They helped us with our rental unit in the city when the heat went out. The entire experience was positive for us, from the woman who answered the phone to the technician who repaired our system. We called in and were able to schedule an appointment for the next day that worked for our tenant and the technician called us to tell us what was wrong. He provided us with two options for repairing the system and was honest about the pros/cons of each option. I will definitely call them again if we need help with the system.

UPDATE: Boston Standard contacted me to "make this right" and refunded the cost of the service plan ($150.00). It was a quick and professional response with an apology and I appreciate their follow through.I have changed my ratings to reflect the follow up actions. I had Boston Standard come out when my boiler stopped working in January. The plumber was very personable and told me that the system was old, but said he could repair it. Even though I had to pay for emergency service (Sunday) and wait until the next day for the appropriate part, it was a good experience. They sold me a "Peace of Mind" service plan for $150 on the work as well. Two weeks later on a Sunday, the boiler stopped working again during the coldest week of the winter. I called the plumber who had come the first time and he told he he wouldn't be able to fix it that day and he would come in the morning. He arrived in a surly mood and was rude enough with me that I felt the need to call him out on it. He admits that he was annoyed that he ever worked on the system in the first place and doesn't want to be tied to this system, as it was too old and failing. I ask him to provide an estimate for both the repair and replacing the entire system, which he agreed to (still in a nasty mood). Then I never heard from him again, despite following up. They took my money for the service plan and never followed through. Fortunately, I felt so off about the whole experience, I had contacted another company to get a second opinion and that company was fantastic. I would not recommend Boston Standard.

I was looking for a plumber to fix a broken drain in my shower. After yet another plumber didn't show up, and after three days of a broken drain, I was willing to pay extra to have someone come out after hours. I called Boston Standard because their website promised 24 hour service, that someone would always answer the phone, and that the technicians came with fully stocked trucks. But there's an asterisk to that "24 hour service", that isn't mentioned on the website. Turns out if you call after hours, you get what sounds like an answering service, and you're told that you can only get after hours service if you already have a contract with Boston Standard, and if you'd like to schedule an appointment with them as a new customer, you have to call back in the morning after 8 am. All of which I could understand... if they actually specified this on the website. Which again, they don't.

These days it can be hard to find help when you need it. I'm glad have found a responsive plumber in my area that is willing to take on a challenging situation. By the looks of their website and Angie's List reviews, they seem like an excellent company.
Description of Work: I contacted Boston Standard via Angie's List and was contacted by Joe shortly afterwards. I told him my situation which was quite complicated. I needed to replace heaters in my mid rise 1968 condo. Almost everyone else told me that they were sorry but unable to help me. Even though this would be a challenge as Joe would have to figure out how to help me, he was willing to do that and for that I am very appreciative. He even took some time to research heaters that might work for me. I did wind up finding a company that specialized in my kind of situation and went with them, but I am happy to have found a responsive plumber to call when I need some plumbing work.

I chose this company because of the good reviews on Angie's list and because the man who came to estimate (David Lenane) seemed so honest, direct, and didnt try to sell me a kind of furnace that I didn't want and really didn' t need. There were 2 reschedules on their part but they handled it very professionally and were apologetic and gave me enough notice. They also offered to take $50.00 off the bill for the inconvenience. When they came they were prompt, professional, and good natured, and they worked all day and successfully instailed the furnace - leaving the work area cleaner than they found it.

Really happy with the responsiveness and service. Although they didn't need to come out and fix anything I would definitely call them back with any future plumbing issues.
Description of Work: We called for emergency service because our water heater stopped working. The tech called me back and I told him the error message we received and he told me how to fix it. He still offered to come out if we needed him, but it was great service and nice to know it was something we could fix on our own.

Awful. Nothing was done because the price was outrages.
Description of Work: He and his female helper came on time which I liked. As I explain what was needed to which was just a pre season maintenance check of the furnace & filters. Mind you that this is a new system (2 yrs old). It also has a humidifier w/i the system. My husband and I just wanted to make sure the system works properly for this upcoming winter. The 99.00 dollars ballooned to 583.00. Thats not a typo. Supposedly this 583.00 price is for the 1yr plan. We just wanted to make sure everything would be in working order. I called my husband and he was GOBSMACKED about the price and the little work needed to be performed. He asked these workers to leave our home before work was started and we be on the hook for the 583.00. Needless to say the male worker called his office and afterwards he informed me I was under contract and I had to pay the 99.00 for him coming out. I paid it but NO work was performed. PLEASE DON'T USE THESE FOLKS. You get baited for the 99.00 Angie's list advertisement but once they come to your home it costs more for them to check and/or clean the furnace.

It sounds like there may have been some confusion about the standard service charge. You are correct, we do charge a standard $99 service charge and this is stated upon scheduling the call with our office team. Any work is in addition to this. The quote that you were provided included an annual service plan, as well as preventative maintenance on your heating system. The maintenance process is the same regardless of the age of your system- it is a standard cleaning, testing, etc that is recommended by the manufacturer. We provide up-front pricing to all customers in order to be transparent about the price of the work and allow you to determine if you would like to proceed. In this situation you chose not to proceed with the work. I am sorry that we were not able to assist you, but understand how you feel. All went extremely well. The technicians were very professional, kind, respectful, knowledgeable gentlemen. I was without AC for 7 weeks and had called numerous companies who either never showed up or gave me a very high quote to repair/replace the unit. Boston Standard completed the job within the time-frame and did a wonderful job. I highly recommend Boston Standard Co.

David Lenane came and gave me a competitive quote. He was extremely professional and personable, and answered all my questions. He and his office staff were also extremely helpful explaining the process of getting financing and rebates from various sources. This made an expensive project feel very manageable. The team, Jon and Sohan, came and spent most of the day installing the equipment both inside and outside the apt. Later two electricians came and found really smart ways to connect the unit to the electric panel (through the attic). Both Jon and Sohan were great. They explained everything and asked my preferences about various things. They were meticulous and cleaned up once they were done so you didn't know anything had taken place. A great company!

We called Boston Standard to move steam radiators. They came out to give a quote. We decided to go with another plumber as we were quoted almost $3000. Most of the 30 min or so they were at our place was spent back in their van getting the quote prepared. They suggested they would need to saw through our pipes and replace them to get the radiators out. We paid the $99 callout fee and went with another plumber. In comparison the plumber we eventually used was very professional and removed all 6 of our radiators in well under 1 hour with a wrench and without having to saw through and damage our pipes.

As for your service call, I apologize that you were left feeling the way you did, it is never our intention. I believe that our plumber quoted you for something different than what you expected; he assumed that you not only wanted the radiators disconnected, but reconnected as well, and since the radiator valves were all defective, along with one old “left-right” coupling joint, he quoted you for the whole removal, repair and replacement in order to avoid leaking in the future. It seems that we should have simply offered to remove your radiators and quoted the repairs as a separate item, I apologize that this is not how it went at your appointment, and I can only assume the miscommunication was on our part, because if we had done this work it would have also been an easy task like the other firm you hired. When water is dripping out of your ceiling, you are not the calmest person. Called them up, talked to a very nice person who told me she would call back after she looked at schedules and tried to fit me in. She called me back and they were able to see me later in the later. When they are arrived at our place they were very professional and knowledgeable. They quickly saw the problem and checked the upstairs bathrooms and were able to stop the leaking very quickly. Overall a very good experience even though it was started with water dripping.
Description of Work: Water was dripping out of our first floor fire alarm. They quickly diagnosed the problem, stopped it. Then they discussed possible solutions with me. They are coming back to replace part of the bathtub faucet and piping that were causing the water issue.

Tom and his partner came in, I showed them where everything was and explained what we needed, and they got right to work. I even had issues with a drain the night before and he quickly reconnected it for me. They did all of the necessary service items and explained exactly what they did and issues that might come up in the future so that we could be on the lookout and know what those might be. I felt totally informed and was beyond happy with they service they provided, so much so that I felt I needed to go online immediately after they left to make sure that I gave them this review. I will definitely be recommending them to friends and neighbors as well as clients as I run a home staging business and many homeowners needs this type of service before they move out. Couldn't be more pleased. So thank you!

We had a meeting set with them to quote a job for air conditioning install. We had scheduled with our realtor to get into the home we are purchasing. Appt was at 1030. We drove out to the home. At 1015 we got a call that "they couldn't make it." Dave the project manager was on another job and it wasn't going well and he was taken up the whole day. Interestingly, they had called to confirm the appointment the day prior. If you hate dealing w disorganized providers, poorly run companies, and apathetic contractors-take heed.

The heating system is probably eight years old and you're supposed to get it inspected annually. He cleaned out some smoke buildup and gave me some things that I should keep an eye on in the coming years. He didn't think any thing was urgent. I didn't watch him do the whole thing. But he inspected, opened things up and made sure that the flues were clear and made sure that we didn't have any silt build ups. They did a great job. There were no additional charges beyond the big deal price of $99. They were on time, easy to work with, clean and quick.

they were unable to do anything because Angies List misrepresented their service area, saying we were in the service in the area when we were not. Do not trust Angies List because they do not correctly represent the service area available and do not automatically refund your Big Deal purchases when they make a mistake.

First winter in our new condo and our heating bills were outrageous. I/we have little understanding of how these things work---we are first time home owners that are in the medical field. Construction, heating, cooling, etc are like another language. Justin was able to assess and explain the situation in terms I could comprehend. He was kind, friendly, and patient. Plus clearly has lots of expertise in the area of HVAC. He was on time and professional. We would definitely call Boston Standard again!!

I spent $400. I used them the second time, they came and fixed a toilet for me before. The same problem happened again and they came back because to do the ultimate permanent fix would have been to expensive. The gas line wasn't done right so they did a temporary fix and they came back again. They're very responsive, they have a front office person who always answers the phone which is nice so you're not always going to voice mail and he's reliable in terms of showing up.

Went very smoothly and we're very happy with the work. This was our first plumber, and the billing was flat rate, so it's hard to compare prices.
Description of Work: Disconnected and took away existing pedestal sink and faucet. Snaked open trap. Installed new vanity base cabinet, sink, and faucet. Added new trap, and flexible supplies. Took away trash.

I wanted to have a hood (for the stove) ducted to the outside. While making a hole in the wall, the tech *HIT A GAS PIPE*! This was a terrifying moment since there could have been an explosion! The tech and the company stated their method of using the feeler bit was correct, however, I talked to other plumbers who said they usually cut out a small piece of the dry wall to check behind the wall or use sensor/detector. The company fixed the gas pipe, though it should have *never* happened in the first place. On the finished work, the damper (on the outside) flaps during high wind and when I called the company they stated it would be another service call and will cost an extra $225.
Description of Work: Installed duct/vent for kitchen exhaust.

We have repaired the space and fixed the drywall, and apologize again for the inconvenience as it was not intentional. We installed the vent as it was designed to be installed and were unaware that your home is in a high-wind area. As mentioned, to adjust the damper requires a special truck, ladder and two men.
