Sergio's Renovations

I left three voice messages over two weeks. They never called me back. Very unprofessional.

Sergio was fantastic. We needed several jobs completed in a very short timeframe, and with minimal supervision as we were out of state during the time of the repairs. After walking through the job, Sergio provided an estimate for labor, and told that the final cost would include materials, which ended up being right on. They used some materials we already had, and bought everything else for us based on our descriptions (paint colors, finishes, carpeting style, etc). Whenever they had a question about what we wanted, we received a phone call to confirm. If I had a question, Sergio was always prompt in getting back to me (his voicemail is basically always full, but he is really good about calling you back based on the missed call phone number). In the end, the work was completed on time, it looks great, and for a lot less than other estimates. Highly recommended!

Excellent. Sergio first came here and gave me an estimate. He gave me a cost for labor and a rough cost for material. I decided on him because a friend was very happy with him and I saw his great rating on eBay. Sergio did demolition of the area and asked me how I thought about what looked more like destruction. I felt fine since I was told to expect this from friends. He then added new plumbing and electrical since the layout was changing. He also suggested I speak to his cabinet person. They came in and definitely suggested a cabinet that was more appropriate to the style of the house. The development of cabinets delayed construction but gave me more time to make other decisions. It was decided to not use prefinished wood floors,........................... It ended up being spectacular.

Great. Better than I could have hoped. Sergio is extremely patient and an excellent listener, as is his whole crew. When we started, Sergio listened took our sketchy plans and made several excellent suggestions about materials and decorating. Demolition was clean and fast. Plumbing work was held up by problems with supplies and complicated by the fact I hired my own plumber. Although I know this caused Sergio scheduling problems, he never complained. Sergio and his crew are problem solvers. I made some measurement errors and the vanity I ordered was the wrong size. Sergio's carpenter explained the options to me, listened to my input, and came up with a solution that looks and feels perfect. When I accidentally used masking tape that damaged the walls. Sergio and his crew take responsibility. Since the renovation involved moving a door, it was inevitable that some other rooms were affected. Anywhere there was damage, Sergio had plaster and baseboards fixed, and everything painted. The carpenter installed the vanity a few inches from the wall, not realizing that the cabinet doors were hinged to be installed flush. The day after I explained the issue, everything was fixed. Some of these things came up when Sergio was out of town unexpectedly. Dio, his second-in-charge did an excellent job of communicating and staying on top of things in Sergio's absence. I frankly wasn't looking forward to this renovation, and throughout I was focused on the practical benefits. But now I not only have two full baths, but they are really beautiful.

Sergio came out and looked the porch over. He gave me a verbal estimate on what the job would cost. I asked him for a written estimate, which I always request when hiring a contractor. He hemmed and hawed and said that it was "such a small job" (i.e., only a few thousand dollars) and it would take up too much of his time to do a written estimate. This surprised me, because I had a legal pad and pen ready and would have been fine with something he scribbled down then and there. I told him I couldn't hire without a written estimate. He then agreed to send me an estimate, but seemed put out. I picked out a tile and was ready to go, but Sergio never sent the estimate. Although I have seen a lot of positive reviews of his company's work, I did not hire him, because I prefer contractors who follow through on a promise. I went with Saulnier Floors and a hardwood floor instead, and was very satisfied.

Excellent! Sergio is the best. We would not consider another contractor for work on our house. He comes personally to assess, keeps us informed and makes sure the job is done to the customer's satisfaction.

Sergio is friendly and courteous. He returned all phone calls promptly. The first bath was done fairly quickly, and Sergio was around often enough to check on his workers, and make sure things were going well. When the second bathroom was started (some time later), we did not see Sergio that much, and there was some miscommunication with his men. Everytime Sergio would make it right, but I would have prefered that he came out more often himself, or sent someone who was responsible in his place to check on things. The end result is quite nice, and for a good price, however it was frustrating at times. I was starting to feel like I was the contractor. Communication was difficult with a few of the workers, as their english was limited. And one plumber kept leaving before he was finished, which was annoying. I would call Sergio, and the plumber would return, but that took up my time as well, and slowed down finished the project. We would probably hire Sergio again, since the end result and price are good, but I would definitely ask Sergio to make sure things get done correctly the first time.

Wonderful! Sergio and his crew did a GREAT job! His advice was spot on (for example - choose 12 x 12 tiles for the hallway and kitchen - it'll make it look bigger) and the quality of work was just great. He corrected a mis-step part way through (I wanted a shower only - he had started down the tub path -- but after I reminded him it was corrected) without hesitation. His standards are also very high! When we were doing the final walk-through, he noticed two things that I had not that weren't quite done. The next day, one of his guys came in and finished the two small things. Also - his sub-contractors were wonderful! I'll post pictures - the work can speak for itself.

My home is situated on a steep hill and the work includes a few obstacles. Unfortunately Sergio's team didn't have the experience or equipment for this job. Several other contractors have look at this project, asked a lot of detailed questions and then didn't get back to me. I much prefer Sergio's response which was straightforward and decisive and didn't waste my time. Plus he offered to help try to find someone better suited for the job. I'll definitely contact him again after this project is complete and I renovate the bathrooms.

Everything is being done exactly as we had told them. The stairs project is probably the biggest of all but it has been done really well. The work so far has turned out to be amazing and there is a couple of projects pending to be finished. Originally it was a little difficult to get in touch with them but once we hired them they always have been responsive. We haven?t received the bill from them yet but we have had couple of estimates from the others and I think Sergio?s was the most competitive. We have had to add a couple of things since the estimate but I hope that the final bill will be similar to what they had quoted initially.

Sergio was great to work with.? He was very responsive and the job proceeded very quickly.? His guys were great, very professional.? They cleaned up at the end of every day and tried to keep the mess and intrusion to a minimum.? The tiler was a true artist, as you can see from the pictures.? What I most appreciated about Sergio is that he let me choose everything and installed what I chose beautifully.? I will definitely be using his services in the future.?

I received bids from roughly 10 contractors and as soon as I met Sergio I knew he was the man for the job. He provided me with a flat rate quote to gut my kitchen and bathroom that was substantially lower than any of the other bids that I received. His team arrived on time everyday. They cleaned up the work space every day and were very nice and respectful. His team completed the work in approximately 4 weeks (two weeks ahead of schedule). I was thrilled with all of the work that Sergio's team completed. They exceeded my expectations. During the renovation we found out that some support beams had been rotted and that the drainage in my bathroom would need to be replaced. Sergio's team completed the needed repairs and did not increase the price that he charged me. Sergio was very helpful in developing ideas and he really takes ownership over making the customer happy and creating a great finished product. I am totally thrilled with the job that Sergio's team did. The finished product was great and Sergio's team painted my doors, installed new door thresholds in my basement and made drywall repairs in my bedroom at no additional charge. Sergio is a very honest man who stood by his quote even though his team went above and beyond what we initially discussed. I would never use another contractor. If you are doing a kitchen or bath renovation, I highly suggest getting in touch with Sergio (it is worth calling him a few times if that is what it takes to initially reach him). I left a detailed message on their service with my contact info and describing what I was looking for and never heard back from anyone. This was incredibly disappointing, especially because I'd read so many positive reviews from other members and was ready to start right away. While it's conceivable they lost my number or never got my message, I simply didn't have the time to gamble with the possibility that this was someone I'd have to constantly chase down and check up on. I held off as long as I could, but ended up hiring individual contractors to do the work I needed, which was exactly what I didn't want to have to do. I hate having to give any provider a bad grade, but I also want to be honest with my feedback and give the provider a heads up that it really does make a difference when you don't call a customer back - as much as I'd like to give someone a chance, there's not a lot of room for mistakes.

I heard about Sergio from Angie's list. Other contractors had looked at my pit of a bathroom and given me estimates ranging from 22,000 to 28,000 to renovate. Sergio came and talked to me, listened to my ideas, and respected my budget. We worked out a plan for the bathroom and he was able to start right away. The tile work is fantastic; he was able to get me some marble for the floor for the same price as tile, so that was a plus. I also requested a deep tub, which is hard to find now, and expensive or special order. Sergio found one that was deeper than my old one and not expensive. The workers were clean, quiet, professional. There was actually very little dust. They cleaned up every day, took out all the old wood and plaster. The toilet was put back every night. And he got my tub and shower going in 3 days, so that I could take a shower. (I only have one bathroom.) My metal baseboard heater was really a sight, so he removed it and built a beautiful wooden replacement, that blends so well with the trim that it seems part of it. The old wooden window in the shower, which had rotted, was completely removed and a glassblock window installed. I have much more light, and air. I have all new plumbing (copper), new electrical outlets and recessed lighting, new ceiling with a fan, new floor, walls, wainscoting and kohler sink and toilet and faucets. I am in heaven. I am planning to work with Sergio on some kitchen renovations also, less extensive than the bath. Also, the work is done to last. It is truly a re-built room, not just a cosmetic renovation. Sergio is the one you want. He is gentle, kind, has excellent taste, and has assembled a fantastic crew of skilled workmen.

The work was good. There was some communication confusion. The work turned out excellent. They were skilled at what they did. They did a quality job and came on time. The price was reasonable.

Sergio came to our house to take a look at our condo and discussed our renovation project. He was very nice, informative and helpful. We talked about the plans that we had and said that he would be giving us an estimate in the next few days. Three weeks had passed and we did not hear from him. I called him and asked them to send us the estimate, Sergio apologized and said that he was superbusy and that he would call later with the estimate. He never bothered to call back. He seems like a great guy (he has very good reviews) but I think he is just very busy, and he should probably not take new clients unless he knows that he will have the time to get back to them.

Sergio was very responsive from the get-go. He answered the phone the first time I called and set up a time that very evening to come take a look at the job. He gave me a quote on the spot and stuck to it. He gave me good advice about where to go to look at doors and approximately what I would pay for them(there is a huge range depending upon what type of door you select). When I was ordering the doors, the man selling me the doors told me that if he were having doors installed, he would be very happy to have Sergio's team doing it. Sergio's team showed up the day after the doors were delivered, on a Saturday, and had them both installed by 2 pm that day-even though it was one of the coldest days of the year here in Boston. They came back on Monday to do some finishing work on the drywall and molding. They came back two weeks later to do the painting, because it was too cold to paint before then. His team also installed curtain rods on both doors after helping me select them. They did a great job-Sergio and his guys were responsive to every question I asked-and the doors look great. I also feel quite confident that if there is ever any problem, Sergio will send his guys right over to take care of it-he stands behind his work 100%.

Sergio was an excellent contractor, dealing with the difficulties of working in an old building (and some touchy neighbors). There were a couple of delays in getting inspections early on, but once the rough was done things progressed amazingly quickly. Sergio restored a couple of windows, and refinished floors and repainted in the main hallway--work over and above my original request, and for which he did not charge extra labor. There were a couple of glitches during demolition, not in terms of the work done, but things like taking trash out the front hall rather than the back hall as my neighbors had requested. Sergio made good on every concern that was raised, including reworking some of the building's general plumbing at his own expense. It helped that I communicated what I wanted to Sergio very clearly, and that I was understanding of reasonable delays (such as the inspections) over which he had no control. Sergio worked hard for us to have a good working relationship, and I appreciated that, and responded in kind.

We love our new kitchen! Sergio is a real pro. He is a gentleman and very easy to talk to and deal with. He provided useful design suggestions for this kitchen that my wife and I essentially re-designed ourselves. Sergio's worker put in very busy 12 hour days. They arrived promptly around 7 bAM and worked all day. They were more quiet than I had anticipated. They did excellent work. Because some of the workers really did not speak English, there was some confusion at times. The excellent craftsman who installed flooring and back splah misunderstood how we wanted some decorative pieces installed in back splash, but Sergio saw to it that the error was corrected. Sergio and his crew provided some extras. I asked them to dispose of some old paint cans, a very heavy pool table from our cellar and they took the stuff away. Sergio's excellent tile person also at no cost to us reset some bricks and loose stones in a brick porch on our house. Neither of these things were included in the kitchen/ bath project, but Sergio did it anyway.

Work was delayed when the tile I chose was not immediately available, but Sergio rescheduled to get the work done as soon as possible. He also had the bathroom repainted, since taking down and removing old tile resulted in a few scratches. He didn't ask for any payment until the work was completed to our satisfaction. The bathroom is much improved at a cost we could afford.

The job lasted only 2 1/2 days and I was very satisfied with the work. The only caveat was that some of the workers have trouble with English. I know a little Portuguese which helped me a bit, but Sergio speaks English very well and is always available.

Sergio was responsive from the very beginning to the end. Promptly returned phone calls and scheduled a date to do the work. I chose Sergio's Renovations based on reviews from Angie's list and after meeting him. You just get a good feeling about the guy- he listens and answers your questions, and you know he is a professional! He does mostly larger projects but had availability to do this for us. Two guys came to our home on the day and time we agreed upon and had the work done in 1 day (much to our surprise- they had to cut out the existing arched entranceway, and build the door frame and do the finishing work). They listened to what we wanted, and went out and bought hardware to match our living room. They took great care to protect the furniture and hung plastic to try to keep the dust at bay. They needed to patch up and paint some areas, and where some companies may cut corners and just paint the area that was patched, they painted the entire wall for a great finish. We've thought of adding a farmer's porch and expanding our home and would definitely call Sergio first! My husband and I have high expectations and we both would highly recommended him without any reservations.

Couldn't have gone better. The only complaint I have is that the work ethic of Sergio's crew is amazing. They were frequently on the job from 7 AM to 7 PM and they worked on Saturdays as well.

Sergio's did a fantastic job. Sergio is very responsive - he listened to what I wanted, took every call that I made to him, and he brought a great crew in to do the work - people who took pride in their work, and did not leave until it was done. When Sergio chose closet doors which I decided was not what I wanted for the bedroom (not due to any error on Sergio's part), he immediately switched them out for me, no questions asked, and installed just what I wanted. We are extremely pleased with the work that they did. My wife is already planning the next project that she wants Sergio to do.

I chose Sergio over some lower 'by the hour" estimates due to a previous experience with him and for the security of a known price. In the process of gutting, old corroded vent pipe were found and Sergio replaced this plumbing and kept to his original fee. Sergio gave great advice to my overall plan, has a good practical sense of what works and looks good. Especially seems to be experienced in older houses like ours. Sergio's workmen, especially the tile guy and the carpenter are craftsmen. The carpenter custom built a beautiful cabinet and shelf piece. Sergio works with you with the attitude that he wants you to be satisfied and he wants to make a great bathroom for you. Its almost like he is working on a room in his own house. He is very responsive to phone calls and takes feedback well. When I called him his mailbox was almost always full, but he got the message and was always back to me quickly. He went beyond expectations in two specific ways. First he re-tiled a floor in a small 3rd floor bathroom for a very nominal cost that was not on the original contract. He said he would do this for the low fee because the project was taking longer than planned. Most of the delay though was due to his extra plumbing of vent pipes and longer lead times for some of the tile I chose. Second he responded quickly to a problem after the job was done. I reported to him a faulty flush valve on my new toilet, he called the store where I bought the toilet, got a new part and sent his plumber to install it. Sergio is just a pleasure to work with, always positive, cheerful and well.... always Sergio!
