Sergio's Renovations

I hired Sergio based on the great ratings he'd received from other AL members. After having a bad experience with another contractor during a kitchen renovation, I was cautious going through this process again-- but I could tell quite quickly that Sergio was as committed as I was to making my bathroom look great. Sergio's guys started promptly at 7:30am the day we were scheduled to start. We have old plaster walls and they did a great job containing as much dust as possible. Given that we live in a very old building with old pipes, there was a little problem during the demo (leak) but Sergio's guys (and Sergio himself) went above and beyond to contain the problem and ensure that everything was ok. As we have only one bathroom, Sergio made sure that we always had a functioning toilet which was obviously very helpful. Once work started, I never had a problem with workers not showing up. Sergio was great at making sure I was informed of what was going on and he always returned my calls within 5 mins. As for the work itself, I was beyond happy with the results. Sergio understood exactly what I wanted and his workers executed the plan perfectly. There were a couple times when I changed my mind (e.g. building out a wall next to the sink so that we could build an arch over the shower--- see pics) and they made my changes within a day. Sergio is all about customer satisfaction and this is why he's one of the best in the area: How many contractors will answer a phone call on a Sunday afternoon (during a Patriots game)?? As for what we did: after gutting the bathroom, we put in marble floors and marble in the shower. Installed recessed lighting in the ceiling and two pendant lights over the sink. Custom cabinets and vanity. New electrical and plumbing, including new ceiling fan. New toilet was installed and our old tub was refinished. I should give a special shout out to Sergio's carpenter who did an incredible job translating a sketch I did into the crown moulding/wainscotting/chair rail. He did a great job maximizing the available space and creating it in the style of Old Beacon Hill woodwork (see pictures). Another shout out goes to the painter who clearly takes great care in what he does. We plan on painting the rest of our place in January and feel very secure having him do the work. Overall, a great experience. I highly recommend Sergio's Renovations for any bathroom (or Kitchen) remodeling. As I mentioned above, we've already hired him to repaint the rest of the condo, install some moulding in the bedroom and fix some things in the kitchen that the last contractor screwed up!

Sergio was prompt & professional, and had a very calm & confident attitude. Unfortunately he could not schedule the job within the time frame we were looking for. He did recommend another contractor however, which we really appreciated.

I needed to update my bathroom without spending a bunch of money to do a complete renovation as I am planning on renting the unit in a few months. So Sergio seemed to be the only contractor who understood and gave me a very reasonable quote. I followed up with him about our appointment which was 3 weeks later due to my schedule and his - he didn't have it on his schedule, but still came on the day that we talked about. The quote was without materials, but the materials didn't cost more than $300. I bought the sink, faucet, grout, tile, and lighting. His crew was prompt, neat, clean, and performed very high quality work. If they found something wrong, then they would go the extra mile to get it right. My bathroom looks great - almost brand new for a very old place.

Estimate was accurate, ordered tile, when tile arrived work began shortly after. Work was done in two days. This was not a difficult job but everything was done well, all aspects handled in a timely and professional manner and the end result is perfect. Sergio is very good to work with.

Fantastic! We used Sergio to remodel our bathroom and that was a great experience. We were delighted that his bid was the lowest because we LOVE working with Sergio and his people--he is a pleasure to do business with and he always goes above and beyond. He visited regularly and when we would walk around inspecting the work not only was Sergio responsive to our requests, but he would point out details that he thought should be tended to. Two sets of neighbors asked for his number because they watched the painters and were very impressed with how careful they were with plants, using drop cloths, cleaning up, etc.

Our estimate with Sergio went great. We felt like he really understood what we wanted stylewise and he was able to tell us what is appropriate for our size/style of house, which to me was helpful. He is a good middle of the road choice for us-we don't want super cheapo work done in our home but given the size of our home, we aren't going to go extravagant either. Sergio seemed a nice balance of the two. He was very detailed in asking us what we wanted and he was also detailed in telling us what was involved and whether it was a big deal or not. We wanted two quotes from him, one if the remodel involved moving a wall and one if we didn't move it. He was accommodating to do both. He was easy to communicate with, I didn't have to do a lot of extra explaining or clarification. It took several days longer to get the estimate over the phone than he promised. But he definitely seems like a contractor that once he starts the work in our house, he will not leave the job half done. After we found out how much our master bath remodel would cost in general (not just from Sergio but from other contractors' estimates as well), we decided to wait on our project for a year or so since we are already spending on other improvements to the house this year. But when the time comes, we will give Sergio a call again.

Sergio's crew is very punctual, competent and above all very, very fast. They installed the windows in one day of work and finished everything in just few days. Sergio is a true professional.

We had read wonderful things about Sergio and his company, but nothing could have prepared us for the truly exceptional work Sergio and his crews did at our house. Our new family room and kids play space is absolutely beautiful, and we are the envy of all of our friends and neighbors. Our experience with Sergio began with an estimate. He arrived at our house about five minutes early - something that proved to be consistent every time we scheduled appointments with him through the process. He provided an estimate on the spot - for labor only - and a materials estimate based upon actual cost of materials. His materials estimate proved to be very accurate and the labor estimate was an exact match to the final bill. My first impression of Sergio - the same as the impression I have today - is that he is very honest, devoted to his work and to his customers. We decided to hire Sergio based upon the large number of positive reports we found on Angie's List - together with my "good feeling" that his workmanship would be top notch. I consider it a good experience when a contractor is attentive to our wishes and does things to make our visions a reality. Based upon my experience with other contractors, this is not always easy to find. With Sergio with found this, and much, much more - he made suggestions to improve our original ideas, found solutions to design problems we were struggling with and overall created a finished product that was better than we could have imagined. I am also really impressed with the way that he got to know us and our tastes - once I explained to him once, for example, how I wanted the staircase to look - he replied, "say no more, I know exactly what you want" - and he was right - the finished product was exactly what we wanted! I can't say enough great things about our experience with Sergio. He has made us customers for life. The next time we begin a remodeling project, the process will be easy. Sergio will be my first call, and my last. Thank you again for a job well done.

Sergio's incredible integrity and the skill of his crew is legendary on Angie's list, as well they should be; his warmth, charm, and can-do attitude, and the craftsmanship and attention to detail of his crew far outweighed the few glitches that arose. Sergio's concern for customer satisfaction makes me reluctant to mention anything less than ideal, but there were some problems in the areas of timing and communication-- in particular a long delay between the initial demolition, which occurred right on schedule, and their return to start the work, and language problems that made it unwieldly to explain to the workers exactly what I wanted. Although Sergio is extremely responsive, he is not often on the job site and runs multiple jobs at once, so a savvy homeowner will be proactive about making sure every detail is nailed down in advance and contacting Sergio with questions. This is not a situation in which you can easily make decisions on the fly, which I was used to from working with contractors who did one job at a time (unusual, I realize). None of this would in any way deter me from working with Sergio again, or from recommending him highly. The workmanship was wonderful, they graciously solved several design challenges with style and aplomb, were always neat and courteous, and he honored his estimate to the penny. (He gave me an estimate within a range, warned me when my additions were pushing it toward the upper limit, and stuck to that limit in his final bill. As mentioned in another report, I did not pay him a penny until the job was finished, which is indeed unusual.) In short, a fabulous experience from an honorable man and an expert crew.

Sergio and his crew do excellent work. I would recommend them without reservation. Price above is labor only; rough parts were around 7K.

Sergio told me that this not what he normally does. He said he normally does bath and kitchen renovations and that is what he does best. He called a friend of his on the cell phone while he was there to check if he is interested in the job.

They did an excellent job. They arrived on time and finished the work in a timely matter. The price that they gave me was reasonable for the work that they did. I would use them again and recommend them to others.

Everything was really just absolutely fabulous. They were amazing in every way. I have flipped houses in the past, and these might be the best people I have ever worked with. I loved absolutely everything about them. It was difficult for them to return phone calls at times because they are so busy, but it was worth every day of the wait. They are so amazingly wonderful, and the workmanship and craftsmanship is outstanding. We have had many projects done, but this is the best by far. They are lovely to deal with, and they came when they said they would come. They added their own creative ideas which really improved on the appearance of the room, for instance, they put in one section of wood diagonally, which really made it look wonderful. This was maybe the best experience I have ever every had with a contractor. They cleaned up nicely, and the place always looked great. We did not pay them until the job was completely finished, which was unusual. We kept asking if we could pay them a portion, but he wanted to wait until he was finished. Then ended up coming in right on estimate with $2,000 in materials, which was actually less than we anticipated. We were expecting to pay $5,000 more than we did, and the project turned out much more beautifully than we ever anticipated. It s just amazing that when we purchased materials, all of the employees at the home renovation stores gushed about Sergio when we told them who we were working with, and assured us we would be thrilled with him, which we were. They bull-nosed everything in granite, and were incredibly thorough. Now we just wish they had done the rest of the work in the house. I can t say enough good about Sergio they are really better than an A I would have rated them much higher if I could. I wouldn't use anybody else.

We are thrilled with the results and professionalism from Sergio and his entire team. The carpenter was fabulous and installed our crown moldings to our wishes. When we changed our mind, they gracious fixed anything we wanted. They were punctual and follow-through with what they said. Sergio also made suggestions and looked out for our best interest. I was nervous since our condo is over 100 years old and that plumbing and electrical upgrades would be a nightmare. Sergio and his team were able to cut through cast iron and give us the kitchen we wanted! They are AWESOME!

In a world of non-reputable contractors Sergio and his team are true diamonds in the rough. There isn't enough room for me to truly express the amount of respect we have for Sergio, but I'll try. Sergio was a joy to work with from day 1 -- charming, hard working, punctual, industrious. We kept waiting for the other shoe to drop as that is just what is supposed to happen with contractors, but it never did. Instead, every hope, expectation, dream we had was met with 110% satisfaction by Sergio and his team. Sergio has a lot going on at all times (new business, other jobs) and was constantly aware of what was going on in our project, both major and minor. His workers are talented, kind, considerate, clean and extremely hard working. We were nervous about having new people in our home, and by the end of our project his team felt like our family. There wasn't enough they could do to help us, make things look perfect or just genuinely be nice people. They were always dressed with their company shirt and always cleaned up after themselves (even after very long days of work). They were not satisfied until they felt, and we felt that something was 100% perfect. Sergio met with us initially and managed our expectations on the renovation process, he made sure we were aware that even with him in charge there are always issues that come up in a renovation. Of course little things came up as they always do, but we were never concerned because we knew Sergio was at the helm. As soon as there was an issue, he was available with a solution and his easy going attitude. We always felt like we were in the best hands possible. We couldn't be happier with our results. Our renovation is top notch, everyone who has seen it so far (including ALL of the town inspectors) marvel at the quality of the workmanship. The price we agreed to with Sergio (by handshake) was the price at the end of the job. We asked Sergio to recommend a handyman to us for when things break (not having to do with his work). He told us that we don't need a handyman - we have a relationship for life and he'll always send over his guys. There is no other contractor I would ever consider working with besides Sergio and his team - we feel lucky to have been able to work with Sergio and are so grateful to him and his team. We truly feel like we are friends for life. Sergio's favorite expression is a Brazilian one, he wants to leave the house with a golden key; he most certainly left our house with one.

They have been good to work with. They are flexible to work around my schedule. Their work is also very neat. They do a very good job of cleaning up. I would highly recommend them.

He is fabulous, and they did a beautiful job. They painted the whole bathroom. He's coming back to replace my cellar stairs and is also going to do some other work for us.

Sergio is one of the busiest, but nicest, most professional and competent guys in a very unpredictable industry. Just to find Sergio was worth the price of membership in Angie's list. But hey, Sergio, I hope that you don't become too busy because you are the only person I will call on in the future to do work for me! Sergio and his team are friendly, professional and reliable. The quality of their work is excellent. He always checks to make sure that everything is ok. This is a guy who keeps his word. And does not charge a penny more than his estimate which is verbal. He even did stuff for me and never charged me. I just wish that I could find a mason like Sergio. Great work Sergio!

He arrived promptly at the scheduled time, was quite personable and professional. He made color suggestions but was responsive when I later asked for a different set of colors. I asked him to do all the work in a particular two week window (when we would be out of town) so there would be less dust for my toddler to breathe and track in and he was able to accommodate this and complete all but the touch up work before we returned.

Before talking with Sergios, I d discussed my wish to install the soundproofed structure described above with many contractors. Virtually all of them suggested that I simply build floor-to-ceiling walls around the opening and build a door into one of them. When I told them that I didn't want to do this because the walls would block the light from a window and shorten the size of a room, they usually told me that what I wanted to achieve could not be done. The conversation with Sergios was quite different. He listened carefully to my thoughts regarding how we might overcome some of the obstacles stated by others screening out some and building on others. When he left shortly after the project launch on the first day, I worried that I would be less impressed with the team he left behind but soon found that there was no reason for concern. They were extraordinarily skilled; the overall design for the structure was clever in the way that it addressed the limitations of the space, and the craftsmanship on important details (which ensured the strength of the structure without sacrificing soundproofing potential) was exceptional. Not only did Sergios team successfully create a structure that makes my home seem much larger than it is (while improving its appearance and adhering to high environmental standards), they were a true pleasure to work with. They were all originally from small towns in Brazil and consistently demonstrated the grace and warmth that I now associate with this background. Working with them was like no other contracting experience that I've had in America, where it seems that so few approach their work with high standards for workmanship, integrity, and relationships. Initially, it was very difficult to get through to him by phone, because he prioritizes any work that he s doing with a current client and calls from current clients (whose numbers have been programmed into his phone). When trying to follow up on an initial conversation, I got so frustrated with his lack of response that I called five other contractors. However, when he did return my call and explained that I d simply not yet been programmed into his phone, I was greatly relieved, since I d been far more impressed with him than with any of the other contractors I d contacted.

Blew off meeting without explanation, phone call or email. Attempting to contact company resulted in "mailbox full" automated message.

This was our best experience as far as home renovations go. The team was very thoughtful and considerate. They cut all the wood outside so as to minimize the sawdust inside the house, covered our existing hardwood with paper and masking tape to minimize the scuff marks and even cleaned up every night (as much as possible) before leaving! We were kept well informed on when to expect the teams and it was overall painless from our side. The job was completed over 5 to 6 business days (faster than I had originally anticipated), exceeded our expectations (leveling the floor and the flooring to the treads was tricky) and stayed within budget (Sergio quoted a fixed price and stuck to it since there were no major surprises). Wonderful experience!

I called Sergio because of glowing reviews on this site. His voice mail box was full, which was a bad sign, so I emailed instead. I received an email back from a secretary stating that the company was too busy, but then Sergio himself called and said that wasn't true, and agreed to come do an estimate for refinishing floors in five rooms and painting in three. He came when he said he would, and did a thorough walk through of the property; the problem is he never bothered to give me an estimate. I called repeatedly, left messages, and emailed when the voice mail was full again. I finally spoke to him Friday morning, and he assured me that he would call that afternoon or Saturday. Needless to say, he never called, and did not respond to a further email from me. I understand if he's too busy to take on more work, as his secretary indicated, but then he should say so. It is neither professionally nor personally acceptable to brush someone off like this.

The most professional contractor ever. Punctual. Delivered what promised. Very easy to deal with. Not cheap, but worth it.
