M & J Contracting

Cannot say enough about this team. They’re very professional , arrived on time and completed the work in less than 2 days. Vinny was very easy to work with and all our expectations were exceeded.

Vinny at M&J Contracting was referred to me by a neighbor who had recently made renovations to his house. Vinny was very communicative and initiated calls and returned mine. The price quoted never changed despite the unexpected surprise of more layers of shingles to remove than anticipated. There was so much debris from the roof but it was all hauled away and swept clean when the job was completed. The payment arrangement was more than satisfactory. The crew was diligent and respectful and did what appears to be an excellent job. The roof looks beautiful and I am so happy every time i look at it. We've had lots of rain but no leaks have been detected so far. I trust that Vinny will take care of any issues that might arise. I enjoyed working with Vinny because of his straighforward manner and his trust in me as a customer. It goes both ways. I plan to hire M & J Contracting again for other upcoming projects.

They treated me fine, and the work was excellent. They are reliable, and they do good work.

They postponed for months, but still promised they'd get to it, then stopped answering calls. My mistake was not adding a "start-by" and "finish-by" dates (and penalties) to the contract.

We are a condo association with a recalcitrant member who is not paying her condo fees. She is a troubled person and we are involved in a legal process between the association and the individual. Our association owns and is responsible for all the exterior on the buildings and the landscaping and other outside items such as a perimeter fence. Our misguided member contracted with contracted with M and J to fix part of the perimeter fence and calk some potential gutter leaks. While she isn't paying her condo fees, if the association felt there was urgent compromise to the fence or the gutters, we would have paid to have these fixed. The member feels that since she isn't paying her condo fees, she is free to fix what she wishes on her building or near her building at her cost. We had noticed M and J evaluating the job and our president called Vinny DiClemente and told him not to come and fix these items as it hadn't been budgeted for nor was it authorized by the association. He came anyway and we explained that this is a condo association and the member had no right nor authorization to fix the items and he was jeopardizing his business standing by performing work without authorization. He insisted he was authorized by the member who signed the contract. He was advised to speak to his attorney regarding condominium law and he said he wasn't going to spend the money. He continued with his work and was provided a letter from the association outlining the law and our policies, yet he continued to do the work. He has left the premises after completing the caulking and fence repair with no authorization. We would not recommend using this individual as he not only doesn't know the law but does not care about the law and was defiant even though he was thoroughly and pleasantly explained to about authorization rights and laws. We will consider follow up legal action.

Initially, Vinny and his crew worked diligently to remove the existing dilapitated porch and removal of debris. Within a week his crew were digging holes for the new footers. But soon after, the progress slowed, in fact, the job was started in February and we finally got the semi-complete project done in August. Because the whole process took so long (literally it took the spring/summer) we just wanted to be able to walk out onto our deck and wanted MJ Contracting gone. Ironically, We were told that the whole project would take 1 month. In addition, the materials used were very cheap and the workmanship of the deck has haunted us since. Our deck is not two years old and we've already had to hire another contractor to repair or finish incomplete work done by MJ Contracting. As of today, our porch still has leaking problems. We would never recommend MJ Contracting for any work in the future. Dissatisfied is an understatement.

Called Mand J and left message, 1 day later Vinny called me back and we spoke about the work, where the house was located, and what I wanted done. Vinny was extremely thorough in asking informing questions. After 1 day Vinny called me back and gave me the entire job from start to finish. What needed to be done, what suggestions he had, and also offered to do some extra work like trim painting and putting a roof over some bays windows that currently have siding shingles at no extra charge. Vinny estimates was $6500 dollars and would not change. New roof, ridge vent, sofit vent around the entire house, new drip edge, and new gutter on backside. He lined up a time for me to call him back 1 week before the job to confirm, and also what shingle color I would like. No deposit necessary, Vinny truly wants the business doesn't need 500-1000 dollars to know your serious. He only requires half of the money before the job starts and the other half when the job is completed, and quot;to my satisfactionand quot; his words. Besides being thorough and accommodating, Vinny was an extremely nice guy and takes pride in his work and business. I will report back once the job is completed, there is no doubt in my mind it will be top notch. Vinnie and his crew finished in 1.5 days. Before I even handed Vinnie a 1st half check his crew already had half the roof stripped. They work fast, efficient and clean. I literally found 1 tiny piece of shingle in the whole yard/bushes. Not one nail on the ground, and the roof looks amazing. True craftsmanship. They take pride in their work and it shows. All hand nailed, and done right. I even spoke to Vinnie about Windows, Front Porch, etc.... He took the time to explain what he would do even though he was there for the roof. Anything done on the outside of my house will be going to Mand J, couldn't even think of using anyone else.

Despite an amazing month of torrential downpours that caused much stopping and starting, Vinnie and Mand J delivered. While the scope of the project grew, in terms of shingle replacement, his price did not. The craftsmanship was first rate, and the speed of execution was as fast as weather would permit. Not only did he do a great job on the single/siding replacement, and painting, and other light carpentry, they did not take short cuts to save money. They used first class materials throughout. Nor did he try to shorten the painting job by using sprayers, a tactic many painters use. Every coat was applied with rollers. Vinnie has a huge pride in his workmanship. Its really nice to see in this day and age. When extra work needed to be done (such as adding an extra coat of solid stain to Southern exposures that get hammered by the Sun), he just did it. The same for fixing some minor roof drainage issues, and even removing some dead wires leading to the older property. He even replaced some vent covers because they did not match on the older unit. Frankly, I'm stunned by how much work he did for the bid he gave us, and how well executed the work was. Were there any downsides? Vinnie is very old school. He has no web site, and communicating with email is not his thing. In fact, I think he gets all of his work from referrals, as people see his work on other properties. His agreements tend to be straightforward and often hand written. Nonetheless, he was always reachable by phone, and always kept his commitments. There are other companies that are more modern and have a smoother marketing presentation. Vinnie and Mand J, however, are the real deal. Highly recommended. Not only would I recommend him, but I intend to keep using him for future work I'm planning for my deck.

Contacted the vendor, who gave us a date to come by and provide an estimate. Didn't show on the date scheduled, but came the next day. Scheduled the project for two weeks later, showed up at 8:30-9:00am that morning, with a crew and was done by mid afternoon. Used top quality material, performed the job timely, and there wasn't a spot of debris left on our property when they were done.Great job, thank you.

The short of it: FANTASTIC. Everyone should have a roof experience like this. When we purchased our house, there was no doubt we had to replace the roof. I always had a stigma that replacing a roof cost $15,000 - $20,000. What did I know - I lived in townhouses previously and never owned a real house! I was talking to a friend about what we needed to do to our house and when I mentioned the roof, he said, and quot;I have a terrific roofer for you.and quot; He whipped out his phone to find the contact information and said: Vinnie DiClemente - 617-851-2670. Vinnie did their roof for $9000 (and they have a bigger house roof than us!) so I was thinking, awesome. I could get this roof perhaps in the $8000s!! My friend explained that they combed through Angie's list and got four quotes and Vinnie was the lowest and did a phenomenal job on their roof. I called three different roofers on a Tuesday and Vinnie was the first one to call back (within a couple of hours). He asked for my house address and said he'd drive by to look at it and measure everything - no need for me to be there. He said that it may take him a couple of days to get back so I anticipated Thursday or Friday I'd get his number. The next day he called back and said $6,900. AMAZING. He also said how beautiful my house was which shows that he knows how to make a homeowner feel good too. : ) Within the next few days I got the other two roofers estimates: $10,100 and $8,400 (which he said he knocked down from $9000 since he was referred to me). The other estimates were from contractors with no presence on Angie's list either! The choice was simple: Mand J Contracting. I called Vinnie the next Tuesday to tell him that I chose to go with his company. He said that I was his fourth roof to do and he anticipated he'd get it started 8 business days out, but was unsure based on the rain we were experiencing. I understood and didn't have a true sense of urgency, so that was just fine with me. He said that he'd call me on Sunday to give me a heads up on the schedule. On Saturday - the day before he said he'd call, he left me a message saying that he could do my roof that Monday and Tuesday - that's two days prior to the original start date with no rain delays!! I called him back on Sunday to confirm and it was a go on Monday. It was to be spotty rain Monday and Tuesday, but it seemed as if it would hold up mid-morning to late afternoon - which it did. I met him at the house and he arrived with his crew of 9 ready to go. This was the first time I met Vinnie face to face and he was just as nice in person as he was on the phone. He explained what his plan would be and I left him to do their work and said I'd be back the next day to pay him the remaining amount (upon satisfaction as he says!). My husband drove by the house that night to check out the work and said that everything was left very tidy. The next day Vinnie called to let me know that they would be done in the early afternoon and that was exactly what happened. I was running over to the house and was a bit distracted when I was writing my check to Vinnie. I handed Vinnie's nephew the check about 20 minutes before the job was to be complete to meet up with another contractor inside my house. Vinnie knocked on my door and told me that I wrote the wrong amount on the check - I accidentally wrote $200 more than I was suppose to. I didn't have my check book with me so he wrote me a check back for $200. Talk about character. My house looks fantastic. It looked beautiful before (a major reason we bought it!), but it's like it has a new hat and the outfit is now complete. Vinnie and his crew did a fantastic job. There was never any stress working with him. No wheeling and dealing which I experienced with one of the other roofers and no overcharging. And they were all so hard working. If you are looking to get a new roof, look no further. Mand J Contracting is it.

Due to rain the work started a little late. Once started Vinny and his crew worked straight for a week. I was always up to speed on what they were doing and if they found any problems. Every decision that the crew had to make was the right one! The house looks amazing and they fixed the rotten spots and insulated the house. It was wonderful.

It was a pleasure doing business with this company. They were easy to deal with. They were honest about what needed to be done and didn't try to runup the job. They showed good attention to detail. They fixed the little things they uncovered when doing the job. Very thorough. They used good quality materials. We were very happy with the workmanship and would not hesitate in recommending this contractor to others. They did a very nice job on the gutters. Rounded roofs are very difficult to deal with and a good number of contractors wouldn't touch them.

Everything went very well and took only 2.5 hrs to complete

Work was fast done right and the property remained clean at all times. Vinny was a pleasure to work with.

Although the job ended up being bigger than either he or I thought it would be, he did not charge me for the extra work but kept to the original contract. The contractor and his crew worked efficiently and cleaned up very well after themselves. I had to be a little flexible on the timing. He had his crew working inside on my job when the weather outside was too cold or snowy to work them outside. But all of the work got done in about three weeks, which was faster than I expected. I feel very comfortable recommening Mand J Contractors as a trustworthy business who will do a high quality job.

They were good and I was happy. They were fast.

I wanted to receive an estimate on some chimney repair and roof repair. I called them yesterday. I wasn't able to get ahold of anybody to talk to, so I had to leave a voicemail. However, nobody has called me back yet. As of 9/13, I still have not heard back.

Very happy. This was excellent work at a very reasonable price. I think his prices tend to be reasonable in part because he manages all aspects of his business himself and does not hire a front office or a sales person. Whatever minor issues that arose, like to-be-expected damage to the peripheral moulding, was handles retrospectively at no additional charge.

Called for appointment to do roof estimate. Spoke to Vinnie and was told he would come out that Friday. Halfway through that Friday, having not heard from anyone, called office number and spoke to receptionist(?). She stated that either she or Vinnie would call back shortly. Never heard back. At this point, I wonder, if they can't even honor the initial appointment, how are they going to be to work with? And this wasn't for some patch work- it was a large job, to replace an entire roof.

My initial impression of Vinny was positive. He seemed easy-going, even to the point of being willing to do the job without a formal contract. This surprised me, but I also appreciated his apparently trusting nature. Since I live in NH, about a two hour drive from the job site, it was difficult for me to get a contract and deposit to him. I thought Vinny and I had agreed that he would do the job on a Thursday, in conjunction with other projects in the area. I told him I could meet him two days later, on Saturday, to give him a check. Thursday came and went, and he didn't do the job, nor did he call. Same thing on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday I left messages for him, but he didn't call back. On Monday I finally reached him. Why hadn't he called me over the weekend? He was "a little indisposed." Why hadn't he done the job as I thought we had agreed to? He decided he wasn't willing to risk doing the work and not getting paid. I told him I wished he had told me that a week ago, so I could have made arrangements to pay him the same day he did the work. We got into a heated discussion that left me frustrated and angry. I am now looking for another roofer to do the job.

Vinny had come weeks earlir to fix my roof. At that time I asked him if he did other things and he gave me a quote to fix siding of an outside wall of my house. He called me about 5 days in advanced before coming to do the job. He showed up in time and completed the job with no mess behind. Could not ask for more.

They were responsive and punctual. They were not very professional and I had to point out few things that they should have done. Their pricing was similar to other quotes.

much better than expected. Vinny came with a crew of 5 people. The job looks good. He charged less than others quoted. It took him a couple of weeks longer to come to do the job but the weather had been terrible as we all know.

Very good experience. Vinny was unable to make initial appointment for an estimate but called and rescheduled (unlike some others). Gave a very reasonable estimate and kept in touch about scheduling job. Showed up as promised with his crew and completed job quickly. Everything was done as promised, including clean up, and he reviewed the work to make sure I was satisfied.

Vinny and his crew did a great job. They were all business and got the job done in less time than expected. The roof looks beautiful and the flashing they put up corrects some oversight from a previous contractor. They showed up when they said they would and the cost was exactly the same as the estimate, no hidden costs. I had compared quotes from 2 other "A" rated roofers on Angies list and they both came in four thousand dollars+ higher using the same materials (from the samples I received from each). Vinny was extremely professional and self sufficient. We didn't need to be home for any of it and it was remarkable to see how much was done when I would get home from work. Overall a great experience.
