This is the second time we used this company. We were so pleased with them the first time that we didn't even bother finding another company when another tree in our backyard needs to be removed. It's a pleasure to deal with this company. Jennifer in the office responded promptly to our request and Trumbull came to examine the tree two days later. Trumbull gave us a quick quote before leaving and the proposal was always in line with his quote. The removal date was scheduled with no delay. The team carried out the work attentively and they left the work-site clean. We would highly recommend this company!

A Barrett arborist came first to discover if the walnut tree could be saved. He went over several things that could be tried to prolong by a few years the life of the tree, but he was clear that it would ultimately die. We decided to go ahead and have it removed over a year later without going through any of the temporary fixes. All work was done on my property, though both trees were close to my garage AND my neighbor's home. Work was done carefully. All debris was removed. Very impressed with how careful and controlled the whole process was. Would absolutely use them again.
Description of Work: Take down and removed a 26" diameter dead hickory tree, cut it's stump as low as equipment would allow, disposed of wood and chipped debris. Also, crown cleaning of a 37" oak which included selective pruning within the canopy to remove non beneficial dead, diseased and broken branches as well as pruning to remove a 10" diameter stubbed off low limb over a stone wall.

The initial consult was in the fall of 2015, but after finally getting permission from our neighbors, the job wasn't scheduled to be done until Feb 2016. The price was better than one of the other operators that quoted the job but about $300 - 400 more than another operator. I felt that Barrett seemed to have a more comprehensive explanation of what they would do, so I used them. They did a great job of cutting the trees and sticking to the proposal. They also cleaned up the area fairly well after they were done. I really don't have any complaints and am satisfied with the work. I would recommend them and plan to use them in the future if I need any further tree work.

Alden was very professional. Was exactly on time for our appointment to give me an estimate and communicated well (answered all my questions). Price was excellent (very reasonable compared to some other estimates I had gotten). The only reason I did not use this company is because I wanted the work done sooner than he could schedule.

Barrett is truly a great company to work with. Trumbull came to our home for a proposal shortly after we contacted them through Angie's List. He was able to give us an estimated cost for all the work before he left, which i find very helpful. I always like to have a number so I know what to expect. He sent us the proposal a day after and the work was scheduled promptly. The crews arrived in late morning as announced, they all knew exactly what to do. The workers worked as a team and the work was done within 3-1/2 hours. The site was nicely cleaned up and the work was performed beautifully. I would highly recommend this company and I will definitely use them again!!!

Barrett Tree Service did an excellent job. They quoted the job with a good price, they described exactly what they were planning to do, and set the date that they would perform the job. They came on the promised date and completed the job efficiently. They delivered exactly what they promised. They also cleared up any resultant debris and left the place in great shape. Moreover, everyone I dealt with there were very pleasant and professional. I highly recommend their service.

Barrett did the job for much cheaper than any other service ($895 when other quotes averaged $1600). They ground the stumps to the ground and level off the area. They returned calls promptly and followed our instructions to a T even though we were not home when the work was being done. I highly recommend them.

They gave me a call the day before to confirm the scheduled appointment and again about an hour before arriving. They arrived on time and the crew leader introduced the crew. We talked about the work. Originally, the Hemlock was not part of the scope of work, but they were happy to take care of the tree for us, which was doing poorly in the shadow of the large Norway Maple. They also installed two bolts into a leader of the Norway Maple with which I can rehang a swing for our children. They waited for us and our neighbors to clear our shared driveway and immediately got to work. All crew members wore suitable protective garments, communicated with each other to ensure safety and seemed to have clearly defined areas of responsibility. Each member of the crew was pleasant and polite. My wife and I felt comfortable asking the crew leader all sorts of questions about the work and implications and felt that we got polite and complete answers to our questions. The crew was willing to leave any leaders that were suitable for use in our fireplace and even cut them into usable lengths. They worked consistently all morning long, informed us when they were taking a break and then went back to finishing their work. All throughout the job the team worked efficiently and effectively to complete the work quickly and safely. As a final plus, they cleaned up the sawdust from the cutting off of the driveway with a blower!

Barrrett's service is the kind you dream of really. Trumbull first comes to evaluate the situation, make recommendations, note down exactly what needs to be done, and quote a price. He exudes knowledge of trees. Since we had used them a couple of times before and knew how good they were and how much cheaper (and better, I think, as it turned out) they were than the Cambridge Landscape, we were just glad they could come in a few days. We got neighbors on the street behind us to leave their driveway free the day Barrett's was coming, so they could park their big cup lift equipment truck there. As before, they arrived with a hard-working, efficient crew and impressive equipment. In addition to the lift, which had a very long, jointed, pivoting arm from truck to the man-carrier, thus able to put one of the guys pretty much anywhere in the large tree with his power saw and hand saw, there was a major league wood chipper parked in our driveway. One guy threw a rope over a branch to pull himself up into the tree, so two of them were working in the tree, while a couple of others were kept busy hauling the cut branches to the grinder. They made sure I was satisfied that they's done all I wanted before quitting. Every bit they cut off was hauled off.
Description of Work: Major mulberry tree pruning/thinning job and removal of branch that had broken off but had not yet fallen to the ground from, though it was touching back neighbor's shed. Branches had also extended too close to our house and neighbors'.

2nd time I have used Barrett Tree Service to remove limbs from trees in my yard. This might be the easiest contractor to work with and that says alot as an owner of different homes and rental properties over the years. You call the main number and a receptionist will give you a date that Keith will come out to review your request and talk you through the work. He will be sitting in front of your house 5 minutes before the appointment. He'll add commentary about type of tree, health of the trees, ones that are invasive and/or could cause issues down the road. Its an education from an arboriculturist basically and whats interesting is Keith doesn't appear to want to remove every tree in your yard, he just want to promote healthy growth and solve your problem. He uses a laser pointer to be specific. The experience lasts under 15 minutes and he says he'll email a quote in a few days. A few days later the quote arrives via email. You call the company back to book an appointment that is relatively in-line with what Keith had said the lead times were (3 weeks second time, 6 weeks another but was height of summer). The day they are scheduled, they arrive, perform the work quickly and clean up (very important), barely leaving a trace that they were there. The woman from the office emails you a copy of the bill for payment. It really is possible for contractors to be this good! Punctual, Professional, Thorough in their work and Clean. The first time I used him it was for limbs that were touching my house giving animals a potential access to the roof and attic. It was also causing some shading on my property that was creating a damp moldy area. Big tree. $700 The second time was to take down a few branches that were providing a shade canopy over the yard that was unwanted. He also had his crew remove a dead limb that was high up and over a fence that could have been costly to replace. $495

Very pleased with every interaction with Barrett Tree Service East, from initial consultation with certified arborist to dealing with office staff to interactions with technicians themselves. Keith Bernard, one of their certified arborists, came out to look at some insect damage to my maple and was informative, knowledgeable, and patient with all my questions. He gave me some welcome advice about some other shrubs, trees, and other plants around my property. Jennifer Conaway, their office manager, was great about proactively informing me when work was happening and what work had been completed. She answered every question I had quickly, efficiently, and completely. I ran into one of the technicians, whose name unfortunately I didn't catch, who was arriving just as I was leaving for work. He was similarly polite, communicative, and informative. All in all, I found Barrett Tree Service a pleasure to deal with. They went beyond just delivering a reasonable service as a financial transaction by providing information, education, and the human touch that would make me do business with them again without hesitation.

The entire staff, was extremely responsive, courteous, professional and attentive. It was a pleasure to work with them. Keith took the time to discuss all our requests in great detail, so the entire process was pretty stress free. And the work crew went over the entire work list with us again to make sure we were all on the same page. Our back yard is pretty inaccessible to large equipment, so it wasn't possible to get a truck and crane in to do the tree work. Not a problem! Keith sent in his climbers. They were very skilled and did the job with ease (and good humor!). Our garden is now getting lots more sun, and we still have a healthy border of trees. And the yews and rhododendron look wonderful. Can't recommend these folks enough!

Our backyard had a line of seven tall hemlocks that had seen better days. It was clear to my wife and I that these trees needed to be removed and I contacted a number of companies for quotes. When Barrett's came out to our home, we were informed that the trees had been infested with two different pests and confirmed our opinion that these trees would soon die. At the same time, they recommended against the removal of a few other tress that I was concerned about. Instead, they suggested we treat them and see if they could recover. At all times, the representative was polite and professional, and I was happy that he was already planning how to remove the trees with as little impact to our property as possible. As I mentioned, I had planned to get multiple quotes, but when I received the one from Barrett's, I didn't bother with getting others. I felt their price was fair and given their professionalism, I went ahead and scheduled the removal. They had already made it clear that they were backed up a little and that it would be 2-3 weeks before they could do the job; but that wasn't a problem for me. Due to work obligations, I couldn't be on site the day they did the work, but had already been assured this wouldn't be a problem. That evening when I arrived, the trees were gone, the stumps ground down and the area left clean and usable. In fact the only sign they had been there (other than the trees being gone) was that some of the grass was pressed down from the pads they used under the trucks; and to be honest, if I had mowed the grass shorter, I don't think I would have seen even that. It was a great experience and I will certainly be using them for my future tree service needs.
Description of Work: Seven trees were removed and stumps ground down to below ground level. In addition, two additional trees were trimmed.

I have been using Barrett's for a few years now and have always had a positive experience with them. They have been taking care of my shrubs and trees and everyone there is friendly, responsive and very knowledgable. So, I would always give them an "A" rating in all categories. The reason that I'm writing this review is because of a recent situation that happened. One of their tree experts, Phil Perron, came by to spray the trees with a fungicide. One of my trees extends over my raised bed planter, which is planted with organic greens and vegetables. Phil didn't realize that there were vegetables underneath and sprayed the tree with a product that was not specifically intended for vegetables. I walked out the back door just as he finished spraying to make sure he was aware, but it was too late. He wasn't sure if the fungicide would have a negative impact on the greens and vegetables, but he was obviously dismayed. I suggested that we hose them down to at least wash off any fungicide that might have dripped down on them. He told me that he would do some research on the spray and get back to me. He took quite a bit of time over the next few days doing research. He talked with his colleagues and read up on the product. He also, very generously agreed to consult with the owner of HomeHarvest, the company that planted the raised bed. When they both concluded that they could not say for sure that the crops would not be negatively impacted, Phil told us that if we decided to replant, Barrett would pay for the work. Today, it is often difficult to get to speak to a live person to assist you with a customer service issue. This level of accountability and integrity is rare. I think that it makes Barrett Tree Service and Phil Perron specifically, stand out as exceptional. I am very grateful to them for taking my issue seriously and for following through with such generosity.
Description of Work: Sprayed the trees with a fungicide.
