Sergio's Renovations

Sergio was great, returned phone calls, showed up on time and honored all commitments in the time frame promised. His guys do great work and really care the project. Top marks!

He said he couldn't take the project until June because he was so busy but he spent 1 1/2 hours walking through the apartment with me. He was wonderful but I couldn't hire him. He was great. He was a very stand up guy. He gave me the pros and cons of what not to get talked into. He actually referred me to someone who happened to be out of the country for the next three weeks. I needed someone to start immediately. It was a big job and I didn't want to be my own contractor. He could have done it, but not until June. He was upfront and honest. He showed concern. It is a small apartment and I had someone that wanted $8,000 for just the bathroom. It is a very small bathroom. He came within a week for the estimate and he was right on time. He was also handsome.

I called Sergio on Monday, he came over on Tuesday, spent 10 minutes looking around and gave me a quote on the spot. It was hundreds less than anyone else! On Thursday morning he had two of his workers at my door on time, and they painted two bedrooms and a hallway that day. Two coats of paint in all rooms. The only slight problem was that they didn't patch a dent in one wall caused by a doorknob, but I didn't ask ahead of time for a full sanding and patching job, and actually, I was just looking for a good paint job at the best price, so I got exactly what I wanted and faster than I ever expected.

Sergio is amazing! We had a wonderful renovation experience with Sergio in the lead. When we were first looking for a contractor to tackle this big job, we were impressed by the sheer number of reports for him on Angie?s -all raving about how great it was to work with Sergio and how he and his crew exceeded expectations. Well, we were so fortunate to experience that for ourselves! Sergio is really a great general contractor to work with. We found his pricing to be very reasonable (price above is labor only; materials separate--costs/quality of materials chosen is up to the client.) And as many have stated in their reviews, Sergio provides a verbal agreement at the beginning of the project and sticks to it. We admire his sincerity, honesty, integrity, and experience. And he is very personable too, so it was always nice to talk with him. His guys are all very skilled and work super hard?they came in on time (they often arrived earlier than scheduled and would wait in the van until we were ready); many times they worked late into the night to get something done and on weekends too. They are very focused on their work and don?t talk much, but we got very used to having them around. It was funny, after the kitchen was done, it felt weird not to have the guys at our house anymore! Sergio manages his several teams very well, rotating in the carpenter/electrician/plumber/plasterers/painters/tiler/etc as needed. The workers were tidy and respected our requests to keep dust to a minimum (we were still living in the house and have a young child) and they were open to putting up extra barriers for us. At the time of our renovation, Sergio had about 25 other jobs going on?how he does it we don?t know, but we were very impressed. The kitchen itself took about 3 months and overall the project went amazingly smoothly. We had relatively few surprises, and Sergio and his crew worked through each of them. For example, one cabinet did not fit the allotted space perfectly, but Sergio?s carpenter fixed the problem so that we can?t even tell the issue existed at all! Another surprise--a more major one-- was that the crew discovered after demo that the ceilings in the three rooms we had planned on joining were uneven. No matter, Sergio?s guys took care of that?rebuilding the entire ceiling! That was really a monumental task and they worked late into the night so that the project could proceed as planned. Their work is beautiful, the craftsmanship exquisite. We really appreciate their attention to detail too. His tile guy is especially patient and does amazingly beautiful work. We really love our new kitchen and have been enjoying the space very much. Everyone who visits is impressed with the kitchen and bathrooms, especially those who?ve seen our ?before? kitchen. It truly makes the whole house feel ?new?. We cannot thank Sergio enough for all the time and effort he and his crew poured into our home, and for a really fabulous and refreshing contractor experience.

Sergio and his men performed an amazing amount of work all in a short period of time and for a fabulous price. I love my new home! My only issue was with the time frame promised. We had just bought our condo and planned to move in when Sergio finished. We had to book movers and cable installation etc weeks ahead of time, and I work from home so making sure construction was completed before move-in was incredibly important. Sergio was super-eager when we first discussed the renovations and I believe he over promised. Sergio initially promised to finish the work in 3 weeks. I planned my move for four weeks. The work actually took closer to 6 weeks. I don't mind how long the work took because there was so much work done and I was amazed at the quality of his craftsmanship, but promising a more do-able timeline at the beginning of the project would have cut down on any disappointment. Sergio is busy, and rightly so, because he does good work. Time management is definitely something he needs to work on. That said, when I expressed dismay, Sergio did everything in his power to make sure the work was completed thoroughly and promptly. Thank you for my gorgeous condo, Sergio!

While it took some time to initially get a hold of Sergio, once he was on the job he was VERY responsive to our calls and requests. Don't be surprised if it takes 7-8 calls to get him to call you back initially to get an estimate, but he and his crew are worth the wait. His qoute will be for labor only. At the end he provided a set of receipts for all the materials used on the project. One piece of adivce may be to check in with him midway through the project as the materials expense line of our project came in higher than we initially estimated. However, the reciept reporting was accurate and everything that was included was actually used or installed in our project. His people are very hard working, prompt, and neat. He subs out the plumbing and electrical. Plumber did a top notch job, we have a little confusion with the electrician over some extras that were required with the project, but Sergio stood behind us 100% in making sure that the electrical contractor was fair in his pricing. Quality of work by Sergio's crew is excellent, fit and finish is excellent and the project came out beautifully. Sergio even absorbed some of the cost of the materials over-run helping us to control the overall cost of the project. Working with his group was one of the easiest contracting experiences we have had. The overall cost of the project ended up being on par with the two other quotes that we got, but we waited for Sergio knowing that the quality and experience would both be good, and they were. You can trust him that he will do an excellent job at a fair price.

Sergio was incredibly accessible, responsive, and his guys could not be more professional. His initial quote was 100% accurate, it was for Labor only ($15000), but his materials ended up being reasonable as well ($5000). Sergio began on time, and was always accurate about his timing, and the work that was planned. Sergio and our Designer/Cabinet/Counter guy worked together closely and made sure all went smoothly. Our Kitchen came out beautifully, and we could not be more pleased with his work.

I felt this ran smoothly. Only bumps along the way were related to city inspectional services and some difficulty communicating with some workers as English wasn't their comfortable language but most days someone could easily bridge that gap. ALL employees were very courteous and considerate of the fact that I worked nights, needed to sleep in the day (believe me I can sleep through a lot of noise) and of my two cats who I needed to keep barricaded out of the kitchen---the cats tore that down on a nightly basis when I was at work and each day Sergio's team re-barricaded the kitchen. I felt that the work involved with this older house was more involved than Sergio's initial quote for labor but he stuck to his initial quote. The granite dealer he suggested to me was a great choice.

Sergio's Renovations gave us the very best in service and took care of everything, right down to smallest detail. He completely gutted 2 bathrooms and the kitchen. Combined two rooms into one and lifted the ceiling. He did the tile floor to ceiling in both bathrooms, installed fixtures. He installed wood flooring in the kitchen and offere me great suggestions. He also put a picture window in the kitchen. I had a very good feeling about Sergio when I met him. I knew he was someone I could trust and I was correct. Everyone who comes to my house is awed. See for yourself with the pictures I included. It is absolutely beautiful. I highley recommend him.

Sergio is a one-of-a-kind contractor. I trust him. His crew does beautiful work. His pricing is fair. He takes pride in his work, I take pride on the compliments I get when people see the work he has done. Before starting the project, Sergio spent time discussing it with me, understanding what I was trying to accomplish, presented new alternatives I hadn't thought of, and discussed the pros and cons of each one. He kept me informed of the status of the work and issues that came up. He made himself available to answer my questions. His crew is considerate, prompt, skilled, and is committed to doing a quality job.

Sergio and his team of workers did a great job on our bathroom. The work was done timely and in a professional manner. Sergio was always available via cell phone and responded to any issues or concerns immediately. The sub contractors were skilled and professional, even though sometimes there was a language barrier which made difficult to communicate effectively, but regardless they knew what to do and did it well. The project was complete on time and on budget. I would certainly recommend Sergio and company for bathroom renovations.

Sergio's Renovations team has renewed everything in my house. I call him every time we need some work to be done because Sergio and his co-workers are excellent professionals. Also this time everything was perfectly done. Price and time were exactly as expected and the work was beautifully done. Even when there where inevitable little adversities or problems they efficiently and promptly solved them. I have to add that not only Sergio himself is able to give important input and suggestions for the job to be done but even his co-workers add their beautiful creativity to their work. I am talking specifically of the very good carpenter and the painter.

Everyone who worked for Sergio was reliable, careful not to do damage and neat. Sergio himself is very easy-going, willing to spend time to find out what customers want and do what it takes to resolve problems. Most of the work was done while we were not home. When questions came up, either Sergio or one of his guys called to find out what we wanted. The project ran longer than planned, especially when it got close to the holidays and there were long waits for inspections. Sergio's guys worked long hours and some weekends to get it done. They knew were having a holiday party and worked even harder to make sure the house was presentable in time. We'd gladly use them again.

Sergio himself was the point of contact and was very easy to work with, reachable, and responsive. Timely response to requested quotations. Started work on or about the quoted date. Provided recommendations for tile vendor and cabinet subs that on researching provided good value and selection (Watertown Tile and Prestige Kitchen and Bath). Worked well to our detailed plan with only minor detail issues. Quick and timely interactions with inspectors. All workers and subs were courteous and worked to our work-site requirements (mostly accessing and securing the house). Good quality work by tile installer he figured out some tough issues. Kept rest of house dust free / segregated. Minor issues with follow through on cable and telephone installations (weren't hooked-up in basement until pointed out after we got the TV and phone in place after the completion of work). The work went beyond the initial schedule, some due to Sergio's and his direct sub's planning, some due to our planning, some resulting from outside but recommended subs, but nothing egregious or unexpected, and generally still better than from other contractors (this is our thrid >$25K renovation project in 12 years). While Sergio's is far better than our previous experiences, there is room to do even better in setting and meeting schedule expectations and in making sure all of the execution details are completed, by the subs in particular. Overall very satisfied with Sergio's Renovations as the best value contractor we have used and we will use him on our next project.

Sergio de Assis is the man! Somehow he manages to juggle 18 to 24 renovation jobs at once and do it with aplomb. He made the whole ten-week process a pleasure, and his almost exclusively Brazilian-American crew worked tirelessly to meet our deadlines. Definitely the high quote in the bunch, but when he said all-in he meant it. Superb.

We would definitely use Sergio again - and have done so since this work was done! Sergio and his crew are extremely good at what they do. They are responsible, thoughtful, skilled, conscientious and most importantly honest. There were times when issues came up which may not have been Sergio's fault, but he made sure that he took responsibility to fix the situation. He was also very good at keeping to our budget. At the beginning, we negotiated a budget for the services - and that is what we paid for at the end. There were a few surprises during the remodeling such as hidden fire damage and additions which we then negotiated before that phase of remodeling began. In total, it took 6 months to complete, but for the scope of work, it was done well, on time and on a great budget! We have done remodeling projects in the past, and Sergio has been the best we have worked with. There are a few concerns we had with Sergio. Some of the sub-contractors he works with such as his electrical person did not do the kind of quality work as his own crew. At times, it was pretty frustrating and we would recommend that you find your own electrical/plumbing person to work with Sergio. Also, Sergio is in high demand, and sometimes it was difficult to get a hold of Sergio, especially since his voice mailbox is often full and you can't leave a message. Fortunately, he knew that you called and usually called back promptly.

As I have read here so many times, Sergio is just a gem to work with. His high standards and easy going personality resulted in an outstanding finished project and a very happy customer. This was a very difficult project, in part, because we only have one bathroom. He and his team ensured that we had a working toilet every day by carefully reinstalling it each day and taking it out again the next. The tile work was very detailed and his tiler did a fantastic job. In fact, Sergio and his tiler made great suggestions that I incorporated into the final design. My husband and I cannot say enough about the great work - tiling, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry that Sergio provided. As we were having our new custom glass shower door surround installed, that contractor told us that he "is always happy to follow Sergio" because everything is done just right. I would give Sergio the highest of recommendations and we definitely plan to have him back soon.

We are extremely happy with the final product! The project was completed on time, the quality of work was excellent and the price was fair. Sergio prices for labor only. He is extremely firm in this pricing, which was one reason I chose him - I didn't feel like he would be nickel and diming me on the labor if something came up unexpectedly. We asked for some additional work once the initial demolition was done. Sergio gave me a verbal quote and stuck to this. I like that he works on good faith. He gives a materials estimate separately so there is never a question of what is or is not included. (We went over on the materials estimate by a bit because of some extra lumber that was needed once the walls were opened up, but the labor price did not change). Sergio's workers are courteous and professional. Some of them do not speak much English but they do good work. They always made sure to sweep and tidy up at the end of each work day. Sergio is extremely busy - sometimes he can run late so it helps to be flexible. Once he is committed to the project he is on top of things. If you call and don't reach him, he will see you have called and always calls back in a timely manner, even if his voice mailbox is full. Towards the end of the project, things sometimes felt a little chaotic, with lots of little details to finish up. At this stage it was important to stay organized and keep communicating - in the end, Sergio made sure that the details were seen to. For example, the work caused some cracking of walls in our bedroom - we were worried about this being fixed properly, as it required matching old paint, but it was all taken care of. Same went for the small scratches on our dining room floor due to moving of the appliances - the floors were resanded and refinished, even though we had not specified this in our initial estimate. It is clear that Sergio's team has a lot of experience. Therefore, things don't catch them by surprise and they are able to complete work on time and within budget. We would definitely use Sergio's team for another project.

Sergio and his crew are absolutely fantastic! They worked with us on every detail and did amazing work. They moved a beam we thought would be impossible to move and gave us much more space. We had a problem with the dishwasher we ordered and he took it back to the warehouse at the last minute, even though it was our mistake, so that we would have a completed kitchen for Thanksgiving.

I called, talked to Sergio, he came over the next morning as promised, and after a brief inspection and some checking, gave me an estimate and asked if I wanted it done the same day after he confirmed one of his men would be available later. There was a little confusion about what time his man would arrive, but, a quick call to Sergio handled it and the man arrived a little later. He finished the job in under 2 hours, asked me to check that everything was done to my satisfaction, was paid and left. UPDATE: We?ve had some problems since the initial visit. We have found leaks since then. We initally gave him all A's but have updated our grading to reflect this.

Sergio gave very attractive bid prices (which he eventually used) and gave great suggestions where to buy tiles and doors since the house was almost 200 years old and sizes were irregular. Once supplies were acquired by homeowner, Sergio scheduled a reasonable time to perform the work. The tile work went in smoothly although we had to call his guys back to finish some sanding and they forgot to bring screws to mount shelves. The doors went in very smoothly and worked well.

The project started out a bit rough when they did not show up on the designated start day. However, after I e-mailed Sergio, he returned my call the same day, apologized immediately (he thought we were starting the following week), and sent out at least twice as many as his regular crew the next day to make up the missed time. His guys showed up promptly every morning ready to work. Sergio did not come by every day, but stopped by often enough that I was very comfortable with having all of my questions answered. The drywall work and paint was fantastic (no visible seams). The woodwork that they did was also top notch. Sergio usually quotes a firm price for labor and an estimate for materials - and his estimate was right on. My family is very pleased with our attic, and will absolutely keep Sergio in mind for our next renovation project.

The only contractor I would ever use. Fantastic job from start to finish. There are so many accolades about Sergio's crew that I will only mention the following. 1. Outstanding quality: the work was done by hand meticulously, in many instances repeated 3-4 times until it met their standards 2. Very responsive to suggestions and feedback: if we had any concerns about a particular color or detail, his team or Sergio himself were always there to address them. Sometimes this was done through a discussion, other times through a demonstration like painting a sample wall and seeing if we liked it. 3. The crew was extremely conscientious: they cleaned up everything and left nothing for us to clean. If they broke something (understandable given they were their for weeks doing major work) they went and bought a replacement without us asking them. 4. Coordination is simply amazing. Just to give you an example: after the trim was painted a carpenter had to fix a few details in the process damaging the freshly painted trim. I thought it would take a few days to have that repainted but in actually as soon as he was done, the painting crew was here and fixed all the trims in no time 5. They stand behind their work 100%. Two examples: we did not like how our floors were done (Sergio subcontracts another company for the floors). Sergio made them do it 4 times (!) until he liked the results and did not charge us anything extra. Secondly, after the work was fully completed, there were a few small details we discovered after we moved in. I called Sergio who responded immediately by sending his guys to fix all the problems quickly (again no extra charge).

The work was good; pretty satisfactory. He is conscientious. The worker's were also conscientious and easy to work with. I would recommend him to other people. We have a 100+ year old house, and there are always problems. His prices are flexible. You have to make allowances for contractors as far as punctuality goes.

When I first saw Sergio's uniformly extraordinary ratings, I was frankly astonished, but my subsequent dealings with him absolutely bear them out. I found him to be an amazing combination of affability, good humor, judgment, taste, and, above all, professionalism. We had put off having this job done for quite a few years, largely because of the imagined expense, but all of Sergio's expenses were entirely reasonable. With him there are no hidden costs; he charges for labor only (plus the inevitable miscellaneous items, of course) When he gives you his estimate, that's it. To put it simply, he knows exactly what he's doing, and his intelligence and experience inspire immediate confidence. While our work was underway, he was simultaneously working on two dozen other kitchen renovations, yet we never had the feeling that our fairly modest project was put on the back burner. He was always ready to answer any and all questions, and was always on top of everything. Everyone in his crew was unfailingly polite, incredibly hard-working, and obviously highly skilled, because the finished product is immensely satisfying to us. We are really delighted to have found Sergio, for we can't imagine that anyone could be better. Great work! He's a very busy guy but get him if you can; you won't go wrong, I promise.
