Sergio's Renovations

I asked Sergio to come and give me an estimate for a kitchen, bath and master suite remodel. He arrived on time, was pleasant and even gave me pointers here and there. However, I noticed that he wasn't writing anything down and didn't take any measurements. At the time I just thought that he had a great memory. He said he would send me an estimate for the kitchen and bath (but wanted to hold off on the master suite until the ceilings were exposed) but that was 2 weeks ago. I have since left him 2 messages and wrote an email but still no response. I'm sure he's busy and he has every right to turn down projects but at a minimum, professionalism dictates that he lets me know.

Sergio was responsive and they showed up on time. The work was professional. The painting was precise and the floors fit tight. The plumbing and electrical work was very precise and up to code. They cleaned up every day. He had high quality materials. He made sure there were no defects and was good at getting us discounts. He was very up front that it would be 6 to 8 weeks and we lived there while the work was done. This was a huge job, updating a 50s kitchen to current day.

After scanning Angie's List I called a few of the highest rated contractors to get pricing for a total kitchen renovation Sergio returned my phone call within a few hours and made an appointment for the very next morning to see the job. Sergio arrived to the appointment on time and quickly began sizing up the job. He recommended a couple companies for cabinets, countertops, under-cabinet lighting. He was friendly, professional and easy to talk to, answering all my questions. Sergio got back to me with a quote for the job in writing and gave a 6-week time estimate for the work to be completed. Sergio’s quote was not only the least in price, it was also quickest start time and completion time estimated. After agreeing on a price for the work Sergio gave me a start date of about 2 weeks. He took care of securing the building permit as well as all necessary inspections. Sergio’s workers are very courteous and clean. The cabinets were removed, and walls were taken down on the first day. After each day the floors were cleaned and moped. It was surprisingly clean after each day of work and the progress from day to day was remarkable. This is my first renovation and I was unaware of all the decisions that had to be made on the fly. Sergio was patient with me and did not have issues when I changed my mind after initial discussions. The kitchen renovation went smoothly without surprises until near the end when the neighbor downstairs heard a noise when I ran hot water down the new sink. Sergio worked patiently with that neighbor to repair the problem, which consisted of cutting into his wall and securing the noisy pipe. Sergio then repaired the wall in the neighbors unit, primed and painted the affected wall and satisfied the neighbor beyond their expectations. I am sure when they have renovation needs they will call Sergio. Sergio’s Renovations completed my kitchen renovation on budget, and on schedule. Working with Sergio and his crew was a pleasure and I would highly recommend them for any home renovation needs.

I couldn't be more happy with the work Sergio & his team performed in my home! He is a true gentleman and was a pleasure to work with. His team of painters/carpenters, etc, were just as professional. They all performed excellent work down to the last detail! I would definitely use Sergio in the future and would highly reccommend him to anyone!! Thank you Sergio for making my home look beautiful! I had initially asked for a quote for replacing a radiator, relocating the toilet/sink, and putting in new drywall to camouflage pipes in my bathroom. After looking at what I wanted, Sergio told me the cost would be such that it would be to my advantage to simply renovate the entire bathroom, which is in a 1910-era condo and had been cheaply updated in the early '70s. I took his advice and I'm so glad I did. His guys did a superb job. They were very painstaking, cleaned up every night before leaving, and were very respectful of the fact that they were in my home. Sergio made several design suggestions that made a huge difference in how well the final project turned out, and suggested resources so I could shop for the hardware myself to better manage costs. Though Sergio will accommodate whatever you want to do, in my experience, you ignore his suggestions at your peril. The project came in right where he projected it would in terms of cost, and Sergio also was very helpful and patient in managing objections from troublesome upstairs neighbors. All in all, I don't feel I could have selected a better contractor. What I now refer to as "my glorious bathroom" instead of "that s**thole" was worth the effort and expense.

Sergio and his team gave us exactly what we asked for. We renovated 2 bathrooms simultaneously and Sergio transformed them from 1923 carbuncles to lovely functional stylish bathrooms. The family bath we essentially renewed in the same footprint with some nice additions like a custom cupboard and wall hung Runkel radiator (Sergios's suggestion) and the master bath we had a large custom double shower fitted and added a double vanity in an adjoining room. We employed Sergio because we immediately liked his style, his attention to detail and relaxed, yet respectful and direct approach to the job. After reviewing the work he gave us a quote for the labor ($19,000) and stuck to it despite a few hiccups and minor changes to plans. (We had other estimates for the work that ranged from lower to significantly higher. Segio's bid was definitely on the reasonable end of the spectrum). For example we had a faulty bathtub delivered and he (a) noticed the fault and (b) handled the return and redelivery of the new tub, during the work there was some accidental damage to the ceiling below the bathroom and Sergio had it re-plastered immediately (now it looks much better than before!), we had some delays with deliveries - and wrong deliveries (eg. the wrong vanity base then the wrong vanity top was delivered) and Sergio"s crew were on hand to accommodate all the deliveries and immediately installed any new arrivals. Overall the job took a little longer than anticipated, this wasnt entirely Sergio's fault since there were delays he could not control and we would certainly hire Sergio again. After many experiences with contractors and home renovations, Sergios ranks very highly. This year we plan to overhaul our kitchen and we hope Sergio will do the job!

Beautiful, clean, and finished 1 day ahead of schedule!

Sergio is forthright. He kept his commitments to us. The workmen came in respectfully. They cleaned up every day. They asked if there was an adjustment that were needed. It was a level of service that was unequaled. They were an outstanding crew. We were so satisfied with them. The bookshelves look like they have been here since 1957. I can't say enough good things about them. He has my highest praise. We were wonderfully treated. Everything was well put together and he has a well put together team. We like his electrician, plumber and finish carpenter. He is a master at his craft.

We are very satisfied with Sergio's work. First off, Sergio is a very nice person, which makes interacting with him very pleasant and easy. Throughout the process he was very responsive (always returned calls) and resolved any problem very quickly and professionally. He is honest and direct. His employees did a high quality job. The remodel was completed on schedule.

My Angie's list membership paid for itself- many times over- when I found Sergio. First, he is an incredibly nice and honest guy. When I met him, I immediately liked him- I just got a good vibe. It felt like I was getting a partner in this project. He made recommendations when I asked for them but was otherwise completely dedicated to making my ideas work. He said more than once, "nothing is impossible" whenever I would ask, "could we do this?" His contractors are all extremely reliable and they do great work! His electrician in particular is amazingly patient and helpful- we ran into a code issue with outlet placement and he came up with a creative and effective solution. And his tile guy- WOW. Now that is a master craftsman. With all of the men who came to work on the job over the course of 8 weeks, you could tell they took pride in their work. Sergio stopped by frequently to monitor progress and address any concerns or issues I had. He is responsive to phone calls so nothing ever escalated into a problem. The men were great at keeping things clean!! They taped everything up well and this helped keep dust and mess to a minimum. They cleaned up every day before they left and were very respectful, keeping everything looking nice. Despite all of this- his was actually one of the lower quotes I received for labor! After Sergio provides a written quote for labor, you sign a contract and he will estimate materials. I liked this type of pricing because I wanted to be able to shop around for deals myself on things like marble and fixtures. Sergio suggested vendors when I asked (his recommendation to use Atlantis Shower Door was spot on- one of the best decisions we made!!! They are awesome!) but didn't push any vendors on me. The *only* issue that arose was the total cost of rough materials (things like plaster, pipe, etc.) that he and his workers purchased. The total cost ended up being twice what he originally estimated- so it came as a bit of a surprise. He had receipts for everything, explained why the cost grew so high, and walked me through where and how everything was used. I don't doubt this cost, and I would still consider this an amazing value for how everything turned out with the magnitude of the project, but we're just lucky we had the money! I believe this problem could have been mitigated with better communication on my part and checking in to see if we were still close to the estimate throughout the project, because logically, I should have seen how big the project was getting. I would maybe advise others to do the same. But I would hire Sergio again in a heartbeat. This was the single best renovation experience I have ever had. Their professionalism and quality of their work is outstanding, and I cannot wait until we save enough money to have Sergio renovate our kitchen!! Wholeheartedly recommended. You won't be disappointed.

Our kitchen floors had these ugly stick-on vinyl tiles put down by the previous owner. We wanted to install porcelain tiles. We solicited quotes from four contractors/tilers, including Sergio's Renovations. Being an old house, unevenness of the floor was a concern, because of which one of the tilers didn't want the job. Sergio's quote was in between the quotes from the other two contractors. He said he had tiled other uneven floors that have held up quite well over time. We chose him because his price wasn't too high, he seemed trustworthy, and his reviews on Angie's List were excellent. And we are happy to have made this decision. Sergio's tiler, Glaidson, is amazing. He worked alone and was extremely methodical. He used self-leveling cement to make the floor even, and he checked the evenness closely with a really long level. As he was about to start tiling, I kind of changed the design on him, and he rolled with it. After Glaidson was done, Sergio's carpenter, Erik, came in to trim the doors in order to accommodate the now-higher floor (there are two doors in the kitchen - one leading to basement and and the other to the back porch). He was super-efficient and he also put in some nice finishing touches. We also decided to have Sergio paint the kitchen and the doors. Our kitchen walls have dark-brown wood paneling. I'd painted them over when we moved in, but the stain had bled through and gave a muddy effect. The dark brown doors also made the kitchen feel dark. Sergio's painter, Marcio, came in a few days after the tiles were done (he was in middle of a big job, and he somehow found a day to squeeze in our small job). He did such an amazing job. By the end of the day the kitchen was so much brighter. The doors were particularly troublesome. They had glossy varnish so he had to apply oil-based primer. Even so, the paint wouldn't take in one area, so he came back another morning to re-sand that area and repaint. Also, one of the doors has inlay glass panel. Marcio removed the glass before he painted the door, but one of the glasses broke when he reinstalled them (they are old and fragile). But he somehow found some vendor who had that type of glass and had them custom cut to that shape. A few days after the tile and paint work was all done, we had an unfortunate accident - I dropped a heavy object on the beautiful new floor and a couple of tiles cracked at the edge. We called Sergio to see if he could squeeze us in his busy schedule to fix those tiles. Sergio asked Glaidson to do so when he had a gap in his schedule. Glaidson had many tile jobs lined up, so he had to fit us in after-hours. He showed up after finishing the day's job on a Saturday. He spend many hours on Saturday afternoon replacing the cracked tiles. Thanks to his consideration, our beautiful floor is restored. Overall, it was a pleasure working with Sergio. His crew is very professional and competent. We are quite happy with the results and already in discussions with Sergio for some more work at our condo.

We were very happy with the services provided. Sergio is a very nice (and importantly, also very patient...) guy, and so were all his employees and subcontractors. All our wishes and adjustments were fulfilled, just the way we wanted. The price was very competitive. One of the things we specifically liked was that Sergio gave us a fixed price on the labor, and he stuck to his estimate despite of some slight delays and complications (we had some material delays that were not related to Sergio, but he was very flexible about this). Many of the competing quotes were much less clear, including all kinds of vague terms, extra charges on top a "fixed' price that was already much higher than Sergio's initial quote.

They scheduled an estimate very fast. One guy came and did the whole primer coat (with paint I purchased) in one day. Next day they came and put two coats of finish on ceiling and walls. Sergio agreed that the paneling needed a brush coat rather than a roller, and the guys did a nice job on this. No mess, no bad edges. I'm fairly picky, and I can't say I'd have done a better job.

I was very excited to have Sergio give me quote for several jobs-wall and soffit removal for kitchen remodel and replacing sill in basement due to termite damage. He promptly showed up for the consult--was very friendly, offered advice, and seemed very attentive. At the end of the consult, he said that he would call with a verbal quote, probably later that day. After a week with no call, I called Sergio. He said that the quote was on his desk and that he had forgotten to call and would do it soon. I never heard from him. If he didn't want to work with us, for whatever reason, I would have appreciated a call or some sort of explanation. I'm really disappointed, especially since he got such good reviews on Angies List.

I cannot speak highly enough of Sergio Deassis and Sergio's Renovations. I received a return call within a half hour of my initial call, and a visit shortly thereafter from Sergio to assess the damage caused by my leaky shower stall. He sent one of his team back within several hours to regrout my shower stall. He arranged for another one of his team to return a week later to reseal the grout and repair and repaint the ceiling where the water had leaked through from the shower. Both of the workers arrived at the time promised. They worked efficiently. They cleaned up and returned things to their proper place. All of the work done was excellent. This was a very small job compared to the kitchen and bathroom renovations that are described in others' reports. To me, however, this was an enormous job that Sergio and his team handled promptly, professionally and at a great price. I recommend Sergio and Sergio's Renovations most highly.

Sergio came to our condo to assess the project and provided an estimate the next day. We quickly accepted the estimate and work began approx. 1 week later. I had gone to one possible supplier to cost stone for our frameless shower but he suggested a second supplier which ended up saving me over $1000 (note:supply costs not included in price stated above). The workers were meticulous in the painting preparation and in the clean-up (my husband and I joked that the house was cleaner after they left than it had ever been before!). The worker who tiled our shower was a true craftsman-- never cutting any corners and his work was just perfect. We are so pleased with the results. Our place looks terrific. I would recommend Sergio to all of you. He is very knowledgable and accommodating and he will make sure your project is completed to your satisfaction!

I needed Sergio's services because my house was flooded from a water main break. Sergio took care of everything. He helped us design our new laundry room and bathroom and he took care of everything. He noticed that we had problems with our drainage in our backyard and he installed new french drains to help make sure we do not have a flooding issue in the future. I wanted Sergio to do the work because he did a fantastic job on my kitchen and bathroom last year. His team arrived on time every day and completed the work in about 8 weeks. This was a complete gut job and everything turned out great. We could not be happier with the quality of his work. Sergio quotes you a price for labor and sticks to it. He also gave us an estimate on materials and the actual cost ended up being less than we anticipated. Work included installing new bamboo floors, re-finishing wood steps, painting all rooms, installing new drywall, installing new closets, gut renovation of a bathroom, painting all rooms, installing new trim, brick patio outside, and installing heat in a bedroom. You may have to call Sergio a few times to initiall reach him, but it is worth it. I would use him again. All of the work was fantastic and the price was right.

No work was perfromed and we wasted our time.

He is the most accommodating contractor I've worked with. Very professional and friendly. He was VERY easy to reach by phone - and he, without complaint, accommodated any unexpected scheduling changes (there were just a few). His workers kept the work-site (my home!) very clean - they completely cleaned up each day. He understood my budget-range and made great suggestions on ways to improve the project so the end results exceeded my expectations (and more things were taken care of than I hoped we'd be able to afford). He is very honest - he will handle all project needs and has contractors for what he doesn't do with his crew. His contractors have the same work ethic. Many of the workers don't speak English - that never created a problem (probably because he seems to always be available by phone).

Very happy with the process and result. Sergio's crew were quiet, prompt, and clean. We had no problem with the required inspections (even though the electrical inspector in our town is known to be a little difficult to work with). The finish work is beautiful. We had requested a very specific type of scrolled ceiling, and when it did not initially turn out as we had hoped, Sergio immediately brought in another craftsman to redo it and assured us if we were not happy with the second fellow, he would bring in a third...but the second try was just beautiful. The custom cabinet was just perfect as well. We have a handicapped child, and the crew made certain we had access to the tub every night during the project. I even came home one afternoon to find one of the crew shoveling my sidewalk so I could more easily maneuver my son's wheelchair. Really an outstanding experience, considering how stressful renovations can be.

It was a great experience from start to finish. Sergio is professional in every way-- very honest, courteous, punctual and does a great job. He was by far the lowest estimate that I got for the work but it was quality work. My condo association was very happy and we are planning to hire him again for more work on the building in the near future.

He did a great job. He had an excellent priced. It was excellent all around. They walked back and forth on my brick patio. They cleaned up everything beautifully. There were spots that I couldn?t scrub off. I called Sergio and he sent someone out right away to scrub it off. I was very pleased with that response.

We had an excellent experience with Sergio. I had attempted to obtain 3 quotes for this job and got 2 (the third contractor never showed up). Sergio provides a quote for labor and he guarantees it, meaning that even if we had found out there was extra work needed once we gutted the walls, there would have been no extra charge for the additional labor. This guarantee was a very important factor in selecting Sergio; more so, actually, than the fact that his estimate was the lower one. He will also give you an estimate for the materials that he expects to use (e.g., new pipes, insulation, drywall) and he basically keeps receipts of everything he buys, which gets added up at the end for you to pay. Once the work got started there were very few hiccups, and any mistake or problem was addressed immediately -- again, very important when you are doing a big project. You have to expect that there will be at least a few little issues, mistakes, or miscommunications along the way. What matters is not that these mistakes happen but how your contractor responds to them. Sergio and his men were always extremely responsive in this regard. The renovation was pretty much on auto-pilot throughout. Sergio's workers showed up every morning when they were supposed to, worked diligently, cleaned up every day, and were all very polite and pleasant. They did good work; I am particularly impressed with the tile work for the floor and backsplash. I would be remiss if I did not say that Sergio himself is extremely easy and pleasant to work with; very easy going and easy to talk to, listens and responds to all concerns etc. In the end, Sergio stuck to his estimate. In fact, he was not going to charge me for something that was clearly an "extra" (refinishing the floors in the living room and dining room), and I had to tell him to add it to the bill. In summary, Sergio is honest, fair in his prices, reliable, responsive, and does quality work. I've already recommended him to a couple people including my in-laws. My only concern is that with all these referrals and great reviews that he gets on Angie's List, he might be too busy to take on our next renovation project!
