It went superb. The project stuck never veered from a aggressive schedule, and all the contractors were sensitive and easy to work with. And the resulting quality was great, especially given the speed with which it was performed.
Description of Work: Pegasus performed a total gut renovation of a bathroom in the house, the only bathroom. They were hugely sensitive to our needs to execute the project quickly, and had the whole job completed in less than a month. They also provided expert guidance for what was possible and cost effective given the circumstances of our home. Our town has a reputation for having very picky inspectors, and Pegasus pulled all the permits and navigated the inspectors without the slightest hiccup in schedule. It's going on 2 years, and we still love our bathroom.

The design was outstanding. Jane Shafer, the partner at Pegasus responsible for design, spent many hours talking to us about a design that would meet the needs of my 84 year old father. She did a creative job with a difficult lot situation with a house that was only accessible by stairs. She listened carefully to all of our concerns. She finalized a design that was handicapped accessilbe and fit beautifully into our lot plan. The design for the new addition is bright and elegant. We have one unit on the ground floor consisting of a bedroom and sitting area. There is a small elevator for access to the second floor which has shared space of a family room and library. I highly recommend her skills as a designer. She is that rare combination of someone who listens carefully to the needs of the customer and is able to meet those needs in a beautiful design. I highly recommend her. I have also been impressed with the speed of the addition. The company has been working on the addition very hard to make sure it is ready in time for my father.
Description of Work: They designed an addition which would a handicapped accessible unit for a parent. They are working on construction.

They were proffesional and fair. It was unfortunate that the windows were too small which they found out for me. And I couldn't install them. I got the windows from home depot because they were on sale before I had found Pegasus. I really wanted them to do the work for me. As soon as I can afford them I will have them try to do other works for me. I would recommend them to friends and family. I had to return the windows back to HD. And the reason I didn't call them back was because I couldnt afford the work out of pocket. I went with another company (not on angies list) that I used before that offered a nice installment plan. I don't remember that they had an installment plan available, with reasonable rates. (8%) That's all I think they are missing.
Description of Work: They came over took measurements of my windows and the windows I have. And gave me the estimate

We met with three different firms, explained our challenges and talked about our wish list for the space. While all three quotes were in the same ballpark, the Pegasus design was actually the lowest. The reason we chose Pegasus had less to do with the pricing (although important), and everything to do with the owner. Geoff took the time to walk through the space, and listen to our vision for the space. The initial design was spot on. Geoff came back quickly to gather measurements so that a solid estimate could be provided. After a walk through with his team and sub-contractors, the proposal followed and was as expected. Geoff returned to walk us through the contract, making sure we understood their policies with regard to change orders and the payment schedule. Work was to begin in 8 weeks, last 6-8 weeks, and they warranty their work for a year. In the meantime, Geoff provided us with a list of preferred vendors so that we could begin the process of choosing appliances, finishes, tile, stone, etc. I should mention that there was no pressure to use these vendors, they were just recommended. I had the time to comparison shop, and quickly realized that the "Pegasus" discount saved us thousands. The appliances alone came in $4,500 lower then the next lowest store. Also of note, the preferred vendors were as easy to work with as the Pegasus team. All of them were friendly, low pressure and clearly placed a premium on customer service. When we had an issue with a chandelier, Mike (see below) worked directly with the supplier to get a replacement that arrived within a week. Work began on schedule and proceeded as scheduled, substantially finishing the work within the eight weeks as promised, despite a few changes on our end. Mike Bodek, the Production Manager, was an absolute joy - communicating with us daily, telling us what work was scheduled, who would be at the house, what time they would be at the house, and responding to any questions or concerns we may have had, any day, any time, and going out of his way to ensure that the process was as stress free as possible. Dealing with Mike, you would never had known he was managing multiple jobs; when he was talking to you, it seemed as though you were always his top priority. Also part of the dream team was Duane, our carpenter, assisted occasionally by Jesse. Duane was another delight to work with - always pleasant, even keeled, and undaunted by anything we threw his way, with exceptional skills. Jesse was also very easy to work with, doing whatever it took to make the client happy. The same can also be said of their flooring, painting and tile crews. Top notch work all around. Their plumbing and electricians also did whatever it took to make sure the jobs were completed to our satisfaction. Changes to scope (added insulation, carrying the paint jobs through to the living room and adjacent hall way, and a "little fireplace renovation") were handled with the same can do attitude, with pricing changes provided up front, so that the change order could be approved with no surprises. Even with all the extra work, the final price was still below the other two companies interviewed. I cannot say enough about Pegasus. Very professional, extremely reasonable pricing, and I've never worked with a company that strives to provide not only excellent customer service, but an extraordinary customer experience. If I could give them a higher grade than A+, I would. We'll be using Pegasus again to remodel our lower level family room and adding a bathroom.
Description of Work: Our project entailed a complete remodel of our original kitchen. The kitchen was gutted to the studs, ceiling and floor removed, and two walls were removed to allow us to open the kitchen into the dining room, and to expand into an under utilized sun room. We also had all of our popcorn ceilings replastered, and extended our hardwood flooring into the kitchen.

After visiting and seeing our existing kitchen, they prepared two drafts of a kitchen redesign plan, with options, based on our input and requests. They were extremely responsive and professional in presenting a plan that we would use as a starting point if we decide to proceed with a kitchen renovation. We did not proceed with the project for our own budget decisions. This work was part of a discount package for such a design from Angie's List.

Beyond the design, no further work was requested or done.
Description of Work: I had a nice visit with their designer and a few weeks later she emailed me a very satisfactory design -- 2 versions. My finances, however, precluded making any commitment. Still the case. She gave me some good ideas, and I felt it was well worth the $75.00 investment. I will certainly ask them for a quote when I decide to proceed.

Geoff was very pleasant and accessible. He is extremely responsive and honest about the work being done, the terms of the agreement, timeframe, conveying any glitches, and proposing solutions. Mike, the project manager, is great in every way--available 24/7 and eager to help. I found the workers to be reliable, hard working, efficient, and clean. Though I had to do without a kitchen for a few weeks, the pace of the work made it go by quickly and was done while keeping the remainder of the house clean. I recommend Pegasus highly and would be happy to provide any additional information needed.
Description of Work: My old kitchen was completely gutted, reframed, and redone. We initially thought we could keep the existing roof, but when significant structural problems were evident, the entire structure needed to be redone. This major change in the project was handled efficiently and resulted in a much better outcome. In the end, my ceilings are now 9+ feet high from 7- feet. The result was a beautiful finish. We love the kitchen. I have worked with several contractors and rate Pegasus the best in quality, reliability, and craftsmanship.

In the end, we decided to use Jane's design but not Pegasus' building services. At about the point where we were going to hire Pegasus, one of the contractors we contacted much earlier in the process became available. We decided to use him as he had done work for good friends of us, could do custom cabinetry (Pegasus does not) and his price was about $6,000 below Pegasus.
Description of Work: We found Pegasus through Angie's List and liked the idea of a Design/Build company. The husband and wife team of Geoff and Jane Shafer divide the responsibilities, with Jane handling the design side and Geoff the building. Jane came to our house in the fall and presented us with a number of possible designs. She was a delight to work with, creative and very responsive. Once we were close to settling on a design, my husband and I met with Jane and Geoff at this business location in Melrose where we finalized the design for an small family room addition to our home. Using Jane's designs, we sought bids from Geoff as well as several other contractors. This process took several months because we began the process in the Thanksgiving/Christmas season, and a number of contractors never returned our calls or didn't submit bids. Geoff, on the other hand, was thoroughly professional throughout this protracted period.

Our project was a complete gutting and remodelling of our kitchen and one bathroom, converting an existing bedroom into two bathrooms, and upgrading the entire house's electrical system. We got proposals from three companies and selected Pegasus because their proposal was the most detailed, the price was very competitive, and we felt comfortable with Geoff. We had to fit the remodeled kitchen into the existing footprint, which imposed some "interesting" constraints on the design. Jane came up with a wonderful design which we love. Schedule: Pegasus kept very close to the original schedule for the planned work, which was great, and they constantly kept us updated on schedule changes. Resolviing the punchlist ended up taking more time than we expected, but it didn't affect the livability of our house at all. Change orders: Pegasus was extremely accomodating about change orders and priced them fairly. Workmanship and workers: In general the workmanship was very good, with a few exceptions noted below. Mike was a pleasure to work with, very professional, organized, and competant. The other workers were also great, their work was high quality and needed a minimal amount redone. Work seemed well organized and the house was left in a livable condition every night. Communications: Overall communication was good; occasionally there were issues with miscommunication or lapses in communication, but these were always easily resolved to our satisfaction. The good and the bad: Pegasus acheived the most important things to us - on time and on budget. They are honest and great to work with, and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Along the way a few things could have been done better (the laundry closet doors didn't open widely enough), some work was performed in an order that led to re-work for fix small problems, and we might haved slightly moved some things had we been consulted before they were installed. Our biggest issue was with our kitchen floor. Some combination of our materials choice, quality of installation, and preparation of the subfloor, left us unhappy with the floor. Due to some unusual circumstances, even though Pegasus offered to do so, we decided not to redo the floor. Nevertheless, Pegasus resolved the situation to our satisfaction. Pegasus' great plus is that they wanted us to be happy and they willing to change stuff until we loved it.
Description of Work: Completely demolish and remodel kitchen and existing bathroom, turn a bedroom into two bathrooms, upgrade entire electrical system.

Overall it went very well. Pegasus had put an addition on our house a few years ago so we knew they were reliable and did quality work so we decided to go with them again. It was a very positive experience. All of the employees are very professional with amazing responsiveness and follow up. We didn't have any major problems with any of the subcontracters either. More importantly when problems did come up regardless of whose fault it was they were very open about letting us know what was going on and how it could be handled and very willing to do what they could to make sure we were satisfied with the job. It's great to have the designer be part of the team so we could make modifications easily and know how it would affect the scope of the project and know everyone was on the same page. Mike our project manager was very good about keeping us up to date on how everything was going on a daily basis and they also had a cool online scheduling program that we could reference to see when everything was scheduled to happen. We absolutely love the new kitchen, it is everything we hoped for and more.
Description of Work: We did a complete kitchen remodel which included gutting our old kitchen including knocking down a number of walls, installing new wood flooring, installing cabinets and a new peninsula with granite countertops, rearranging and installing plumbing and electrical systems and painting. They also ended up sanding the wood floors for the rest of the downstairs and doing additional painting.

Overall my experience was extremely positive. The owner of Pegasus, the project manager and the people who did the installation were all excellent. There were some small mistakes through the project. When I expressed my concern or disappointment with any part of the work, they were responsive and fixed the problems. The project manager went to bat for me with the company in installed the granite with a crack in it. He also always responded to my phone calls or text messages immediately. I was very pleased with their service and I would use them again on another project.
Description of Work: Kitchen Renovation: They first did demolition of my old kitchen. That included removing all old cabinets, countertop, sink and flooring. Appliances were disconnected, which included, a stove, a dishwasher, a fridge and a washer and dryer. Wood flooring was installed, sanded and finished. One new window was installed. New cabinets were installed. This included upper wall cabinets and lower cabinets with pull out drawers and two lazy susan cabinets, as well as a pull out spice rack. It also included a cupboard cabinet with pull out drawers as well as drawers for utensils, etc. They installed a Farmers sink as well. The sink and the fridge required plumbing connections. The fridge was new and was bought for less money than I would have spent. Pegasus got the refrigerator, the sink and the faucet through an appliance company they do business with. Pegasus also installed handles and pulls on the cabinets. In addition there was a small separate counter for eating installed in a corner, which Pegasus installed a leg for. So there was some additional carpentry done as well. The walls were painted. Some old appliances were reinstalled and some new ones.

This is the second project that we have done with Pegasus. Geoff and Jane help design the project and then oversee the construction. They are both easy to work with, and they really do have the client's interest at heart and work hard to make the clients happy. We would recommend them for any home repair or rennovation project. This project consisted of the complete remodeling of our two bathrooms at the same time - and considering they were the only two bathrooms in the house, it was quite an experience. But Geoff and his crew did a fine job of making sure we had facilities to use every night, and of easing the pain as much as possible. The project was fairly involved, as it involved rearranging the design of the current bathrooms and moving walls and duct work to accomodate the new design. All work was performed at an extremely high level, including some very difficult plumbing work and unusual tiling designs. There was great attention to detail, and there was wonderful communication regarding the flow of the project, status updates, and the choices that had to be made at each step. Pegasus made every effor to accomodate everything we asked for. Of particular note is the project manager Mike, who was knowledgeable and attentive to every detail of the project to ensure that we were satisfied with every little thing, from something as big as the location of the toilet to something as small as the color of the door hinges. Mike was immediately responsive to phone calls or emails, even late at night or on weekends, and worked with us on every aspect of the project - he deserves the highest praise. In addition, all follow-up and punch list items were taken care of without delay. Pegasus is always willing to work with the client to achieve a satisfactory result. We ended up with two fabulous bathrooms thanks to their work.
Description of Work: Complete design and remodeling of two bathrooms, including demolition of old bathrooms, framing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, insulation, carpentry, tile work, and painting. Also performed replacement of doors in other rooms and painting of hallways and living room.

In general the project worked--however--there were significant: Communication glitches Pricing inaccuracies for change orders Changes in products installed w/o prior approval/communications Damage to existing bathroom wall-paper which needed replacement due to subcontractor error Electrician installed interior light bulbs in the exterior sensor lights--which formed ice in winter due to not being properly designed for outdoor usage--we also had consistent fuse blow-outs until new fuses were installed months after the initial installation Project management issues--workers did not always show up as scheduled Radiant heat was installed by the plumber--and existing heat to one of our other rooms stopped working due to diversion of the water flow to the new room. Again--the company maintained that their subcontractor is not responsible. For the first time in 16 years--we had water leakage in the remodeled room. We asked Pegasus to come out and review the damage. Even with a 10+ year warranty on all work completed including roofing work--Pegasus maintained that their sub-contractors were not responsible for the roof leakage. We will be spending an additional $3,000 to redo the roof this Summer On the plus side, the downstairs bathroom upgrade went very well and the library's insulation keeps the room several degrees warmer than the rest of our house. In addition, Duane is extremely easy to work with, very experienced and offered expert consultation on how to improve our plans. His carpenter and craftsmanship skills are first rate. Mike was extremely professional, easy to deal with and worked his butt off--but as the project manager--was tasked with "herding cats" in working with sub-contractors who behave as if their sh$@ doesn't stink. While Pegasus strives to provide high quality services at reasonable prices, working with them is not for the faint of heart.
Description of Work: We hired Pegasus to turn our 3 season sun-room into an extension of our living-room (library) with french-style bi-fold doors, an entrance to the kitchen and exterior doors [one for humans / one for pets] leading out to a raised cement patio inside a fenced in yard. We also requested remodeling of our basement bathroom.

The discussion with Geoff was very comfortable and I felt that he was very honest. When I mentioned that we had already signed a design agreement with another kitchen/bath design/build company, we discussed the pros and cons of this situation, and he suggested that we might want to continue working with the other designer/builder before we consider working and paying for two simultaneous design efforts. In a follow-up email, Geoff stated that he was not interested in the project due to the travel time between his office and our house.
Description of Work: I spoke with Geoff on the phone and made an appointment to have him come to our house. We discussed some thoughts on remodeling and possibly expanding our kitchen in general terms in an attempt to get a feel for how he works together with his wife.

My experience with Jane was fabulous from start to finish. She contacted me promptly to set up a time to come out to the house, came on time, and had great suggestions for the project. With a pretty short turnaround, she worked up two conceptual plans and a floor plan that allow us to clearly visualize what the final project would look like and that will help us make more detailed choices in the future. Jane was knowledgeable and creative, helping me to understand what was and wasn't possible, and the variety of options that would work best for our kitchen and potential new bathroom. We haven't yet decided how and when we're going to proceed, but based on Jane's work so far, we would definitely consider using Pegasus for the design and build work, and would definitely recommend them for design and consult work.

We didn't end up going with them. We went with someone who was a lot more expensive for the design because the designer wasn't a kitchen designer, which was a little bit of an issue with me. I wanted a professional kitchen designer. She did work on a computer, which was her expertise, and not in the architectural realm. They had quoted us a price and we actually said that we would go forward but when we read the contract there were a couple of slight discrepancies but they were handled very professionally by them but enough that we decided not to go with them. After they had left I found an Angie's List coupon for $75 for a kitchen remodel design and they never mentioned that would be coming which I thought was a little bit cheesy on their part. They also didn?t seem to have a lot of things for me to look at in terms of completed projects. They also didn?t have the realm of references for the type of project I was looking for online.

Response from Pegasus Design-To-Build LLC
Pegasus Design-To-Build understands that choosing a designer and contractor can be a difficult decision, especially given the complexity of your project. Our intention, when we met with you was to understand the scope of your project, and we quickly realized it far exceeded the Angie’s Kitchen Coupon as it involved the redesign of almost your entire first floor (1600 + sq. feet) to include your kitchen, family room, porch, dining room, den, three entrances and new access to a deck, with the potential of completely reworking the access to your unfinished great room, and a bathroom and mudroom/laundry area. The Kitchen Coupon included one kitchen design. Our estimate for your design was under $2,000 and would have provided you with a minimum of three complex redesign options through to the permitting stage for all of the rooms involved and fully utilized our design strengths, training and experience which are considerably broader than a kitchen redesign. If you chose to use Pegasus for the remodeling phase, you would have realized a % return on the design cost. As we discussed, this was a considerably better option for you than the coupon - our sincere apologies if we in any way did not make this clear. We wish you every success with your project and hope you will consider us for your future design and/or remodeling needs.

The estimate was high but the quality of work that they would have done seemed like they knew what they were doing. We went with someone else. The gentleman who came out was very professional and we told him what we wanted to do. Everything was fine but we just decided to go with someone else.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Pegasus Design-To-Build LLC to renovate my master bath.

They began work just after Thanksgiving and they were able to complete it just before Christmas. At the start they had a very efficient crew for the demolition and completed it in a day. Their cleanup was also very effective at the start of the project. Each of the contractors were punctual and did their work well. When the tile guy made a few slip-ups with the tiles, my wife reported it. He came back and took it up and re-tiled it to our satisfaction. There is a one year warranty, so any issue we have had they have come back to fix it. Finally, we had an issue with the cost of a couple of aspects of the job (some miscommunication with the painting and such) and Geoff Shafer was very easy to work with and ended up waiving a significant part of that cost. The only issue we had at all related to the cleanup at the end of the project. It dragged on a bit and the cleanup was less than stellar toward the end of the job. On the whole, however, we were pleased with the work. The quality and craftsmanship is outstanding. The room looks great and is everything our family needs. We are happy with the bathroom and we would recommend them and would happily use Pegasus again in the future.
Description of Work: Pegasus worked closely with my wife and myself in designing a new bathroom. They were flexible both in figuring out the best design for the bathroom, as well as in their willingness to satisfy our particular requests. I required a deeper tub and our new toddler needed a tub and room in which to move about. They took out the steps to our attic to create more space. They closed in a small hallway to maximize the space available for the bathroom. They took it down to the studs and started afresh: new drywall, new toilet, new wainscoating, new shower and bath, new lighting and plumbing, new everything.

We are very happy with the finished room and everything looks fantastic. Thank you to everyone at Pegasus for working on such a tight timeframe to get the bathroom completed in a limited amount of time. It was a tough winter with all the snow and limited parking and everyone at Pegasus was being flexible and worked extra hard. Everyone was extremely professional and courteous and we will continue to recommend Pegasus to friends and family.
Description of Work: Pegasus worked with us to create a new upstairs bathroom. The old bathroom had a stand up shower stall and was small in size so Pegasus helped us and gutted the bathroom, put in a new tub, sink, vanity, and toilet and expanded the room slightly to create a larger space. We are very happy with the finished product.
