Ferrimy Construction

I sent the signed quote with the deposit 4 weeks passed and after calling they came unannounced 2 weeks later. The did not clean up. They only took the old gutters but left nails and the old gutter hangers all around the yard. They did a good job and the gutters are affective.

I was calling roofers to get an estimate to replace my almost 30 year old roof. I understood it would be an expensive project, did some research and had a number of approx cost. What I didn't expect was that, in this season, roofers were so busy especially small companies. Some roofers never replied my phone messages and emails - of course I would doubt their future warranty and very likely if I write a bad review for them they would commend "never have my record". Large roofing companies were easy to get touch with. But the problem was - I found their prices were way higher above reasonable range. More interestingly, be careful to read the fine print in their paper work, e.g. customer needs to pay permit fee - I feel it doesn't make sense for a over $10,000 project. Anyway, among all the roofers I called, Sam was the one I felt most comfortable. He reponded my phone and email very quick, came to my house on time, explained the project very well, very honest and more importantly his quota is very reasonable. In this way, he showed his professional to me. I was a really difficult decision for me not to use him. I used another roofer for other reasons. But I would like to recommend Sam to others who are looking for good roofers like me in last coupe of weeks.

All in all it was a good experience. Some issues with communication. Taking some time to respond, there was some confusion with the pricing when request was changed, but it was handled to my satisfaction.

I had rotting pine fascias and needed them to be replaced. Sam recommended removing the existing gutters and replacing the fascia boards with composite fascias and installing a new gutter system. The work was done in two days. The crew was very professional and polite. They cleaned the area thoroughly making sure to pick up all nails and scrap. Sam is very good to work with. He doesn't mind explaining why he recommends certain materials and processes. I think he tries to make repairs in the most cost effective manner. He discouraged me from doing expensive unnecessary repairs to the existing soffit vents when I asked about it. This was the second time I employed Ferrimy and I would not hesitate to use them again. I was under a time constraint to get this work done and Sam went out of his way to accommodate me.

Good experience. Communication and timeliness are half the task, and Sam and his crew did great on those fronts. Sam always got back to me quickly or immediately, and I knew what was going to happen ahead of time. The new bathroom fan works great, and crew member Mynor answered my questions about venting, even walking me around the property to show where the fan was venting outdoors. Crew was polite and hard-working. My husband was a little disappointed with pipes that were moved inside the attic, because they were placed on styrofoam supports, and he expected higher-quality parts like metal clamps for the price of the job. But overall we're very happy and the outside roof work looks good.

The guy put a ladder up to my roof, climbed to the top of the ladder and never even got on the roof. He came back down, and told me that my roof was in such bad shape he didn't want to walk on it. He said the shingles were so loose he was afraid he would make it worse if he walked around. He said there was nothing he could do - and I needed a new roof. I was a little surprised he didn't even attempt to go on the roof, but I figured at least I would get my $199 back. Wrong again! He said it was not his fault he could not provide the service. He offered to give me an estimate for a new roof, and said he would apply the $199 to the cost of the roof. A few days later, I received an estimate. I couldn't afford a new roof even if I wanted him to do the work. I just lost $199. WHAT A DEAL!! The whole experience was so bad that I let my membership lapse for quite awhile.

The process and results were excellent. Ferrimy was responsive to emails and phone messages, and we developed a reasonable proposal and quote. They were also quick to schedule the work and showed up on time, finishing a little faster than expected. The new and repaired gutters look great! There were no problems afterward, except for a minor issue that was fixed promptly and completely the next day. UPDATE: More than two months later, the new gutters have been performing wonderfully. A major drainage issue was solved.

They seem to be good carpenters, but I guess they didn't seem to understand what the job was. They got a bunch of plastic lumber. We had to call them back twice for them to use it all up. Now, we are looking how and where we should put it all based on the worst one first and the ones least rotten to be the last. I was disappointed because after they were gone I realized that there was one that was not replaced that had some really bad rotting on it. I caulked and waterproofed it myself. They are great carpenters but I will not use them again because they didn't seem to respond to what the job was.

We first contacted Ferrimy Construction about a year ago to address a small section of roof that began leaking. While we knew that our entire roof needed to be replaced in the near future, we weren't prepared to move forward with the complete project at that time. Sam Ferrimy came out, addressed our concerns about the small section of roof, and completed the repairs. We were very happy with his work. About 9 months later, we experienced a leak that appeared in our house to be coming from the area previously repaired. I phoned Sam, and he was at my house within the hour (late on a Friday afternoon/early evening). Sam was able to determine what was going on and where the problem was located. It turned out that the source of the new leak was an area of the roof that had not yet been addressed, but Sam did not hesitate to help us with a temporary fix even though the leak was not related to any of his work. This year, we moved forward with the replacement of the remainder of the roof at our home. Sam Ferrimy provided a competitive estimate, and was able to explain the differences between his estimate and another estimate we had received. We decided that the quality of the work Sam Ferrimy was proposing was of a higher quality than the other contractor had proposed, and that although his price was higher, we would be getting good value for the completed product he proposed. Throughout the scheduling of the work and the performance of the work itself, Sam was always accessible and responsive. His crew was on time, was courteous, and the work was completed within the time frame initially estimated. The roof looks great, and the workers left the site very clean and picked-up. Although the work has just been completed, everything appears to have been completed as promised. We would recommend Ferrimy Construction without reservation, and would not hesitate to contact them again for future work if needed.

Sam and his crew did a superb job at my home in Cambridge. I originally brought him in to get an estimate on repairing some old rotting gutters, but after he came and saw them, he told me about a new option of using fiberglass gutters which match the existing style of the wood gutters on the home. Moreover the fiberglass gutters can be purchased with the paint color embedded in the fiberglass so that they'll never need repainting. I was somewhat skeptical about installing a modern material on an old home, but after I went to some other sites where he had done this type of work I was convinced that it was the right move. Now that the work is done, I am very pleased with the result. The gutters are a perfect match to the old gutters and were installed with care and precision. Sam has a small crew and it took a while for them to get started on my project, but once they did start they came every day and completed the work promptly. After the work was done, I noticed during a subsequent rainstorm that a couple of the gutters weren't draining properly in a few spots and spilling over the gutter edge. I emailed Sam about it and he sent his crew over immediately to check into those areas and adjusted them so that they now drain correctly. Sam is a very nice guy who really takes pride in his work and stands behind it. I also want to mention that his crew are very nice people, especially Miner.

I am updating my review of Ferrimy Construction because it turns out there were some miscommunications, which have been addressed and that has changed my view of my experience with them.. They were very responsive to my initial request to have someone come and give me an estimate. Their office manager got back to me within an hour of my initial email and set an appointment to have someone come give me an estimate for a new gutter the following Thursday. There was some confusion on the day of the scheduled appointment. The person who was originally supposed to come and provide the estimate was not able to make it, and there seemed to have been some internal communication challenges, as no one contacted me to let me know. After a few calls to the office, someone did come to look at the job, but it was over two hours after the time of the original appointment. Contrary to my initial review, it turns out they did in fact send an estimate early the next week, which unfortunately ended up in my junk email, leading me to believe it had not been sent. The estimate was very reasonable.

Roof inspection was haphazard at best. He spent very little time looking at my shingles, etc. Had him install a rain deflector I had bought. Installation of rain deflector ended up ruining the rain deflector since he didn't really know how to assemble the unit. To his credit, he came back with a rain deflector he fabricated in his shop and put it on the roof but it wasn't sealed to the shingles so water wasn't adequately deflected. Later I ended up on the roof and sealed it myself. I never got the impression that he was an expert on roofing issues.

I can't say enough good things about Sam and the crew at Ferrimy Construction. I previously worked with them on the renovation of my primary residence and they did such a stellar job that I hired them again for my vacation home. Since they did great work for me before and the price was below my expectation, I didn't even need to get other estimates. The house came out looking fantastic. It's amazing how they were able to take such an old house and make it look brand new again, while still preserving the original character. I'm very detail oriented and know that I can be hard to please. Sam really exceeded my expectations. For example, I had planned on just replacing the old rotting gutters with new wood ones, but Sam suggested using a new type of fiberglass gutters that look exactly like wood. They were a bit more expensive, but it was definitely worthwhile since they are much easier to clean, don't need to be oiled, and never rot. Even though it took them longer to put up than the wood ones they originally quoted, they didn't charge more for installation. Also, Sam thought it would be nice to add a bit more detail to the trim around the dormers, and he ended up rebuilding all the fascia with a lot more layers of trim to add character and make the gutters align better. He also used copper flashing over the windows which matches the gutters and looks great. Unlike other contractors that juggle several different jobs and make each client feel like the lowest priority, Ferrimy has just one crew and they stayed fully focused on the job from start to finish. They weren't able to start on the day they had originally planned, but they started the following week and worked late to make up time. Plus... even though they had a nearly 2 hour drive to Cape Cod, the crew showed up before 9:30 every morning, except for a few days that it rained. Each day when they wrapped up, they cleaned up the yard and threw all the excess shingles and scraps in the dumpster. After they finished, Sam went around the yard, picked up all the old nails with a magnet and made sure there were no scraps in the bushes or anywhere else. With the quality they did, I'm really impressed they finished the whole job in less than 4 weeks. Even though Sam works mostly on high-end homes, he was willing to take on this small project at a great price for an old client. He really cares more about quality than income. He always says that maintaining a good relationship is paramount - and I guess that's why he always gets such great reviews from his clients!! I know that Ferrimy does things right the first time so I won't need to worry about fixing things later. I would definitely recommend him (And have done so many times)!

He checked the roof and the shingles and said that it would last for another couple of years. He did some minor repair work.

I was very pleased. They repaired the leak on my roof and the replaced the gutter on the front of my home. I was very impressed that they knew what they were talking about.

The response was the day I put in an inquiry, that was great. The person doing the inspection for quote shows up on time, that was great. The person did not show up with a ladder. They came to the front door, announced himself (to my mother-in-law), and then went to look at the flat roof from the ground. He spent all of 2-3 minutes on the property from the ground, before just getting in his car and leaving. After calling multiple time after 30 minutes he picked up the phone. He said it looks pretty expensive and that he will send out a quote. That was the last conversation, which is fine with me for someone he didn't even really see what the job was.

I purchased an Angies List Big Deal valued at $349 for $199. I asked for them to come by and provide estimates for removal of moss from the roof and sealing of leaks the chimney and/or reflashing around the chimney. They came by, took pictures of brickwork of the chimney needing repointing, ice damage on the front hiproof, and told me that the moss could be pressure washed. They might have caulked around the chimney (I'm not sure). I asked them to provide me with estimates regarding the reflashing, the repointing, the moss removal, and the repair to the hip-roof. I never heard back from them.

I would recommend Ferrimy Construction. Sam Ferrimy was wonderful to work with. He took the time to understand our concerns and addressed them appropriately. His workers were conscientious and pleasant. We were extremely happy with the outcome!

Sam, the owner of FC, came to my house around June, as did other potential roofers. His estimate was in the middle of the "ball-park" of the other roofers. The weather this summer was not too conducive to roofing, so FC did not come to my house until late October or early November to do the job. A few times I thought FC would never do the job, but after taling with a few other roofers they verified how hard it was to schedule roofing jobs this past summer. FC's suppliers delivered the shingles, roofing materials, and a dumpster a few days before to my house. FC's crew arrived early on Saturday AM and began wrapping the sides of the house with draping to direct the nails and old roofing materials away from the house. FC removed two smaller skylights in two bedrooms and one larger skylight in the attic. Each member was quite friendly and happy to listen to my attempts to spreak with them in Spanish. Apparently, I spoke reasonably well as they wanted to know how I learned to speak it. When I told them that I listened to Mexican soccer matches and to telenovelas, they laughed. At the end of the day they had removed all old roofing, had carted the roofing to the dumpster, and had made a few preliminary passes around the house with a large magnet to collect nails (quite a few). For those who have never seen or experienced a roofing job, it is very messy. Not only was there a lot of rubbish around the house but also inside the attic. All the walking, hammering, and replacing old boards had loosened 100 years of dust, dirt, and loose wood. I wore old clothes and a breather to clean-up the mess inside the attic (not full-sized). The crew returned on Sunday to finish the job. Due to some confusion, the carpenter did not know that installing the skylights was part of the job. He returned on Wednesday (bad weather on Monday and Tuesday) to install the skylights. Anyway, the re-roofing went smoothly. Excess roofing and a few new nails fell around the house. Again, the crew swept up the material and walked the magnet around the house. The one criticism I have is that the carpenters brought dirt into the house on Wednesday. I had placed some drop cloths in the two bedrooms, but the carpenters must have moved them as they were installing the skylights. I found a few nails and a few small streaks of roofing tar on the floor. I was able to remove the tar easily a few weeks later after it had hardened.

I contacted Sam Ferrimy via phone & email regarding the work stated above in Jamaica Plain. Sam was very responsive and we were able to set up a mutually agreeable time to meet and review the job. Sam arrived early to our appointment and spent almost 30min with me reviewing any issues that he felt needed immediate attention and also pointed out items that would need repair in the future. After the visit, Sam stated he would email me a quote within 24hrs. The email and quote arrived in a clear & detailed document which explained the approximate timeline along with a breakdown of the cost of the job. The day of the repair, Sam had his employee call me approximately 1 hour before arriving and then called again when they were a little bit closer. Due to poor weather, the job was completed over 2 days. During those 2 days, all employee's of Ferrimy were punctual and professional. The job site was left clean and the roof has not leaked since Ferrimy's crew repaired the roof. Sam is a great contractor and I have recommended him to a few of my friends. I have nothing to but excellent things to say about Ferrimy construction and plan to use him for a few other jobs.

No problems. Evaluated the roof and recommends placing a "cricket" by chimney. Quick and efficient. No complaints.

I sent a bunch of inquiries out via email to roofing companies in the area. Sam got back to me very quickly by email -- he had his crew out that day to give an estimate and back the next to fix it. I really appreciated the speed with which we were able to get the problem fixed and that he was able to communicate to me via email (so much easier for me from my desk at work.) The price seemed reasonable as well. I'll certainly turn to Ferrimy Construction next time I need a construction project done!

We had them out to our home for the big deal coupon and they did a great job. I would recommend them to others. Everything went fine.
