In order to use our 220 year old open hearth fireplace and the fireplace in the bedroom, we needed to have the chimney rebuilt with the 2 original flues to meet code and have them lined with thermocrete to create a fireproof seal. The length of the flues from the upper fireplace through to the top of the chimney needed repair. The original quote for the work from All About Chimneys was made 2 years ago and the owner, Ken, stuck to the quote for the labor and only charged us for the increase in the materials cost and nothing for travel even though it was a distance for him to come. He promised to do the work quickly after we signed and, in order to make sure it happened in the time frame promised, he expedited the work by bringing in a mason and doing the demolishing work himself. The mason did a superb job - the chimney looks perfect for our house - and was on target for the quote. Ken was absolutely right when he described the quality of this mason. Prior to applying the thermocrete to the flues, Ken did a meticulous job of cleaning and removing extra chunks of mortar from a previous repair job throughout the 2 flues. The actual sealant application was very neat and, looking up through the flues to the top of the chimney, it is evident the product was applied carefully everywhere. Ken did a thorough inspection of the open hearth fireplace, beehive oven and the upstairs fireplace and made repairs as needed before signing off on the job. For each step of the process, Ken communicated the progress and the plan for the next day. When the weather called for showers, we were informed of the necessity of postponing the work as the dampness would impact material. We have never had a contractor this conscientious with his work or keeping us informed. The work areas were kept very neat and clean as well. Ken was a very personable individual who took as much pleasure from the completed work and first fire as we did. We felt he was very invested in making everything just right and perfect for our home.
Description of Work: Demolished chimney, procured mason to rebuild upper chimney with 2 flues, repaired interior of chimney, fireplace and beehive oven, installed new dampers for the chimney. Thermocrete (ceramic sealant) 2 flues from fireplaces in dinning room and bedroom.

I used them for a few years. Once the new owners took over, the customer service had dropped drastically. There was one issue with our chimney that they totally disregarded. I had to find someone else to fix it.
Description of Work: I had them repair our chimneys for a long time.

After purchasing a new home I called All About Chimneys to take a look at our chimney, fireplaces, furnace and four flues. Ken and his partner did a thorough inspection, including getting up on on the roof and taking pictures. He honestly advised me on what was critical (rebuilding the top of the chimney, resetting flue tiles that were collapsing, replacing a wooden lintel with a metal one and strongly recommended a chimney cap) and what looked good for now and could wait. He spent a long time discussing and providing information over the phone and in person and kept in close contact when there were a couple delays (one for overscheduling and one for weather). When he came to do the work he brought his partner and another expert mason to assist and it only took a few hours. Work was clean, efficient and everything looks great. I found Ken to be really personable, friendly, honest and professional.
Description of Work: Rebuilt the top of the crumbling chimney, reset flue tiles that were collapsing, replaced a rotten wooden lintel with a metal one and installed a custom chimney cap.

Purchased a coupon from "Where" (like Groupon) back in June of 2011. I forgot I had it until December 30th when I realized it would expire 1/1/12. They cheerfully agreed to honor the coupon and scheduled the appointment for the following week. They were timely, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Left my basement cleaner than when they began!
Description of Work: Performed a chimney sweep for the main chimney in my house.

I was completely ignorant when it came to chimney inspections for wood burning fireplaces because our previous house had a gas insert. I contacted All About Chimneys to inspect our chimney - we were smelling smoke in the upstairs bedroom (obviously not a good sign). The inspectors arrived on time and conducted a visual inspection noting some gaps and irregularities in the flue lining. They recommended Thermocrete - a sealant - that would work in lieu of a stainless steel liner because our flues already had clay tiles. They appeared knowledgeable and trustworthy but I thought the inspection would be conducted with cameras to minimize the uncertainty of the inspection. This was my bad because I didn't know to ask for a Type II inspection (which uses cameras) instead of Type I inspection (a visual inspection), the latter performed by All About Chimneys free of charge. To top it all off - I didn't know All About Chimneys conducted Type II inspections - so I contacted another company to inspect our flues with cameras and clean the flues. The upside - we got another quote for stainless steel liner and Thermocrete and found out that All About Chimneys had the best price.
Description of Work: Provided a visual inspection of chimney flues.

My experience was great. I called to see if they would demo my chimney as they were a clean/repair business and they said they would. The owner and one other came to my house within a week to give an estimate. They were very professional and punctual. I had an estimate within a week over the phone (the lowest of three I recieved from Angie's List companies). They knew a roofer who could do the small roof patch and they included this in the estimate. This was very helpful and easier then getting my own. We set up a date and a rain-date. The first date rained and they came on the rain date. The work was done quickly and extremely neatly (you would not have known my chimney came down!!!), putting plastic up to protect other rooms. The work was exactly what I wanted and was complete when I got home from work. I would hire them again if I had a chimney. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Stand alone chimney was demo'd down to the basement. Roof was patched where chimney exited. Bricks and debris were removed and disposed.
