First Class Tin Knocker

Got quotes from several businesses, First Class Tin Knockers was by far the lowest, and included better equipment. Jason seemed like a very personable guy, and we wanted to give him our business. Lesson learned - they are a small shop that seems to be overbooked/understaffed. The project took much longer than indicated, it was very difficult to get a response from them, workers showed up at our house with no prior communication, and they rescheduled several times, last minute. There was one day that we had specifically agreed that Jason would be onsite to oversee the work, and after several phone calls and texts, it became clear that he had no intention of being there. I had to miss work because I'd never met the guy that was sent as a replacement, and didn't feel comfortable leaving him in the house. The project had a lot of snags, and the overall experience could have been vastly improved had Jason picked up the phone every week or so to give us an update, or explain his approach. They definitely over promised and under delivered.

Recently purchased a home and have forced hot air heating. Hot air was not flowing enough to the 2nd floor from the basement furnace. Had the furnance serviced by another company and was told it is big enough and in good condition but the ducts were old or potentially not aligned any more. I contacted Jason from First Class Tinknockers and although he was extremely busy at this time of year, he made time to come out and give a free estimate. He walked through the house for about 45 minutes and looked at all my ductwork. He was very thorough and examined behind the drop ceiling etc. He was upfront with me about costs and provided 3 different estimates. 2 of which were to replace the ducts which there was no guarantee that it would 100% solve my problem. As Jason explained, older homes have trouble heating rooms that have lengthy ducts. While his first 2 proposals would definitely help because they would replace the mess of all different duct sizes I had now, the second floor would not ever be as warm as the first. The 3rd quote was to install a new unit in the 3rd floor attic and re-zone the house so the first floor was on its own zone and floors 2 and 3 each had their own zone as well. Jason needs to firm up this price with the HVAC company he frequently uses (I believe this is Coastal Heating and Air). I definitely like this option the best. It will be more expensive, but will 100% solve my problem, and for the cost of options 1and 2, I'd rather save up the money to get it right once and for all. Jason was professional during my entire experience. He's a regular guy who wants the customer to understand what is going on with their home and who is fair and upfront about the price. He gave me options and told me to pick what worked best for me. I did not feel pressured to do one option over another and he was not trying to upsell me on the most expensive route. I will definitely use Jason when we are ready to complete the major project of installing a 2nd heating/cooling unit in the attic.
