Jay's Handyman Service

He did excellent work at my house recently! I would definitely call him again for my next project.

Jay responded to my phone call quite promptly, and we scheduled two days for the work, about a month after the call. I checked in with him a few days before the work was to begin to provide information about where to park. Jay arrived on the two consecutive days in the a.m. when he had said he would. He organized the work very efficiently and got the materials needed for two of the tasks. It took Jay less time than we had expected to complete the work, based on our experience with other handymen, and he did a very good job with each thing. He's the best handyman we've had over the years and we recommend him very highly.

This was a small project. His estimate was between $250 and $300 but it took a lot less time than anticipated so I really appreciated that. I'm actually thinking about using him to build me a new deck.

Jay's first visit went okay - he did hang the heavy, framed collage, reinsert a window screen and change an air filter - and he did call the night before to confirm he was going to be at my house. At the end of the first visit, he told me to purchase some things for his return visits: on 8/12/16 he'd power wash the deck, change the second air filter, and replace the hinges in 2 cabinets; and on 8/19/16, he would then do the deck and fence touch ups. He told me how much he was going to charge to do the work, and I agreed on the price. He then never showed up on the 8/12 and 8/19. I called him after he didn't show up on the 12th to find out what happened, and he never called back. When he didn't show up on or call about the 19th, I called him again and told him I wanted to give him a chance to explain what happened before writing this review. He finally called me back and said that he had no excuse. He thought maybe he hadn't written it down in the right place, although I'd seen him check his schedule and write it down in what appeared to be a calendar/scheduling book. When I asked him about it, he said he didn't get my first call. When I asked him if the work could be rescheduled, he said he was already so booked he couldn't reschedule. So, overall, I found Jay to be UNRELIABLE, both in his not showing up for work he'd agreed to and scheduled, and in his explanation. If I could give him a rating on a scale of 0 for all around bad to 10 for all around great, I'd rate this a 3 at best.

Service was great. We purchased the tile we wanted, and Jay and crew came in, tore up and disposed of the old and disgusting carpets and then placed the tile. The price was great compared to the other services we checked; they came on time and finished ahead of their estimates. At the end they vacuumed up the dust, and the floor has been awesome.

I called about 2 weeks ago during daytime of a weekday, but nobody answered the phone. To response the recorded message, I left a message asking whether he is interested in repairing one section of sidings on my house. It would be nice if he could give me a return call saying he were not interested intead of justing ignoring the phone call. That way I do not need to waste my time in waiting and move onto other providers sooner.

Hands down best home improvement experience ever. I've been using Jay for 13 years now. In this case he brought along two helpers. He scheduled us 2 months in advance and arrived with his crew on the very day he'd planned. That is a testament to Jay's organizational skills and responsiveness. He estimated three days, it took three days. He was clear on the hours they'd work, and they show up each day when they say they will and finish each day on schedule, clean up and store equipment neatly. I highly recommend Jay's Handyman Service.

Communication with Jay was excellent from the very start. He promptly arrived on time for the estimate. I received the written estimate within a week. We set a mutually agreeable date for the work. I primarily talked to Jay via email. He would usually answer within 24 hours in the evening. The job started on the day and time scheduled. They arrived prepared with all materials needed. The quality of the work was excellent. The craftsmanship of the guard rail was very good and matched the existing guard rail on the other side of the steps. They cleaned up the job site at completion and I was told Jay would send me a bill in the mail. I quickly received the bill which was a lower amount of the estimate. I had been told he likes to add a little more to the estimated price so that if any additional work is needed the price does not exceed it. In most cases however the estimated price is lowered given the actual cost of the project.

Last fall, I noticed that a vinyl siding panel on my home's exterior had slid out of place, exposing the wood frame underneath. I am a relatively new homeowner, and not a particularly handy one. Not possessing the know how, the equipment, or the confidence to address the problem myself, I called a few local handyman services. Very few responded, and of those few, no one thought it was worth their time to help me. However, Jay promptly responded to my email (his voice mail box was full), and offered to stop by to take a look. Jay showed up promptly when he said he would, took a look at the problem, and quoted me a very reasonable fee to fix it. He reset the panel back in place, and secured it with nails to prevent it from coming off again. When he was finished, he told me that the job was easier and quicker than he initially thought, and reduced his fee. While Jay was at my property, I asked him several new homeowner questions, which he patiently answered. Based on my experience, I think Jay is skilled and knowledgeable at what he does, is honest and is very reasonable. I know that I will be calling him for my future needs.

and quot;How'd it go?and quot; Excellently. I anticipated 2 to 3 hours, it was done in a little over 1. I do not have the temperament for this work, the knowledge of the tools needed, nor the experience which made Jay's service ideally suited. There were several small obstacles encountered that would have made me explode but Jay immediately knew how to handle each one. He didn't even acknowledge them as problems. The one genuine fitting problem encountered had a clear solution and it was handled very casually and quickly.

Jay is great! Quick to return calls and was able to fit me into his busy schedule. He took his time and did a rough estimate over the phone. His work was quick and done very well. Jay even offered to save us $$ by offering to get supplies needed and bring them on his follow up trip. Couldn't ask for anything more! Would def. use him again and recommend him to friends!

Obviously this was not a major work event -- but everything we asked for went extremely well.

It went well. He is very willing and very pleasant. He gave me a list of all of the services that he provides.
