Services we offer
Electrical, knob and tube wiring, home automation systems, lighting controls, intrusion alarm systems, video surveillance, home theater, generator sales, service & installation.
Service was prompt but took 2 days longer than initial estimates due to (1) the electricians getting called away and (2) running into unexpected wiring issues due to the age/construction of the house. Overall, the work quality was great, I just wished they cleaned up after themselves a bit more. Initial wiring failed inspection as they failed to put an accessible switch next to the dishwasher for easy servicing. This was quickly addressed within 2 days and passed the next inspection.
Description of Work: Brought the kitchen electric up to code by pulling the existing circuits and running ~5 new circuits for refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave, counter sockets and lights.

I purchased a BD for $200 toward your next electrical project for just $111! They were good, they spent extra time because the job was a bit more difficult. They rewired everything, removed the original sockets from the walls and moved them underneath the cabinets. I am still waiting for the final bill, so I am not sure how to grade the price and overall experience until I see it.
Description of Work: They moved wall outlets to under the cabinet.

The service was fine. It was a big deal purchase. There was no additional charge. The price was very good. They were responsive and it was scheduled quickly. I think they arrived on time. I ended up using a different company many, many months later to do some work for me. I probably would call them instead.

I received A++ Service from Brian and his team at J.P. McCurdy Electrical Service. I'm new to Angie's List and I had a great experience dealing with this this electrical company. With being a new home owner it's tough to know whom you can and can't trust to due work at your house. I felt totally comfortable with hiring J.P. McCurdy after reading there reviews on Angie's List. Brian came out to my house and provided me with an estimate. He was on time, very pleasant to deal with, gave me a very fair price for work the needed to be performed, and I could tell he was honest about the work that needed to be upgraded. On my installation day I also meet Brian's crew and they where also very pleasant to deal with. My 200AMP service upgrade came out perfect and I could tell that they spent a lot of time with attention to detail. They basically took the time to due the job right and everything thing was done nice and neat. They also cleaned up all of the debris after they left. All in all, I would highly recommend anyone to hire J.P. McCurdy to due electrical work at your house. I'm a very satisfied customer!

It worked out fine with JP McCurdy Electrical Services. They did a good job. I waited almost six months to call them and they came out and took care of it. They want to replace the panel in the fire alarm so they gave me an estimate on that but I have yet to have that work done. They did tell me that it would need replacing because the box was made by a company that had some problems so they recommended in changing the box. The pricing was fine.
Description of Work: I had them install a ceiling fan and they gave me what was on the deal which was looking at my electrical box and doing some work on that. They also put the names on the switches.

It went very well. Tyler called beforehand and said he was running 15 minutes early (when does that happen?). He was great-- very professional, efficient, and respectful. I had 3 outlets that were 'dead'. I'd repeatedly checked the fuses and they all looked fine, so I was dreading it was some weird wiring problem in the walls (1935 house). But he pulled out every single fuse (in 2 large panels) and checked them first. Lucky he did because he found several that were either blown (without any signs) or hadn't been screwed in all the way/weren't making contact. I could've been taken for an expensive ride because none of the fuses looked burned out, but he started by double-checking the simplest fix. He then changed 2 wall switches and finished up in just over 2 hours. We also spent a bit of time discussing his submitting a bid to switch both panels to breakers. There was only one small unfortunate moment- when it came time to pay the bill. I was using a coupon where you pay $111. for $200.worth/work, which meant I'd owe an additional $20. for 2 hours (normally $220. but $130. with coupon), but I was charged for 3 hours because we'd gone over a bit and the company's policy is you 'pay for a full hour if you use any part of an hour'. I've never heard of this, and we'd spent at least that amount of time going over the details of their next potential job. Ironically, any advantage the coupon gave, was nullified by the 3rd hour. However, I reasoned that I could've paid a great deal more if Tyler hadn't double-checked what did not appear to be the problem. And for me, a contractor who checks all lesser possibilities before jumping to an expensive conclusion, is invaluable. Plus, I liked Tyler's respectful demeanor. I will definitely use them again

I purchased a Big Deal for electrical services and scheduled repairs to two identical bathroom exhaust fan motors. I told them what I thought the unit model numbers were. The electrician called on the morning of the appointment to say that he would be arriving late, and I appreciated that. When he did arrive he determined within 15 minutes that the problem was as I had described and that the unit model numbers were correct. He then left to purchase the parts and returned about 90 minutes later with two complete units, not just the motors. I asked if I would need to pay for the complete units, which cost twice as much as the motors alone, and he said yes. I asked why, and he said and quot;the storeand quot; did not have the motors. I told him, after reconfirming it quickly online, that I could have purchased the motors directly from the manufacturer NuTone, or from Amazon, and had them waiting for installation. After consulting with his main office, he said his company did not do that because they wanted to confirm the correct model number and they did not stock these units. Because I did not want to waste another day with this, I agreed to pay the additional cost [about $100] and have the work done. The work then was done within 20 minutes. The bill was for 3 hours of time, and I questioned that, since he was only present in my home for 35 minutes. He explained that he had given me a discount for the time he spent going and quot;to the store, and quot; about 90 minutes, but that the total time was still over two hours and they charged for each hour or fraction thereof. In the end there was a charge of about $220 for two new light/fan units when the motors sell for about $50 each, and another $20 for the new switch. The labor charges were about $285 for work that took, all told, less than one hour. I fully understand that labor charges also involve some travel time, but I could have easily driven to Home Depot, bought the parts, and returned within 40 minutes. Furthermore, they could have explained to me at the outset that if I were to confirm the model numbers--which I could have easily done had I known they do not stock the units/parts--then they would have brought the necessary parts and not wasted time, and my money, and quot;going to the store.and quot; I could also have ordered the parts from Amazon, and even if they were not the correct parts, I could have returned them with no cost. In summary, the work was done correctly, but the procedures were unfair. They knew from the beginning that if they found exactly what I described, then they would have to go find parts, since they did not stock them. They could have told me. I find this to be quite unfortunate and very disappointing.

I always compliment vendors communicating well by emails. And this vendor did it very well. All emails exchanged for appointments were done with intervals of 15 minutes each. (If you are busy at work during daytime and hence use on-line service like Angie's to find a contractor, what's the point of trying to reach each other by countless number of voice messages.) Service was professional and punctual. The electrician, John, was very friendly and informative. They seem to be specialized in data line and fire alarm installations, but also very capable of doing regular electrical services. I have not hired them for a larger project yet; but am hoping they come back with reasonable quote on the project we discussed and provide a good review on them.
Description of Work: The service was provide as part of promotion to install an outdoor electrical box for $125. Services provided: Inspected all electrical system of our 1908 house. Spent approximately 45 minutes walking through outlets and advising me what work can be done to improve them. Inspect service panels. Installed an outdoor electrical box.

I couldn't be happier. They were very accommodating to my schedule, in fact they let me reschedule because of too much snow in the area nearest to the light. I didn't exactly think that through before buying the deal, but they didn't have a problem postponing. The electrician arrived when expected and did the job quickly. I feel like I got a good value for the money, and now have one less problem on the list. Plus I now have someone to call for additional work inside my house.

It went very well. It was a mess before they got here; there was a lot of work to do. There lead guy was Tyler and he was great - knowledgeable, punctual, and friendly. I'm the furthest thing from being a handyman, much further from being an electrician. Each item we walked through was explained to me fully. Tyler and his coworker called 15 min ahead of time, showed up on time (w/in the one hour window), kept me posted of what was going on (e.g. we need to turn off power), and executed all the work as described. Our house was not well kept, and many contractors will complain to us about how bad the job is. These guys were nothing but professional, acknowledged it was a big scope, and just hammered it out. I would use them again in the future and recommend them to anyone in the area.
Description of Work: Our electrical infrastructure was a mess... we needed a new panel because one was overloaded and identified as a fire hazard by the inspector. Nothing was labeled in the panels. Electrical cables hung from the ceiling unsafely and many boxes were overloaded and not closed properly. Lastly, all of our kitchen outlets were out. They came here, did a walk through, provided an estimate, and came onsite the next day after I accepted the quote. All the work was completed as promised.

I was recommended to these guys by my handyman who didn't have a licensed electrician on hand. I needed a licensed electrician so the handyman could not do it. I called up JP and they seemed nice enough. They set up a time about a week out and I figured it would be set. I explained how quick the job was. On the day on the service I had my wife stay at home. The 11AM so it wasn't a huge deal. He could do the job in under 5 minutes and she could get the kids. About 25 minutes before the appointment the guy called me. He gave me the sob story of how his other job was running late, blah blah blah. I said no problem. This wasn't a big job, I know that, so no biggie. He said he would be there at 2PM. OK, so I told my wife when to be back at the home. Then at 2:15 he called me. Surprise surprise he was still running late. OK I told him, no problem. When will you be there. He gave me another time. Shocker, he wasn't there at that time either. But by this point he was texting and told me he was 5 minutes away. Of course he wasn't, but that's fine. When he finally saw what I needed he got upset because it was a waste of his time. Literally got upset that I dare bothered him to fix something for me. A few minutes (like 3) he was done and left. About a week later I received a call from the company. They needed my email to send the bill. I paid for it, etc. They had the AUDACITY to write that they gave me a "discount". There was no breakdown or costs, nothing. Just a total that said "discount included". $140 and they were late, and complained. How much would this have been if they were on time and I didn't get that "preferred client discount"??? Do yourself a favor and look them up on the internet and see the other reviews of them.

9/9/14 UPDATE - I was contacted today stating I have an outstanding balance due for work performed 7 months ago. This is the first I am hearing about it because it seems they have been sending the invoices to the wrong email address since February 2014. So I recieved a phone call and quickly discovered why I wasn't responding because I wasn't getting any of the emails (emails not sent to my email address). I have adjusted my ratings with this new information and along with the higher cost of the project. So for a Angie's List deal that cost $849 this ended up costing $1224 in the end (7months after I thought this was finished and done) I actually thought because of the mess up earlier I was being compensated in getting some extra thrown in but that was not the case. 2/5/14 UPDATE - After contacting Angie's List and representative contacted them about not the above problem things quickly changed and everything started moving along. I was able to schedule the work very quickly and the 2 workers came and were very punctual and polite, even helped me to move one of the heavier items I couldn't move myself to allow them access to the area they needed. The panel was upgraded within a few hours but I forgot to ask about the surge protection portion of the deal. The high amperage dryer outlet was added with minor troubles (due to the house construction and the wall was weak) and that looks fine. The only part I am waiting on is the final price of work since this did go above the scope of the Big Deal, so I expect there will be one more update to write when that arrives. So I bumped up a number of my grades as necessary since I could fairly grade work that has been performed. The initial inspection was great. He called before arriving and if I remember correctly was running a bit late but conveyed that over the phone. He told me I would be eligible to swap out what I have within the rules of the Big Deal (fuse panel and circuit breakers for just a larger circuit breaker panel) so I waited as long as I could for the quote but had to purchase the Big Deal before it expired. I waited about a week and heard nothing. After calling he asked me to send an email to him to reply to, saying maybe Gmail put his message in my Spam folder (I looked back 2 full months of messages were in there but nothing from him or his company) but I sent him an email to respond to and within a day or so I got my proposal back. The quote had the Big Deal and work in it and because I mentioned the possibility of an extra outlet being needed he supplied a secondary quote for that. The permit fees are not listed but a "permit application fee" is listed, I have asked for this to be clarified. I waited a week and no response so I sent the forwarded my question to someone else in the company hoping to get an answer and still nothing after a month. The work hasn't been done yet and they could be very busy because they keep offering "Big Deals" but that is no excuse for not responding to a request for information, and I've already given them money and after a certain length of time that deal will expire.
Description of Work: Bought the Big Deal for installing a larger circuit panel then I currently have (actually house has both circuit panel plus small fuse box). Also added an electrical outlet for a dryer.

It took several days to schedule an appointment and another week for them to get here. Two very pleasant young men arrived a half hour early. They checked on the first area where I was having problems, then when I asked for an estimate, mentioned there was a $30 and quot;travel fee.and quot; This was a surprise as it was not mentioned on the web site (which indicated that my town was within their service range) or by the office when I booked the appointment. They also noted that I was an Angie's List customer. Two problems were fixed relatively quickly, so I had them look at a third problem. They decided this was a shorted out wire and didn't have time to look at it further, but I could reschedule. I had other chores for them but decided to send them home. While compiling the bill and chatting with one of the two, the other wandered off. I don't know if he was in the bathroom or closing up the cellar.
Description of Work: Replaced fuses, diagnosed shorted out wire.
