I am a new homeowner and recently used Aztec contracting when my lead test came back positive in 1 main room of our home and 2 exterior doors and a pipe. I called Aztec (Ray Moore) after going through about 4 other companies that couldnt be bothered with my small job and got an immediate date scheduled only about a week out. Ray was prompt and efficient. I would be glad to call him again if I need any more work done. I highly recommend Aztec Contracting. Gina

I did not have any choice in choosing them; I found them through the city of Lowell that approved them and I had gotten a grant for lead removal. The way it worked was that I got the money for the grant and a bunch of different contractors came in and took a look and gave a bid out for the job and the City of Lowell takes the lowest bid so I got the cheapest materials and the cheapest way to do this. They try to keep the cost low. After I used these guys, I ended up hiring them to do some extra work at my house. They just took out the plaster on some walls, they left the lays and then covered it with blue board plaster; they were supposed to use blue board plaster, but they didn’t do what they were asked to do. They did a really bad job of the finish work so I went to the City of Lowell and talked to them. I had to pay extra because that didn’t cover they bid, so I told them to give me my money back and I would deal with it and I wasn’t happy with how it turned out. I ended up having to pay extra but I got $2000 back out of the $5400 I had put in. I was really angry because even my $500 wouldn’t cover the crappy job that they did. It was months of time when they would come in, do some work and then leave and not come back for weeks. I had a contract for last February to have the exterior of my house painted but they didn’t do the work till July, that work lasted till November and they still did a really terrible job. When I talked to them about it, tried to get them to come in and fix it on multiple opportunities they said that they job was to remove lead, not to make the house look pretty. It was really unprofessional, they are absolutely horrible. It was terrible because I really liked them to begin with but they did the most to make the job as difficult as they possibly could. I would also advise anybody that might be going have lead removal done, to be very leery of who they are using. They were not professional with dealing with my unhappiness of the situation. They were basically trying to get out as cheap as they could. I would go out of my way to make sure that nobody ever uses them and I will never use them again. The paint chipped within two weeks of painting the house.

Response from Aztec Contracting
I was contacted be the City of Lowell for whom the member applied for a lead remediation grant (free money) in excess of $20,000. Lead remediation was performed using materials and methods outlined by the City of Lowell and Massachusetts lead law in order to receive a de-leading compliance letter, which was obtained and provided within the terms of the contract. He feels that the materials were below par, but are materials used were on grade level up from the City of Lowell specifications and I have never received a complaint in the past. The member is correct that we kept having to remind him that our job was to only remove lead and not make the house look pretty. The very definition of the grant, the contract and the work outlined by the city is for the specific purpose of DE-LEADING the property, not finish grade renovations OR upgrading existing fixtures. If the work performed was under par, why would he then contract us to perform addition work, not under the City of Lowell agreement? He mentioned in his complaint that he contracted for exterior painting to be performed in February, and as we are New England and painting cannot be perform until weather allows. All work performed was to the highest standard and I feel that myself, and the City of Lowell, feel that his expectations were unreasonable and bent over backwards to try to appease him, including various additional work, free of charge, that under ordinary circumstances would cost in excess of $6,000 to $7,000 in extra charges, therefore my company lost money on the job overall. I do not feel that the member's complaint is correct or justified. I am able to provide multiple recommendations from Cities, inspectors and prior customers.
