This is the worst experience I have ever had with a contactor I hired Milford Hardwood to install all new hardwood on our first floor to match our existing family room hardwood and install all new hardwood on the 2nd floor to match our master bedroom hardwood, as well as repair a rotting board in our master bathroom and some other small repairs to existing hardwood The owner of Milford Hardwood, Peter Vignone, came out to my house and we have a very specific, 1 1/2 hour long, discussion as to exactly what I wanted. It was very simple from my perspective as all I needed was to install new wood that matched the existing wood and then sand and stain everything to match. Peter definitely understood what I wanted. He measured everything and says he has everything he needs, and then passes me to his daughter, Julie Atherton. We schedule everything for the week of 4/15/22-4/23/22 for a total cost of $18,275.76 of which $9,137.88 was paid in advance of project completion. Milford Hardwood hired a subcontractor to install the wood two week prior to the sanding and staining. I spoke with Julie Atherton during the install and asked that Milford Hardwood come inspect the job prior to sanding and staining to correct some install defects and to check their subcontractors work. Julie assured me that Peter would come by and make sure everything is right before the sanding and staining. The time comes, and on 4/15/22 we move all our furniture, pack up our family and three animals, and leave for a week so they can do the job. I text Julie Atherton before we leave and make sure she know how to reach us for questions. When we returned on 4/23/22 we find that Milford Hardwood installed the entirely wrong grain of wood on the first floor and the wrong species and stain color on the 2nd floor and left 2 rooms unfinished and covered in wood patch. This is very obviously wrong as all the new wood butts up directly to the existing hardwood and the color and grain are not even close. I call Milford hardwood immediately upon our return and Peter Vignone comes back out and looks at the job. He acknowledged that he did not come out prior and check any of the work before sanding and staining and that the hardwood that was installed did not match the existing wood. He said that he would talk to his distributor and subcontractors and find out what happened and correct it as soon as possible. In the meantime, I did a 5 minute google search session about the different species and grains of hardwood and emailed Milford Hardwood a picture showing what I currently had installed and wanted to match versus what they installed. Milford Hardwood then sent out a flooring distributor specialist who confirmed that the wrong species and grain were installed on both levels of our home. I came to understand that Milford Hardwood had subcontracted out the installation to one company and the sanding and staining to another company. It is very obvious that Milford Hardwood never checked to make sure that the correct wood was ordered and installed nor did they check on either of their two subcontractor's work to make sure that it was correct. So, now it's 7 months later and Milford Hardwood is refusing to fix the job or refund our money and will not respond to any communications. We are now having to sue Milford Hardwood to try to get back the over $9,000 we have paid them for an obviously incorrect and incomplete job that lowers the value of our home. Check out the pictures for context and buyer beware.

The service was great. They came with a good quote and timely. We had a little error in the measuring but they stood behind their quote. I spent $2500. The staff and workers were good and professional and they left the area clean It took them four days to do it.

[removed member name], The squeaking of the flooring was coming from your subfloor and was not installation error. The subfloor was screwed done as requested. We would never guarantee that all squeaks would be eliminated. When a subfloor has numerous squeaks it is due to joists and beams within the house. We are not finished carpenters and do provide that work to shoot nails into the beams. With the uneven boards, the flooring product you chose has a micro bevel with a squared end. It is stated to all customers that with the square end in the Bruce product that you can get high and low boards on the butt end. This is a pre- finished mill product and with that being the case they can not finely sand or mill the square edge. Other products were shown to you that had micro bevel & micro end but you chose to not go with that product. As for follow up our installers & the owner did return to your home when these issues where brought to our attention.

Description of Work: Patched and refinished a hardwood floor in a bedroom. The workmanship was very good and the guy that did the work was very friendly. The communication between them and us was a bit rough/confused otherwise I would have given them an A. I would use them again and I would recommend them to a friend/family member.

We wanted to go with a local outfit as we thought this would be better than a box store. We were incredibly wrong. They subcontract all their work. In our case, one installer downstairs and others for upstairs. Downstairs is decent although another installer giving us a quote for other work asked what happened with our floor? Upstairs is a disaster. They marked the walls everywhere taking the trim off. They absolutely butchered the install. It's like the floor is floating in spots and other spots it's very tight and creaks. Trying to get Milford Hardware to come look at it took call after call. The original installers were sent back several times and simply nailed through the top of the wood which leaves nail marks. When that wasn't sufficient, they sent the downstairs installer but he didn't know why they were told to come. After lifting sections the scope of the issue was clear. The boards near the wall were half inch off the floor in an arc. When we finally got the owner there he admitted it was awful and said it appears they used the wrong tools when they got to the walls. This explains why two feet out from every wall is soft and sinks. This apparently wasn't enough to get them to take proper action. It was their position that everything was OUR fault because the we don't run a humidifier and air conditioning all day to keep the exact humidity correct. My question is why the downstairs isn't the same as upstairs and why doesn't the other hardware previously installed have the same issue? The owners DO NOT review the work of their subcontractors nor do they live up to any level of accountability about the work of their subcontractors. This company should not be considered for work in your home and if anyone you know is considering them, they should be strongly cautioned against it. They might be good if you have no issues, but if you do, they will not stand behind their work as much as they say they do. Rev

Milford Hardwood Floors does not subcontract out all their work. We are a family owned business and the owner is the top installer as well as other family members. We do also work with subcontractors that have been with our company for years. With this customer and situation an independent inspector from Mirage Hardwood Floors was hired to go out to assess this flooring complaint of gaps, etc. It was determined by the inspector that the homeowner was not properly controlling his environment. The inspector also noticed that the downstairs was also incurring the same conditions. Our contract of terms and conditions states that we are not responsible for issues that may arise due to not controlling the home environment. Milford Hardwood followed the proper claim process and worked with this customer along with Mirage. We strive to make all our customers happy and satisfied. We have installed flooring in many homes in this homeowners neighborhood and I have personally spoken with many of those homeowners and they love their floors and extremely satisfied. We are sorry that you were not happy with the inspectors report, we feel we did provide superior service.
I have used Milford Flooring for both a laminate floor and also carpeting in my office and spare bedroom...Both projects went off great, office staff provided timely quotes, installers were their promptly on the scheduled install day and worked diligently to complete project - I am actively looking around my house for more projects for them to do.. it was a pleasure doing business with Milford Flooring

It was a horrible nightmare. The installers showed up at 8 am and didn't leave until 10:30 pm. What they left me with was, large scratches on the new floor they installed, my furniture was piled in a corner in the rooms. Saw dust and wood left everywhere, I was up until midnight picking up debris and sweeping and still didn't finish with cleaning up after them because I had to go to work the next day. They left a huge pile of saw dust on my lawn which killed my grass. They dented my refrigerator and didn't pay for the damages, they left a huge hole in my wall. The repair on the hole was them stuffing the hole with so much plaster it bulged out of the wall. I was told it would diminish once dried, it didn't. Some of my door moldings were damaged and you can tell where the installers tried to hammer them back in. Needless to say, it has to be repaired. They somehow sliced my gas line for my stove which cost $430 to get a plumber down to repair, they did pay for that. They also cut my cable line. The most disgusting thing they did is leave a splatter of human crap on my bathroom wall where one of the installers got sick and no one cleaned up the mess. This nightmare continued when I reported all that occured and the owners of Milford didn't believe me, luckily I took pictures. After about 1 1/2 months they finally agreed to come and repair the damages but instead left me more angry as to the repair jobs would have been better if I did them myself. One of the floor boards was lifting and when they tried to repair it they chipped the board next to it and filled it with wood putty. Who does that? This can't be an isolated incident. I would understand if they came to do the repairs and did them in a professional manner. I don't understand why repairs made things worst instead of better. I would never recommend this company to anyone. I forgot to mention that they pieced the bullnose on the stepdown to go into the dining room, it looks horrible. This is such an amatures job. I have a 5 inch trim molding at the bottom of my stairs where they left a huge chip, they tried to fix it with wood putty. The putty is the wrong color and does not fill the chip, also looks horrible. So even though the bill was $5,400, it cost me so much more in the long run because I've had to hire others to repair the repairs that Milford Hardwood Flooring did and didn't do. I also used this company for carpet in two of my bedrooms. The carpet that I selected was a different brand than I chose. When I brought this to the owner, which is a different owner than the hardwood department of Milford Hardwood Flooring, they kept insisting the level of carpet I chose was the one I got, they wouldn't even consider that I might know what I'm talking about. The color was so close that until I went to pay my balance, that is when I realized it was the wrong brand. I let that one go because the install when perfectly fine and it looked great. Oh, I forgot to mention the hardwood installers put three stains on this new carpet while installing the floor in the hall. The carpet was only 1 week old.

[Member's name removed], We are sorry you feel your experience with Milford Hardwood Floors was not a good one. We strive to please every customer that walks through our door. While we don’t disagree with some of the issues you did have, we do feel when the issues were brought to our attention our response was prompt and the owner was out immediately to meet with you. From that point forward the scheduling of the repair work was discussed and due to your work schedule and ours an acceptable time was agreed upon. The repairs were completed and we did stand behind our work. Our company has been in business over 25 years and we have a upstanding reputation. We strive to provide excellent customer service & installations and do feel unfortunate that this rare incident of a not perfect installation happened at your home. We thank you for the feedback. Feedback whether positive or negative helps us to move forward and better our company.

Milford hardwood did an excellent job on the refinishing project. They came when they said they would. They were professional and kind. They did a fantastic job in the time they said they would. They made excellent recommendations on what to do and what not to do in terms of color and finish so that I LOVE my floors! Also, one spot wasn't perfect so I called them three weeks later. They came out the next day and fixed the spot I didn't like. I can't even tell where the spot was. It's flawless! I recommend them completely and will be calling them for a hardwood installation next! Thank you Milford Hardwood!

They were excellent. They came immediately for a quote and we are not going through the project for some reason but he was excellent. The project that we were supposed to do has nothing to do with the floors with another contractor. He was very good. I was really pleased. It was exactly what we wanted. If I had another flooring project I would definitely contact him.

The workers were punctual and very professional. We were VERY pleased with the finished product (with both the carpet and back when we had them install hardwood floors). They agreed to work around our extremely heavy pool table as well, which we tipped them for afterwards. We have used them twice so far and will continue to do so for any flooring projects in the future.
Description of Work: We had a top grade carpet installation done in our finished basement. We had also used this company a few years ago for hardwood installation in a few of our bedrooms.
