The first meeting brought back 90% of what we wanted. It was a simple design going off exactly what my wife had described. The estimate came in at 16K We went down one grade of kitchen to the middle grade cabinet, removed an entire set of cabinets we were setting up as a pantry, removed a coat cabinet from the adjacent dining room, removed a pantry unit from the main kitchen. I added an angled top and bottom cabinet, and replaced the single pantry unit with a standard upper and lower cabinet. This was supposed to bring us to 13K - staying as close to my 10K budget as possible. On a side note, my one concern was NOT getting particleboard cabinets. This was expressly described to the sales rep. She assured me I was getting "Furniture Grade" cabinets - her words, not mine. The sales rep came back telling us of a calculation error in the solid surface countertop bringing us back up to 16K. We signed the contract - bad on us - and the rep ordered the cabinet. After reviewing the order again, the calculations just didn't add up. Given what I removed and replaced and the miss calculation in the solid surface cabinet couldn't add to an addtional 3K. The rep assured me it did, and said I would pay a significant penalty as the kitchen had been ordered - again my bad for waiting 4days - so I eliminated 3K installation bringing it down to 13K again. We got the cabinets. My one custom cabinet was built upside down. The sink base was recieved as a front component - no custom cabinet and needed to be custom built. 9 out of 14 doors have a manufacturing defect. One was dammaged all together. They told my my solid surface counter was backordered until January - 3 mos away. I asked what happened to 6 wks from the purchase date - no response. I asked to cancel the countertop - they found a piece of my counter within a day. I got the cabinets - all particle board. (Again my bad for not reading the fine print and believing what the sales rep said - Furniture Grade.) (I have done my own kitchens and purchased from Lowes and Sunco - both plywood both less money than what I paid. ) I called and they told me I had to build a sink base - I wasn't sent any specs until I asked. They told me to cut off the bottom of the upside down cabinet and turn it over. I told them I wanted someone to come and build a sink cabinet as that is what I paid for, and fix the upside down cabinet as I didn't want to mess it up. Finally the angled corner cabinet upper, lower and countertop are all three different angles. They told me they would come and fix the upside down cabinet -as it "happens all the time" but would charge me $375 for them build a sink cabinet. I had to agree as I needed to have all the cabinet bases in for the counter or else it would be postponed. To be fair, the sales rep is VERY nice, however she has been slow to return email when bad news is the case, apologizing for being sick, car trouble and days off (all different email responses) I finally heard from the owner who came to my house after I installed the cabinets and the countertop was in. He is very nice as well and promised to make it right. At this point, I hadn't asked for money back, all I wanted was customer service. He offered to have the installer come and re hang the upper cabinets and install the upper and lower trim. He also had him install inserts at the ends of the cabinets (these came with my cabinets from Lowes and Sunco) which had to be custom painted by the guy who was going to fix the defects in the doors. The installer was great and did a fine job on lowering the cabinet and installing the trim. The guy who came to fix the defects said it wasn't going to help, but painted the doors, and also painted the end cabinets - the paint crackled. The defects can still be seen. The broken door was replaced. Wood Palace - per their website - has many successes. I judge a company as to how it responds when there are problems. Should I have paid an extra $400 for a sink base to be installed. Should I have to live with three separate angles on an angled corner, should I have to live with doors that CLEARLY had mitre defects. Yes they tried to fix them, but it didn't work. The quality of a mid line cabinet is particle board. I seriously could have done better at Lowes or Home Depot. I expected custom to be custom. I am not saying you shouldn't give them a shot, but be aware of the problems they had and how they responded.
Description of Work: I contracted with Wood Palace to come and complete a kitchen design, sell and install kitchen cabinets. The original impression from the design meeting with my wife was a budget of $15,000. I corrected that within two days as I mentioned that the price they got in the original meeting included appliances. My budget was 10K plus/minus. They were fine with this change.
