I hired Dan to complete an oil to gas boiler conversion and install an indirect hot water heater. Dan was a pleasure to work with from the initial appointment to quote the work throughout the project to completion. We have a single pipe steam system that was connected to an oil boiler with hot water coil that was ~40 years old. We knew we wanted to switch to a gas fired system to start off with and was aware of the additional work that was going to be required in the process (chimney liner, gas line install, hot water update). Starting at the initial Dan showed that he was very knowledgeable about steam systems and walked me through how it should be working and pointed out some issues with how our current system was plumbed. We discussed all options for the boiler and updated hot water system, Dan outlined lifetime, maintenance, amount of water, and associated cost... all the information you need to make a educated decision. Since this was a rather large project for us I got 5 quotes for this work and believed that Dan's work would be the best quality for the money spent. The project took a total of just 3 days and we had hot water available every night - I did not expect this at all. Dan and Chris started early on a Tuesday morning, on day 1 they ran the gas line, setup the new indirect hot water tank and associated circulation loop. Day 2 was a long day, they pulled the old boiler, had the chimney liner installed, installed the new gas boiler, had electrical work completed and had the hot water working before they left. Day 3 they connected all the steam piping, correcting the errors that were there previously, and attached the condensation loop. After the system was installed Dan walked me through how the system works and pointed out the important maintenance tips. A week after the system was installed I received a copy of the paid invoice in the mail with a $50 refund check since we overpaid. How often does that happen? Dan is a knowledgeable professional and a honest, upstanding business man. I will be using him again for all my plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Dan completed all work associated with our conversion from oil to natural gas boiler and hot water.

I worked with Dan to completely replace our heating and hot water systems soon after we bought our house. The existing system was an oil fired steam boiler and gas fired water heater. Both worked but were extremely outdated. The existing system was kept running until the new system could be turned on. I had requested quotes from 3-4 contractors and decided on Cadotte Plumbing and Heating based partially on the reviews on Angie's List, partially on the walk-through I did with him and partially on the quote. His quote was not the least expensive, but his knowledge and skill were what I was willing to pay extra for. At times he was a little hard to get a hold of leading up to the start of work. I attributed this to the demand for his time on the projects he was working on.The work was coupled with obtaining a HEAT loan, which adds a lot of paperwork and overhead to planning out this type of work. Although we started the process in August, we weren't actually able to schedule things until December due to the length of the process. Work started mid-December and completed in January. It took longer than we expected, but this was due to the complexity of the work and some unplanned emergency calls Dan had. Dan and some other folks he works with started by running PEX lines throughout the house for the new Buderus panel radiators we chose. This is not easy work on a 125 year old house and required opening up walls and ceilings in spots. The next phase was setting up the boiler room area for the new side-vent Burnham boiler, pumps, valves, manifolds and water heater. Dan's skill in this area is excellent. He was able to fit all the components in a relatively small area while still making everything accessible for maintenance and monitoring. I am extremely pleased with the final result. One component that didn't go as planned were the air intake and exhaust side- vents. Another employee drilled the holes too large in the side of the house which resulted in having to fabricate an exterior faceplate for each, re-adjusting the pitch so that water wouldn't roll back into the boiler on the exhaust and then sealing things with caulk. The final result is satisfactory. Once the boiler room was complete, Dan and one other employee mounted the panel radiators in each room. We had a set plan of exactly where each was going and the results were almost as expected. One location in the bathroom was not setup the way we had requested. Dan fixed this but had to drill 2 new holes through bathroom tile. Once all the pieces were in place, a boiler test completed and inspection by the city completed, the heat was turned on. Very little adjustment has been needed apart from bleeding air out of the system. Dan used another person to remove the old system and cast iron steam pipes. This was done efficiently and without damage to the house (cast iron radiators are very difficult to remove due to the weight). Overall we are very satisfied with the end result.
Description of Work: Supply and install Burnham Alpine ALP080w-2L02 high efficiency condensing boiler. Supply and install HTP Superstore SSU-45 indirect water heater. Supply and install 8 Buderus panel radiators and one towel warmer. Remove and dispose of existing steam system.

After contacting Daniel Cadotte he researched available boilers and recommended the Lochinvar Knight high efficiency boiler and gave us an estimate of the total cost. On the appointed date, Daniel and one helper arrived to remove the old boiler and begin installation of the new boiler. He had originally estimated the job would take 3 days, but it took four owing to the complexity of this new boiler system. The final cost was within the original quote. Each day the work area was cleaned up and at the end of the job all old equipment and trash was removed. Daniel walked me through the basics of the system and arranged to have the inspector come to pass on the work done. He has always been very responsive, is extremely pleasant to work with, and this job was no exception.
Description of Work: Daniel Cadotte Plumbing replaced our old boiler with a new high efficiency boiler. This involved removal of the old boiler and the external fan used to pull gases produced outside, installing and connecting the new boiler to our 2 zone heating system, and finally, creating a new outlet to the outside that was at least 10 feet away from the water heater outlet. Electrical and finishing work were sub-contracted out.

I contacted this plumber and two others through Angie's List, requesting an estimate on a high-efficiency boiler. Cadotte was the last one to respond by email (I did not provide a phone number, as email is much more efficient for me) and we exchanged a couple emails. But it always took Cadotte a few days to respond, and things moved more quickly with the others. In the end, I never got an estimate from Cadotte, and I've hired another plumber for the job. He may be highly responsive by phone, I don't know.

The Bradford White water heater stopped heating the water. I had some difficulty finding local people who were willing or able to service this brand of water heater. I called Dan in the late afternoon and he was there within an hour or two. He successfully diagnosed that a new thermocouple was needed and replaced it. Later he answered some question I had about re-starting the water heater if we had problems in the future.

Daniel showed up when he said he would and diagnosed the issue immediately. He had to do some digging to get the part for our aging furnace, but once he found it, he was able to take care of the issue. Daniel was friendly and professional throughout the whole experience. He also did a great job of keeping us in the look as he worked to track down the needed part.

If you have a one-pipe steam system, I heartily recommend both the gas conversion and Dan Cadotte Plumbing. Having done some reading about steam systems and being a professional engineer, I understand the issues of steam systems better than most consumers. In my opinion and based on results with my system, Dan understands steam systems well, and repairs or upgrades these systems using the proper techniques and materials. Dan impresses me as conscientious and intelligent, and did the work promptly and punctually. The price was fair, and he delivered exactly what he promised. Thus he earned my unqualified recommendation.
Description of Work: Dan installed a new gas-fired steam boiler in place of my existing oil-fired unit. This price included the boiler, all steam, water and gas plumbing, a new chimney liner, and removal/disposal of the oil-fired unit and oil tank. The price also included follow-up visits to address tuning of the system to accommodate the new fast-heating boiler design.

The install was satisfactory. After I called several plumbers, who just didn't want to do the job, I found Dan at a job site on my street. He has installed these radiators which are described by the importer as, practically a DIY job. It took Dan about 4 hours to install it. We were hoping that since the install did not take very long that the estimate would be adjusted but it was not. We paid approximately $225 a hour or $920 for 4 hours work. So the price was about $75 to $100 higher per hour that one would expect to pay for a plumber. But he did save the day, so I am happy to have found him.

They did the installation same day as the call, which was very helpful since the old one was leaking and had to be disconnected. They called 30 minutes before arrival and came at the beginning of the two hour window. I wasn't present at the installation but the results appear fine. I was happy to see that they properly cemented the exhaust vent into the chimney where it had been previously connected with duct tape. My only complaint is that I was left with some mess: solder splatter, cement splatter, and a small pool of water that damaged some wood I had setting nearby.

Daniel was very responsive to schedule an initial appt. and suggest a solution to our issue. He said he was going to get back to me to follow up and install the make-up air. After that I never heard from him, I had to call him to remind him (said he would get back to me) and then never heard from him. Initially he was good but then seriously declined; not sure I would call him again given he didn't follow up on his word.

Dan gave me quotes on a few different configuration options that we had discussed (standalone water heater, indirect water heater, various options for the hot water zone). While it took a little time to pin down a start date (it was the beginning of the heating season, so he was very busy), once that was done he showed up on time and did an excellent job on the piping and installation of all of this. He even stayed until almost 9 pm the day of the actual boiler replacement to make sure we had heat. He came back to clean the boiler after about two weeks, which is often necessary after a new install, but not always included. He was happy to explain things to this curious homeowner as well, which I appreciated.
Description of Work: In early December 2005, Dan replaced an older (1970s?) steam boiler that was converted ages ago from oil to gas. The steam boiler also had an internal hot water coil, and a hot water zone running of it, which made the job more involved (heat exchanger, circulator pump, etc). He also put in a separate standalone water heater.
