I wouldn't recommend working with MasonWorks. Junior, their salesperson, is unprofessional and couldn't clearly communicate how their scheduling process works. Not only did it take weeks for them to just get to the property to provide me with a quote but - after confirming they'd get me on the schedule - I called back to learn that never happened (OOPS!). In fact, despite waiting a month, it could now be 4-6 weeks to get in the job, and it now could be too cold to do it at all. This is, again, after confirming the job would be scheduled in mid-to-late November. If they are this unreliable and unprofessional with their scheduling, how would they be doing the job and delivering quality results??? Avoid MasonWorks, save yourself the headache of getting yanked around by a company that can't deliver on what they promise.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Some people wait to the very end of the season to call as if it is an emergency that we have to respond right away. Life is planned and we can’t plan for anyone but for ourselves. Our quotes goes out the same day or the day after, safeguarding sometimes we have a personal problem, which is rather rare, or we misspell the email address. This review is, by a further stretch, a lie.

Masonworks does excellent work. They did a large project for us throughout this summer, and we are happy & appreciative for everything they did. This includes: - New patio - New deck - Removal of 30+ tree stumps - Spreading loam + leveling the ground - Seeding grass - Installing drainage + a retaining wall near our basement I would use them again and have already recommended them to several friends and family members. Jeff and his team operate with high integrity and great craftsmanship. I strongly recommend Masonworks.

Excellent workmanship and very neat. They installed a granite front steps and front walkway. They were a bit delayed because of the wet spring in starting but it was most definitely worth the wait. I have received numerous compliments from my neighbors These guys are the real deal. I recommend them unequivocally. This is the second major job they did for me in 2 years.

Did a great job redoing the steps. Construction blends well with existing steps and seems very solid. Did a great job prepping the site and spacing everything out so even unlike prior steps. Very happy with finished product. A bit behind starting due to all the rain, but worked quickly and hard (12 hour days and on Sat) to get things done quickly.

I received a written quote from Jeff@masonworks to install a new concrete floor in an existing 12 x 18 detached garage. I made it clear in my request for quote that the existing 'floor' is loose gravel/stones. The quote described the work to be done at a cost of $3,940, which was nearly twice that of other quotes I'd received for the same work. On closer review, the quote provided for demolition and disposal of existing concrete floor, which is incorrect; there is no concrete floor, so I contacted Jeff to inform him of the error, and requested a revised estimate assuming it would reflect a lower cost given the floor is loose stones which can be reused as base material for the concrete, but Jeff replied that there would be no difference, that "it really doesn't matter for us. Removing or not removing a concrete one [floor][won't] change it. The crew have to stay there for the same time." Sorry, but I strongly disagree. Swinging a sledge hammer and having to raze, remove and dispose of a concrete floor is far more laborious and time consuming than not having to deal with it at all, and should have resulted in a lower cost estimate for the project. I appreciate that Jeff took the time to render a written quote, and I can't comment on the quality of his work, but his pricing is not commensurate with others for the same work because his quote didn't accurately reflect the scope of work required for my project.

I really don’t want to make a comment on this review. It should have never been posted or allowed to be posted. My cost is my cost. I don’t have to apologize for my cost. We deliver high-quality products. There’s no reason for somebody to be giving a bad review on a quote. I wish him luck.

The project went very well. Timing and budget were met. More importantly, I had a curvy design (drawn on graph paper) and a new material in mind (recycled rubber pavers, now offered by Azek). Unlike many of the contractors I spoke with, Jeff from MasonWorks was willing to work with my design and this unfamiliar material that involved laying plastic grids over the compacted base and then installing the pavers. The pavers themselves could be cut with a woodworking tools. I wanted a dogwood blossom design on the entry and main patios which required a lot of diagonal cuts. I didn't want to pay for the extra labor to make that happen, so MasonWorks team laid the pavers in a random pattern and gave me a few days before applying the sand to lock in when I was able to cut and rearrange the pavers to make my design. I am so thrilled with the result. I had wanted a deck, but the raised terrace was a great solution that didn't conflict with zoning. The work was done in 2011 and, 8 years later, it is holding up really well, even though I did dig out the base material pretty close to the edge of the pavers to allow for more planting. The first photo is from 2018. The others are from 3-5 years ago.

The pace set was rapid. There were a number of annoyances. I was promised a week on the phone to empty the storage area under the porch. I only got a day. Questions about the extent were often answered with "Is it in the contract?" The workmen asked to borrow my tools. When I complained, I was told it was a normal thing to do. Communication was difficult as the foreman was often offsite and many of the workmen only spoke Portuguese. When the main work was completed, I learned about it when the main office called to ask if everything was finished. As my rain gutter still lay in my front yard, I answered no but was required to email pictures before they put it back up. The railing was not painted, but as that detail was "not in the contract," I hired a painter to complete. The painter discovered unfilled holes around the top of the pillar and a number of other minor unfinished details. After the go round with the gutters, I decided to have the painter complete them. After several rains, it was clear the concrete stoop was tilted to drain into the storage area. This time I emailed Masonworks and, after a go around, they said they'd come around. I never heard from them again on that issue. I've temporarily put up sand bags to keep the driveway from draining onto the stoop. Roughly a year later, a contractor for a room renovation noticed one of the pillars bowed in the process of structural failure. At my request, the second contractor shored it up and brought in a structural engineer to evaluate. All three pillars were undersized (4x4 vice 4x6). The overhanging garret above would have eventually fallen onto my front yard. Decision time for me. I decided that I did not want a contractor who could make such a mistake to repair it. I considered but decided against legal action. So I gave the second contractor the work at a cost of about $10,000. That was the end of it as far as I was concerned. However, frequent requests for a review began appearing in my email. So I emailed Masonworks, described the situation, how I resolved it, and asked him to do what he considered the "right thing" by his honor. His first response was that I should call in two weeks when his vacation ended. In a few more emails, I attempted to resolve assumptions he made about what I expected. I repeated that the "right thing" was up to him. I failed. His last "right thing" was to blame me for the structural failure. As far as I am concerned the issue is closed. I cannot recommend Masonworks again.

We built this porch in 2017. We never heard a single complaint from the owner. I must say that the porch was built under a permit and was inspected by the Building Inspector. If anything happened the owner should have called me and we would have fixed it. Instead he emailed me telling me that in 2018 he spent $9,980.00 “repairing” the porch. No proof of any damages was sent to me. Masonworks had no warning or a chance to amend any issues, if there was any. I find it strange that after two years this client comes up with this lengthy complaint which I never was never made aware before. He was delighted with the work and even recommended Masonworks to one of his neighbors. I must say that it is absolutely impossible that both me, my foreman that has 20 years field experience and the Building Inspector to have failed or missed anything that could result in such of an expensive “repair”. In regards of his ever lasting list of minor cries all I can say is that we owe plenty of tools and we don’t need to borrow anything from him or anyone. It’s our policy not to borrow tools. How can he remember these mundane details after two years? Maybe it is just a creation of his mind such as the “repair”. Masonworks would never fail to respond to any complaints should we be made aware of them. I can’t do anything if I don’t know about it. This is the case here. I wasn’t told and the client provided no evidence of anything but emailed me after 2 years demanding $10,00.00. Kind of strange situation to say the list. Cheers

Very well. We weren't sure who to even use at first but glad we went with Masonworks, The stairs look great. They work easy to work with, very professional. The workers worked very hard and when we had an issue where the landing area couldn't handle granite, they had a carpenter come in to finish who I would also recommend. I am going to redo my patio at some point and would definitely use them again.

Great experience. One of the best contractors I've ever worked with. Awful. There was a miscommunication in forwarding the invoice for payment which I did not know and today one of the employees called me and said Jeff would take legal action. I simply forwarded the situation to Jeff and his response was to tell me to "breathe lady" and that they will not stop calling, emailing and texting me until the check is received. It is 14 days since the job was complete and they OFFERED to send a last invoice after RECEIVING a $900 deposit. They have corresponded with me 9 times TODAY so far!!!!!! So unprofessional and unnecessary I told them first call today the check would be mailed immediately and they won't stop calling, emailing and texting. Will never used them again or recommend them.

Top notch skills of masonry. Very professional and friendly. We hired Jeff in early 2017 to do a front wall, back patio, and landscaping on a backyard. His team did a very nice job, helping us plan the whole project out and recommending stone for each step. We have been very happy with the quality of the work, and all of Jeff's recommendations on the look were spot on -- it looks great. We had some side projects Bruno did that took a while to get right, but at the end of it all Jeff stood by the work and I was happy to have worked with him. The quality of the work is what stood out and that is what you are paying for in stone work, and its clear Jeff knows how to deliver a good quality product.

I've worked with several landscaping/hardscaping companies over the years and Masonworks are THE BEST, by far. Very professional, reasonable price, and outstanding quality of work. They did a big job for us this summer - installed a paver driveway, paver patio, paver walkways, bluestone patio, drainage system, sod, and irrigation. The pavers (Cambridge Kingscourt) look great - perfect layout/patterns, great attention to detail in the cuts, graded perfectly. Bluestone patio looks great too. They also do a great job with the stuff you don't see, like the excavating, soil compacting, cementing, etc so everything should look great for years to come. I've received a lot of compliments from the neighbors! I highly recommend Masonworks.

We are extremely happy with the work that Masonworks did on our front steps. We had the steps redone 10 years ago and the original masons did not do a good job. The steps were deteriorating badly. Jeff came over and recommended an excellent solution to add slate to the sides while retaining the existing granite and adding an additional granite slab to the top. This saved us a lot of money. We got all new slate layered in horizontally to the sides and on the risers. The steps look fantastic and we have already had a neighbor come over complimenting us on the steps and asking who did the work for a possible project at his home. They met with me during the initial review of the work, and I communicated with them during the estimate. On the morning they arrived the foreman went over exactly what they would be doing and how long the process should take. There were no surprises. The crew on the job were professional, careful and friendly. They even took time to move a small plant that would have gotten trampled. They work very hard, did great work and completely cleaned up the site afterwards. The entire process took 3 days - 1 day for demolition and setting up the area for the foundation. 1 day for the building inspector to review the site and give the OK to continue, and 1 day to build the steps. I highly recommend Masonworks and would definitely use them on any future project.

I met with Junior for an estimate. We talked about the deck and that I wanted a pressure treated deck, because it was what I could afford. We also talked about how I thought it was great how they came to Marlborough from Melrose. Apparently Junior lives in Marlboro, so its not that big of a deal for them. I said great. Well, I got the quote, and it it was $4800 for a 3 step porch with a 4' wide landing and steps. I thought this is double what I heard from everyone else. I looked further and it was for composite not pressure treated. I sent an email to Junior Wednesday morning and never heard back. Finally I called Junior Sunday morning, and was told that Jeff had decided he wont send anyone to Marlboro for a pressure treated deck You can probably see my issue with this. Pressure treated is half the cost, and I was told it was ok, but then the rug was pulled out from under me after I spent time meeting them and then waiting for a response. If I was told right away that they thought about it, but decided its too far. I would have have been aggravated, but probably would not have left a negative review. It takes a lot for me to give someone a negative review, but to leave me hanging after I sent an email to them asking for an explanation of the composite for almost five days is a further waste of my time, and I know they got the email.

Client asked for a quote on composite deck (actually a set of steps with a platform). Once he saw the price he asked for another quote on pressure treated and Junior told him that we didn’t work with pressure treated. We had several issues on the past using pressure treated where clients were not happy with the final product. We them decided not to work with it any longer. We perform high quality work and we will not lower our finish quality to make one person momentarily happy, which will then come back here to say how unhappy he would be with the finish quality of pressure treated. We have the right to refuse a job if we see that either the end product isn’t to our quality standards or if the job isn’t worth doing it for any other reasons.

The crew was fantastic. Accommodated any needs we had. Beyond polite. Hardworking. Put in a 12 hour day to get the job done. Couldn’t ask for better work. The price was right too. They beat two other contractors who came in super high and also recommended unnecessary work.
Description of Work: Repaired to sets of stairs. Front stairs, removed damaged concrete slabs (4) and replaced with beautiful blue stone. Re-pointed brick base. Secured one railing that was salvageable. Back stairs, all brick, in total disrepair. Repaired to perfection! Also repainted foundation.
