We called about a week ago, was promised that owner would come by on Friday, then Saturday to give us an estimate. We were looking for ice dams to be removed. Water was dripping through the ceilings. We indicated this. We were also hopeful to use this company in the future for our roof. We never got a call back. We understand how busy folks are right now because of the storms; but would have appreciated a call back to just let us know that you weren't ignoring our calls. We got no response back; not even aware if anyone ever came by to see our home. The damage is so out of control now as we waited for this provider; that we had to seek out other providers which we are in process of doing. I have no doubt (if they ever call you back) that their work may be good. But couldn't comment on that. It is disrespectful and unprofessional to not return calls even if to just touch based and present a timeframe to anxious customers. They lost a customer both in terms of ice dams and the possibility of a new roof in the near future. Don't have time for that, and can not recommend these folks.

They did an outstanding job. I called at 7AM in the morning, received a call back by 8:30AM. With the amount of snow we have had over the last month, I was expecting a day or so wait to get this done, but they were able to do it that day. In fact were at my house by 11:15AM after completing another roof. The men who did the work were excellent and very respectful of the property. When they were done with the roof, the reshoveled the areas where the snow was dumped so that I did not have to clean up after this. I had this done 2 years ago and had to re-shovel a lot of the area. I could not of asked for better response and service with this effort. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

With the recent weather we had ice dams and as a result some water leakage. I spoke to Sam on the phone and he offered excellent advice, and setup a time to come over. His DIY advice mitigated the immediate issues and even though he was overbooked, he came over himself, late to deal with the rest of the problem areas. Sam is knowledge and professional: he explained the true causes of the leakage and targeting only the problem areas. I plan to work with him, and already referred him to a friend.

It went very well and I'm hoping that this will now slow the water leaks into the house.
Description of Work: The excellent roofing crew came and shoveled the snow off of my roof. Considering that the snow was at least 3 feet deep in most places, this was an extremely dangerous job. Plus, they worked very hard in freezing weather. They were polite, professional, and not only did they clear the roof but they also shoveled away the snow after it had come down. That is, they cleared the driveway and front stairs, too. Couldn't have asked for more. They came when they said they would while other companies were not following through. Well done!

I woke up the morning after the blizzard and I saw that water was coming in through my walls underneath my windows. I called Sam from Ferrimy Construction because I used them before to replace the flashing on my chimney. They did a wonderful job with that so I knew they would be able to help me. Sam sent his team over right away. They proceeded to shovel my roof so the leaking stopped. I was impressed with their incredibly speedy response in such a busy time after a big snow storm. Sam and his team are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They always explain what is going on. As a new homeowner I am delighted that there is someone I can trust when things come up. Sam and his team are professional, trustworthy, reliable, and very reasonably priced. I will definitely use them again.

Sam came a few times to discuss the project and try to pull together an estimate. He's a nice guy - was responsive at first. But once we agreed on an estimate, Sam dragged his feet for weeks and weeks telling us "we were next" on his list. Each week we had to reach out again to ask when the job would get done. Finally we emailed him telling him that if we didn't hear from him we'd offer the job to someone else. He never responded, so that's what we did. Such a waste of time and a disappointment.

I'm an architect and builder who hired Sam Ferrimy from Ferrimy Construction to install a tile roof on a large, complicated residential project in Newton. The original roofer hired for the project backed out at the last minute (I think he was daunted by the scope and complexity of the work), and I was given Sam's name from the roofing supply house who were impressed with his work. I was apprehensive about meeting him, because I was clearly in a vulnerable position since I needed to replace the other roofer immediately. After meeting Sam and speaking with him for a few minutes I felt an instant rapport. He was clearly a problem-solver who was interested in all the details (some of them quite complicated). Often tradespeople just pretend to listen and then do the work however they want- Sam made sure that he understand exactly what I wanted and contributed many useful ideas in the process. His foreman were also exceptional individuals who were thoughtful, articulate, and hard-working. No matter what we threw at them they figured out a way to do it. We were so pleased with his work on the tile roof we also had him do all the copper work as well as installing a custom gutter system that we developed. I highly recommend Ferrimy construction for their unusual blend of competence, problem solving, and ease or working with. I should also add that Sam's price was entirely fair, and he made no effort to charge me more given my predicament. I intend to use him on all future roofing projects.

We contacted Ferrimy Construction about a leak in our roof around the chimney. The problem was inspected the following day by Sam Ferrimy and then an estimate was sent via email for a very reasonable price on reflashing the chimney. A few days later work was scheduled to begin. In the afternoon when the crew arrived it turned out that we didn't have roof or flashing problem, but the chimney was the issue. I was very happy to have been informed of this on the spot rather than having extra work done that was unnecessary. In addition, photos were presented of our chimney and roof to show what and where the problems were for us to know in more detail. Very well done. They opted not to do the small chimney job and we have someone else to handle the issue.

I interviewed at least five other roofing companies prior to finding Ferrimy Construction. Sam was by far the most responsive, accommodating and knowledgeable of all. From the very first phone call to now, almost a month after installation, Sam is still in touch to be certain everything is exactly how we want it. His team was just as service oriented and did a fantastic job on removing and installing the new roof. They completed the project in one day and returned the next to finish a few things and we are extremely happy with the results. Sam and his team made a very big project so easy and enjoyable. Their service and attention to detail are unmatched. I would call upon Sam and his team again for any other project...they are true professionals.

Sam is a friendly and knowledgable guy and he went through all the potential work that needed to be done on our dated cape. I finally decided to have just the front of the house done based on my conversation with him. THE WORK The quality of the work was excellent. The detail on the dental trim was especially impressive. I pointed out to Sam that I wish the adjoining cut pieces had been caulked and/or sealed but that is just a minor issue. Overall I was very happy with the work and was impressed the job was completed in one day. I was afraid that when I came home at 6pm on the first day there would be ladders everywhere and the interior of the house would be exposed but that wasn't the case! ISSUES When the old rotted wood was removed our blown in insulation went everywhere. There was really nothing the workers could have done to avoid this however they could have done a MUCH better job covering our boxwoods, window boxes and mulched flower beds. I would advise any homeowners with blown in insulation to make sure their contractors cover everything up to about ten feet from the house. This is the main reason I gave a grade of GOOD instead of EXCELLENT. An additional issue is I had to follow up with Sam several times to get a firm date for the job. At first it was going to be two weeks, then it got delayed a week three more times. I understand it's not easy for contractors to schedule exact dates but it got very frustrating. Ultimately though I'm just glad the job looks good.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly We found Sam to be extremely knowledgeable and professional, and the scope of the project increased per his suggestions as he progressed. His carpentry work is first-rate. Part of the expanded project involved exterior painting, and Sam?s painting subcontractors were, unfortunately, careless and unprofessional. And although the total project cost will exceed $40,000, the job remains uncompleted 4 months after work began (a month late); Sam is busy with other, larger projects and at this point we have no idea when/if he will finish. The Good When, in 1995, we moved into our c1960 home, we replaced most of the original windows with wood Marvin replacement windows. After living in the home for a little over a decade, some of the windows and many of the sills had already rotted out. We had them replaced at considerable expense, but watched with disappointment over the past few years as, once again, the sills and some of the windows rotted yet again. At the same time, we knew the original board-and-batten siding on one wing of our house needed replacing, as many of those boards were experiencing rot. Also, the gutter across the back side of our house had fallen down during last winter's severe weather. We met with several contractors to review the scope of the work we needed to have done, and were very impressed with Sam Ferrimy. We felt that Sam had some smart ideas about ways in which we might mitigate future window rot, including selective replacement of wood with composite material. Although we were prepared to replace ALL the board-and-batten siding, Sam advocated a more conservative approach, replacing only those boards that needed replacement. The composite material he proposed to use looked indistinguishable from the remaining wood boards. Once Sam's crew began removal of the old siding and were better able to assess the condition of the remaining boards, we did decide, in consultation with Sam, that it would make sense to replace all of the wood siding. And as they worked on the rear side of the house, where the gutter needed replacement and most of the rotted windows were located, Sam and his crew also noted damage to the fascia boards behind the gutters, and Sam recommended extending the roofline it so that water draining off the roof would channel properly into the new gutters. Since our roof is slate, this extension was small matter, but Sam not only designed a solution that we were comfortable with on our architect-designed house, but also found ? at a church re-roofing job in Quincy ? slates to match those on our 55-year-old house. Even when Sam was not on-site, his crew ? and especially the apparent crew supervisor, Minor ? came up with creative and aesthetically appropriate solutions to unexpected challenges they encountered in the project. These guys are truly craftsmen. While actively involved on the project, they worked nearly every weekday (with a hiatus of a couple of weeks while they awaited delivery of some special-order materials) -- and long days, often until 7pm or later. They were trustworthy -- we felt comfortable leaving our house's windows unlocked while we were away from the house during the day so that they could perform the windowsill work -- and they neatened up the job site each evening before leaving. Best of all, the work Ferrimy Construction performed on our house seems to us to be excellent quality. As a huge and unexpected side benefit, it seems to have resolved a basement flooding problem that had become fairly severe over the previous few months. The Bad Ferrimy Construction began work in May. After a couple of months, most of the work had been completed on our project, and Sam moved his crew to another job. In July we met with him to go over punch-list items and Sam suggested we hold back 1/8 of the total project cost until the work was completed. It is now mid-September and, except for one day in August when the crew returned to address a couple of punch-list items (and, thankfully, to remove the piles of ladders and other equipment that they had left in our yard), we are still waiting to have the work on our project completed. The painting sub-contractors Sam had assigned to our job (eventually we decided to have the entire exterior of the house painted, as well as the trim and touch-up that had originally been part of the project) were careless and sloppy. Paint was spattered in areas that should have been protected (see below), and hardware -- i.e., shutter fittings -- that they removed from our house were scattered throughout the yard and damaged. After cleaning their spraying equipment, they spilled the paint-filled water into our bushes. We were not happy and let Sam know. When we were home one day and the painters came inside to do some touch-up on the newly installed sills, one of them offered to do some minor additional touch-up on a interior wall, and we agreed. Given the few minutes of extra work involved, we were very surprised and shocked when Sam's bill included a $500 charge from the painting sub-contractors for this additional work. Frankly, given the way the offer was made (?Let me take care of this for you?) and the fact that the painters knew we were unhappy with some of their practices, we were not expecting to charged at all. Sam readily agreed to eliminate this charge from the bill when we took issue with it. The Ugly The piles of equipment and detritus left in our yard following the crew's departure made our property unsightly for a good part of the summer. One of these piles was unfortunately placed on top of a row of hostas, which never had a chance to grow this season, and which we hope will come back next season. Paint spatters remain on our patio wall and a lovely mercury thermometer with copper fittings, which the painters neglected to protect, remains with Sam who promised to clean it thoroughly. That was back in May. I fear it has been lost or damaged beyond repair. And, as we feared, much of the shutter hardware did get broken or lost, and has not yet been replaced. Even if we were to give up on Ferrimy Construction at this point, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to find another contractor willing/able to search out and replace the hardware and complete the outstanding items on our punchlist, even for the fairly significant amount that we held out from Sam's final bill. The Conclusion (yes ? finally!) Overall, we were extremely pleased with the work Ferrimy Construction did on our house. Sam is smart and was easy to get in touch with and responsive during the course of our project, and his polite and responsible crew did quality work that looks great. Too bad about the lack of follow-through. As many who have had work done on their houses know, this kind of failure is all too common among contractors. We thought Sam was different, and are disappointed we were wrong. UPDATE: Sam and Ferrimy Construction completed the agreed-upon work in November 2014.
Description of Work: We hired Ferrimy Construction to make various repairs to the exterior of our house: replacing wood trim and cladding that was prone to repeated rotting, replacing gutters, and replacing an old bulkhead door.
