Representative showed up on time, very knowledgeable. We made a plan. The cost estimate came within a few days - I was pleasantly surprised - seemed lower than similar work others had done by different companies. They came at the specified time. performed the work very well and efficiently. Cleaned up and were through in one day. I was very pleased.

Barrett Tree Service trimmed two trees with branches growing over the roof of my house. They were very efficient and cleaned up any leaf litter after they finished. I would work with them again and recommend them without reservation.

We are preparing to install a fence in our backyard. Unfortunately, there are plenty of trees and old dead stumps that line our property that needed removal. We asked Barrett to come and assess our backyard situation. Keith from Barrett came out within 7-10 days of my original phone call. I was extremely impressed with his knowledge about the trees and wildlife around my property. He informed us that the trees were Norwegian maples, which are invasive and needed to be dealt with aggressively if we were to effectively rid them from our property. We received a quote a few days after Keith assessed our property for around $1950. I considered this quote to be fair for all the work they were going to perform. About a week prior to the service, we decided that we wanted to rid ourselves of an additional tree that was leaning over our neighbors property. Keith came back out to the property on the same day, within a few hours of my phone call. We received another quote for approximately $2600 to remove this one large leaning tree in our yard. On the day of the tree service, a crew of about 5-6 men came with bucket trucks, stump grinders, and wood chippers. They arrived at 7:30, as they said they would. I talked to the crew chief for about 5-10 minutes before they got to work. I notified them that they should take the utmost care with our neighbors property, as we live in a densely packed neighborhood. In particular, there were 2 large stumps precariously positioned between our asphalt driveways that concerned us most. Once our meeting was over they got to work quickly and efficiently. The work was over in about 4 hours. There was no additional cleanup work needed to be done as the crew raked and removed unwanted debris. They left my property and, more importantly, my neighbors property exactly the way that it was prior to their arrival. No damage, no mess. My grass is extremely delicate, and was surprised that it showed almost no sign that there was heavy equipment resting on it a few hours ago. Overall, I was extremely impressed with Barrett's professionalism, promptness, and quality of work. If I need work done in the future, I will not hesitate to contact Barrett again.
Description of Work: Removed 6-7 variously sized trees. Pruned one large, wild growing maple tree. Performed stump grinding on all removed trees and old dead stumps around property.

Incredibly knowledgeable and professional group of people. I spec'd this work with 3 companies, and I chose Barett for a couple of reasons. First, the Angie's list endoresement. Second, they walked my property with me and actually recommended less work than I had envisioned, noting that certain branches were actually quite healthy and did not need to be removed. I appreciated that insight. Third, the honesty of the arborist when he told me that he would likely not be the least expensive option, but that I had to judge whether or not the other companies I was speaking with had the same knowledge and comfort level with the project. Finally, the work was completed on time and their clean-up was such that you wouldn't have known anyone was there but for the work they did. An overall excellent experience.
Description of Work: They removed a large tree in the front yard and pruned all trees around my property (perhaps 20 in all) to remove dangerous dead branches overhanging the yard (and threatening either the house or kids playing in the yard).

We found it easy and straightforward working with Trumbull and his crew. He makes an effort to be sure that he's understood exactly what you want done before starting the work. The crew was receptive to my requests while the work was being done. They showed up on time and cleaned the work area well before leaving the job. Some minor damage was done to the driveway; there was no problem in finding a reasonable resolution. We will definitely use them again.

We back onto a cliff like hill that is densely vegetated. A couple of trees and some large limbs were dead/dying and needed to be removed. Also we had about a dozen Norwegian maples along the side of our house, about 10 feet away. The larger ones were starting to touch the house and, more importantly, were very close to power lines. The initial meeting was very professional, in fact I was called to say they were running 5 minutes late !! My options were explained clearly and everything planned was clearly laid out in the contract, including what we needed to do to accommodate the vehicles and equipment to be used. The work crew arrived promptly and finished ahead of time, they dug out many exposed roots that weren't in the contract. We're now able to use the area adjacent to these aggressive root structures to actually grow something we like.
Description of Work: Removed about a dozen Norwegian maples that were encroaching on the side of our house, and removed several dead trees/large limbs adjacent to and above our property.

I hired the provider to remove three trees and he left the area a mess with concrete and blacktop torn up. Additionally, did not fully remove one of the stumps since it was too close to the fence. Refuses to send over people to finish the job without additional charges.

Response from Barrett Tree Service East, Inc.
I discussed the member’s concerns with the member and reviewed the proposal I'd sent, pointing out how we had done the items listed in the proposal. As a company we work diligently to perform the work as proposed, and it is my understanding that we did that in this case. The member writes that we left concrete on site. The area out of which the tree grew was primarily concrete and asphalt, out of which the tree and stump had grown. In our written proposal, we agreed to ‘grind the stump all apparent surface roots 4-6 inches below the asphalt, grindings backfilled into hole and excess removed to grade.’ We were not asked and we didn't offer or agree to remove concrete. The member also writes that we didn’t grind one of the stumps entirely. The proposal I sent the member specifically stated that our crew would 'grind up to 4-6" away from the neighbor's fence and concrete so as to not damage them or our equipment' for the stump in question. This is our standard practice: we use specialized equipment for grinding stumps, and contact with a steel fence rail would significantly damage both the fence and the machine. I tried to work with the member to reach an equitable solution to the concerns, offering to return and only charge for the time spent on site doing the additional work, but the member wasn't interested. I did not want to drive a crane back there so they did this all with two guys and a pulley-type system to make sure logs did not smash into my fence (or lawn too hard). The price was great especially without a crane and they were extremely professional. I am having them back to do two more large trees and again their quote was extremely good especially considering their level of service.

Keith B. who did the estimate was very knowledgable and professional. The office staff is also incredibly responsive and pleasant on the phone. I went back and forth with Keith on the estimate a bit to be sure everything we had discussed was included. The crew showed up at 7:45am as expected (with six vehicles!) and worked about 6 house until the work was completed. The staff was professional and did a good job cleaning up. The instructions didn't include every detail Keith had specifically discussed with me, specifically on the large trees. Because I was present and monitoring, the onsite crew (Alden in the bucket) added work which had been discussed during the estimate phase but which they had not done. Still, a couple specific branches discussed with Keith were not trimmed. I called Keith back about some dead branches left on the dogwood and the crew came back and trimmed them (no cost).
Description of Work: Trimmed branches on seven large trees, reduced privet hedges for rejuvenation, pruned mature dogwood, arbor vitae and yew, and removed unhealthy arbor vitae and maple, ground stump as requested, misc. other pruning

I'm not an expert but I have tree service workers in the family so growing up I saw a lot of removals. These guys were pros! From the first call back and estimate I could tell they wanted the work and valued me as a customer. They showed up on time for all their appointments and the team that removed the trees did it in record time. They used a bucket for the tree close to the house and then climbed the tree farther in the yard. They were constantly moving so when things slowed down in removing the trees one of the guys started grinding the stumps. All stump grinding was included in the cost of removing the trees. We had previously removed some smaller trees ourselves and they ground their stumps throughout our yard for a nominal fee. They cleaned while they worked, filled in the holes created by stump grinding and really paid attention to every stray branch.
Description of Work: They removed a 10" diameter Blue Spruce that was near the back of our house and a 15" Hemlock that was on the far side of our small yard. They also ground several other stumps.

Trumbull Barrett was right on time to assess the project and offer a price. He was knowledgeable and gracious. His professionalism made me comfortable about the job being done without damage to the obstructing telephone and electric wires. His company placed cones on the sidewalk to advise abutters to move their parked cars on the 18th. His team showed up for work on time, miraculously removed both huge trees, and left the area so clean of debris that there was no indication when they left at the end of t he day that the trees were ever there.

I reached out to Barret about 2 weeks prior to the service. Keith Bernard was the arborist who came to my property to give me an estimate. He was very thorough with his examination of my property and gave me solid advice on what to do. I had a yard overwhelmed with trees and an awful root system running through the yard. Within two days, Keith sent me a detailed estimate, breaking down the cost for each individual tree and the stump grinding involved. He told me he might be able to get a crew here within a couple of weeks. He then reached out to me and let me know he had an earlier day available, which I agreed to. His crew came around 10:00 AM and were gone by 5:30 that evening. They did an amazing job. The stumped were grinded at least 10 inches below the soil and all roots were gone! They did an amazing job cleaning after they were done and hardly left any of the grindings in the yard. I was very impressed!
Description of Work: I had 4 large maple trees removed, as well as 2 smaller maples. The stumps were grinded and the roots were chased through the yard.

We were away for several very snowy weeks in February. Late afternoon on the Friday we returned, as I walked around our back yard, I noticed that a very tall ash tree had large vertical and horizontal cracks in it about 10 feet up. It looked weak enough that I took a circuitous route back to the house and called Barrett East, who had done a very tough job for me three years ago. I also sent them some cell phone pictures of the problem. They called me back a few minutes later and set up an appointment for Trumbull Barrett to come to my place the next Monday. He came when promised, took one look, uttered an oath [as I had], and said he'd have his crew out as soon as possible. They came the next day, with several skilled men, cut the tree down, dropping it exactly where it had to fall to avoid collateral damage, used winches and man power to drag the pieces around my garage to the driveway, chipped what they could and loaded the main trunk sections onto their flatbed truck to haul away. Meanwhile, one of their climbers did a very thorough job of pruning dead and damaged limbs and cross-growing branches out of two prized sugar maples. All the while, there was about 18 inches of crusty snow to work in and around. Job was carefully and efficiently done. Price was reasonable for the amount and difficulty of the work. Quick response took a big load off my mind. Same comment as the last review I did of Barrett East - best work I've ever had done on my property, which I've owned for 38 years.

He was great. His name was Trumbull. He was on Angie's List, and I had at least 4 estimates. We had a very large tree that had to come down, and I wanted an arborist, and not everybody in the tree business is an arborist. We had used a company for many years here in Cambridge, and I had called them to give me an estimate. This guy was 400-500 Dollars cheaper on the estimate, and he was very good about looking at the trees and telling me which trees are problematic. This guy must have saved my house, because we had some really bad storms this winter. He gave me very good advise on which trees to take down or remove, and he took one of the trees and it just came down. This guy was very good, and very professional. He came out, and we walked around and talked about trees. I learn't a lot about trees from him. He answered a lot of my questions. I requested that he send me a written estimate spelling the terms of contract, and the payment terms. He was really busy, and he confirmed everything by email, and phone, and he showed up on time. His whole crew was so professional, and so nice, and it was 110 degrees that day. I would recommend them. The pricing was very competitive. I offered to give him a deposit, but he said no. He wasn't the cheapest but whatever we paid was well worth it. His quality of work was excellent, and he was very responsive. I had to go to California, and when I was leaving, I was questionable, and he came out on a Friday. He said he would come at 7 in the morning, and I was worried about my neighbors, but he said he would first set up. They were very safety conscious. They were great.

| |Barrett had a 2-3 month backlog, but performed the work on the planned date and did a very professional job with the design, cuts, and cleanup. The trees flourished in the following growing season. | |Additionally, I was impressed that the workers called me on the day of the work (from my yard) to confirm which tree in the back yard needed trimming. They had it correct from the work order, but wanted to describe it exactly to avoid any mistakes. | |Barrett was not the cheapest quote, but they were highly professional and customer-oriented. I would use them again.
Description of Work: I contracted Barrett to (a) remove a major limb from a maple tree in my front yard, and trim some minor growth away from power lines, and (b) to remove some medium-sized (but high up) branches from a neighbor's tree which were impinging on my back-yard deck.

Brendan & 2 men showed up around 8am and set to work. The Sugar maple required one man to climb it and cut out limbs with chain saw. The other work was done from the ground. Because of fresh snowfall, they had to shovel paths to to get at all the trees. Had to ask neighbor to move car out of driveway as Sugar maple overhangs that area, but that was all that I needed to take care of (except for letting neighbors know what was going to be done and getting their permission). These guys are very skilled and worked really hard. They did a great job with the pruning (artful, good-looking work) and cleaned up after themselves. They were all very nice people. They had me check everything out before they stopped work. Very pleased. Would use this company again. Emails and phone calls back and forth to get date for estimate and confirm date of the work were handled promptly.

We have recently used the services of Barrett Tree Service. The search for the best service provider is a challenge. This is why we belong to Angie's list. It is not just finding someone with the right skills. You want someone who can hear what it is you want done. Mr. Barrett has a team that was excellent in completing our tree removal. Equally important to us was that he worked with us to find a way to overcome obstacles that our tiered lawn provided. I wanted to share this information with other consumers to make their life easier. The experience was handled very professionally and satisfactorily.

Trumbull Barrett was professional (and even fun!) to work with for the entire process. His estimate was considerably lower than the other one I got, plus I had much more confidence in his expertise and organizational abilities. The tree was removed at my rental property -- afterwards, I got a spontaneous email from my tenant saying, "They were really professional about both what they were doing and how they interacted with people." I'm hiring them again for a smaller job at my own house.

Haven't seen them yet! Hope you can make something happen. I'm not posting this to Band of Neighbors because we still hope we can work this out.
Description of Work: Keith arrived promptly to give an estimate on Oct. 22, but we have not heard from him since! At that time he said we'd have an estimate within a week, which we still don't have. He also said the work would be done in Dec. I called the office on Nov. 8 and today, Nov. 25, and spoke with Courtney both times. She said she would follow up with Keith both times, so we'll see what happens now - no response after first call on Nov. 8, which was 16 days after Keith's visit. They are now scheduling work in Feb., not at all what we expected. This experience is very disillusioning, given the high marks Barrett's gets from you. In the meantime no trees have been removed or trimmed, and we didn't contact other vendors, thinking we would go with Barrett's. Two neighbors were also part of the job, so they are also in limbo. We would still like to engage them to do the work if the price is reasonable, but wonder if/when we will hear from them. I said "no" about using Barrett's in the future since we haven't seen them perform in the present yet!
