We were experiencing periodic leaking in several spots in the house. The roof is only 5 years old and another roofing company told us the whole roof would have to be replaced (at a cost of $9,500) because of shoddy workmanship. Bob Milliard came over inspected the roof and told us in the areas that were leaking the vents were improperly installed and the pipe sleeves were the wrong size.
Description of Work: Replaced air vents, shingles and pipe sleeves.

Roofing repairs were estimated, after insurance company had approved the cost the schedule was set for following week. Before the scheduled date for repairs arrived we had a large snowstorm, so the contractor, removed snow to avoid potential leaks and then repaired roofing at first possible time near holiday and in between projected storms. So far so good! After having heavy snow and lots of ice on roof all winter the heating elements installed (melting wires) worked great and no leaks in any areas that were fixed. Also very responsive, came when promised and worked under some extreme conditions.
Description of Work: Roofing repairs on a 10 year old roof that was not done properly by the building contractor when the house was built. Robert Milliard roofing actually took photos of the damage and work not properly done with my digital camera so I could witness exactly what needed to be done. Our house had a very steep pitched roof and ice damns are common in the winter, snow remains on the roof for a long time and really piles up. Contractor said he had never seen as much snow and ice on any roof. The house is also a Queen Anne style and has many peaks, and gullys so it is not your easiest roof to fix. Repairs made to some areas, and heating wires were placed where needed.

Robert Milliard was the lowest bidder out of two bids. The work entailed stripping two layers of old roofing, and replacing it with 30 year shingles of my color choice. He also recommended a ridge vent which was included as well as a new vent pipe. He did an excellent job of cleaning up the visible debris; however, he apparently did not completely protect the gutters when stripping the old roof. I had the gutters flushed after the roofing work was completed resulting in a 30 gallon bag which was better than half full of roofing debris as well as ground debris in a local area resulting from the gutter flushing. This debris is very heavy and difficult to dispose of since the city does not take construction debris. I called Robert and he promised to clean it up the following Saturday which was December 15. I'm still waiting for him to show up. I waited to submit this report after experiencing several storms and I'm glad to say there have been no problems so far.

I never got to meet the owner as he was over an hour and a half late for the appointment and I had to get back to work. My wife met with them and they were able to start right away. We were having serious water intrusion into the house in about a 10 foot area on the lip of a roof above a flat dormer. They quoted us $1600 to remove the snow and ice and $450 to install heating cables in the specific area. I had snow and ice remove last year from the entire roof and it cost me $300. That company could not come that day. Robert Miller could, I felt like I was seriously getting taken for, but was little I could do about it since I needed it done now. They came back a couple days later to install the heating wire which they installed it mostly in the right area. They ran the cable too widely spaced and too far up the roof from the edge. I turned the cable on about 8 hours before the next snow fall and it is only melting about 2 to 3 inches around the cable that runs in a S pattern up and down the roof. So the lip of the roof where the ice forms has several 2 foot sections that are still icing up and the cables are melting snow above the ice that is making the water situation worse. Will never use these guys or recommend them to anything. I know times are tough but taking advantage of people and performing a job that I will have to have redone by someone else for more money is terrible.

I AM THE OFFICE MANAGER FOR ROBERT MILLIARD ROOFING AND ALSO THE LADY WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE CALL FROM THE MEMBER. ON DECEMBER,23,08 @ 9:25 AM HE ASKED IF OUR COMPANY REMOVED SNOW AND ICE FROM ENTIRE ROOFS, I TOLD HIM THAT WE DID BUT WERE INUNDATED WITH PHONE CALLS FOR THIS MAJOR SNOW AND ICE PROBLEM, HE ASKED IF I COULD GET SOMEONE BY THAT DAY TO REMOVE EVERYTHING FOR HIM. I TOLD HIM I COULD BUT WAS UNSURE OF A POSITIVE TIME AS WE HAD 10 CALLS PRIOR TO HIS CALL BUT WE WOULD GET TO HIM, NOT TO WORRY. I INFORMED HIM OF THE COST TO REMOVE SNOW AND ICE FROM A 3 STORY HOME AND HE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THE COST. I EXPLAINED TO HIM,HIS HOME WAS LARGE AND THE CONDITIONS OF THE WEATHER WAS VERY DANGEROUS,HE SAID HE UNDERSTOOD AND NEEDED IT DONE RIGHT AWAY AND HE EXPECTED TO BE AROUND THE PRICE I QUOTED HIM....WE ARRIVED TO DO THE JOB AND YES THE MEMBER WAS HOME AND DID SPEAK WITH ROBERT MILLIARD FOR SEVERAL MINUTES ABOUT HEATING WIRES,SO THE COMMENT ABOUT NOT MEETING THE OWNER IS A LIE,I ALSO SPOKE WITH THE MEMBER SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PHONE. I CALLED HIM A FEW DAYS LATER TO GIVE HIM A QUOTE ON THE HEATING WIRES AND HIS RESPONSE TO $450.00 TO INSTALL THEM WAS FINE 'LETS GO AHEAD AND DO THEM'. NOW FOR HIM TO WANT US TO DO THE HEATING WIRES AND HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE COST,WHEN IF HE WAS UNHAPPY WITH THE COST OF REMOVAL OF SNOW AND ICE WHY WOULD HE WANT US TO COME BACK TO DO ANYTHING MORE FOR HIM SPEAKS FOR IT SELF...SOME CUSTOMERS JUST WANT THERE WORK DONE FOR NOTHING,AND AFTER THE FACT BAD MOUTH A COMPANY,I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW THE COMPANY HE SAYS REMOVED HIS SNOW AND ICE FOR $300.00 MUST HAVE BEEN OUT OF THERE MIND, THEY PROBABLY IF SUCH IS TRUE HAD NO INSURANCE OR PAID THERE PEOPLE SLAVE LABOR.THERE IS NO COMPANY OUT THERE FOR SUCH PRICE...THE MEMBER WANTED SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. COMPANY'S LIKE OURS DO NOT NEED CUSTOMERS LIKE HIM.TO LIE AND NOT BE TRUTHFUL.OUR REPORTS SPEAK FOR THEM SELVES,THIS IS JUST A PERSON WHO DIDN'T WANT TO PAY TO HAVE SOMEBODY COME OUT THE SAME DAY AND TAKE CARE OF HIS PROBLEM MAYBE HE SHOULD LIVE IN A WARM CLIMATE SO HE DOESN'T FEEL LIKE HE IS BEING TAKEN FOR A RIDE!WE PROVIDED A GREAT SERVICE FOR HIM AND IN RETURN WAS BAD MOUTHED BY HIM,I HOPE FOR HIS SAKE THERE IS NO MORE HEAVY SNOW BECAUSE IF ANY OF OUR FELLOW ROOFING COMPANY'S GET A CALL FROM HIM,I PERSONALLY WILL TELL THEM TO STAY CLEAR,HE WANTS THINGS DONE FOR NOTHING.TO FUTURE CUSTOMERS LOOK AT THE REST OF OUR REPORTS THEY ARE ALL A'S AND B'S WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU. MY HOPE IS THIS CUSTOMER NEVER NEEDS HIS ROOF REPLACED,I FEEL SORRY FOR THE COMPANY WHO WORKS FOR HIM,IN HIS MIND THERE ALSO WILL BE A PROBLEM FOR THE COST OF ANY WORK DONE FOR HIM! HE GOT JUST WHAT HE PAID FOR HIS HOUSE IS BIG AND SHOULD HAVE COST HIM MUCH MORE.HE COULD HAVE SAID NO TO OUR QUOTE WHEN I TOLD HIM,BUT HE DIDN'T BECAUSE HE KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE IN THE PRICE RANGE I QUOTED HIM... NOBODY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HIM,OUR COMPANY PRIDES IT'S SELF ON QUALITY WORK AND PRICE...I AM SORRY HE IS UPSET,BUT HE SAID HE WOULD NEVER HIRE US AGAIN THAT'S FINE I WOULD NOT WANT THIS COMPANY TO HAVE ANY CUSTOMERS LIKE HIM OR FOR THAT MATTER ANY OTHER COMPANY TO HAVE TO HAVE SUCH BOGUS REMARKS ABOUT THEM,WHAT'S TRUE IS TRUE AND WHATS A LIE IS A LIE. IT'S UNFORTUNATE SOME PEOPLE FIND IT HARD TO TELL THE TRUTH!!!!WE PROVIDE GREAT WORK AND QUALITY WORK AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.

I called mid-morning Dec 23 and left a message. Barbara returned my call within 2 hours and gave me an estimate. She said the crew would be out by the end of the day. Since it was supposed to rain heavily Dec 24, I was anxious to get the work done ASAP. Robert showed up about 4:45 PM on Dec 23 and dropped off a ladder and shovels and said his crew would be there first thing on Dec 24. They showed up at 7:30 AM and immediately began shoveling the roof.
Description of Work: Snow and Ice removal from the two roofs on my house-the upper roof is three stories up. There was 20" of snow on my roof and ice dams forming. A team of two cleared both roofs, shoveled the walkway and driveway which had gotten covered by the cleared snow. They asked if if we wanted the walkway widened before they left. They were concerned about wrecking plants near the walkway. Very nice job.

This was the third roofing company we had contacted for an estimate (the first two were referrals from friends, we got Bob's number off Angie's List). Within hours of leaving a message asking to arrange for an estimate, Barbara had returned my call and scheduled an appointment for a weekend morning. Bob and one of his crew arrived on time and after listening to our concerns, actually climbed up on the roof to assess what was needed (this was the ONLY company to do so). They were both on the roof a good 20-30 minutes. He took pictures of various problem areas that needed to be repaired, beyond what we already were aware of. A set of pictures and the estimate were hand delivered to our house the next day. The estimate included a 10% discount ($945) for being a member of Angie's List. We were given priority on the work schedule, again for being members of Angie's List. Bob, the owner, was on-site for the entire project. He explained what was being done every step of the way and also described each problem they discovered as the work proceeded, which were addressed at no extra charge. Obviously, this guy really knows roofs and roofing repair. The crew was extremely neat and cleaned up daily. Full attention was given to our job until it was finished. One day when they removed a wasp nest, I mentioned that we got wasps in our attic. Bob took the initiative to check out the attic window and determined that one of the trim boards was rotten out. He came back a few days AFTER the job was finished to replace that board for us free of charge. His comment was, "I discovered it, so I'll fix it." We trust him completely, and he will be the ONLY roofer we call in the future!
Description of Work: Repaired extensive damage from yearly ice dams over a 15 year period. Installed copper ice panels, installed two copper troughs, replaced vent pipes, replaced ridge vent, re-shingled stove pipe, replaced loose shingles, repaired leaking skylights, replaced damaged corner posts near copper troughs. In addition, over and above the estimate, they corrected various things the original builder had not done properly when the house was built, they cleaned out ALL of our gutters, and they replaced a rotted piece of wood near an attic window, at NO extra cost.

I called 3 companies to get a quote for this job. One company never called back, one company called back to say they think they still do this kind of work, and then called back three days later to say they no longer do this work. Then there was Bob from Robert Milliard Roofing. I received a call back the same afternoon and was told that Bob would be by to take a look at the roof. I received the quote the next day, and we scheduled the work to begin as soon as possible. They gave me a date to begin, and they arrived exactly the time they said they would and the job was completed in one day. I would recommend Bob for any roof work that might be needed and will be passing his name and number along to friends who may experience ice dams this winter or other roof work. Great job, Bob!!!!

It went extremely well, and I am a satisfied customer. Robert (the owner) came out the house twice before the job, first to evaluate, then to have the contract signed. The two-day job was scheduled for one week later, and done on-time and as desired. At each step, Robert and the company's coordinator Barbara were very responsive, and always called back in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Repaired two chimneys (replaced previous unsatisfactory tar job with metal flashing), added ridge vent on secondary roof, sealed & repaired three other pipe interfaces coming through roof. Original problem was leak at chimney, other work done because price was right.

Getting the different recommendations for fixing the roof was very confusing, but Bob's explanation for why we did NOT need the whole roof replaced yet was most persuasive. His original estimate was twice as high & included vinyl-siding, which we did not want. He agreed to take out the vinyl siding & just do the flange replacement, and dormer re-flashing. When he did the work, he found a surprise: the previous owners who had done the condo conversion had left the vent pipes connected to nothing, so that water was just pouring through the open hole vents into my ceiling. Instead of re-flanging, he took out one of the vent pipes (which was connected to nothing) and roofed it over. The other vent pipe, he explained, SHOULD be connected to the PVC plumbing pipes inside the house that vented from the toilets, but wasn't. The conversion's plumber had simply failed to connect the job. Milliard said it would cost too much to have him go ten feet down to connect the piping to the vent, and recommended that we get a handyman to come in through the top apartment's sheetrock and connect the pipes. That cost us only another $250.00. Milliard changed what he did but remained within the (lower-than-original) revised estimate.
Description of Work: I had leaks through my ceiling fixtures. We got estimates from 5 different companies. A few told us we needed a total roof replacement. Bob refused to give an estimate for that, saying we only needed the vent pipes flanges replaced, the dormers re-flashed, and roll roofing put in around the pipes. We chose him. I'm glad we did. I think now that the others were lying to us. It took us awhile to decide which company to use but he remained available.

Called Milliard Co. on the weekend and left a message. Office returned call and set up appointment for a few days later. Bob Milliard and a workman came to the house and talked about the job. Workman walked the roof while Bob detailed the work and offered recommendations for questions I had. Scheduled the work at an agreeable date about 2 weeks. In the meantime, specified material was delivered ahead of the job. Workers did the lob in 2 days and hauled off the waste with no trace of debris.

Initially the work was supposed to be just snow and ice removal from the roof. The roof was in such poor shape that we had to replace it. Since we went with the same company, the cost of the snow removal was subtracted from the price of the roof replacement. The roof was scraped clean of all old material and then layered with tar paper, a weather guard layer and finally shingles of the color we chose. The workers were very good and very accommodating. They even set up a special barrier/shingle stop to prevent shingles from flying into our neighbors yard which is separated from ours by only 6 feet and they did it in 4 days. Since our roof was almost 2200 square feet, the total cost per square foot for snow removal and roof replacement was $5.70 per sq. ft. I would recommend them as a very knowledgeable and professional company. The original cost of the replacement roof was $12000, but some of the underlying wood needed to be replaced. All in all it was a good, though expensive job.
Description of Work: We hired Milliard Roofing to clean the snow off our roof as we suspected that it was causing an ice dam and making the roof leak. The roof was initially cleaned of snow. The cleaners noticed that a lot of our roof tile was old, brittle, in some places missing and needed to be replaced. We hired the same company to replace the roof as whom cleaned the roof. The roof was stripped of the old tile, new tar paper, weather barrier and tiles were applied and the project was finished in 4 days. Total square footage of the roof is approximately 2200 sq. ft. Total cost (including snow removal, debris removal and second cleanup after snow melt): $12500.

Called because of flooding and needed estimates and repairs fast. Bob was the only roofer who came over the next morning (July 4th!) to provide an estimate. The estimate included best and worst case, with his estimate lower than others. As my wife was due soon, Bob promised to re-work his schedule to address our tight time frame. They started the work on time, took into account our many requests/restrictions, discussed the job, finished the work on time (working on weekends) and left the job as clean as when they arrived. Bob even pointed out areas of slate shingling that needed new flashings and fixed at no cost. It s been 3 months since the work was done, and not a leak since then. The bottom line is that Millard Roofing came right away to provide a quote when needed, submitted the most competitive quote, started the work on-time, finished the work on schedule and within budget. Our condo plans to use R. Milliard roofing for additional slate work.

Bob came out for an estimate, arrived on time and was prompt and courteous. Since my wife was home and I wasn't, he took photos of the problem spots for me to review. Barbara was quite thorough with her follow ups and managed the process and scheduling nicely. The work was completed on time (1 day) and everything was thoroughly cleaned. No complaints, would definitely hire again!

From the start the work did not go well. The crew were loud and swore continuously. Additionally, I'm still picking up their cigarette butts. They completed the work within a couple of days and everything seemed to be fine. Until the rains came! I found a couple of small leaks and when I called Bob and Barbara, I couldn't get either one of them on the phone for a return visit. I went up on the roof myself to see if there was something I could do, it turns out that they didn't caulk their nails. They just nailed through my roof and left!

Bob Milliard, the owner, came out promptly to provide an estimate. He examined our chronically leaky chimney from the ground, the roof, & inside the house. He listened carefully to our saga of previous "fixes" (new roof, 2 chimney caps, waterproofing of the bricks) that had failed to correct the leaking problem. His office manager, Barbara (wonderfully efficient & reassuring), followed up with an estimate & a date was set for the repair work. Bob was punctual and conscientious. He tested the re-pointing using the garden hose. He informed me that despite having had a new roof put on within the last 5 years, there was no evidence of recent work having been done in the chimney area. (Where there should have been 22 pieces of lead, there were only 3!) He came back out & took care of that problem as well. The leaking now seems 95% corrected & Bob has been back to check on things. He will return in a few days to try to bring that up to 100%. Here, at last, is someone you can trust!
Description of Work: Re-pointing was done to the brick work of the chimney as needed. On a subsequent visit, old tar and inadequate flashing were removed from the chimney/roof area and it was properly re-leaded and re-flashed.

This is an old farm house from the 1850's with newer additions and includes five chimneys, four vent pipes, eight dormers and multiple roof/house transitions. There was significant water damage of facia and soffits from old wood gutters as well as damaged cedar side at the dormer and roof transitions. This was obviously a major roofing job with many different elements involved. We had several companies, large and small, come to give estimates, and we are very happy to have chosen Robert Milliard to do this job. Bob gave a thorough and honest evaluation of the job required, addressed all the questions and concerns we had, and he inspired confidence in his abilities to perform the job. He talked about the copper work he ("boss", Bob) specialized in and about the carpenter (we came to call "young" Bob) who would do a great job on all the cedar siding and roofing and the trim work needed. Robert was one of four roofers that I had quote the job. He was the least expensive with the Angie's list discount (10% - which is amazing). The dumpster showed up the day before and the next morning 4 guys were on my roof. They worked over the weekend and by Monday they were done. The only thing that they did was to use automatic nail guns, which several of the other roofers said that they wouldn't use - I'm still not sure if this is a negative. At one point over the weekend Robert watched as my son and I were struggling to remove a small dead tree from the front yard and he volunteered his saws-all to take it out. A lot of people wouldn't have cared...Robert did a great job, he doesn't have a huge outfit - there won't be twenty men that you'll never see again crawling over your roof and replace it in a single day. But if you don't mind it taking a little extra time you can save a lot of money. The other quotes ranged from $11K to $8K.
Description of Work: Completely strip and re-roof the house. Add ridge vent, ice shield, drip edge (since the original roof didn't have any).

Robert himself came by for the estimate. He first climbed on the roof to get an idea, then we talked. This is where he lost me. Even though is a nice, patient guy, I didn't feel I could clearly communicate with him. And on such a large - OK expensive - project, I didn't want any miscommunication. His estimate was right there with the best I received.
Description of Work: The owner came by to perform an estimate of the work.

Great job. I'm so happy. It's rained twice and the roof hasn't leaked a bit. Bob did a great job and was very clean. The service with this company is really great: they return calls promptly and really worked with me on price and timing. They beat another roofer/chimney's repair price by $400. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: Chimney and roof were leaking. Roof needed to be re-leaded and sealed. Part of roof needed to be stripped down to bare decking and ice shield and shingles laid down. Vents needed to be replaced.

Very quick to respond. Dealt directly with installer. Formal proposal, quick and easy to understand. Extremely pleasant and helpful, kept the worksite tidy over the 2-1/2 days it took to complete. I was not able to independently verify the status of the firm's license using the Massachusetts registry. Roof failed three years after installation during heavy winter storms. Flashing had not been installed along one side, causing leaks into attic below and damage to ceilings. Shingles had not been installed at regular intervals, causing additional damage. Had entire roof removed and replaced by another installer for less money than the original repairs. Would not recommend anyone use this firm who had another choice.
Description of Work: Removed existing sheathing, two layers of shingles, and chimney flashing, installed new sheathing, ice shield, drip guard, shingles, and flashing over small (garage-sized) roof.
