My Norway fir is the tallest tree in our very urban neighborhood, and I was concerned that it might fall on our house or one of our neighbor's houses. Mr. Barrett assessed the tree, and demonstrated to me why he thought it was healthy. He then recommended the insertion of a cable to prevent the two trunks from splitting at the base, and further recommended the separation of the tree from my neighbor's maple. Trumbull and his crew arrived within the window he had given me. They carefully backed their truck down my narrow drive without hitting my neighbor's fence and without touching any of the web of phone and power lines between our houses. My neighbors had given permission for the crew to access their yard; Trumbull did the aerial work on the maple and managed it so that my neighbor's pool didn't get a twig in it. Finally, they cleaned everything up and put flower-pots, etc, exactly where they had been. I am particularly pleased with the consideration shown to my neighbor's property. To top it off, Trumbull charged me $40 less than his estimate!
Description of Work: Trumbull Barrett and his crew inserted a cable in the top of a split-trunk Norway fir of about 75 years old. They also pruned the tree back about 15 feet so that it is no longer overhanging my porch and garage roof, and, most importantly, separated the tree from a Norway maple in my neighbor's yard with which it was inter-growing. They removed some dead wood that was the result of the tree being shaded out by the maple.

Very clean and on time. Gave me an Angies list discount on labor. Trumbull confirmed several weeks in advance what day he would be at the property and he was right on schedule. No problems with anything. Really nice guy too.
Description of Work: Trimmed Maple tree in parking area behind a South end building. Branches were ties into cable and phone lines of the neighbor's property as well as there being a long split on a large branch that had to be removed.

From my initial meeting with Trumbull to assess and estimate the work that needed to be completed through the actual completion of the job, I was impressed with the level of professionalism and competency with which my job was handled. The crew that came the day the work was schedule arrived on time and worked quickly and efficiently until the end of the job. The clean up that was done left my yard as if no work had been done at all. I was very satisfied with this company's performance and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for tree services. A real A+ company and a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Pruned a much neglected Elm tree in our front yard. We anticipate this trimming back of the Elm improves it's overall health and by reducing bulk on the top reduces the risk of limb breakage or other damage. They also removed two trees from the property that were invasive and causing many problems for both our building and the neighbors.

They were extremely responsive, professional and easy to work with. I originally called only to get the stumps ground, but they gave me an itemized estimate to get the additional work done as well. They were available to do the work the next day and I felt the price was fair so we booked them for the entire job. Now my husband will not spend the weekend on a ladder with a chainsaw in hand! I would definitely give them my highest recommendation.
Description of Work: We had a tree (very near the neighbor's house) taken down, several stumps ground (one very large tree stump plus 6 smaller stumps) and a very large load of brush (approximately 9 bushes) removed.

Trumbull responded promptly to my e-mail. Our e-mail exchange was fruitful and his good communication skills in a notoriously difficult medium (e-mail) ensured there were no unanswered questions on the day of the work. We left home in the morning worried that this tree would crush our house and came home to find the tree, and what must have been a mess related to chopping it down, both gone. He was flexible and didn't blink an eye at our request to speak with a neighbor who wanted to take some of the wood for his fireplace. All in all this was as painless as it could be.
Description of Work: Removal of very large diseased tree down to stump and removal of stump from another tree. This included taking away two very large limbs that had already dropped from the diseased tree.

Everything went extremely well, from the initial estimate to the actual work. Despite the fact that the job required bringing a lot of equipment onto our narrow Somerville street, Trumbull and his crew managed it all with due attention to our neighbors and the neighborhood. I should add that Trumbull always communicated promptly (by e-mail). Moreover, he is a very engaging and knowledgeable person. So, we will soon turn to him again after we decide how to fill in some of the gaps we now have as a result of his careful work and in four year's time when we will once again need tree service.
Description of Work: The middle of May, Trumbull Barrett walked us around our property, carefully introducing us to all our trees, both those that would have to go and those that needed attention: pruning and shaping. He gave us an estimate for the work that we considered reasonable, and after consulting with the other people in our six-unit condo building, we decided to ask him to do the work, late in July, that he had recommended be done. Trumbull and his diverse four-person screwed then showed up exactly at the appointed hour (8am) and finished the whole job by 2pm, taking out nine trees and digging out their stumps; cutting back and shaping the remaining fourteen; and cleaning up as they worked.

Trumbull is a consummate professional. All work came in on time, on budget, and there were no surprises. I felt great confidence in his capacity, and never doubted that he would place safety first. It is important to note that this tree was over two stories tall, and the crew did not have the advantage of using a crane for the removal process, due to the location and circumstances. Important note: All tree residue was neatly cleaned up, and the work was done with great efficiency. I would definitely recommend Trumbull's company, especially for tree work in our urban setting.
Description of Work: Trumbull and crew came into a very congested South Boston neighborhood to remove a very tall (and very sick/deteriorated/unstable) tree in the backyard. This was a tricky job, given that the tree was located less than a foot from my neighbor's back deck (we are in row houses).

We highly recommend this organization for tree work. Trumbull knows a lot about the health of trees, but also a lot about how to manage/maintain trees. We also got three estimates for the job and his was by far the most reasonable and thorough.
Description of Work: First, Trumbull came to our house to evaluate the health of a pine tree in our backyard. He gave a very educated analysis of the symptoms of our tree on the spot, but also took a branch off our tree back to the office with him for further research. He then sent weblinks and a further description of the issue (fungal disease) via email and recommended two paths of action (removal and ongoing treatment). We ultimately decided to take down the tree and grind the stump, which Trumbull and his colleagues also did for us. While at our house, the team also pruned a very tangled maple tree and ground another stump. The work was scheduled appropriately, the team showed up on time, and completed the job with the utmost professionalism and high quality. Throughout the process, Trumbull also corresponded clearly through emails, confirming the date, the work, and assuaging our loss of the pine!

Everything went great from start to finish and I would highly recommend this company. First, Trumbull was the only tree service company out of three from Angie's List who returned my call. We initially talked about the work I wanted done, this past winter a lot of branches had broken off leaving a lot of dead, half-broken timber in the trees, I wanted them cleaned up. I was also concerned about a fungus that might be attacking the pines. We made an appointment for Trumbull to see the trees. He arrived on the arranged date on time, assessed the trees and gave me a price on the spot. He also promised to e-mail me information about the fungus on the pine and to check when was the appropriate time to spray. Two days later, Trumbull e-mailed me the information about the fungus and we scheduled the work. Again, on the arranged date, he arrived with his crew and machinery right on time and ready to work. A few hours later, my trees were beautifully pruned, the lilac was removed and the maple was trimmed. We also decided to spray later in the fall. Trumbull and his crew cleaned up the yard and even chipped a large pile of dead branches that had been sitting in the yard since winter. They did a great job and I'm thrilled!
Description of Work: Trumbull trimmed up three pine trees, a small Japanese maple and took down an old lilac tree.

Trumbull was terrific! From answering my initial call at 8:30 pm (when I expected to be greeted by an answering machine), to coming to give an estimate when he said he would, to taking out the shrub, pruning the maple, and taking all of the debris out with him so. He even brought a leaf blower to clean up afterwards. He made the job look easy but managed to remove the entire rootball and stray roots, and was very thorough, professional, polite, and easy to work with.
Description of Work: Trumbull removed a large inkberry shrub from my garden and trimmed off a large branch on a Japanese maple. Removing the inkberry and getting all of the roots out was a fair amount of physical labor. He also scheduled the job on a Sunday afternoon in order to fit me into his busy schedule.

From our initial meeting to the final, and very thorough, clean-up, the entire operation was an unqualified success. Excellent! They were super-tree men! Very professional. They came on time, made sure they could drive the trucks into the yard, and began to work right away. I was able to change which trees I wanted removed midway and Trumbull offered suggestions about which changes made sense. They threw in a couple of small trees for no extra charge. They were done before 5 and had cleaned up the place beautifully plus left us about a half a cord of wood nicely stacked for our fire next year. We already made plans for them to come and remove another tree in winter. They give Angie's list members a 5% discount on all services and also have a winter discount.

Excellent, from start to finish. Trumbull Barrett is friendly, flexible and efficient, as well as being an experienced professional. He was personable and responsive from the first phone call. I was very worried about the possibility of tree limbs falling on my neighbor's house or damaging something in their yard (this happened last time when I just had the trees pruned, by another company). Trumbull was understanding and went way out of his way to ease my worries. I live out of town (the house is currently a rental), so he introduced himself to the neighbors to make sure they were okay with everything. He also checked with them when he was finished to make sure they had no complaints. (And I believe he trimmed a few branches for them too, in thanks for them moving their cars so he could park his truck in front of our house). We arranged the work on short notice, so there wasn't time for the police permit to reserve parking, so we arranged it with my tenants and the neighbors to free the spots he needed. This was a little extra effort on his part, that incidentally saved me some money. Trumbull was the best choice for the job, having given me the most competitive bid, but with his friendliness and patience and flexibility, he was perfect for a worried out-of-town landlord like me. He called me mid-job to let me know how things were progressing and even emailed me pictures afterwards. I recommend him very highly!! I'd give him an A+ if the form allowed it.

Trumbull was very professional throughout this process. He had a great knowledge base and was helpful in making decisions about which trees to remove and which to keep & trim. He came out for an estimate in a very timely manner, then came out again to re-estimate when we decided to do more work. We set a date for the tree work to be done in mid-April and Trumbull and his team were great. They spent 2 days on this project and did an excellent job. Even my neighbors commented on their professionalism and efficiency. We needed to work with some of my neighbors to get access to the trees and Trumbull had the documents prepared to cover any liability - this facilitated the process - and made everything official. My neighbors were sad to see the large tree go (but it was beginning to rot) and to save some of the tree, he made a bench out of the trunk - this my neighbors all love! I was completely satisfied with this work and would readily recommend this company for tree services.
Description of Work: Took down 1 rather large Norway Maple, 8 smaller mid-sized trees, pruned 2 additional large trees. Ground the stumps of 4 of the trees. Removed pile of tree branches (not from this service). Removed all chips/branches trimmed or taken down, except chips and wood we asked to be left.

Trumbell is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about trees. He went to school for trees, is certified, knows the standards, and is more knowledgeable than all of the 3 other companies that I had quote the job. There were 4 Bradford Pears along the alley and 4 Copper Beech trees in a closed in courtyard in the back that needed a great deal of shaping and trimming. I setup a time of 9am on a Saturday morning to have Trumbell quote the job. As the clock struck 9am exactly I heard his truck outside. He quoted the job and even took notice of a bug that one tree had. When it was time to do the job he scheduled it 4 weeks in advance and without me calling to remind him he showed up on the day of the job in the pouring rain without complaint. He completed the job quickly and did a far better job than expected. All trash was removed without the slightest damage to the gardens below. Due to the driving rain Trumbell did not feel comfortable treating the tree with the bug or completing the fertilization of the trees. Instead he recommended waiting 2-3 days for the ground to dry out and then completing the work. He showed up on Sat without delay and finished the fertilization and bug treatment as promised. Trumbell works hard and has the business ethics of a man interested in a long lasting relationship with his clients. His prices are very reasonable and the service is second to none. From here on out I will use no one else but Trumbell.
Description of Work: We had 8 trees approx. 30-40ft in height that needed to be trimmed away from the house in a crowded and tight area of South Boston. 4 trees needed significant reconstruction in order to make sure that they lasted for the long haul and one tree had some sort of bug growing on it. Trumbell did all the work from start to finish and with a great sense of ethics and workmanship. I wish all my vendor experiences were like what I had with Barrett Tree Service.

Trumbull called about an hour before and said he would arrive about 1/2 hour early. He worked very safely and took care to only prune what was needed for house clearance and the health of the tree. He moved the patio furniture out of the way, and cleaned up all the wood splinters and debris in the yard and on the deck. I asked him to confirm while he was above the roof line that my gutter was clogged. He not only verified that for me, he also attempted to blow some of the debris out that had been there since the leaves fell in the fall. He was not working over the gutter and did not contribute to its contents, so I thought that was very considerate. He also blew off any debris that fell on my neighbors low roof. He does bring a good sized truck and wood chipper; parking/driveway space is needed. I was very satisfied with the results. We also had a discussion about the overall health of my tree and when it will need pruning again.
Description of Work: Received an estimate in an email after Trumbull came to the house to see the tree. He offered several dates for us to choose from and provided us with an Angie's List discount price as promised on his link. He also provided proof of insurance ahead of time. He trimmed the upper branches of the tree and cleared branches near our house and our neighbors. He left strategic branches to give us deck privacy in the summer from our neighbor's upstairs windows. He moved patio furniture out of the way, cleaned up all branches and wood pieces and used a leaf blower to clear any paved areas nearby. There was the possibility that parking permits were going to be needed for his truck and chipper. We discussed this and came to a mutual agreement with regards to the city of Cambridge's requirements.

I called on Wednesday and he was able to come out on Friday morning to give an estimate. I wasn't able to be there in the afternoon, but he was willing to come back and do the work and stop by later for a check. He did the work for what he estimated and no sign was left of the tree removal, other than the obvious absence of the trees. I would use Barrett Tree Service again without hesitation and wholeheartedly recommend him.
Description of Work: A large trunk (one story high) which had been used by the previous owners as a laundry pole, but was severely rotted was removed along with two "volunteer" trees which had grown up around the dead tree. It was in a tight space, bordered on two sides by sheds, another by a wire fence and near a lilac bush I wanted to keep.
