Leo the tech, out of Manchester NH was awesome. I am a woman. My husband is out of town, and he explained and showed me everything on the camera he put in the pipe. My problem was worse than I hoped it would be, but it is what it is. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

The workman was very amiable, knowledgeable, and worked fast and hard at his task despite the very hot and humid day. Considering that the motorized snake took care of the job in about 15 minutes, even though the workman had to do some initial observations and digging, I felt the price was extremely high.

Plumber showed up and told me it would be $250 to replace the shut off valves and $400 to install the faucet. He decided he was too big to fit under my sink so he just replaced the shut offs and told me I should call Roto-Rooter back to "get a skinnier plumber" to install the faucet. He complained at least three times that he was "too old for this" and that he would have retired already if he didn't need to pay for his daughter to go to college. I decided I was done with Roto-Rooter so I called a different plumber, they came out and installed the faucet for $160. Never complained once about anything and were completely pleasant and professional. I have a new go-to plumber and it's NOT Roto-Rooter. I would call these guys again if I needed quick response for an emergency or to clear a nasty clog. They were very responsive and sent someone the morning after I submitted my request online. Communication was good, but the service was lacking and they overcharge for everything.

Clearing the drain was no problem ... he had it done in 5 mins. I opened up everything for him and removed the clean-out cap. All that needed to be done is running the snake about 7 to 10 feet through the clog. The price for 5-10 mins of work is what got to me ... $447.00. Sorry but I think it pays to shop around a little. He did cut the price in half to $225.00 after I told him to leave. It's a wonder how they stay in business.

Roots from trees planted by the original owner in 1986 had infiltrated the 6" PVC pipe that channeled water away from the curtain drain around my house. Roots the diameter of fingers, decayed roots & dirt and some 2" stone blocked the line almost completely in two places. The first time Roto-rooter came the camera Pete snaked in showed the blockage but freeing that first clump of roots didn't lower the water level in the center drain pipe in my basement. I spent a week verifying that the pipe we were working in was the only exit line for my basement drain and then Pete came back with Sean, a trainee. After a herculean effort, getting the 'nozzle' stuck and refiling the water tank several times, the clog came out. It was the largest root mass Pete had ever removed. Water gushed out of the pipe for almost an hour. Pete and Sean never gave up. They'd identified the problem and they were going to fix it. Though I don't want to cut down the trees, I certainly will call Roto-Rooter every few years to clean out this drain. The fixed fee for this service, which Pete stuck to despite circumstances beyond the norm, is a small price to pay in comparison to a flooded basement. One usually expects to wait days or weeks for plumbers to make calls, or expect to pay extra for emergency service. Roto-Rooters policy of service is quick, efficient and the costs are listed up front and guaranteed. They'll be my go to service now.

Initial contact went very smoothly and I was then called and advised the service would not occur until near the end of the 4 hour window, which I appreciated knowing. However, a service tech did not arrive until 3 1/2 hours after the allotted time frame, but the supervisor was very attentive to my concerns and readily offered a discount on service. The tech was friendly and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions thoroughly and gave helpful advice and tips as well. After a rough start, as this was my first experience with the company, Roto-Rooter restored my confidence and I would use them again.

Worse experience ever. I am still in shock that companies like this are in business. Also saddened that Angie's list recommends them.
Description of Work: The provider gave me a 8:00AM to 12:00PM window, We took the morning off from work and they called past Noon to say they were late; they didn't give us a new time frame or any idea of what time they would come. We waited all day and they called at 5:45PM to say their truck broke down and they couldn't make it at all it took them 10 hours of our time waiting for them all day for them to cancel on us after other companies were closed! As if that wasn't bad enough the customer service person I spoke to was rude and didn't bother apologizing when I called through the day to inquire what time we should expect them. We wasted the whole day for them to cancel on us at 6:00PM.

I called their 800 number and they said they would send someone out to give me a price. I asked what it would cost. They said they could not tell me until they saw the job. An hour later a technician arrived and said it was $400....and that was the minimum price! I was upset that I had to wait an hour to be told it was a very expensive $400. The person on the phone could have told me they had a minimum and I would have saved an hour and they would have saved the trip. Feels very dishonest. Backed up drains put people in vulnerable and often situations were the longer one waits, the more damage occurs. They know this...and it is very manipulative and unprofessional. I sent them away and called John's Sewer and Drain Cleaning. They did the job for $180.00. I recommend John's Sewer and Drain. They have many guys and are very prompt and skilled.

I had a main drain clogged at my rental house which caused a sewer backup and resulted in a lot of mess in the bathroom downstairs. I called RotoRooter around 9 AM on 01/16 to take care of the issues. The technician arrived within an hour, but that was the only positive thing regarding the whole experience. 1. The technician tells me that the main drain is clogged and that they can snake it to remove the clog for $400 for which I agreed. He calls me back in half an hour saying that it's too thick and that they'll have to use the jet which will be $800 and I agreed to get the issue resolved. 2. I call RotoRooter and am told that I should have the truck within a 4 hr window, definitely by 6:30 PM. 3. I keep calling every hour and don't get a definite time and am told that the current job is delayed and I'm next on the line. Even until 10 PM I'm told they'll arrive however late it might be and unclog the drain and well as have a restoration team clean up the mess. 4. My tenants tell me another technician arrived in the night, and said he can't do anything without the jet truck and left. Never got the purpose of the visit. 5. I call up around midnight and the dispatcher tells that they've called the tenant that they've rescheduled it to 11 Am tomorrow and I'll be the first job in the morning. No explanation given as to why they're not doing it night as I had been told multiple times earlier. 6. I call in the morning around 9 and am given the 11 AM time again. 7. I call an hour later and am told that the truck is being repaired in Springfield and I'll be the first job. Also, despite repeated reminders no one from the restoration team has contacted me regarding the cleanup. At this point I gave up and canceled the job, and called RhinoRooter who showed within an hour and cleaned up the clog and had the restoration team working on the cleanup within a couple of hours. I get another call from RotoRooter in the evening saying that had someone show up, but another plumber was already working. Either these guys are totally disorganized with no idea on what everyone on their team is doing, or just a bunch of sleazeballs. The dispatchers have no idea what's going on, you get different answers everytime you call. Don't waste your precious time with them during an emergency and find someone professional who knows what they're doing.

I have not taken the opportunity to write service reviews in the past when it has been made available to me. However, I am not going to let this situation pass without making the time to do so. In fact, I am writing the very next morning, just hours after Roto-Rooter came to my home on a Friday evening to help with a major plumbing issue. As a quick back story, we just recently moved into our home that took 15 months to renovate. As with most renovations, it was an extremely frustrating process with delays and costly mistakes. However this renovation was a nightmare's nightmare. All that being said, we were in the house just 10 days when the plumbing backed up into the newly finished basement bathroom. As one might imagine, it was not a sight anyone wants to find in their home - especially in a bathroom that was just tiled and sealed two days earlier. Unable to contact the plumber we had used for the renovation, and also failing to reach other local plumbers, we called Roto-Rooter for the first time. It was a huge relief to have someone actually answer the phone. The woman on the line was very calm, pleasant and professional. She gave us an estimated time when someone would be at the house, and he arrived exactly in the window of time she quoted. Ron was the serviceman that was sent to help us. He was very personable and had a calming professional way about himself. I immediately knew that we were in good hands. We walked Ron through the situation, and he asked us a few questions to thoroughly understand what was going on. He obviously knew what he was doing. Ron immediately grabbed the equipment he needed from his van and went to work. After about 30 minutes, he had completely fixed our plumbing issue. He took the time to make sure everything functioned properly and double checked water flow from multiple locations in the house. He helped us through a very upsetting situation and also helped us to avoid something far worse. I am guessing this review is much longer than most. But given the exceptional service from Ron, I am not going to apologize for taking the added time to thank him. I will also add that Ron was very considerate of our home and belongings. He left things in better shape than when he arrived. He was also extremely informative. We had a number of questions, and he answered all of them with the confidence one would expect from 16 years of experience. We also learned about a plumbing issue that should have been addressed during the renovation. Having a professional like Ron helped us beyond expectation. Our renovation nightmare continues, but the service we received from Ron was a welcomed positive story we are more than happy to share. David Logan 24 Burroughs StreetBoston MA 02130 Ron #5592

As way of background information, our home was originally built in the mid-1950s and was extensively remodeled, with a new addition built on and with a new septic tank, in 2005. The original structure's (cast iron) plumbing main was tied in both to the new septic system on one side and to new PVC plumbing with the new addition on the other side. The old plumbing main also has a U-trap in the basement before it exits the foundation to tie into the new septic system. Yesterday (Wednesday, Jan. 6), we experienced water and sewage backup in our bathtub and commode fixtures following our annual septic tank pump-out; our septic technician noted very slow water flow into the dry tank following pumping, and suggested we contact a plumbing expert to check the interior lines for an apparent blockage(s). I called the local Roto-Rooter listing in our local business Yellow Pages (southem Worcester County, MA), and Ernst Sajous arrived with his equipment approx. 2 hours after my initial call at approx. 3:00 PM. - just as the (very friendly & courteous) receptionist stated when I initially spoke with her (I contacted a couple of local plumbers who indicated that they "might be able to show up by tomorrow morning" ... so Roto-Rooter already gets 100% grade for timeliness and promptness!! As we soon discovered, the blockage was apparently situated in the old U-trap in the basement, and could only be fixed two ways: 1. open the trap and clean it out, which would require that the water backed-up behind it (all in the newer plumbing in the new addition) be slooowwly drained out of the line beforehand, and 2. snake the line back into the house from the septic tank. Long story short, it turned out that both approaches were necessary to correct the issue. Ernst performed an INCREDIBLE job, working long and hard to fix the issue. He was with us well into the evening (about 3 - 31/2 hrs) making sure that the line was clear and unobstructed, with consistent flow into the septic tank, before securing. Despite being splashed with sewage while bleeding and clearing the U-trap, he was very upbeat and cheerful with his work, staying positive that he will complete the mission 'head-on' (which he did!). Ernst Sajous is an absolutely outstanding technician who, in my opinion, I will not hesitate to recommend to anyone for their plumbing needs. Well done, sir!!

It went well! My service guy was Ron- #5592. Got to my place less than an hour after I called, which was a major relief as my main line was clogged and backing up into a tenant's toilet and shower. Ron showed up and got right to work, clearing the drain by running the snake 45-60 feet through the main line pipe. He showed me the amount of roots he pulled up, and it was unreal given that I made it a point to have all my house's drains and pipes clean less than 3 months earlier as preventative maintenance (by a different company, of course). Ron was able to figure that the previous company most likely just put a hole through the roots but didn't really clean it out. He got everything running smoothly and even actually fixed a small drain issue in a sink that he noticed coincidentally. The experience probably could not have gone better- he was punctual, efficient, and effective. No complaints, and I'd most likely be using Roto Rooter for my non-emergency calls as well!

The plumber was professional, and knew what he was doing. He snaked the drain three times (previous plumbers had only done it once). Only when he was sure it was running and draining correctly did he put his tools away. He ran the water for a long time - a good thing, since my pipe goes down from the second floor to the basement (around 20 feet in my old Victorian house). He told me what to do to avoid future clogs, and was friendly and pleasant. The next time I need plumbing work, I'll ask for him - Nelson Pina. Even though Roto-Rooter is expensive, Nelson did a great job, so the cost was worth it. And there's a 6-month warranty.

Our kitchen drain got clogged over the New Years Holiday weekend. Looked up Roto Rooter on the internet and saw that they did not charge extra for weekend work. Gave them a call late in the day on Jan. 2nd and they scheduled us for 8-10 AM the next morning. Gilbert, the plumber, arrived around 8:30. He was professional, courteous, and friendly and he efficiently unclogged the drain. This was the first time we used Roto Rooter and based on the experience we would definitely use them again.

The Roto -Rooter technician came on time. He knew what he had to do and attacked the problem efficiently and added an access to the pipe that will help if I ever have the problem again. All part of the price which was agreed on before the work started. For such a large company with a known name it lived up to what one would expect: Professional; quick; on time;and the system was fixed; and the system was completely cleaned!
Description of Work: Cleaned out the sewer system after I had to have another company come in an emergency the night before. Roto-rooter finished what the other company didn't do. There were more roots in my sewer line and the sysetm would have backed up again in another month!

The tech came up from New Bedford after hours as was promised, he reviewed the piping and asked good questions about the problem. He snaked the drain 3 times until the drain ran clear. He took his equipment out to the truck and came back with his cleaner and rags. He cleaned under the cabinets and the kitchen floor.
