. We asked them to call if they would be very late or not coming at all and they never did. They installed a downspout in the wrong place and had to come back to fix it. Again not showing up when they said they would. We now have permanent holes in out aluminum siding because of their mistakes. They broke one of our front porch windows which they had to fix.. My husband had to show them how to lift the bottom piece on my replacement windows so they could tuck aluminum trim underneath it. Before that instruction, they told him it couldn't be done and had actually started doing it incorrectly.. He has a sheet metal background but was unable to do the job because of physical limitations. When he commented on their work and offered suggestions in a note it was met with sarcasm .However , it turned out that his suggestions were right and were eventually done the way he suggested. They left one section of trim not nailed for 3 months and we didn't know until my husband went up on the roof . We had to call them back ..again. We wanted a window in our stand up attic to let the light, When we went upstairs to see it, the installer had installed a bathroom private window, cloudy glass and asked if we wanted it . Of course we said no . He knew what we wanted but had ordered the wrong window Again, had to wait for the new window.. They had to come back several time because the gutters leaked because they had sealed them while they were wet. They put the trim around our bathroom window incorrectly and it couldn't be opened. Again, they had to redo it. I found the contractors urinating in the back of my yard ,by my neighbors fence and had to tell them not to do this to please use our bathroom and not to use our yard as a toilet. Cigarett butts were all over the yard and had to clean them up every day even after putting a coffee can out for them. There were so many other things we didn't like about this experience, We would never hire them again.
Description of Work: covered all trim on house with aluminum and put new hangers on gutters and installed 20ft of new gutters. A new attic window was also installed.

The roof was a bit of a headache. Conrad and I agreed that after stripping the roof, any wood that needed to be replaced would be replaced. I got home from work after the roof work was finished, and went into the attic to find that none of the wood had been replaced (some of the wood was in clear need of repair). In some of those areas, the shingles were nailed into nothing (no wood behind them) or they were nailed into strips of aluminum that were used to cover the holes in the roof. I called Conrad, and he was very fast to respond. Jim was the supervisor and was also very responsive and apologetic. They came to look at the roof and agreed that more had to be replaced. I was happy. Unfortunately, this happened 3 additional times due to incomplete work. This was a huge inconvenience and very invasive, as there were multiple mornings that I had to let the roofers in and lead them into my attic before work. In the end, though, the work was completed and my attic is bone dry - there have been a few rain storms and I haven't seen any water. The porch was done well. It was originally rotted out completely, and had a second floor above it so it was not an easy job. While taking down the porch they noticed some rotted wood and bricks that needed to be replaced and they did that. At one point they did cut through an interior wall by mistake, but they patched the hole and offered to provide paint for the wall. Since the work there have been issues with water flooding in my basement. After investigating the source of the flood, I found a downspout that was missing an elbow and dumping water right next to the side of the house where the flooding was the worst. I called Conrad up and within a day or two Jim was out to take a look and the gutters were fixed. UPDATE When the porch was built, some shrubs were right up against the building and hid a lot of the work. After removing the shrubs, I saw a lot of finish work that looked extremely sloppy. Corners weren't lined up, lattice was wavy, finish work in the porch looked lazy and worst of all, an entire wall was curved (see photos). I also noticed one of the windows in the porch was not square, and the window itself would not close properly. I was told the original steps from the porch were OK to reuse, and found out later that they were actually rotted. I sent an email with photos to Conrad and he replied quickly, came out to look, and agreed that it needed to be fixed. He assured me it would be. He hired carpenters to come out and fix the problems. They were polite and knew what they were doing - one of the first things they told me was my steps were actually illegal. When the porch was rebuilt, it was slightly higher and the top step was two inches too high. Conrad tried to charge me $500 to have the steps replaced, but in the end they were replaced free of charge per the original contract. Most (not all) of my complaints were addressed, and the porch looks 100 times better now (see updated photos). My only remaining complaint has to do with the siding. To fix the curved wall, they stripped the siding and built the wall out so it looked straight (they did not reframe the porch, so this is a superficial fix). When the siding was stripped, I have to assume it was damaged, because it had to be replaced. They tried to get a match to the original siding, but in the end it's not that close (see photo). Again I am left with a solution that appears cheap and lazy. The porch looks better now, but it is almost September and this project started at the beginning of the year. Conrad was extremely responsive and made efforts to fix all the mistakes, but the number of mistakes I feel is still inexcusable. For that reason I will not be returning to them for any future work, and would not recommend them to others. FINAL UPDATE The company response says all my issues were taken care of which isn't exactly the case but I got tired of dealing with them to be honest, it's been probably 20 visits to my home to fix mistakes that were made along the way and the finish work on the inside of the porch is still very poor (the aluminum work around the windows looks awful). Basically, they fixed all the major (in other words, STRUCTURAL) problems with the work and I decided to stop working with them. I'll work on the other stuff as time goes on. Other member reviews here echo my experience almost exactly, and I will not use them again in the future. Your mileage may vary.

It went well. The workers were terrific, worked quickly, and they did a great job. My house is much more energy efficient than it used to be, and I feel as though the price was very fair.

Response from HALLMARK HOMES
Yes, we did have a few problems on this job unfortunately, I can't give you a formula for success but I can give you one for failure, try and please everyone, the problems they had were minor, but to them a big problem so I understand why were so upset. That's what so great about living in America, one voice can mean something. We never received our completion payment of ten thousand dollars and I told them in the beginning that if they weren't happy with my work don't pay me and they didn't, again because we live in America we as business owners can do something to keep our reputation. This was the only time I didn't get paid for work that we had done since we have been in business. We have been in business for over 40 years and we have had only a handful of complaint and we did take car of them, on this particular job we weren't allowed to go back and take care of the problems. We have done over 4000 thousands jobs and to get a few complaint will happen in this business. I know you can do a 1000 things right no one knows about it, but one thing wrong and a 1000 people know about it, which is good, it keeps everyone on their toes. Five years have gone by that's why I decided to post my response to this complaint. Yes, we have felt the loss of business because of this incident but we run a good ship and we continue to do so, enjoy and GOD BLESS Conrad Mc Kinney President
