Logoed truck, always on time. Upgraded service to 100 AMP. Shebeeb and Brandon dug the trenches, ran the wires and quite honestly worked hard getting me back up with electricity before they left. McCurdy Electric even pulled the required permits and met with the City Inspector at my home. Just sat back with a book and let the professionals do their magic. During the walkthrough John was easy to chat with on what we were looking for in this project. We were looking to get some ethernet drops installed so that a new hardwired ethernet and wireless network could be installed by North Shore IT ([*** Link removed ***] Once we agreed to the project, Bill and Nico were easy to work with and were very expedient. They completed the job over a day and a half and did a great job at minimizing the impact to the walls and floors. I would definitely recommend JP McCurdy electrical services to others and would use them again!

I used JP McCurdy to install recessed lights in my living room. The ceiling was sloped and very high and Shazeeb and Nico did a great job. They also installed overhead lights in bedrooms and put in a 240-volt outlet for a washer/dryer room. They communicated with me about my preferences throughout the job. Their work was professional and clean. They also patched the holes they made, which some electricians wouldn’t do.

McCurdy Electric taught us a very important but very expensive lesson -- TO GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!!!! We hired McCurdy late last year to make sure we didn't have Knob and Tube Wiring in our old three-decker building. As they were looking for K&T they did something to the wiring to our heating system (why??) that resulted in our losing heat in the middle of winter. Long story short, they were unable or unwilling to fix this and so we needed to pay the people who deliver our oil to take care of this, to rewire the furnace. This issue altogether cost us about $1,000. McCurdy refused to help pay for this -- or to make an insurance claim. They said the furnace wiring already was a mess when they were looking at it. Then, after the inspection, it took months for them to send a letter saying we don't have knob and tube. I must have called or wrote 20 times. Perhaps more. So very time consuming. So if you go with McCurdy, or any other electrician for that matter, you need to get your expectations for a project put in writing and signed. (W/O a letter, if insurance or whomever is asking about k&t, we would have to had it done all over again.) So spell out by when you want something done. McCurdy would probably have not bothered to send us a letter about our k&t if I hadn't spent weeks nagging them. Also extremely important: have the electrician put in writing that if something goes wrong -- if they mess up something -- they either will fix it or pay for it to be fixed. What we spent fixing the damage to our wiring was brutally hurtful at a time when I was counting every dollar and going to ridiculous lengths to save a few dollars. So this was horrible.

From the start, everyone at McCurdy was professional, pleasant to deal with, and knowledgeable. Jack McCurdy himself came to assess the job and prepare estimates. Before the electricians arrived, we received several reminders and confirmations. The electricians were really nice guys and extremely talented, installing new wiring from the basement to rooms on all three floors with minimal damage to walls and ceilings. They cleaned up at the end of each day as if they hadn't even been here and completed the job surprisingly fast. Doing any work on a house is expensive these days, but it's all worth it when a company does exactly what they say they're going to do. JP McCurdy Electrical Services is a first-class organization and I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone looking for quality electrical work.

We highly recommend J.P. McCurdy Electrical Services. We hired this exceptional shop to replace all the old knob and tube wiring (along with switching out a number of light fixtures and installing several ceiling fans) in our 120-year-old Victorian home – a challenging job that a couple of other electricians didn’t feel confident undertaking. Owner Jack McCurdy personally came to size up the job and give us a detailed estimate, and his professionalism, courtesy and extensive knowledge sold us. What was originally thought to be a two-week job was finished in six working days as foreman Joe Costain efficiently deployed his crew and brought in a second crew on a few days to expedite the work. Joe was great at communicating what kind of activity we could expect day-to-day, especially as both my wife and I are working from home fulltime during the COVID pandemic. He and the crew checked in frequently on our preferences, minimized the number of holes in the ceilings and walls (including avoiding harming our wallpaper in a couple of rooms altogether), and cleaned up well at the end of every day. Jack’s estimate was competitive and the final accounting accurately included the additions and subtractions we agreed to during the job. We feel so much better that we’ve finally eliminated the risky knob and tube wiring and updated the entire house’s electrical system. McCurdy is a full-service shop that does all kinds of electrical work – if you want a trustworthy and capable electrician, give Jack a call!

Awesome, Derek was the nicest and most polite person. He did outstanding work, asked if I had any questions along the way. I thought it was nice that he brought up the guarantee on any work he has completed. These folks are now my preferred electricians. This has been my second time using them. A+

I had an outdoor outlet that would spring when it rained, so McCurdy’s Deal for an “outdoor GFCI outlet, and weatherproof cable within 25’ of an exciting circuit” for $125-- was perfect A nice fellow arrived (on time), but said he did not have a double plug box (like I had) in his van (of electrical parts). So we waited a half hour for the office to get back that a double box would be an extra + $58 (about 3 times the difference online). Then we discussed the “25’ of new wiring” the Deal promised. Although the circuit box was on the other side of the wall and the wiring went to it through a wide metal tube, it was supposedly “too difficult” to run new wiring. And for some reason, re-attaching the existing wire going to walk lights was also a big deal. So I reluctantly agreed to not having any new wiring, and the guy left to get a double plug 2 miles away. By the time he returned, it was an hour and half after arriving. It took him 15 minutes to attach the existing wires to new plugs (using the the old box!) & putting on a new hood. He called the office again waited in his truck. Finally, the office called- $258.—over double the price and I got neither a “NEW box” or “NEW wiring”—just new plugs & a new cover. I would’ve expected to be charged more if I’d gotten new wiring, not just re-attaching existing wiring to new plugs. And I would’ve expected to be charged more for a NEW box, than just a NEW cover, but that wasn't how she saw it. She said I owed for the extra time, but the Electrician only spent 15 minutes doing electrical work-- and the rest waiting for the 'office to call back', discussing why I couldn’t have the “new wiring” that was part of the Deal, and for his not having a double box cover in his truck. Go figure I just checked out my past reviews and saw that several years back I did another deal with them and that time, too, the electrician was great and the work was great-- the only problem was the ‘office’ woman demanded a pricey cost for the half hour we spent discussing an estimate for replacing the whole fuse box! In both cases, McCurdy would’ve gotten more business from me if it wasn’t for the cheapskate in the ‘office’ charging for time that most professionals would not

Our electric range required replacement and we also replaced the old three wire circuit with the current four wire standard, a demanding job. McCurdy Electric was the most responsive of the people we called in order to get the job done to suit our need and performed to perfection. Jose kept his promise to get it done within two days and assured that the new stove was up and running taking the time to review its novel features. The most important thing to me with contractors is honesty. And of course, competency, and a fair price. Well, McCurdy passed the test with flying colors for me on all counts. Jack's character (he's the owner) is outstanding--he stands behind the company's work and honors his word 100%, looking to save the customer money if possible, instead of upcharging. He'll give you the straight truth about what's going on and what's needed, at a good price. I had to have knob and tube electric wiring removed so that we can insulate our house. It's a big job, and McCurdy's workers, led by Joe, were all kind, considerate, and knowledgeable about what they were doing. They even did a significant amount of work that they didn't charge me for. I couldn't be happier with what they did. Honest, professional, kind--and highly recommended! I'd call them again, and send my friends and family to them in a heartbeat. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with J.P. McCurdy Electrical Services. They went well above and beyond on our job. Most meaningful to me is that Jack McCurdy (owner) stood by his word and contract even when more work was required on our job. The electricians working in our home were diligent, thorough, and respectful. (I work from home so this was important.) The head electrician, Joe, was great to work with. He was very patient with us and always took time to answer questions. We were having all of the knob and tube removed from our home, which can be a dirty and require holes in the walls. Joe and the rest of the team did all they could to minimize the holes and mess, and even came up with ingenious ways of accessing difficult to access areas that needed rewiring. Working with McCurdy Electric felt like a godsend after having previously dealt with a dishonest contractor. I would highly recommend this company. I can sleep at night knowing that the knob and tube is definitely gone, and I can finally safely insulate my home. Should we ever need further electrical work done in our home, we will be sure to call them again.

They were terrific! Very professional and timely. Their work is very clean (professional) and they cleaned up after themselves. The recommendations were pragmatic and were respectful of our budget. They were informative and showed up when they said They were very cost effective. In short I couldn't ask for more. I would very highly recommend.

We were looking to rewire some knob-and-tube that was discovered during a MassSave assessment. The electrician who did the assessment was thorough and mapped out the circuits and the loads - essentially, put together a work scope. We used this work scope to get estimates from multiple electrical companies. We got a total of 4 estimates, of which JP McCurdy was one. The other three electricians did a quick visual inspection to make sure the work scope was accurate and provided estimates. They did not charge for this. But JP McCurdy insisted that they would do their own assessment and would not accept the work scope we provide. They said they would charge $250 for this. This charge wasn’t mentioned in the initial phone call when I scheduled the assessment. If they had, I wouldn’t even have scheduled it. But they called me the morning of the assessment and said that there would be a charge and required a credit card. I was having scheduling issues with the other electricians and wanted to have options (McCurdy said they can start pretty much right away), so I agreed. When their assessors arrived, I provided them a print out of the work scope and mentioned that their office said they would do their own assessment. But the McCurdy assessors said the work scope looks detailed and so they don’t need to their own assessment. They spent fewer than 5 mins at my property - less time than the other 3 electricians. When I called the office to dispute the charge on the basis that they accepted our work scope and didn’t perform their own assessment, I was stonewalled. But eventually I was passed on to John McCurdy (owner?), who again argued that the charge was their policy. Eventually he said he will refund part of the charge. I have waited 1 month for this refund to appear. But this hasn’t happened. Furthermore, they were the most expensive of the 4 quotes, by a lot. Overall a really terrible experience. These guys are unethical and dishonest. Avoid them at all costs.

The review was fine, and some fixtures were fixed but no follow-up information was sent and electrical problems continue even though switches were pronounced fine.

The electrician was not able to make the original time slot I was given, but their office called me with a reasonable amount of warning time to ask if he could come at a different hour and he did come then (although first to the wrong address). The electrician looked quickly at the smoke alarms and suggested we just buy all new ones and told us generally which ones to purchase. He said it would be more expensive if he went and got them, as he charges by the hour, so he offered to come back in two days once we bought them. The office called me promptly and made an appointment for the next day and the electrician came as expected and replaced them all. All together, the work took about an hour, but I realize it took two visits, so I was ok paying for two hours. I got an invoice for three hours, which I thought was excessive and it took some back and forth with their office before they looked back at the GPS records for the service vehicles and changed the bill. In general, it seems like they round up to the next hour as soon as you are slight over.

I should have asked the cost before having the work done as I was surprised that it was $400. to have them installed which was double the cost of the actual fans. Otherwise everything else was perfect.

Bill was a great trouble shooter, as well as a great electrician. I'm very satisfied. All my contact with the office was great too.

The Electrician and his apprentice arrived on time at 7:30 AM. They assessed the job and got straight to work. Despite the complexity, they were done within 4 hours. This compared to a competitor who couldn’t quote or start the work the same day. The electrician and his apprentice were pleasant, friendly and professional. They patched everything up as good as new and the outlet and new light switch looked great. I would hire them again and probably will when I upgrade the wiring throughout my condo. Great company!
