Ferrimy Construction

After reviewing the issues I was having with my roof, the Ferrimy employee left and promised to email an estimate for the work I was requesting. Now, more than two weeks later, I have yet to see any estimate from this company. This, despite my emailing the company several days ago asking for a time estimate about receiving the estimate. I never got a reply to that email, either. 12/02/2011 - Sam Ferrimy called me after my initial review and explained that his email system had gone down and apologized for not getting back to me. Today I received the estimate by email. Unfortunately, I had already engaged another roofing company to do the repairs.

Wonderful. They responded quickly to assess the damage and then were sensitive to replace the tiles before the next forecasted rain in a couple days.

It went very well. The work started a day after scheduled, but considering the weather it was reasonable and there were good communications from Sam on updates. There was noise inside the house during the work, but that must be unavoidable.

I spoke to Sam Ferrimy of Ferrimy's GC Inc. on the phone. He is the specific roofing contractor for this deal in my area. We made an appointment for him to come to my home. He called 30 minutes after the time he'd scheduled to tell me he was running late. He arrived an hour later; 1 1/2 hours after the appointment. I showed him 3 places on my roof that needed minor repairs; if he had time to do all 3, great, if not I asked him to begin with the roof flange around the vent pipe that is leaking. The other two places were the flashing between the front porch roof and the front facade of the house, and the roof around one skylight in the kitchen addition in the back. While discussing each item, Sam told me that repair was not included in the coupon, explained what needed to be done to repair each, and then told me I should ask for my money back from Angie's List. It sounded to me like he didn't want to do the work. I pointed out to him that the coupon did not describe what tasks constituted "roof maintenance." He said loose or missing shingles. He said the roof flange around the vent pipe needed to be replaced. I asked him if he would do that and only that; he should been able to do that in the 2 hours of time covered by the coupon. I told him it's a yes or no question; I've paid $200, he's at my house to work, will he do just that one thing or not? He agreed he could do it in less than 2 hours, but told me again it was not included in the coupon and would be a $350 job and I should get my money back from Angie's List. I said, "So, you're telling me you won't do this repair and I should get my money back?" He replied, "Well no, I'm not saying that." I asked him again, yes or no; would he replace the roof flange around the vent pipe? He said no. I told him then we had no business together today, shook his hand and told him to go.

I found Ferrimy Construction on Angie's list. I called Sam for an estimate. Sam came to my house on a Saturday to meet with me. On Monday, I was given a written quote just for the gutters to be installed. I gave him a deposit 2 days prior to starting. He came and install all of the gutters in 1/2 a day and took the old gutters away. Sam also replaced some of my downspouts and did not charge me. I did not realize how bad my old gutters were pitched until I saw the how the new gutters were installed. I am very happy with my decision to use Ferrimy Construction.

I asked him to return after the Thanksgiving holiday so that he could install a new roof. We discussed standard versus architectural shingles and color, and he will show me samples of both after we agree on contract terms. As part of the contract he will remove all courses of shingles and dispose of them. I will furnish the material. Sam carefully scrutinized the roof, which is a disaster. But he was kind, helpful, respectful and non-judgemental. Although he could have left having done nothing, he took the time to purchase the tarp and monitored the installation. He is extremely patient and thoughtful. I will add a full report after the work is completed. Update as of Tuesday 20 December 2011. I went into this project with a bit of trepidation. But, Sam explained everything clearly and repeated same in his typed proposal. He was willing to work with me to establish a price I could afford. He required 1/2 down payment and 1/2 on completion. I met with Sam on Thursday 15th to discuss shingle color. He bought all materials.The dumpster was dropped off by 11:30AM on Friday 16th. Sam's crew was at my home at 7:15 AM on the morning of the 19th. They covered the entire house and foundation plants with protective cloth and tore off roof material down to the base. It was raining shingles, flashing and other debris for a long time. Best advice is to have your car(s) moved well away from the house. Not only does this ensure that no debris will fall on wind shield but also will allow necessary room for the crew's vehicles and equipment. Also, once they start removing shingles, stay in the house and out of the way of falling debris. After prepping the roof, they replaced the flashing and laid the shingles. It was rather cold and windy but, with the exception of two breaks, the crew worked non-stop until late afternoon. When they left not only did I have a new roof but also a clean yard. They raked all the debris and deposited it carefully in the dumpster. Dumpster removed at 8:30AM this morning. His crew was efficient and polite. Even the gentleman who dropped the dumpster was kind. I will recommend Ferrimy Construction to family, friends and strangers!!

I scheduled the appointment for September 19, but the workers never showed up. I called to find out what happened. I was very reasonable when I called for an estimated time of arrival after 30 minutes past the appointment time. He didn't know he had an appointment scheduled. The information wasn't relayed to him from the receptionist who the appointment was scheduled with. The receptionist called me and apologized, so we reschedule the appointment for September 21. When he came out, he showed up an hour early. He was here for barely 40 minutes. I don't feel he spent adequate time to properly inspect the roof in places other than the ones I pointed out, if he inspected it at all. I explained the offer was for 2 hours, and he told me 2 hours was unnecessary. I asked if he would come back and honor the remainder of the time if the roof wasn't fixed completely. He said of course, however he's not answering or returning any of my calls. The impression I get from this company is they're more concerned about quantity than quality.

Sam responded to my initial email immediately and came out to see the house that very day. He looked at the problem and gave me two options-- a less expensive but temporary option, and a more expensive but permanent solution. He said he understood the economy, so he likes to give people both options. He wrote up a detailed proposal and agreed to the changes my husband and I requested. His team was scheduled to start on Wednesday, but he encountered a few unforeseen problems with his current job. Each day, I received an email from him giving me an update of when they would start. He estimated 3-4 days for our job, but finished in one. The work was well done and the team did a good job of keeping the house clean, both inside and out. Finally, Sam kept to his word and charged what he said he would, not inflating the cost as we've seen contractors do before. It was a wonderful experience and I'm very grateful to Sam and his team for restoring my faith in contractors.

Sam responded to my call and asked me to email him with details, which I did. I told him that I had an Angie's List coupon that was about to expire. he said "no problem" and came out today to do the work. He and one of his men assessed my roof and Sam asked me questions and let me ask him some as well. He is polite and patient. We reviewed what I was hoping to have done, and they began right away. Overall, a good experience.

His crew was professional and hard working. I would definitely recommend this company without hesitation. Sam's price was the most reasonable and inclusive of the four other companies I contacted.

Woke up to leaking window frames and giant ice stalactites hanging from my roof with no idea what to do about it. Husband was tied up at work so I hit the internet. Sam at Ferrimy roofing was there much faster then I expected and he got the job done for the best price I could find. I now use him for painting, gutters, roofing, and all construction needs. We will be remodeling and Ferrimy will be doing it!

I got them off of Angie’s List. They charged me $2400 to put up the gutters, $1500 to replace the dead wood and $350 for the painting. It looks fantastic. They came to do the gutters, but the trim was done incorrectly and they corrected it. I would use them again in the future if need be.

We had damage from ice dams over the winter, and being a procrastinator I waited until June to do anything about it. I called Sam and he answered the phone and listened to me describe the problem and what I wanted done. I was thrilled to find out that he was comfortable communicating via email/text as I don't always have the opportunity to make a phone call. He came over and looked at the problem and gave me an estimate for doing the roof work. I found him knowledgeable and agreeable (and he had such good reviews on Angie's list and elsewhere) that decided to have him give me an estimate for covering the fascia with vinyl. He came on two consecutive Saturdays and performed the work. The roof and fascias look great. I'm pleased with the outcome and would hire him again. If I had any complaints, it would be that I found some evidence on the ground that soffit vents had been put in (maybe three or four of the bits of wood they cut out of the soffits to make the vents) but considering how many vents they had to make, I don't consider this a real issue.

Ferrimy came out to our house in May to provide an estimate of roof/gutter work that needed to be performed, but they never followed up with a written estimate, and as a result, I was not able to apply the purchased BIG DEAL to services rendered. I have attempted to contact Ferrimy by email to prompt an estimate, but have not received anything.Could I get a refund on my BIG DEAL purchase?

I discovered Ferrimy construction when Sam was subcontracted though my builder to do the roof on my new home. I was very impressed with the quality of work he did, and when I learned he was willing to take on additional jobs on his own, I hired him to do several other projects for me. The Ferrimy construction crew installed ice and water shield on the entire roof and wrapped it around the fascia to prevent ice dams. The roof has survived two winters without a hitch. I found Sam to be very courteous and his estimate very reasonable. Sam's guys are friendly and professional and do excellent work. The house has a hip roof and a gabled garage.

Ferrimy Construction did fantastic work on my deck. Sam is one of the nicest, most considerate contractors I've worked with. He went above and beyond my expectations. I got three estimates for this job. Not only was Sam's price substantially lower than the others, he also came up with an innovative design that allowed the deck to follow the curve of the stone wall behind the house. The other two contractors would have built a square deck and left an ugly gap between the wall. Sam got around this issue by custom-fitting all the support beams to length and bolting them directly to the wall and then cutting the deck to follow the contour. On the other side of the deck, Sam attached the beams to the house. This required removing and patching some of the siding. Sam did this seamlessly. When we discovered that the existing concrete footings were too high, Sam ground them down at no additional cost. Sam supplied samples of several types and colors of decking materials to help me choose the one I wanted. Sam and his crew were a pleasure to work with and the deck came out beautifully. Thanks!

The job we needed done was 440 square feet of roofing on a garage. We had already torn off the shingles and tar paper so all he had to do was come in with his crew and paper/shingle the roof, replace about 14 linear board feet of rot in the original tongue and groove roofing and install four skylights into the roof. We also needed a rubber roof installed on a deck above a walk in porch. The decking was to be removed by us prior to his arrival with his crew. Sam initially made an error in calculation of the garage roof size (he thought 880 sq. ft. as opposed to 440 sq. ft.) so he wanted 9,500 dollars for the job. Upon receiving estimates from two of the top 5 roofing companies on Angie's List, we found Sam's price to be about 5,500 dollars too high. We and Sam communicated after the fact and he took the opportunity to clarify and fix his mistake. Even with the clarification, we still feel Sam's price is abnormally high.

They came out and indicated that the lead flashing needed to be redone, gave the estimate, and completed the work within a couple weeks of initial contact. 2 men showed up to do the work and spent a while doing what appears to be a very professional flashing job(I can see the roofer that did the roof(15years prior) did not spend the time to do the kind of work that was relly needed at that time, as it never looked as tidy)

From the initial estimate, to actually delivering the project, Sam and the crew were punctual, professional, and delivered on all expectations. The project was completed in two days, as they had estimated, and the site was left as clean (actually cleaner) then when they had started. We were totally satisfied with the project. Nice folks to work with, too.

I originally bought a coupon for roof repair work on Angie's list for 2 hours of roof repair. While on site for that work (leaky skylight repair), Sam gave me a very competitive quote to replace the facia boards, which were rotting, and repair my gutters. Since his quote was significantly lower than others, as well as the fact that he was willing to work with the existing gutters (as opposed to replace them as others insisted needed to be done), I went ahead and hired him for that job as well. He was very good about communicating when he was going to start, and always kept to the schedule he had given me. As it turned out, we encountered some serious rot inside my roof, behind the rotted facia. He took it in stride, and even came back on Saturday to finish up. The end result looks great, the gutters work flawlessly (and I didn't have to buy new ones!). The price ended up much higher than the original quote, but that was due to a lot of unanticipated work, which caused the job to take almost twice as long as it would have.

We got calls immediately after purchasing the Big Deal ($199 for two hours of roof maintenance), and they were very reachable. We eventually schedule them a few weeks later. Very punctual, helpful, and polite. They spent a total of about 40 minutes at our house. While there, they made some spot repairs to potential problem areas (flashing, small voids), and explained why we have a small leak around our chimney (needed re-leading). They said they'd provide a quote for this work, but it hasn't arrived, two months later. In addition, they said it'd take about 1.5-2 hours to relead the chimney, so I was a little put off by the fact that they were only present for 40 minutes, and that that additional work could have been done with a bit more than the time remaining from the Big Deal offer. I'm more put off by the lack of follow-through. We take advantage of the Big Deals frequently, and are usually pleased with the value...this one left me wanting.

When we had terrible snow storms in January 2011, we developed ice dams that caused water to leak through our living room wall. We were so worried that we emailed several companies at once to ask for snow removal, and Sam Ferrimy was the first to email us back. He did the snow removal quickly and for a reasonable fee ($450). After the snow had melted, we had Sam Ferrimy come back out to look at the roof--we had several leaks along the edges of a shed dormer as well as peeling of the lead flashing around our chimney. Again, Sam responded promptly to our request and came out to make an assessment. We got three quotes for the job in addition to the opinion of our homeowner's insurance assessor. Of the 3 roof contractor's, Sam's plan seemed the most reasonable in that he recommended something that sounded like it would fix the problems without redoing the entire roof (which would have been unnecessary since the roof is only 8 years old). Sam's plan was also the most reasonably priced ($1850, including an Angie's List coupon) but not so low as to make us worry that he would cut corners (he clearly does not cut corners). Sam and his workers were consistently courteous, responsive, and pleasant. They did the work as scheduled and the roof and chimney look great. They cleaned up completely when they finished each day. We would definitely hire Ferrimy's again.

We had bad leak in past Winter. Our roof was old and needed work. I got Ferrimy Construction's phone number from one of my neighbors. He said the company did very nice work for his builder friend. I called and the owner-Sam answered phone. We quickly setup the time for Sam to look at the roof. He cam right on time and looked roof. He was very knowledgeable and honest. He suggested that we should replace 2/3 of the roof and the shingles looked 20 years old as well as part of the rubber roof. The other 1/3 of the roof are rubber but was replaced once and still in pretty good condition. I checked previous house owners records and found that the roof was exactly 20 years old. Sam also advised on how the new roof should be done and what problem that old roof had. We quickly got the project going with the price agreed and the color and material picked. Within a week. the roof was installed with professional and exceptional quality. I am an engineer and am very picky with the quality of the work. I actually took time of and got on the roof watching sometimes. Sam's crew are very hard working people. They do excellent professional work with attention to all the details. All those little things I noticed they got them covered. I was so happy and never had such a good experience with contractors. I think I am very lucky to find Sam. He is a such nice and honest person! Thank you Sam and please pass my thanks to your crew! Now, after the roof is done, I want Sam to do additional work inside of our house. I highly recommend Sam's company to anyone who need to have work done on his/her house. You will definitely have a peace of mind with the whole process.

After a minor problem getting in contact with him, a date was arranged. This had to be rescheduled due to some unexpected work at another house on the same day. On the new date, he arrived on time and did the work as decribed above

I happened to catch them on a slow day and they came over within 2 hours to size up the job. Sam gave me a rough estimate on the spot and went to get materials. When he had the materials in hand he called me and gave me a firm estimate. The work was done in a few hours that same day. They installed soffet vents and ducts form the bathroom fans to the vents. They did a good job and I would certainly deal with them again. It was a small job but it was great to get it done that fast. I originally thought about venting through the roof but Sam suggested going through the soffet which I'm sure saved me money and needless worry about roof vents and leaks.
