I liked that they fixed the problem. I disliked that they were pretty expensive. I spent $300 for about half an hour job. My interaction with the gentleman that came out was very good. I would not use them again in the future.

I called Roto-rooter when I needed two drains snaked. The work was performed the same day I called, and was done quickly. The service was performed by a very polite gentleman named David, who took care to do the work cleanly and without tracking muck around the house. This is the second time I have used this company. The work is good, but the price seems really exorbitant.

Responded and arrived promptly. The problem was water from the kitchen drain backing up into a basement sink. The service professional was able to identify fairly quickly where to go in with the motorized auger and gave me an estimate upfront. The piping was somewhat complex but he was able to clear it in less than an hour and made sure that all the crud was washed out. He also advised me on what not to put into the garbage disposal in the kitchen sink (fibrous things are bad). I was very satisfied but found the price a little high. He also tried to sell me some products (biological agents) to limit the buildup in the pipes which I did not take.

Terrible! First he was supposed to meet on Saturday before 1:00. He did not. Then he was to meet my tenant on Sunday he did not. Both times he cancelled at the end of the agreed upon window of time. We arranged to meet on Monday, When he showed up, he said that we had a leaky sink, and that it would cost 75.00 to remove the faucet to discover the problem. He was paid 75.00. After he removed the faucet, he said it would cost 700.00 to repair it. He showed the worn out plastic piece that needed to be replaced. I took it to Watertown plumbing, showed it to the guys there, they sold me a replacement piece for it and another broken piece that the roto-rooter guy missed. Parts cost 8.00.

I would use their service in the future too.

My assumption which turned out to be a bad one, was that a simple drain cleaning would not cost an excessive amount of money. Roto Rooter apparently has a policy where they do not provide an estimate and only the technician who shows up at your house can provide the estimate. When the guy showed up, he told my wife they had a policy of a flat rate of $369 for any service, regardless of what it was. Since she had rearranged her day to be there and we needed to get the drain cleaned out, she went ahead. But if we had known this beforehand we would not have used them for the service call. I had a similar service performed a year or so ago and paid about 1/3 of this amount. I feel like their policy is deceptive and unnecessairly so. The person at the front office should be able to give you an estimate or at least tell you that they have a $369 flat rate. Do not use this company for simple drain cleaning service.

They were at the house within 2 hrs and opened the drain. The next day another technician came to do a free video-scope, to show me what the problem looked like. (Unfortunately he did not burn a CD of the video for me to show to the decision-maker of the family.) This second fellow researched the cost of the necessary repairs on the spot, validated them with his boss, and gave me a complete written estimate. I am presently in the process of getting more bids for the project. They are considerably more expensive than other drain clearers, but were available immediately.

The plumber arrived on time. In 5 minutes it was confirmed that the pipe needed to be snaked and I was quoted a price of $362.00, as a flat fee. I asked how long it could take and was told between 10-60 minutes. I asked why no price was given over the phone and got not response. I indicated that I would not have scheduled an appointment had a known the price. I said no thank you to the service and sent him on his way. I then went on to Angie's List called another plumer who would come over the same day for, less than 1/2 the price.
Description of Work: My washing maching was not draining properly and I needed to have the pipe snaked. I called Roto-Rooter to get an estimate and schedule a time. They would not give me an estimate over the phone nor would they give me an hourly rate for the services. They told me that the estimate was free and I could decide once the plumber had evaluated the situation

They are a local company and they were fine. Everything was fine. They were professional. I didn’t see any problems. There was open communication. They came out on time to get the work done. There was nothing really negative about them. I will definitely use them again. It’s difficult to judge the price especially when you have an emergency. They are fine, price wise. I would use their services in the future too.

I called Roto Rooter and they refused to give me a price estimate over the phone. When the plummer arrived he told me the price was $360. The plummer did not tell me how long the job would take a based on the price I assumed it was a big job. Ten minutes later he called me down and to tell me the whole job was done. When I asked more about the price he told me that it was actually a fixed rate of $360 no matter how complicated the job was. I felt taken advantage of because the company charges a flat rate but will not tell you that over the phone. Wow ... based on the 15 minutes the job took I had paid $1440/hr.

Our older (1892) home is surrounded by trees, so we have root issues in our sewer line to the street every once in a while. We have used this company before, so when the manhole in our yard backed up, we knew it was time to have them back. We called on a Sunday, and scheduled the work for Monday morning. The technician came with his root-clearing apparatus, sold me 2 buckets of product to kill roots in the future, and said the line was "wide open" to the street. A few days later I received a call from another individual at the company offering me a free camera inspection to make sure the job was done properly and that the pipe was not faulty. I had not been told this was part of the service, so I called the company to make sure this was not a scam. I spent quite a lot of time on hold while they checked, but eventually, they verified it was part of the service I had already paid for. I called the number the camera guy had left me, and we set up a time. When he and another individual came, they looked with the camera and said there were several serious root ball clogs which needed to be taken care of right away. I was surprised, given the all-clear we had received earlier in the week. They said they would come that evening, but due to heavy rain, they postponed it to Saturday morning. Since I was already confused about the mixed messages I was getting from the same company, the camera guy offered to come with the tech who cleans the roots out of the pipe (hereafter, the "snake guy"). I thought this made a lot of sense. The next morning (Friday) the first tech who had come on Monday showed up at my door without notice, and asked "what's going on?" I explained what his colleagues had told me, and he re-snaked the pipe, and said there was really not a problem, just a few little roots. I was beginning to think this was some kind of screwball comedy with employees dissing each others' efforts. He showed me a video of the pipe (seems he did have a camera after all!), and once again gave the all clear. The next morning the camera guy showed up again, but without the snake guy he had promised. I guess he had heard it had been re-snaked. But when he looked, he decided he needed to bring in a different snake guy. Why they can't snake and camera at the same visit, I don't understand. They finally did the snaking, and pronounced it cleared (for the 3rd time). I got my money's worth, for sure, but it was ridiculous that it took so many visits. All of the people who came to my house (4 different individuals) were very pleasant, but I wonder if the company couldn't be more professional and less expensive if employees didn't work at cross-purposes from each other.

They were are quickly. I had a few entrance points to the drain but one of the plugs was in too tight to a case metal pipe so he decided not to try to force it and was able to open the other drain. He uncloged the roots that were growing into the pipe and that took care of the clog. I had a sink that would fill up with water when a wash was going but now there is no problem.

They initially charged me $249 for the first visit. When they kept messing up the job and sending new people out, they finally waived the fee completely. In addition, it will cost me over $1000 to re-do what they did and to re-sod that lawn that was turned into mud by the water that the sump pump discharged because they 1)forgot to glue the pipes outside, 2) they positioned the discharge pipe too close to the house, 3) they moved the discharge pipe but so close to the previous area that it continued to destroy the yard, and, 4) finally moved the pipe to other side of a fence ? but with snow on the ground, it?s unlikely that, should water need to be discharged, the water would not be able to escape from the pipe. In terms of professionalism ? I think they sent me all their trainees. How else can you explain the need for 4 visits?
Description of Work: THE WORST EVER -- If you value your sanity and your property, do NOT turn to Roto Rooter of Boston for help. I had sump pump issues Christmas week,2008. The installer (not Roto Rooter) had installed the discharge system too close to the ground surface and, needless to say, the pipes froze. Since it was Christmas week, the installer was nowhere to be found -- I was pleased to find Roto Rooter at least answered their phones. They came FOUR TIMES, each time messing things up worse than before, including installing a bypass that made such a mess of that portion of my yard that I had to cover it with plywood for the winter (my dogs use that side of the yard) and it now needs to be completely resodded at considerable cost to me. In fairness, Roto Rooter did not charge me for the horrible work they did and the mess they created. In the past few weeks, I have called Roto Rooter 6 times, including today when I called to find out which office had served me. When I mentioned that I was terribly unhappy and would now let the world know how unhappy I was with their work, the young woman who answered the phone said "Okay." and hung up. I have left messages for everyone from the GM of the regional group of Roto Rooters (in Stoughton) to Customer Service. Not one return call. My hunch is that they just don't care. I would avoid Roto Rooter like the plague, unless, of course, you don't mind inferior work and no customer service at all.

They stated that they would send someone over on the Saturday between 3:30 and 5:30, they never showed and did not call. I called and they said that they were delayed, but would be out. I called again at 7:00 and they were still delayed. I rescheduled for 11:00 am on Sunday. On Sunday they never showed, I called several times and they kept delaying. I finally rescheduled for Monday at 11:00, they finally showed up at 12:30. The plumber gave my wife a high quote, claiming Holiday rates (Columbus Day), even though they said they would discount the service. I called the office and they said that they would give us a discount, so the plumber apparently increased his quote to my wife and then discounted it. The work was okay, but the price felt like he was scamming my wife. I called and complained and their regional rep said that they would refund us $175, to make the final price $275 (still on the high side for the work), but after two weeks and several more phone calls they have yet to do anything.
Description of Work: The work was to fix a leak under the sink. They replaces two 1/2 copper to threaded adaptors, required removing old adaptors and soldering in new ones.
