He'll come up with simple, cheap solutions that work. Plus, the things he fixes stay fixed. Meaning you'll never have to think about that problem again. He's an amazing resource for all things home repair related!
Description of Work: Most recently, Dan helped address two leaky spots in the roof and repaired water damage and staining on the ceiling that had resulted from the leaks. He's also helped repair a busted mailbox, install better gutters on our garage to prevent mudslides in heavy rain, built a new doorstep and repaired an old door that didn't function. There's pretty much no job that Dan can't tackle with panache and creative solutions that don't cost too much!

+ 0 moreDan stands above other handyman I’ve hired. A pocket door to a bathroom was erratic, it would jam or drop to the floor and neither open or close. After rehanging the door, it would slide for a day or two before again jamming. A carpenter tried and failed to solve the problem. I feared that the entire door and its frame needed to be removed and replaced. I contacted Handy for Hire, they responded, we agreed on a time for Dan and he arrived as planed. He spent some time analyzing the door and the mechanism on which it hangs. He identified the problem. The thread on one of the door’s adjustment screws was wearing - it would support the door for a short while before it again slipped from the screw. Dan’s next contribution was to take the mechanism home, weld a more sturdy screw onto the mechanism, return and install it on the door. Problem solved. I was impressed by Dan’s analysis of the problem and the ingenuity of the fix. A super handyman!

He fixed a gate, built a gate, stripped/recaulked our bathroom, and figured out a simple fix to a sticky door we’ve had problems with. We walked about identifying and prioritizing small projects for the next couple of years. As every, Dan was a friendly and delightful conversationalist. Really, do not bother trying other handy services first. Book an appointment with Handy for Hire and see how you like Dan and his work. We have been delighted and impressed.

+ -1 moreIt went wonderfully! The scheduling happened quickly and efficiently, Dan was prompt, worked quickly and effectively, made each of the repairs in a careful way, and I was delighted. His work was clean and professional. I had some of the necessary parts ready for him to make certain repairs but he brought all kinds of tools and equipment and had available just what was needed for each job and would have gotten whatever was needed if I had not had it. I would use him again without a second thought! His hourly price was quoted during scheduling and the value was well worth the reasonable price.
Description of Work: I needed a combination of a number of smallish tasks - replace a showerhead, install a new doorbell, assemble and install a headboard, install new dryer vent hose, fix a place in bathroom needing grout, tighten shower faucet, fix a board on my deck.

He built a beautiful front door stoop for us, hung windowboxes, built closet shelves, repaired a kitchen sink faucet, and more. The work is good quality and done right.

+ -1 moreI can’t say enough good things about Dan. He’s punctual, he’s professional, he’s personable, he loves what he does and he thinks outside the box to find a solution. Within 5 minutes of meeting Dan he noticed the leg on a piece of furniture was out of whack and fixed it. I had my “honey do” list ready and Dan went through each item and completed it before moving to the next one, that included fixing my clogged downspouts in the cold rain. I will call Dan/Handy for Hire again without hesitation.

+ -1 moreI have used Handy for Hire for number of jobs over the last several years and have always been extremely happy with the work that has been performed. The workmanship is always top-notch. I recently discovered some water in my 3 season porch. I had both a roofer and a mason come by to see if they could find where the leak was coming from and provide an estimate to fix it. Neither one could to determine the source of the leak. I called Handy for Hire and they were able to detect where the leak was coming from and gave me a very reasonable estimate to fix the problem. I will use Handy for Hire to fix this problem.

+ 2 moreLet's put it this way - everything went so well that I'm going to put together another list & have him back!
Description of Work: Dan arrived right on time. We went through all of my projects & he explained, in detail, how he'd correct each issue. He had everything that he needed on his truck. 1) Front door was installed incorrectly: latch was not aligned w/strike plate. Dan lowered the strike plate so the latch is now aligned, & door will actually stay closed without using dead bolt. 2) Basement door was corrected in a similar fashion. In addition, he filed the dead bolt strike plate so the dead bolt slides in smoothly now. Sometimes it was impossible to use it! 3) Our front walk lights weren't working. Dan identified the fuse for the lights & corrected the problem. 4) There was water damage to a wall next to a tub. He sanded down the damaged area, then put a compound over it. He said I should give the compound a few days to cure. The wall looks absolutely perfect now, and when it has dried completely, I'll paint it. 5) Lastly, he didn't even tell me he did this, but he adjusted the front storm door. It was installed weirdly (same guys who installed the other doors incorrectly!) so it always took a minute or two for the door to swing closed, after it was opened. Now it closes right away - but it doesn't slam! I was very impressed that he did this without mentioning it. Last, but definitely not least, Dan removes his shoes when he walks into your home. Some people don't care about that, but for those of us who DO, it makes all the difference in the world.

He was very patient and careful, especially when the question of whether or some studs were load-bearing came up (isn't it always fun to open up walls?). He was personable, friendly, and professional. As for the quality of the work done, I am overjoyed. As a first-time homeowner, I find even small household modifications nerve-wracking but Dan made me feel confident and I couldn't be happier with how the bathroom looks now, even though it was a small-scale job overall. I will definitely be calling on Dan again in the future!

Later that same year, it was peeling and growing mildew everywhere. We called and emailed numerous times and never even got a response about it.
