Tarso looked over the job, explained what needed to be done and I supplied the piece of vinyl for the new floor. He's done a lot of work for us in the past, so I've gotten the feeling he can do anything. So I asked him how he made a template for the single piece, considering there was a tub along the wall with a built in thing at the end of it, pipes into the floor, a toilet, floor vent and pipe chase in the not so large space. He looked at me totally deadpan and said, "I have no idea." He has a sense of humor. I came back at the end of the day and found the floor was perfectly fitted, leveled and well sealed around all of its edges. Tarso and his helper were just cleaning up. He explained that the flooring beneath the linoleum (in this 115 yr. old house) was so not-flat that he had had to use floor leveler to get it right. The job took longer than had been planned because the leveler had to dry thoroughly. The original estimate had been $350 but he asked if we could do $400 because the two of them had had to be there so long. It seemed more than fair and I was happy to pay. Knowing him, if I had objected at all he would have taken the $350 no problem.
Description of Work: Tarso and his helper ripped up the old linoleum flooring in a bathroom of our 1890's 2 family. It had been leaking around the tub and curling at the edges. He replaced the subfloor that needed replacing, leveled it, and put down new one piece vinyl.

There are too many repairs to tell all the stories. The bathroom renovation required stripping the walls, putting in new walls, adding a sink vent where there was none before, a glass shower with a mud job floor, new toilet, new sink, new medicine cabinet, fan with vent to the outside, etc. All came out well. The bulkhead job required building from scratch a wooden (cedar) bulkhead to replace the hold one that had rotted out. It is the same style as the old one and fits with our historic house.
Description of Work: Tarso Oelke at Eloi Construction has done many jobs at my house over the last few years from simple jobs such as cleaning and oiling gutters to a complicated bathroom remodel, indoor painting, outdoor painting, fence repair, misc carpentry repairs, rebuilding a cedar bulkhead doorway, etc. His work has been excellent, done in a timely manner. He is honest and reliable and his prices are fair. He takes care to do the job right and stands by his work. He also has good subcontractors that he can call on for other work such as roofers and plumbers.

I called Eloi Construction (Tarso Oelke is the owner) from having seen him build a two story addition across the street, examining the work inside and out and hearing the neighbor's enthusiastic recommention. We needed six different things done to our very tired 1890's Victorian two family. Tarso went over each step with me, discussed different ways to approach the work, made suggestions and offered good options. We agreed on prices for each step and the work proceeded to be done in stages over two months. He and his workers were quick, efficient and the quality of the work was always excellent. Tarso kept me informed of progress by e-mail, discussed suggestions along the way was clear and accurate about his timing and schedule. Several times they worked late to get a job finished. Tarso clearly takes great pride in doing excellent work and doing his best to please the customer. I would recommend him for just about any kind of building job.
Description of Work: 1) More or less dismantled the lower of two front porches, poured a concrete footing and rebuilt or replaced the stairs, railings, balusters, posts and lattice, as well as the very old joists and beams that supported the porch. Except for the floor boards themselves, the visible portions were replaced with vinyl and Azek at my request because this area is damp, always in the shade and required frequent maintenance. The quality of the work was superb and the whole job looks wonderful. 2) Poured three concrete footings in the basement and replaced the jacks and cedar posts with lally columns. Not only was the work well done but they cleaned up the entire floor area as it had never been cleaned before. 3) The mortar of one interior fifteen foot section of the old fieldstone cellar wall had crumbled out so badly in places that light could be seen through at night. They completely cleaned out the old mortar and re-mortared the wall inside and out (crawling under the porch). Great job. 4) Same problem on one exterior corner of the foundation so that water was entering the basement when it rained. Cleared out old mortar and redid it. Excellent job and they cleaned out the house-length 25 foot high gutter as a courtesy. 5) Repaired and re-mortared the fieldstone walls to the bulkhead leading down into the cellar, built new stairs and replaced the old wooden hatch with a new steel one. 6) Remove and replaced a door frame and door to an old one room addition on the side of the house. This was very tricky because the addition had sagged on its insufficient footing, the door had been framed and installed non-standard by an amateur and the whole house and addition had been sided in vinyl with aluminum doorframe coverings. No angles were right, no sizes were standard and the old siding had to come out looking right. Tarso got the new door and frame to match up just right and redid all the exterior vinyl and aluminum framing to match perfectly. They then rebuilt the sad wooden entry landing and stairs to match the front porch. Again, beautifully done. .
