The process was long due to permits needed from the town that part 6 month's. From the time I signed contract with Canty Brothers in August of 2013 till they started construction in January 2014. Got occupancy permit this week March 25. They were and kept most of the schedules and were punctual except for delays for winter weather. Excellent quality of work, crew worked really hard to fill all requests. I would highly recommend them for any construction projects and would definitely use them again.

They were prompt, neat and courteous. Responsive to our needs and helpful in every aspect . They kept the place tidy and they warranty their work. My husband went into this major reconstruction with some trepidation, but came out of it with a healthy respect for John and his crew. They were there every day ready to work by 7:00am. The major part of our beautiful new home is over. And they were done on the date that they gave us 3 months prior. We have a small punch list. John and his crew have been very diligent in making sure that the entire list gets done in a timely manner. He is one of the few contractors who stays in touch after the job is over. An example today: My husband had an electrical problem in his office and could not find an electrician. He called me and asked me to call John for a referral. In 5 minutes John had called me back with a name and the electrician will at my husbands office in a few hours. He is there to help his customers long after the job is over. Steve and I would happily recommend him.

They were very prompt with the initial meeting when we were looking at possible contractors; and their suggestions for what work needed to be done based on our criteria were the best of all of the vendors we talked to. They were very busy so the work could not start for nearly 6 weeks; however, once the date of the work approached they were in frequent contact with us letting us know when deliveries would be made, when work would begin and coordinating the efforts of several teams (roofers, their own construction crew and painters). All of the teams were extremely professional and thorough. The entire project was completed in less than 2 weeks - and there were no issues at all. We're extremely happy with the completed project and highly recommend them.

Came out to visit the house and prepare an estimate. John seemed a good and reasonable person to work with, although the estimate was lacking much detail. I wanted to originally do the work with them, but after numerous unanswered calls and emails, and failure to follow through, it became clear the they were either too busy or didn't want my business, so I went with someone else.

I thought they were very professional but I thought their price is a little high.

From the start, Canty Brothers was highly professional, punctual and knowledgeable. We contaced several builders for a quote on an in-law addition. John Canty was the first to reply and schedule a meeting. When he came to the house we were immediately impressed with his knowledge, ideas and understanding of our goals for the project. His price, while not the lowest we saw (and far from the highest), was certainly apprpriate and all-inclusive. His approach, and his estimate, were of very professional quality and we have no doubt that he could have handled the job in a timely and high-quality manner. In the end we went with another estimate, based primarily on more personal recommendations, but the decision was difficult as we were so impressed with Canty Brothers. In our opinion, they are defintely worth a call for a project such as ours.

In July of 2012, we finally purchased the house of our dreams after 3 long years of search. The house was in good shape but needed some additions and remodeling. I used Angie's list to seek out a number of highly rated contractors for the job. Out of the 6 that I contacted, only 3 of them submitted proposal for the job. John Canty was the first to submit his quote and it was also the most detailed and concise of all. Additionally, his numbers were significantly lower the other bids. To gain our confidence, we asked John for references which he gladly supplied. All his past (and present) clients were extremely positive with their build experiences; and combined with seeing the workmanship of Canty's builds, we decided to go forward with Canty on our renovation project. Throughout the build process, the entire Canty Brothers team has been fantastic. The foreman/lead carpenter, Tracey, was on site every day. Not only did he carried out his jobs with highest quality, he also made sure that all the subcontractors did their job properly. And Tracey was always there to answer my questions, educating me throughout the whole build. Further, Tracey?s extensive experience as a cabinet maker really showed in some of the finishing works, especially in the kitchen area with custom built island countertop and cabinetries. Lisa, the ever cheerful office manager, is always prompt my phone calls or emails with scheduling and budgeting questions. She also made scheduling between all the subs go smoothly as everyone was working at the same time during the last phase of the build. And John is always there to provide guidance when resolving unexpected problems in the most cost-effective and proper way (and there are many when dealing with a 120 years old house). His expertise in the trade from years of working experience and his integrity really made me confident with all the work that has been done to the house. And lastly, all the subcontractors has been great and many received high marks here on Angies List which speaks volumes of the quality of work that Canty Brothers provides. It is worthwhile to make a mention regarding the build material that Canty Brothers construction used throughout the project. Canty Brothers always utilized the most current advance build materials, even if it cost a bit more than the ?regular grade? stuff. This is an area where many contractors try to reduce the cost because it?s the stuff that customer usually don?t see. As I witness the build process and researched the build material used, it was evident that these quality build material will ensure and enhanced the durability of the build, well beyond the standard ?warranty period? that most contractor offers. So not only did the renovation looked good, it is made to last. And lastly, Canty Brothers has excellent ?after sales? services. Any small issues with the build was addressed promptly and you never get the feeling that they ?forgot about you? even though the project has been completed. For example, once I discovered a water leak on Friday evening after coming home. John returned my call late Friday night shortly after I left him a message, helped me to stop the leak over the phone, and have the guys over to fix the issue on Saturday 7:30 am. I am very happy with the results of my renovation and would definately work with Canty Brothers again in all my future projects. And I cannot recommend them more to anyone with renovation/construction needs.

I was most concerned about matching the old slate, as I didn?t want to have a 2-tone roof, but John?s slate person was amazing (as his references said he would be): we used re-claimed slate, and you?d never know to look at it that it wasn?t all installed at the same time. John had said they wouldn?t know whether the rafters were damaged until he got in there to see, and it turned out the rafters were OK. He kept in close touch with us, and any concerns we had were handled well and right away. The job was completed within the price range John had quoted. It was done quickly ? John had his people there as the permit was pulled, and they worked intensively on it until it was done (except for a short punch list which they addressed very shortly after the major completion.) When he needed to get an opinion on something from one of his experts, he was able to produce them very quickly -- the job was not held up while we waited for someone to become available. The roof and the woodwork look terrific, and we would use Canty Brothers again without hesitation for future work. I recommend John m without any reservation. You'll get a straightforward assessment of what the job entails, an accurate and fair price estimate, an honest ballpark of the time it will take, and highly capable workmanship with supervision. John is a skilled and responsive point person: whatever your concerns, you can bring them up with him. In short, these guys do great work, and they're easy to work with.

We asked a number of contractors to bid on the job. Hour took the time to come by to prepare a bid. Of the 4, only the Canty Brothers team was able to determine the existence of and to locate the extra vent line that was installed when the house was built. We had a most pleasant experience working with Canty Brothers and their subs: Top-Notch Plumbing & Heating, Pearson Electric Co, and Janusz's Plastering. - John Canty of Canty Brothers was up front with explaining that the design was subject to change depending on the location of the main drain line beneath the concrete floor - The work site was kept clean and, when dust was an issue, sealed off. - Provided their own porta-potty so access to the rest of the house was not required - Allowed us to select our choice of fixtures - The subs were very professional, extremely knowledgeable, quite willing to explain what they were doing and arrived on schedule. - We (homeowner) installed the tile floor and got some very helpful advice regarding materials and techniques from Tracey, the lead on the project - The finished effort exceeded our expectations especially since we planned on a simple suspended ceiling and got a built-in sheet-rocked ceiling instead. - The quality of the work was excellent; the plastering was glass smooth, doors were plumb and true, trim-work mitered accurately, and every plumbing and electrical line was installed neatly and professionally. - Canty Brothers arranged all the licenses and scheduled all city inspections - The only call back was actually due to a fault in our existing heating system; Top-Notch quickly responded with a fix and Canty Brothers was quite willing to bill us at cost. - The project came in on cost with some extras tossed in at no cost. I most heartily endorse Canty Brothers and would absolutely use them again.

We discovered an insulation issue with our house roof...our forced hot air heating ducts were running over the peak of our roof (in the rafters) through our rafters. This was melting the snow on the roof and resulting in ice significant buildup. I contacted Canty Brothers Construction to propose a solution that, beyond addressing the issue, could possibly increase the value of my house. They proposed installing a home theatre on the top floor of my house. I currently had an large, unused finished space on the top floor. They pulled out my ceiling, re-insulated with sconene foam, re-wired, and hung a powered home theatre projection screen...oh and they built me a nicely finished cherry rack for my projector. Very happy with the result. Great job. Courteous crew. Every thing I've come to expect after working with them over so many years.

We got five estimates, three of which were in the same general ballpark and two were so high as to not be considered. Canty Brothers was in the running from the moment John Canty came out to take a look at the project. He was very personable and knowledgeable and took into account our wishes and concerns with patience and that we appreciated. Two days later we had our estimate (the fastest of the five we dealt with). The work was scheduled sooner than expected as they had an unexpected opening that would work for a job of this size so they squeezed us in. The crew showed up on time and were pleasant, professional and always happy to answer any questions that we had. I run a business out of my house with a phone system in my garage so I let them know my concerns about making sure the system did not get wet. They got the demolition and replacement of the sheathing done in short order and installed the new rubber roof before I had a chance to worry about it. Good thing they did as we had torrential rain for the next 24 hours...good way to test the new roof...it passed. When they returned they installed the composite decking, built the new staircase (nicer design than the previous one, well done). All in all, including weather delays (3 days of rain total) it took about three weeks from start to finish. We are very happy with everyone at Canty Bros. from John to Tracey to Lisa in the office who is always very reachable and on top of things. My wife and I highly recommend Canty brothers.

Given that we were doing a complete overhaul it was a bit overwhelming for me to make decisions on both the selection of fixtures as well as the overall look and feel of the bathrooms (I wasn't sure if I wanted a classic design, modern look or something in between). John and his team had wonderful recommendations with respect to where to shop for things and what manufactures had good quality products. John has a great eye for design and helped me make decisions on such things as tiles, paint colors, vanity selection........he even went the extra step of meeting me at the tile store and cabinet makers so we could walk through choices together. All of the workmen were polite and helpful and cleaned up thoroughly after each visit. I am thrilled with the final result and I'm looking forward to working with them on our next project!

Canty Brothers Construction was prompt, reliable, professional and clean; they even brought their own porto-potty. I plan to use Canty Brothers again because I trust them to do quality work at a fair price. It had taken me a year to find a roofer I could trust. The prices and information from the half dozen roofers I interviewed, from back of the truck roofers to major chains,were inconsistent at best. None of the companies, other than the chains, mentioned contracts, insurance, or consumer protection, to name just a few of the details John Canty and I discussed. One major chain quoted me a job using shingles, for twice the price of the rubber roof that was necessary for my home.

I bought a newly constructed home in the fall of 2009. We loved the interior of the house, but wanted to change the style of the front without going bankrupt. I contacted Canty Brothers Construction to discuss options. I had worked with Canty Brothers over the past 10 years, primarily for the gradual renovation of my previous home, a 5 story brownstone in Boston. Canty Brothers put me in touch with an architect that provided us with a design and drawings for a very low cost. During the course of the project, several significant construction quality issues were identified with the year old building. I expanded the scope of the effort to include the fixes as we were outside of the original builders warranty agreement. Canty Brothers completed the refacing of the house as well as all of the original building construction quality issues at a low cost in a timely fashion. All throughout the project I received regular communications (weekly update reports, daily checkins from the onsite lead). Canty Brothers and all of their subcontractors were helpful and courteous. A closing note: Just as the project was closing, the 2011 February ice storm (blizzard) hit. We discovered significant build related issues with our roof?as large amounts of ice flowed into our attic crawl spaces through the intersections of roof and dormers. Water rained down from our ceilings, damaging large areas of our hardwood floors on all levels of the house. Canty Brothers quicky got a moving crew onsite to get all of our furniture out of harms way, they performed extensive and broad ranging repair work (drywall, insulation, flooring, trim of all kinds, painting, etc.). The reworked the roofing and dormers build issues to elimitate the sources of the problem. They had us back in our house with the furniture back in place in a week. Oh?and Canty Brothers handled the majority of the communications (quoting, negotiating, etc.) with my insurance company?.which saved me a great deal of time. After so many years of great service, I simply don't call anyone else.

John and his team were fantastic!! They were prompt and on time for all the appointments. I felt like the suggestions made by John were great and we got exactly what we wanted. John also went above and beyond the minimum amount necessary to fix the problem to be 150% sure we would never have this problem again. We will be using Canty Brothers for other projects around our home and we highly recommend them to others!!

Overall our experience with Canty Brothers was very positive. We are very happy with our new home and our decision to add-on (and not move). We started by interviewing 4-5 contractors and were immediately impressed with Canty's professional approach to this stressful process. We were pleasantly surprised when all of Canty's references were extreemly positive. Once we decided to work with Canty, they worked with us through the design process to build us the house we wanted and make it within our budget. The project started on time and with gusto with Canty's foreman and a well coordinated crew of sub-contractors (bulldozer, dump trucks, etc). Canty's crew completed the framing and finish work with the other tasks being subcontracted out. Throughout the whole project, Canty had a foreman here to coordinate, update, and communicate with sub-contractors. In general, the sub-contractors working with Canty were excellent as well, with the exception of one. This was communicated to the foreman and owner, and was quickly addressed. Communication regarding schedule and progress was good with the foreman, and included weekly update meetings. Through this entire process we remained in the house and Canty was very concerned with keeping a clean and safe job site, and disrupting our lives as little as possible. This meant waiting until the very end to take down the wall between the existing and new spaces requiring the crew to use a ladder into a window on the second floor until the last few weeks. The project was ahead of schedule until the last month, when Canty fell behind a bit due to special circumstances. Canty made this stressful process as smooth as possible and it was clear we were working with a professional team.

just bought a house and so have never used a contractor before. I used Angie's List exclusively for my references. Canty Bros came at a good price for a job that should have went for $1,000 to $2,000. I called 5 other contractors and the quotes were for 4-10X the price mostly because they didn't listen to what I was asking for while John Canty understood that this a small job and he gave me a small price which I appreciated. Canty Bros has a handyman division which my job was referred to. The estimated time was 2 days. 3 weeks later they came by for two days and had to come back 2 weeks later for the morning because one of the concrete footers had to dry. I was disappointed with the way the vapor barrier was done. The plastic was roughly rolled out and not smoothed over. After installing the columns they left other temporary blocks in place. I asked them twice to neatly staple up a fallen wire and they left it undone. I would expect that the plastic would be left straightened and neat when they left and that didn't happen. UPDATE: Canty Bros responded quickly and offered to follow up with anything I wasn't happy with.

Everything went great, we were referred by out painter. The job was done to perfection. The bookshelves are top notch. John is a professional and would use him again in a heartbeat.

John Canty was great. He was very knowledgeable and kept us informed all the way through the project. We obatined many quotes before we started this project and John wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive. He was honest and upfront about everything. His crew was very neat and polite. I highly recommend him.

Not only did our project proceed in a timely fashion, Canty Brothers Construction stayed on budget and were actually ahead of schedule. In addition to great craftsmanship, John Canty has an excellent eye for design, and for finding economies of scale. Since the completion of our project in May of 2008, John has continued to be readily available to answer questions, and swiftly deal with any minor issues that arise. And, since that time we have contracted with John for several other projects on a smaller scale. We could not be happier with our home!

They are exceptional. They had excellent workmanship, were very professional, and paid close attention to detail. I only wish they had built my home in the first place.
