Services we offer
Total tree & shrub care performed by Certified Arborists: tree preservation, pruning, cabling & bracing, tree removal and stump grinding; tree and plant health care services, including insect & disease management and soil amendments. We also plant individual trees.
The removal team was fantastic, especially considering the tight restrictions of my rowhouse patio. They couldn't use a lift, but had to climb the tree and were very careful lowering thepieces down. My neighbors were also thrilled with how little debris there was is their patios. My only recommendation is to communicate with the company via phone. They do notrespond quickly to emails.
Description of Work: Barrett removed an ~30' spruce tree from my patio.

A person came out to look at what needed to be done and discuss the work. Then the company emailed me with a date to complete the work. They came on time and did a very good job.
Description of Work: Significantly trimmed two big trees and one small one. Cleaned up so that the grounds looked better than before the job.

Trumbull responded right away to our initial phone call. Came out to take a look very soon after that and immediately gave a rough estimate. Was extremely helpful in advising about what should be done. (We were looking to clear a lot out to allow us to do some new landscaping). Soon after,we received the written estimate and we then scheduled. It was a good turnaround time for scheduling. HIs crew was terrific; the "foreman" Alden walked me through all the details of what would be done, confirming the work. Once or twice during the work which was 4 men working all day, he checked in to make sure about a couple of things. In short, everything was terrific.
Description of Work: Took down and removed 4 bunches of dead shrubs, ground stumps and all apparent surface roots 4-6 inches below soil on one side of house. Grindings were backfilled into holes and excess removed to grade. Trimmed 2 trees to provide clearance off side of house and roof. Trimmed hedge of yews to provide path clearance, tapering. In backyard:Took down and removed 3 trees (4' and 3' diameter trees). Cleaned up a hillside, cutting and removing all that was cleared and draked. Took down and removed shrubs and 2 more trees (5" and 10" diameter). Ground stumps and all apparent surface toots 4-6" below soil grade, grindings backfilled into hold and excess removed to grade. On other side of house: crown reduced 10" diameter tree by reducing longer limbs by 3 - 4'; shaped. Crown reduced row of rhododendron down to 6' tall. Crown reduced tree y 3-4', cleaned. Installed cable in 24" diameter maple to reduce risk of failure.

Trumbull Barrett estimated the job and supervised the work. The crew came on the appointed day even though there were two feet of snow on the ground. Dug [with some help from me and my snowblower], 200 plus feet of paths through the snow to access the trees, sent three climbers up into the two trees, worked until after 8:00 PM using headlamps after dark, and completed the job as promised for the agreed price. Without question the most satisfactory work I have had done on my property in 35 years of ownership.
Description of Work: The heart of the job was to take down and remove a very large, mostly dead, elm tree which was in a location which could not be reached by either a crane or a bucket truck. Also had a medium size, partially rotted ash removed and a pin oak, blue spruce and overgrown arborvitae pruned. Two companies had declined to bid on the job because of the difficulty and two other large companies had given estimates upwards of $4000 for less work than we finally had done.

Just great. Ken Greeno did the initial site visit and proposal. We found him to be a good communicator and very sensitive to understanding our needs. He made another visit later to estimate some additional work we decided to add. We went back and forth a few times to fine tune the scope of work. All the communication was clear. The work itself couldn't have gone better. We interacted with Ken and another crew member, Alden, who also proved to be an able communicator and quite responsive to our needs and questions. They and the rest of the crew did a great job. We are very pleased with the quality of the work and feel we got very good value for our money. We would recommend Barrett without any reservation.

We put them through a bit of a grind figuring out what part to bill to me versus my neighbor, and things slowed down a bit because of their hurricane related work. Trumbull and Ken Greeno really know their stuff and were great helping us understand how we could trim yet keep the trees helpful. They always showed up on time. Trubull's cousin's work crew was very professional and did a great job amongst the power lines and other urban distractions. They cleaned up well. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We have two large trees in our small (we live in Charlestown) back patio which had grown branches over neighboring parking spaces. So my neighbor and I split the cost of getting the trees trimmed back and dead branches thinned. It was done in a tight urban environment.

Wow! Our condominium is so pleased with our experience. We highly recommend Barrett Tree Service. They delivered A++ service when we really needed it. A large tree in our driveway fell during tropical storm Irene. When it fell, it ripped our power lines off the house, crushed our fence, totaled a car, and landed on part of the house (fortunately not damaging the interior). The way it fell, the tree blocked us in to our driveway. Our only access to the street was climbing over this big tree (quite difficult with a 14 month old)! The city had taken away the limbs that blocked the road and cut the power lines. Nothing else could be done until the tree was removed. I called Barrett Tree Services on Sunday afternoon (during tropical storm Irene) and left a message inquiring about their tree removal services. They returned my call promptly Monday morning. I explained our need for tree removal. Barrett Tree Service was incredibly responsive. They had a crew in the area, so they took our address down and drove over to assess the situation. An hour later, I got a phone call with an estimate. The cost would be $1000, and the best news of all was that they could remove the tree that same afternoon! (With our $25 angie's list coupon, the total cost came to $975.) I hired them on the spot and gave them the green light to proceed with the work. Within an hour they had a crew at our condo removing the tree. It required some delicate work. Tree branches were entangled in wires, part of the tree was across a car with sharp metal and broken glass, part of it was on our roof and gutter system, branches and limbs were pressed up against windows, and part of the tree trunk lay across shards of broken fence with nails sticking out of it. We were so impressed by the crew's attention to detail and their careful work. They were incredibly polite and professional. They took care not to damage anything (and not cause further damage to anything), and they cleaned up all the tree debris. They also kept us very well informed during each step of the removal process. Once they cleared the branches and chipped what they could, they explained another crew would be by shortly to deal with the big logs. Sure enough, they came by to haul those away. They also helped us address concerns about the remaining tree stump and root system in our driveway. Another really impressive note was that a member of their sales team came by and introduced himself during the tree removal to check up on things and make sure we were satisfied with their service. We received an e-mail receipt so we could easily forward the bill on to our insurance company. They really made our day during an otherwise stressful time. A big thank you to your entire crew for their hard work and great service!

An estimate appointment was scheduled and the estimator was knowledgeable and helpful. A detailed estimate with itemized work was promptly provided. A crew of 3 gentlemen arrived on-time at 7:30am. They went over the job with me and went right to work. They were extremely efficient, professional and polite. My kids enjoyed watching them climb the trees and very carefully lower the heavier limbs to the ground. The whole job including clean up was less than 2 hours and they cleaned as they went. I am difficult to please when it comes to cleaning and I was very happy. I would absolutely use their services again, if needed.
Description of Work: I had a fairly small job for Barrett, removal of 6 to7 tree limbs, some fairly large. All the branches were high up with no accessibility for trucks. I have a shared driveway and the access in is about 9 feet wide. So I needed tree service with folks who could climb trees without the aid of a bucket truck.

They took great care in their preparation and made sure that they put pads underneath their bucket truck. The men were quite friendly and extremely knowledgeable about their work. They cleaned up my yard as well as they could. The yard looks worlds better and the sun is shining in.I am extremely happy with their work and can vouch for them. This is probably the best tree company in Boston.I would challenge anyone to be as good as these guys. I am very impressed and I go by what I see. First they went to the neighbor's yard behind me and pruned from that side. Next they came back over to my side and took down the sugar maple. While he continued to prune the largest silver maple, the other guys were sectioning the felled tree and grinding the branches and logs into mulch. He then cut off the problematic section from the second silver maple and continued to prune the tree. Lastly he put up the cable to reinforce a hollowed trunk from the last double trunked silver maple. In doing so, he saved a tree swing that the neighbor was adamant needed to remain. Their work was exceptional and grade A.
Description of Work: Trumbull, the owner of the company was professional and very amiable. He gave me a quote of $1945 for the following work, which his men performed extremely well. 1. They pruned a huge double trunk silver maple. 2. They took down a large sugar maple tree efficiently in sections. 3. They pruned another silver maple and took off a section of the tree that was effecting another neighbor's house. 4. They put a cable between the double trunks of the last silver maple tree to reinforce it.

Trumball returned my call, got my information, then went out to view the property. He then gave me an estimate of $900 for the job that would also include removal of some Maples. Since I've never had this done before I decided to get multiple estimates to determine if his price was fair. I quickly discovered that the price was a great price. So I got on his schedule. The job was done while I was at work, so I've actually never met Trumball in person. I saw the work afterwards, and have to say they did a great job removing the tree and leaving the backyard looking clean, open, safe, and inviting. Thanks.

Excellent service, Trumbull promptly returned my calls, set up a time to survey the job. I appreciate him spending time with me to discuss the options. Quickly emailed the quotes. We signed on and he got us the insurance verification forms, scheduled a time and they did the work. on the work day they showed up promptly, secured proper police detail and were quite meticulous in there work. Things look great now and we have a sunnier house and patio, and more comfort around our big oak trees being okay in a heavy storm. You can trust this tree company!!!

I was pleased with the responsiveness of the quote for the removal of the four trees. One of the three companies, from which I requested bids, did not bid after visiting the property, even after several calls. Upon accepting the bid of the Barrett Tree Service, we set a date for the work. Barrett Tree Service arrived at the time agreed upon with a crew large enough to complete the job in one day. The work was performed very professionally. They knew what they were doing and moved intentionally through the job. They moved and replaced flag stones that could have been damaged. They cleaned up thoroughly and left the yard looking good. The crew was cheerful and polite. The cost of the work matched the estimate. I was very impressed and pleased with the work that they performed.
Description of Work: The job involved the removal of 4 trees: a mature 24" oak tree weakened by age and damage; a 12" oak hanging over the street; a mature 24" pine tree within 10' and leaning toward my house; and a mature 24" pine tree with a vertical crack and evidence of carpenter ant activity. The oak wood greater than 6" was left for me to cut and split for firewood. The large pines were completely removed.

Trumbull came over about a month before and walked the property with me describing in detail what services he could provide and what he recommended for my yard. He gave me a very fair estimate and I booked him immediately. His crew showed up on time, worked hard and fast, and cleaned up all the branches and debris they had cut down. They were able to use their bucket truck to navigate into some of the trees while at the same time other guys were scaling to the tops of trees thinning out our huge maple trees, it was pretty impressive to watch. I highly recommend Trumbull and all of the guys at Barrett Tree Service.

Description of Work: Haven't done the work yet, since tree pruning is best done in the winter. Seems very knowledgeable and professional. I got them off of Angie’s List. I actually love the guy. He’s wonderful. I’ve called him on other occasions too. He did a great job on the bed and they are doing really well. I thought I had a problem with the tree when they put up new light poles. I was very concerned about that and he came out and looked at the tree and said that it was fine. He didn’t charge me for that. He’s awfully good that way. The price is very reasonable. He’s very responsive. I would use him again in the future.

We have a corner lot with lots of volunteer trees, some obvioulsy dead trees, and a couple of HUGE tree limbs either touching our house or very close, but they were on the neighbor's property. T. Barrett walked around our lot and told us which trees were dead, diseased or otherwise should go. He also offered to clear away a long and heavy tree limb/log (approx 6 feet) that had been taken down and never removed... We agreed on a date, but I had to reschedule. He was very accommodating. The crew arrived as scheduled. We reviewed the plans, and I asked a few questions about what trees might be good to plant. They are really knoweldgeable and kind. I was not able to watch, but neighbors told me they worked long and hard, and thankfully did not do anything to disturb the neighbors on whose property the big limbs were growing. I came home to find a note saying that they had to replant two of my bushes and that I should please water them. Very considerate. Overall, they did more than I hoped would get done, provided good expert advice and cleaned up beautifully. My neighbors across the street have called them twice since, to advise on a beetle infestation, and get estimate for clearing trees. I would use them again anytime.
Description of Work: Cut down ~8 smaller trees on property. Removed two very large (20" diamter) tree limbs (over/touching our house but on neighbor's property). Trimmed small tree limbs that were touching the house. Removed all debris (except stumps, of course.)

Trumbull was very responsive and helpful during our initial consultation and answered our follow-up queries promptly. The crew arrived on time, worked very efficiently, and left the site clean. We are highly satisfied with the work they did. We didn't ask for other bids but we feel that their price is fair for the excellent work that they do. They seem to have a thriving business so you may need to schedule jobs ahead of time but the timing worked perfectly for us.

After we got over the sticker shock ($3200!), we went with Barrett over a slightly less expensive tree service because of the knowledgeable consultation we had with Trumball Barrett and his overwhelmingly positive reviews on Angie's List. On removal day, a crew of 5 men (unexpectedly, Trumball wasn't there) showed up with a crane, a cherry picker, a wood chipper and a truck to haul away the larger logs. We couldn't be more pleased with their work, especially when working in such a small area. Each limb was secured before removed and lowered with no damage to our house or property. They ground down the stump (which some tree services won't do), cleared the yard of excess debris and did not leave until the job was done (after 11 hours). When we consider how extensive the job was and how very well Barrett Tree Service executed it, our $3200 was very well spent. We highly recommend them.

Description of Work: Trumbull Barrett and his crew have performed tree service for us on several occasions in the past two years including: removal and thinning of branches (to enhance the health of the tree and prevent limbs from falling down onto our property), removal of scrub trees whose roots would damage a rock wall, and spraying of fruit trees for caterpillars.

The Barrett crew showed up right on time just before 8 AM. It was a large crew of 8 workers with a convoy of trucks loaded with heavy duty equipment. They quickly set to work positioning the trucks and cones on the street. They immediately set to work, bringing the equipment around the house. My wife went out to ask some questions and voice some concerns regarding new garden plantings that she had recently done. She was impressed by the professionalism of the crew and the crew chief, who promised her that nothing would be damaged, and if need be, they would move the plantings out of the way, then replant them when they were done. And they did! incredible. On their own, they noticed that our driveway was new, less than a year old, so they did not back the heavy equipment onto it, instead moving large section of tree around it and out to the street. I have rarely seen such a focus on customer satisfaction. Right from the start, it was easy to tell that these were experts. They roped up the trees and headed to the top, taking the trees down a small section at a time with precision. These trees hung well out over our neighbors property and structures, the main reason we wanted them down. At no time was there a concern with branches or sections falling onto the neighbors property. They worked pretty much the entire day, with normal breaks and lunch. By the end, it looked like I had gained another 50% to my backyard! Every bit of the "forest" that was the back section of my yard was completely cleaned and cleared. I couldn't be happier with the results. The neighbors have already been thanking us for having the work done and commenting to us on the quality of the work. My wife did request that some of the smaller branches be left behind for a project that she has in mind, and they stacked them very neatly for us under the patio deck. My wife has been posting recommendations of their service in various forums since yesterday. I am very happy to be able to post my own high recommendation here for Barrett's tree service. Excellent, reasonably priced, professional work!
Description of Work: Two large pine trees removed, several smaller trees removed, multiple large fallen limbs from the winter storms removed. All removed from the backyard.
