Sankaty Group Inc

We had an absolutely terrible experience with the Sankaty group, and Peter Atsiknoudas in particular. We got 3 quotes or so for deleading our 2 bedroom apartment. The Sankaty Group offered a fair price, falling in the middle of the two others. They had been recommended to us by a colleague of mine, so we went ahead with the work. They were very helpful in schedule the deleading for when we were out of town so that we wouldn't have to move into a hotel during the project. Alison Atsiknoudas was very easy to communicate with. The good experience stopped there. When we returned from our trip, we quickly realized that the work was of extremely poor quality. They had replaced the trim around our doors, sanded down some baseboards, and replaced the window sills and bibs. The new trim around the doors was the too thin, so it no longer matched the chair rail (which now stuck out awkwardly). The window sills weren't not even symmetric to the window - one side might stick out 1 inch and the other 1/2 inch. Several locations where lead had been found (door jams to the exterior) had not even been addressed! The tape they used to tape the vents had removed large portions of the finish on the floor. We were horrified. The most serious and upsetting aspect though was a safety concern that arose. As part of the work, Peter had agreed to install a new exterior door going to our basement. Lead paint had been found in the wall of the basement. We noticed that he had sanded this area and left paint powder everywhere. We bought a home test kit from Home Depot and tested the powder. The solution turned bright green, indicating lead. With children in the building, this was a very serious problem. We contacted Peter and he reacted angrily, telling us to (I quote) "Get a Life." My advice is to stay far, far away from the Sankaty group. Our experience was a total nightmare, and Peter, who seemed friendly at first, proved unprofessional, disrespectful, and unsafe.
