Bob Mahoney Electric

Overall very good. He was nearly a half hour late and took several phone calls while on my job, but everything else was great.

The problem was a Circuit break for exterior outlets, lights, and sump pump which would not stay on. We checked Angie's List for an A recommended local electrician and called Bob Mahoney Electric and scheduled a time. Bob arrived a little ahead of the agreed time. We discussed the problem. He checked the electrical panel, and outlets. The trouble appeared to be in an exterior outlet with a cover installed upside which had gotten wet and a broken exterior light. When the outlet dried out, the circuit breaker worked. The cover was removed and re-installed correctly. A new exterior light fixture was installed. The problems were resolved and we have not had trouble with it since.

lBob was responsive and worked to make an appointment in a quick turnaround. He assessed the electrical problem, explained it to me, ordered a part from a supplier. Part delivered a couple days later and Bob arrived the next morning as scheduled to complete the work. Absolutely a positive experience and would recommend Bob most highly!!!

Very responsive and quick service which was nice. But dumb me - I did not hammer down a price in advance and just went with other reviews that the price would be fair. After my initial request for service (no emergency) I was told a time frame of between 12:30 and 1:30. Ok- that was great and faster than expected. I got a phone call just within the initial time frame that the person doing the work was on his way. He arrived about 1/2 an hour or so later. The electrician was very nice and knew what he was doing. I had all the supplies ready including the new alarms and batteries that I had purchased previously. The job itself was relatively quick and easy - he worked in the house less than an hour. I walked with him back to the truck where he called in to the office for the bill amount. It came to 180.00! Honestly I did not know what to say and am still in shock. The bill seems extremely pricey for what what a fairly simple and straight forward job. In comparison, I had a different electrician do some work here a year ago. It was a much more complicated job and he charged me less than 1/2 the price of what I paid today. Bottom line: get the price in advance. Shop around. Use them if speed and reliability is important but be prepared to pay for it.

They might as well call Bob "The Mailman," because Mahoney Electric ALWAYS delivers! Before Bob came by, the electrical work in my newly-purchased South-End condo was a mess. Light switches were wobbly and askew, most outlets were in locations that didn't make any sense and others sat precariously loose in their housings, there was very little built-in lighting, and conduit was mounted on the outside of wall because the previous owners were too cheap to properly install a new circuit in the kitchen. Within a few visits, Bob was able to turn all of that around. To start, he and Pete were able to install nine recessed lights and prepare the wiring for several new outlets in just over one visit. After seeing the quality of their work, it wasn't difficult to find new areas of my house that Mahoney electric could improve, and he became my go-to electrician. Beyond our initial project, he's helped me move a number of old outlets to more sensible locations, add more cable jacks, snake a circuit that ran from my bedroom to the living room, and replace a ratty old bathroom fan. All of the work Bob has done has been clean and tight, and it looks and feels quality. The products he suggests are top-notch yet economical, and I've been complimented numerous times on the recessed lights he put in. To be honest, at first I thought the bathroom fan he had installed was broken because I could barely hear it -- and my old fan whirred up a storm but barely drew in any air. However, after taking a steamy 15-minute shower with the new fan on, I stepped out to find a clear mirror and absolutely ZERO moisture outside of my shower. With my old fan, a shower like that would have left condensation on everything including the toilet paper holder. Apparently, this is the difference when things are done RIGHT! It's hard to say enough about Bob and his team, because after working with three other top-ranked Angie's List contractors on other projects, Mahoney Electric still stood out over the rest. Time after time, Bob was able to impress me by how cleanly he could complete a project. I was worried that he would have to take half the ceiling down in my 120 year-old building to install the recessed lights. When I returned, I found that, other than my new beautiful lights, there were no signs any work had been done other than a few discreet rectangular holes (1" wide and 3" tall) in the corners of my walls, which were a breeze to patch. Mahoney Electric was consistently clean regardless of the project, and other than the quality work they left behind, there was no other indication that anyone had been in my home. Bob Mahoney (the man, not the company) was considerate, efficient, accessible, and thoughtful. This was my first electrical project, and he patiently -- but efficiently-- helped me consider the options. It was clear he cared about all the right things -- from listening carefully to what I wanted to making sure he left my place tidy. Both he and the company were a pleasure to work with.

I called Bob yesterday and he came to my house at 7am today and kept working until the job was finished, 11:45 am. He was professional, didn't mind questions or having me looking over his shoulder. Bob did an excellent job with running a new line for my new fridge. He also rewired an outlet that had been faulty. I recommend him and would definitely call him again if I needed any further electrical work.

Bob showed up about 35 minutes late. He came and looked at what I wanted done. I appreciated his honesty about having the gentlemen that installed the wiring for my place do the wiring work as it would take Bob quite a bit of time to figure out what they had done. I told him of some other things I wanted done. He left and told me he would put together a quote by the end of the day. My impression was that he felt the job was going to be to small to be worth his time. To date I have yet to receive and estimate from him as promised.

Experience was frustrating. I hope not find more of so call "professional" like him listed here.

It took a week to hear back from him from the initial email to set up a time to stop by to review the project. Which I was fine with but then, on the day/time we agreed to meet, he didn't show. I ended up calling him since he was late to check on his status and was told he meant to call the night before to say he couldn't make it. Not only did he not call the night before, he didn't bother to call at all. I had to call him. I told him I'd find another provider.

Great experience. Received quote over the phone. Came out 2 days later and did the job perfectly. The only negative was that the walls weren't patched up great. But I would definitely use their services again.

Bob was perfect. I called him Monday afternoon to discuss problems with the intercom/access system in our six-unit association, and we arranged for him to come out the next day to check it out. He called me in transit to let me know he was on the way. When he arrived, he promptly diagnosed the problem and repaired it in less than 10 minutes. He even had a special key to open intercom systems like mine, which in my book makes him a top choice for intercom work. He was friendly and professional and didn't mind explaining to me how the system worked, how systems like this usually last and/or break, and what to watch out for. I will never use anyone else for intercom work, and he's also my best go-to electrician now as well.

Bob is prompt friendly and does a thorough job. We had had instances where we needed Bob immediately and he has been over quickly. We've propbably used him 10 times and have always been happy with his work. All of our projects have been smaller scale.

I sent my e mail requesting an estimate on Wednesday. They were in contact soon after and someone was here on Thursday. The price was right so I went ahead and had the work done. He was prompt, courteous, and went out of his way to complete the job. The mess was cleaned up and the holes that were made to run the wires were filled before all was done. I'm very happy with this work!

Bob was prompt, gave me a good price, arrived and finished the work on the set date. The workmanship was excellent. I would use him again.

Mr. Mahoney did a great job. He showed up on time, completed the job in a relatively short time and cleaned the work area perfectly.

This was really a great experience. Having not ever had to call in an electrician, and dreading what the bill would be for a job that lasted 7 hours, I was shocked at how reasonable the price was in the end. The employee who did the jobs I needed done did great work, explained what he was doing throughout the day, and was a complete professional in every way. I'll definitely use Mahoney Electric in the future, and would recommend them highly to anyone interested in getting electrical work done! What a relief to have this work done!

He did a great job. He was prompt and accommodating. He cleaned up after himself. It only took one day to do the jobs.

Answered phone on first call, got me a copy of his insurance certificate right away, showed up when he said he would, got the job done. Used the remaining hour to clean up some loose ends. Friendly, professional, didn't complain. Only downside was hourly rate was on the steeper side ($250/hr) but I'm willing to pay for the above.

I left a message for Bob on a Holiday weekend, he replied the following day. We set up an appointment for two days later. He was prompt, clean and professional.

I called Bob to get an estimate on how much it would cost to fix an intercom in a brownstone in the South End. He told me it was his specialty and that he was just in my neighborhood the same day. He gave me an estimate of $80 plus supplies. He was able to come to my apartment the next morning and he fixed the intercom in less than 20 minutes. He was extremely professional and friendly. To compensate for arriving late, he gave me a ride to my office. I would definitely recommend him as well as use him again for any electrical needs that may arise.

Bob came in and got the job done. He easily did the troubleshooting necessary to do the right repairs and then quickly executed,

I emailed Bob on Thursday morning and within approximately 30 minutes, he called me and provided an estimate for the service. (We ended up paying more due to our purchase of dimmers, but the estimate for the fixture installations remained the same.) He arrived within the expected time frame the next day (Friday morning) and installed the fixtures. Overall, the experience was very positive. Bob was friendly and efficient. He provided helpful suggestions about replacing our incandescent recess light bulbs with halogen recess lights. He even gave us a light bulb so that we could see the difference, which is quite noticeable, as it turns out. I expect to use Bob again in future home projects.
