I was initially apprehensive in using Agies List. I usually obtain repairs and services for my house via recommendations from friends and referrals from neighbors. However, it was difficulty to obtain a referral for a Mason. A tree fell on top of my garage during a storm and destroyed the upper facing area of my three car garage. There were lots of fallen bricks on the ground. My backyard looked like a disaster area. John was one of several mason contractors I contacted via Angies List. John's mild manner, attention to detail, and professional approach put me at ease. Since the damage occurred close to the winter months John was not able to begin the Job. However, he visited my home to assess the damage and the scope of the work. John offered to put a tarp on the garage roof to protect it from inclement weather until he can begin the work at the first break of winter. He asked for a nominal down payment and assured me he would complete the work. John was personally investment in completing the work. He did as he promised. At the first break of winter he contacted me and began the work. He and his worker completed the work in a professional and time efficient and effective manner. More importantly, John is a personable and approachable individual. He offered ideas and suggestions to me regarding a new design of the garage facing. He went above and beyond the call of duty to meet my specific needs. He returned all phone calls in a timely manner. John is First Class! He is highly recommended by me.
Description of Work: Rebuild brick wall at the top of garage door destructed by a falling tree, remove remaining bricks at the top of one garage door, the brick already on the ground and disposal of all material generated from demolition, remove steel angle line and replace with new ones, rebuild a brick wall at the top of 3 garage doors with new bricks, use the existent flashing at the back of wall to connect the roof.

John and his team were great to work with. John's workman ship is top notch, plus he's good a good eye for what will look good and what will not. So, he will make his suggestions, but doesn't pressure you into choosing one way or the other. He's very professional, provided a fair scope of work, and showed solid knowledge of the trait. Plus, it is worth mentioning that a few days later after the work was completed I needed to make a change and John was very good about it, he was very accommodating. All in all, a great experience. Would highly recommend them.

I am very happy with the work! I had a 40' x 4' walkway re-pointed, along with some loose pieces on the front stairs as well. The response time was excellent, reasonable estimates were provided and the workers showed up on time. In fact, they were able to squeeze me in as they were aware of the timeline I was under. I really appreciated the prompt service. After the job was complete, we did a final walk thru and before I was even able to say anything, he noticed a spot that needed to be touched up. the crew came back in a couple days and fixed it to my satisfaction. Very good customer service and very professional. I would use again for sure.

John was awesome. I called him in a real bind (I had a couple things I was trying to line up - walkway/driveway/hydroseeding, and I needed someone to do the sidewalk immediately). Despite it being a ridiculously busy time for him, right before a holiday weekend, he squeezed in our job. He brought a crew, all respectful, and mindful of cleaning up. He was meticulous and made sure he got it how I wanted it. I'm so grateful, and will definitely use him in the future. Highly recommend.

John could not have been more prompt in communicating throughout a difficult, weather-related period. John explained the details of the work process and offered suggestions on how to improve our design. The work was done quickly, thoroughly and professionally. The end result is just what we wanted when we wanted it. We couldn't be happier and we highly recommend using this provider.

This provider excelled in solving a difficult problem I never anticipated. He answered phone calls to him promptly, and appeared on the day requested. John was efficient and provided a contract to cover the re-building. We looked at the project together and decided of the 3 steps, two would be re-built. After excavating a small area to see the step foundation, he discovered the construction was directly above the "cold room" in the cellar, where the oil tank also was located. The steps were above the tank, with nothing but air in between. John was unruffled by this uncommon arrangement, but obviously had to devise a plan. I appreciated the way he thought through the process and solved our problem, explained thoroughly how he would execute the job, and related the adjusted cost. He kept us informed thoughout the job, and gave full attention to completing the job to our satisfaction. His intelligent execution and open manner made him a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Provider re-built two concrete steps at my back door. He also shored up the ceiling over the oil tank, which we discovered was directly underneath my steps. The job turned out to be much more extensive than I originally described when I hired him.

This is my second time using JEO Masonry & Tile Services and after two great jobs performed by Joao and his team I felt itwas time to write a review. The first project was a stone facade which included approximately 800 square feet of surfacecovered in the entrance of my house. This project included putting in a large patio, free-standing wall with four columns withlights, and walkways leading from both ends of the patio to the gates in the fence on each side of the house. In addition, in themiddle of the patio, Joao setup the foundation for a Pergola to be installed. When I approached Joao, I thought I was asking for the impossible - to get the patio completed by my daughter's birthday, which was only about 3 weeks away. Joao's timing was perfect as he delivered and installed the 30" granite caps, the daybefore that party. Some of the characteristics that I really liked about Joao and his team: Punctuality: Joao's team always started before 8:00 AM Communication: Joao asked a lot of questions on my preferences on how to address key challenges. I had multiple cementareas which needed to be joined by the patio block, so decisions had to be made on slope, pattern to accommodate these. Inaddition, because of how large the patio was, Joao communicated slope and level issues he needed to address and thevisual impact they would create and present me with choices so that I was the one who would balance function andaesthetics. Other contractors leave things like this as a surprise to be discovered after the job completion! Thorough: The project was completed and there was not one thing that I felt that Joao's team neglected to do. The project wascomplete and the job site left cleaned. The only thing I had to do was put down the seed to regrow grass. Joao even fixed mygutters to channel water under the patio to prevent damage down the line. Flexible: Joao asked all the right questions that my design neglected to address and even when we had settled on the price,he was kind enough not to charge me additional labor fees. I had a large change towards the end of the project that Joao wasable to accommodate, which was two long & wide walkways that I decided to add last minute. Quality: During my daughter's birthday party as well as comments from pictures of the party posted online, I received manypraises for the beauty of the patio, the quality of workmanship, and stories about how patio projects with other contractors havegone wrong. Too bad Angie's list doesn't allow pictures, I would post them here. JEO Masonry & Tile helped my curb appeal with the Stone Facade 5 years ago, and helped completely transform my backyard last month. Overall, I would highly recommend working with Joao and I hope to uncover new ways I can leverage JEO Masonry
Description of Work: JEO Masonry & TIle installed approximately 1,500 square feet of patio and two walkways laid out with block, approximately 130 linear feet of sitting wall, and four pillars installed. Landscape around the entire project and address all drainage issues previously encountered in that area.

JEO Masonry was fantastic -- Getting access to the wall in need of repair wall required moving a water heater. JEO preferred that I coordinate directly with the Plumber but gave me a great recommendation (W Leblanc plumbing). Due to the plumber's schedule we had to move the work date several times. During the entire process John was exceptionally responsive (we communicated mostly by text message) and flexible. He showed up when he said he would, and did the job very professionally, and was true to his original estimate. I would recommend John in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: John and his crew repaired a section of basement wall in our 130 year old building in the North End. The wall's old mortar was crumbling and did not look sturdy and I was concerned about erosion. They cleaned out the old mortar and put in new and the wall probably hasn't look so good for 50 years.

A year a half later, the concrete pad is turning to sand. The top 1/8" to 1/4" inch has turned entirely to powder, and I can scrape away the underlying material with my fingernail. None of the concrete in my basement that I personally poured has this issue. The decaying slab has been used strictly for storage, and hasn't been exposed to bad weather, salt, chemicals, or cleaners. Initially, I was happy with the work. They came on time, and everything looked pretty good when they finished. I even had him quote some new work that I needed done. In retrospect, that I should have been worried that they were adding water to the mix by eye, instead of measuring it. Furthermore, the amount of bleed water was high. They spent a long time sopping up water from the footing while it cured. Now I'm having the concrete pad covered with epoxy, in the hope that it will protect the surface underneath.

I had a small repair project to replace a deteriorating concrete walkway leading up to my house. JEO Masonry show up bright and early on the day they said they would and did the project that day. And, they did a bit of extra work for me at no extra cost (reset and seal one of the front steps) that I told them about when they were at the house that day. I am very happy with the timeliness and quality of their work. I would certainly use them again.

JEO Masonry did a fantastic job replacing my Chimney, John's price came in below other quotes I received. When he had to delay the job due to bad rainy weather he called to let us know. Once the job was started John and his crew worked every day until the job was completed. They had to dig a 4ft deep footing to to build up the support needed for the new chimney, set up staging and haul brick and mortar. I have already asked him if he wold be interested in rebuilding my bulkhead in the spring. Very dependable and courteous crew Highly recommended !! Thanks JEO Masonry for a job well done !!

Our front steps were in a bad state of decay after several bricks had come loose and I had made an unsuccessful attempt to replace some of them (the underlying cinder blocks were eroding, so a complete replacement turned out to be necessary). We eventually decided that we wanted to replace the bricks with stones and limestone slab steps to match the nearby retaining wall as closely as possible. John worked with us to formulate a good solution and did a great job matching the existing masonry. The old steps were demolished in about an hour and it took only a little more than a day to build the new steps. We're very happy with the look of resulting steps. We weren't quite sure about what we wanted to do with the existing brick walkway, which had sunken in several places and had a number of broken bricks. John presented us with several good options for the walkway and we eventually settled on a cost-effective solution of re-setting the existing bricks and adding in new bricks for the raised edging, so mismatches between old and new bricks were pretty well hidden. The new walk looks great and feels rock solid. The final part of the job was to patch about a dozen (maybe more) places in a two-tiered stone retaining wall where stones had fallen out. This work was done in about half a day and the results are fantastic. It is impossible to tell where the wall was patched, which is especially impressive since our wall is of the type without any exposed mortar (t is all hidden behind the stones). All of the plants in the terrace were left unharmed during the work. Working with John was a pleasure. He was extremely professional and is an absolute master at his craft. He left the job site in very good order, cleaning up all of his work and even hauling away the waste bricks and cinder blocks I had created in my unsuccessful attempt to fix the front steps. His initial invoiced price was slightly higher than some of the competitors, but after he honored an Angie's List coupon, the final priced ended up being more than competitive. I would definitely hire him again or recommend him to someone else.

We had multiple small projects that needed to be addressed: Replacing one cracked sandstone step, repaving a brick walkway, finishing two landings. Joao responded quickly to my call and was able to come the same day to give me an estimate. He explained everything thoroughly and answered all of my questions. When other masons gave me quotes, they told me that I would need to replace the entire stairs, take out the metal railing, and if I were going to do that, I should opt to upgrade to granite- a costly solution. Joao offered to replace the cracked step with minimal impact to the stairs and railing and repoint the concrete. He also gave me the option to upgrade to granite. I appreciated that he gave me two viable options and because the rest of the stairs were in good shape, we saw no need of replacing the entire stairs. Our walkway was done poorly before we moved in and bricks had moved and or sunk in. Joao again gave us two viable options: take the bricks out and reset them properly adding a nice granite cobblestone border. We thought it made sense to use the bricks that we had and reset them properly. He and his crew were very pleasant, professional, on time and cleaned up. Joao was a pleasure to work with and I would hire him in the future for other jobs. I recommend JEO Masonry & Tile highly.

At the first consultation, John carefully assessed the existing structure and explained everything he saw along with his suggestions as to what should be repaired and why--all very clear and reasonable. He seemed to be tied up the first couple times I called to try to schedule him, though he got back to me within a few days and then was very clear about when he could work me into his schedule; and he kept me posted. His work was first rate, and we were very pleased with the results. He was also very personable through the whole process. I would definitely hire him again for any masonry work.

John and his crew removed existing broken up cement, removed a few inches of dirt, laid down gravel, mesh wire and poured a new concrete floor all by hand. They removed an existing block patio and enlarged the one I had with brick. John was easy to work with, honest, very hard working and did a few small extras without an extra charge. The work they performed was great and I am pleased with the outcome I would recommend John and his crew. Noticed I included his crew, lots of the time the workers do not get recognized, these guys worked really hard were polite and friendly.

The crew was on time, even a bit early. They worked hard all day. The took two days to do the retaining wall and waterproofing. They did a great job of cleaning up afterwards. The same was true last year. Their workmanship is excellent! John deOliveira was willing to advise me on the maintenance of an old stone wall and even repaired a spot as part of the deal. He is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend him and his crew.
Description of Work: I had a retaining wall replaced as well as a spot of exterior waterproofing. The retaining wall was about 22' long and less than 3' tall. The waterproofing area was 1.5' deep and 6' long. This is the second job JEO Masonry has done for me. Last year they replaced my five front steps with brick and granite. That cost $5000. I found it a bit expensive but the craftsmanship and quality made it well worth it in the end.
