Trumbull Barrett was exceptionally nice and professional throughout the process, making the whole experience a pleasure. He arrived on schedule for making an estimate, scheduled the project right away, came on schedule to do the job, and cleaned up magnificently. I give him the highest rating.
Description of Work: A huge dead elm tree was removed, a crab apple tree was removed, one trunk of a mulberry tree was removed and the rest of the tree was drastically cut back, another crab apple tree and two dogwoods were dramatically pruned, and a stump was ground.

Trumbull and his crew are the best in the business. He was responsive from the moment I called and gave us advice that was right on the mark. He pointed out that seemingly "healthy" trees were in fact dying and could pose a hazard. They arrived on time and worked until nightfall to get the job done. He showed us how those "healthy" trees that he cut down were actually rotting from the inside! I rarely feel good about working contractors, but I was completely as ease with Barrett Tree Service East. They did a thorough, professional job and excellent cleanup. Plus, they were great guys and it was so refreshing not to have to deal with contractor 'attitude.'
Description of Work: Removed seven or eight trees of various sizes (including very large ones).

Trumbull came over to see the trees and give an estimate. He was exactly on time (can't say that about any of the other tree services from which I got estimates) and gave the estimate on the spot. His estimate was tied with one other for the lowest. I hired him because of his punctuality and because it was obvious from just a few minutes talking to him that he cares about the trees he works on and about doing a good job. At one point while I was showing him which trees to remove I pointed at a large oak. I said that I wanted it pruned. Trumbull told me that he was relieved that I didn't ask him to remove it, because it's a beautiful tree and he wouldn't want to cut it down. We arranged a date and Trumbull and a crew of four arrived on schedule. They worked hard, well into darkness on the second day. I was impressed by how much fun they appeared to be having. They would cheer each other on as they brought the trees down. They were also very polite and friendly to our kids as they watched them work. They removed all of the trees I requested, most of which were very large and close to the house, without damaging anything. They cleaned everything up (the yard was much cleaner when they finished than it had been when they started). They even cleaned up the stump grindings and filled the holes, which no other service I talked to does. We were very happy with the work Trumbull and his crew did and we will be calling them whenever we need tree work done.
Description of Work: Removed six large trees and several smaller trees. Pruned a large oak. Ground stumps.

Professional from start to finish. Trumbull came out to give an estimate and I scheduled the work for some later date. Then things got complicated as we tried to work with an uncooperative neighbor (the owner of the trees), but Trumbull was very responsive using e-mail & phone, provided paperwork and explained the work to the neighbor who eventually agreed to it. We also scheduled additional work for another neighbor at the same time. Everything went well, the crew was very organized and safe. The trees look great and the site was left very clean.

Turnbull and his crew were punctual and the job was carried out efficiently. Since the tree is very close to the house, they took great care in lowering the thinned branches. The clean up was well done. They also dealt very professionally with the on-looking neighbors - one who would cut all trees down given the chance, and one who would cut none!

Arrived on time, were very easy to work with, and cleaned up all the debris. They even offered to haul off a pile of old rose branches that had been left in the back yard for no extra charge.

The tree fell on a Friday night. I got in touch with Turnbull that same evening. He came right away Saturday to give me an estimate, then he came back Monday to do the job! Talk about awesome service! He's a great guy, very friendly, smart, polite, helpful, hard-working. They worked very diligently and got it all taken care of in under 3 hours. I highly recommend his services.
Description of Work: A 40-50' tree fell from a neighbor's yard into mine after a storm. Turnbull (the owner) came with one other to chop it up and dispose of it. It was bocking my whole yard and driveway and fell partially on my garage.

The guys showed up exactly at 8am as promised. There was a 3 man crew, one to climb and cut, one to direct and capture the limbs, and one to haul the wood away to the grinder out on the street (about 100 ft away) It was a very hot day. The guys worked methodically planning each cut and guiding each piece down with a rope. They complimented themselves as each piece glided down to the ground to exactly the desired spot. It was really nice to have such good energy considering it was sort of traumatic to the whole neighborhood to have this big old giant tree go. In fact, these guys really enjoy trees - they talked about their weekend camping trips while they ate lunch. At one point they ran into some nails inside the tree but they remained good natured despite 100 degree temps and having to sharpen the saw repeatedly. They even cut up some branches for one of my neighbors to use in his wood stove. That was beyond the call of duty.
Description of Work: A very large old diseased red maple was removed from my yard. My house is only accessible by foot in a super dense neighborhood so they had to climb the tree to cut it down. The tree overhung 4 yards and could have fallen on as many as 6 houses so care was required. Trumbull Barrett's bid was just a tiny amount higher than the others. I chose him because of his stellar Angies List reports and I was not sorry. Finding him was worth the price of my subscription.

Trumbull Barrett responded to my afternoon call for an estimate that evening and arranged to meet 2 days later. Absolutely prompt for estimate. We were getting squirrels in our attic from an overhanging limb, and neighbor's roof was being encroached upon as well. Trumbull communicated well and patiently which limbs he could and could not (being concerned for overall health of tree) remove to satisfy additional unnecessary cosmetic desires on ours and neighbor's parts. He also answered questions about our hemlocks and Norway Spruce while he was there. Confirmed our appt. day before job, arrived promptly day of job with 1 efficient helper and a bucket truck. Using neighbor's drive for access, they elegantly maneuvered bucket, saws, and large limbs within a very tight space. Chipper truck arrived at job's end and several men with rakes & leafblowers removed all evidence they'd been there. I don't expect working with contractors to be painless; much to my surprise, this was just downright pleasant. He was even nice to our cat.
Description of Work: Removed 7" dia. x 15-20' branch overhanging roof from red maple sited between 2 houses, approx. 20' apart. Trimmed tips of remaining limbs, lifting canopy to 8' above both roofs.

Trumbull came out promptly to look at the tree and offer a quote. He communicated well and was able to schedule me fairly quickly for the job. The crew arrived on time, was extremely courteous, and did a great job with clean up. My only complaint is that they knocked a piece of gutter off of the house and didn't put it back, but it was a minor issue. They also did a great job of keeping the neighbors yards clean as this tree was at the corner for four properties.

The initial appointment was scheduled with one email. Trumball arrived on time and consulted with us and was sensitive to our love for the trees. He had alternative suggestions for the situation but in the end we all agreed that removal was the best course of action. He gave us an immediate verbal estimate that he confirmed via a formal document sent to us via email. Once we agreed to have him do the work, we scheduled a day and his crew arrived promptly on that morning. They worked tirelessly and in a word they are pros who know what they are doing and are respectful of the neighbors. This was not an easy job given the size of the entry point, cable wires and proximity to other buildings. We couldn't be more pleased with the results and highly recommend them. See our photos for more detail.
Description of Work: We had three trees removed from our backyard in very tight quarters in Allston. We loved the trees but they had grown to a size that was on the verge or being dangerous as they were leaning to and fro over roofs and our neighbors' yards. They cut down the trees, chipped the remains and ground the stumps.

The five trees in my small yard were out of control and in need of professional attention. I selected Barrett Tree Service based on the excellent reviews I read about the company on Angie's List. Trumbull (Barrett) returned my call promptly and arrived at the agreed time to look at the work. He provided me with an estimate on the spot...the price appeared to me to be on the high side, but I decided to have him do the work anyway. Trumbull and his assistant arrived a little early on the date that the work was scheduled. They did a wonderful job pruning and shaping my trees...I couldn't be happier with the quality of the work. They had all of the necessary equipment & tools to do the work; explained what they were doing; were very courteous & professional; and left my yard and patio clean.

We found Barrett Tree Service through Angie's list. I contacted Trumbull Barrett by phone (left message) and email. He responded promptly (within a business day) to our request and set an appointment to review the work. We asked him to give us an estimate to remove a large maple tree (approximately 40 inch diameter) in our front yard with branches overhanging both the service connections to the house and the street power and communication services. My wife and I interviewed him together and his discussion was polite, informative and direct. His estimate was fair and he scheduled the work before he left. The crew arrived as scheduled and each member of the team introduced themselves. They worked hard and kept their work site clean. We were very impressed with their attention to detail, safety and care in protecting everything in the lawn and nearby borders. They removed all the wood and stump and filled the nearly foot deep hole with dirt. It took all day with four people to complete the task. Trumbull and his team are completely professional, their work is of very high quality and we strongly recommend them.

Trumbull Barrett, the owner, responded very quickly to my initial email and came out in person to look at the job. His initial price included working with other property owners; we saved some money by doing that ourselves. We had to book 8 weeks in advance, but Trumbull and his crew showed up exactly on time, were friendly, professional, and got everything done -- including cleanup -- ahead of schedule. His price was in the sweet spot between one guy with a crane, and a larger company charging significantly more for less work with less and less timely communication. We thought these guys were GREAT and plan to hire them again.

Trumbull was an absolute delight to work with. He came precisely on time both when he gave us his estimate and to do the work. He brought three other men with him to do the work, and introduced each of them by name (a novel experience for me). They completed the job while I was at work. Their clean-up was meticulous. No evidence of the project remained when they were finished.

Overall, it was an excellent experience. Before the Job: Two things stood out: Trumbull had his insurance company send over the insurance papers covering this particular job and the fact that his quote stated that all payments were due at the completion of the job. The reason the latter was important to me was because I read other reviews where the job performed was not the job agreed upon. In that situation, the homeowner had already put down a significant down payment and could not recoup that. Knowing that my entire payment could be paid at the end of the job provided me more confidence in the company. On the day of the job: Trumbull and his team (4 total), showed up right on time. We had agreed that I would bring the brush to my driveway to save on cost. Although I was unable to bring all of the brush to the driveway (there was a lot) , Trumbull just had his team help out with no increase in cost. I took the day off from work to watch as I was concerned about the large declining cherry falling onto the neighbor's yard. However, Trumbull's team used some very interesting techniques and at no time did I feel that anything was in danger of being damaged because of falling trees. Trumbulls team used the stump grinder to remove some roots that could have been easily missed and they always raked and cleaned up areas they worked on. When I saw this, I felt that this company does not cut corners and takes pride in their work.
Description of Work: I used Barrett Tree Service to cut down and stump grind a 5 leader maple, a 16" diameter declining cherry, stump grind a bunch of small trees that I cut down, chip brush a bunch of smaller trees, crown raise a couple of maples next to the house to provide 8-10 feet clearance.

The whole process was both highly professional and extremely friendly: from the advice about how to fill in the gaps on our property, to the tree-shopping trip to Weston Nurseries, to the taking down of an unwell red pine and the planting of the four Hatfield yews, the Japanese yew, and the Japanese Stewartia. Throughout the planning and the execution of the work, we were in e-mail contact, all of it prompt and informative. The work was done carefully, neatly, and quickly. We will certainly use Barrett Tree Service East again as the need arises, for more pruning down the line, for example.
Description of Work: Early in April, Trumbull Barrett came to our property to advise us on what to plant on our grounds, where he had done extensive pruning and clearing late in July 2008 -- for more information, see the report on that work. Then on Earth Day (22 April), Barrett and I went to Weston Nurseries of Hopkinton to pick out several trees, after which we scheduled their planting for 8 May. He later provided an estimate and confirmed the 8 May date for the work. On that day, at the appointed time (830a), two of Barrett's workers arrived and proceeded to take out a tree and to then plant the six trees that we had ordered from Weston Nurseries. By 12 noon, the work was done and the crew was on its way to the next job.

I contacted Barrett for a quote after reading the reviews on his company on Angie's List. He was very prompt in setting up an appointment to see the trees I wanted removed. He arrived as planned and provided a verbal quote on the spot and followed up with a written quote via email. His quote wasn't the highest or lowest. It felt very reasonable given the work I was asking for. I scheduled a day for the work with him and then asked that he provide me copies of his insurance for liability and workers comp. I felt this was important given the number of things that could go wrong with taking down 2 very tall, large trees next to my house and my neighbor's storage shed. He complied with my request. Within a few days I had copies of his Certificate of Liability and Certificate of Insurance. I called both companies and received raving reviews about Barrett Tree Service East (regarding the insurance) and his work ethic. Both insurance agents said they wished all their tree companies operated as professionally and dilligently as Barrett Tree Serviee East. Trumball and one of his team members arrived promptly on the day scheduled and spent the entire day from 8am - 5pm carefully removing my two trees piece by very large piece. I was even surprised by the way they laid down tarps on my lawn to cut the big chunks of tree trunk into smaller pieces. The care they took with my lawn far exceeded my expectations, given all the negative comments I read in other reviews of tree companies. Trumball and his team raked my yard afterwards and took away nearly all the debris from the trees. This company did a great job with removing my two trees, grinding down the stumps, and cleaning up the site. I would hire them again without any reservations and recommend them to my neighbors.
