Ken Greeno was professional, prompt, informative and friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. During the initial meeting, we addressed the pruning, poor condition of the cherry tree and winter moth. He was very knowledgeable but why we decided to go with Barrett was how much Ken was willing to share his insights and knowledge. He wasn't interested in just coming in a getting the job done, but really educating me on how best to care for the trees we have. He even pruned the azaelea bush right on the spot and taught me how to read the plant, which branches to be cut, how to approach the task and how to care for it in the future. As we walked around our property, he pointed out the spider mites that we had on our evergreen, taught me how to check for them and how to treat them (this task was not billed by Barrett, Ken simply saw a tree that needed care and showed me what needed to be done). When I had a concern regarding the spraying of the winter moth, Ken personally called, left three messages until he got a hold of me to address my concerns. He answered all the questions that I had and explained the methodology behind their scheduling. I really appreciated that level of customer service. Today Ken came to prune the trees and treat the cherry tree. I was interested in learning how the pruning is done and he was great at explaining that the steps that he takes to prune and the different approach he takes to each of the trees- it was exactly what I was looking for and now I am so much more informed about the specific tress that I have. He answered a ton of questions that I had and was so patient and kind as he did his job. We worked together to shape the Rose of Sharon and he pointed out why he was doing each step.It was fun to see the tree take shape and look healthier. Ken was friendly, knowledgeable, fun to work with and a great teacher explaining the thought behind the process. I feel so much more knowledgeable about the trees we have, our garden looks fabulous and I had a great experience with Ken. If you are looking for great craftsmanship, care, customer service and highly rated company, go with Barrett.

I found them on Angie's List. They did an excellent job and were very professional. They cleaned up the job completely. They even did some things that weren't on the contract. They are an excellent company.

. ClExcellent experience. Mr. Barrett was punctual and extremely knowledgeable when he came for the estimate. Clear awareness of the kind of trees, even in winter, and what kind of work was appropriate. (We live in a heavily wooded lot, so iit was important to prioritize the work, can trim every dead branch!) Coordinated schedule to same day as neighbor, for a reduction in fee. Day of work, the crew was here punctually. All workers were courteous and skilled. Some of pruning was not in range of the cherry picker, not a problem, they went up the trees with a rope. Mr. Barrett himself was part of the crew, actively helping with the work. Good safety policy and equipment.

Barett Tree was the most affordable of the estimates we received. The team arrived promptly to do the work and made it look so easy. They were courteous and professional at every stage of the process. I would definitely use them again.

Excellent customer service from start to finish! Trumbull Barrett was the only one of many companies to return my phone call after the October 2011 snow storm; even though his company was swamped with business, he called back to say that he had received my message and would be in touch again to schedule a quote. I truly appreciated his response and it was indicative of the level of service he provided throughout. He personally came out to do the quote and spent several hours explaining his thoughts about the work we needed on the trees and plants all around our property. He was very patient and thorough. The work was scheduled for several months out and the crew arrived promptly on the work day. They worked efficiently and safely, particularly with the removal of two large trees that were very close to the house. We are happy with the work and will continue to use Barrett for future tree/plant care needs.

Crew showed up exactly on schedule and performed work as agreed. Cleaned everything up and removed it (including lots of downed limbs left from October's snowstorm). Very professional. We are very pleased and would highly recommend.

These guys are real pros! I can totally understand why they good good ratings and awards. They are clean, fast, and thorough. They always do more than what was asked for (like removing fallen branches in the vicinity and organizing rocks neatly when they are in the way of stump removal). I thought removal of the large Catalpa stump was going to be a challenge. Maybe it was, but these guys made it look easy. Plus it was always a pleasure working with Ken (does the estimates), Alden (the foreman), and the rest of the crew (on site and office). Sometimes Trumbull (the owner) comes to help out. Of my 3 neighbors, one of them complimented me, another used their services after I did, and another are supposedly calling on them to help out with their needs. If I had one gripe, it would be that it might take a bit of lead time to schedule their service, but that's probably because they are so good and are in demand. In any case, they are worth the wait. The price was extremely reasonable for the work done.

They were very good and knowledgeable. They did what they said they were going to do when they said they would do it. I was very happy with the work they did.

To keep costs down, I only required the trees to be felled, clean up would be my responsibility. I went with Barretts East due to cost. The scheduled day was very snowy/icy/rainy so I did not expect them to come, however right on time they were. They even helped shovel some of the driveway to get the truck in easier. Much of the work was routine, but the 45ft ash was inaccessible with the truck so climbing was required...no small feat in a rain/show/ice storm. Very pleased with the service and the cost. Only complaint was the 10week lead time to get an appointment, though I guess that's to be expected with such a cost effective service provider. I'd recommend these guys without reservation.

I was happy to use Barrett's because they were recommended to me from a friend who was thrilled at their service.There was one small thing that bothered me. I asked that certain trees be trimmed a certain way when I was getting a quote and was told it would not be a problem. When the team came to trim the trees, I showed them what I wanted done, still not a problem. After they had agreed and finished up, there was a major branch that I had pointed out to trim that they had missed, but they had broken down and packed up for the day. I was told it would cost me an extra $100 for them to re-rig the equipment and get in the tree to trim that one branch. The branch was clearly in my neighbor's yard, and I had requested that it be removed. I ended up paying the extra fee to have the branch cut down. Everything else was very well-done. They were very professional, responsive, well-spoken, and a good value. I would definitely recommend them and use them again.

What a great company, and what great service! Easy to deal with, came when they said they would, cleaned up all debris, finished the job very quickly, no changes to original estimate. Learned about this company on Angie's List and they were BY FAR the best price we obtained. I will use them again and would recommend them highly.

Barrett Tree Service was fantastic--they showed up on time and worked tirelessly to take down the trees. It was a little too nerve wracking for this first time home-buyer to watch, but they handled the job with expert skill. The crew was wonderful too--friendly and professional. On top of all this, they had the best price of any tree service we brought it for an estimate. Some companies gave us quotes that were twice, if not more, than what Barrett said. I highly recommend this company.

Barrett Tree Service arrived on the appointed day and moved through work in an orderly manner. All the work was performed very professionally. All the debris was cleaned up. The trees look great and I don't have to worry about the limbs coming down unexpectedly. I am very pleased.

Terrific experience from start to finish. I have a giant tree in a tiny backyard that needed a major "haircut". This required coordinating with neighbors on all sides to move cars, etc. We had to reschedule because of driving rain on the original day, and Barrett called promptly to keep me updated. Barrett was prompt, super professional and they did such a lovely job on the tree. They cleaned up EVERYTHING afterwards and again, the tree looks incredible and healthy.

We were selling our house in Melrose and we had several tree issues on the property, which had a tiered back yard and very limited access. The guys showed up right on time, worked hard, finished on time and did it in style. Like I said above, I've used them twice in the past and will do so again. Vey highly recommend this service!

They came to the house within a week of my call to prepare an estimate. Ken arrived on time and assessed the situation. He was a really nice guy and seemed very knowledgeable about the trees and the proper trimming techniques. He also spent some extra time looking around the rest of my small yard and volunteered information about pruning my forsythia, lilac and rhododendron bushes which I've had a tough time pruning properly. I really appreciated the extra time he took and the tips he gave me. Three days after Ken's visit, I received an e-mailed quote of $900 to "crown clean" or "crown raise" the 5 trees. This quote was within 5% of another arborist who provided a quote on the same job, so the price seemed right. Although I didn't have to hire Barrett for this job, I do look forward to giving them a call in the spring to have Ken come out and teach me how to prune the shrubs in my yard.

The pruning was expert and artistic - thinning trees to protect against heavy snow while keeping the beautiful full shape of the tree. Trumbull Barrett, the owner, was prompt and attentive in negotiating and arranging the service. Ken Greeno, the arborist, is kind, takes time to explain every step, enjoys teaching clients about trees and tree care. He would rather preserve a tree with careful pruning and fertilizing than remove and replace it. Barrett Tree Service is open to negotiating for services over time, as budget allows. One noticeable difference from other companies - the crew showed respect for each other (no bellowing!) and respect for the wishes of the client. I would give them an A+++ if the review system allowed.

We have used Barrett Tree Service several times in the past several years and we have always been extremely pleased with their work. On this particular job they did the removal and thinning in a heavy downpour and all work was done exactly as promised. They are very responsive, professional, and easy to talk to. They have a new arborist Ken Greeno who is incredibly knowledgeable and gave us a lot of great advice on the tree in question as well as some other trees in our yard. We will have them back next spring for more work, and would recommend them to others without hesitation.
