Dolphin Insulation came to my home to do a "Home Energy Diagnosis." When I scheduled the visit, they explained that there would be a fee of $190, unlike the free MassSave energy audits, because they were more thorough than the free audits. The Dolphin representative spent a couple of hours walking around the house and taking measurements, but did not collect any information on my energy use or conduct any tests (e.g., testing for air leaks or air turnover). What I received a couple of weeks later was not a diagnosis, but rather a proposal for tens of thousands of dollars of insulation work. If you already know that you want to do a major overhaul of your home's insulation, it may be worth paying $190 to get a proposal from Dolphin, since their other reviews here for insulation work seem to be pretty positive. But if you're just exploring options, it may make sense to start with other firms, most of which will provide free estimates, before you pay $190 for a proposal for work you may not be able to afford. In any case, it's important to note that the Dolphin "Home Energy Diagnosis" is just a paid proposal, not an energy audit. I did end up doing an audit/diagnosis with MassSave. It didn't cost anything, they examined pretty much the same things as Dolphin but also collected data on my historical energy use so that they could estimate potential savings, and they provided a wider range of solutions at a variety of price points, from small to major investments.

Dolphin was one of the only insulation companies I talked with that was willing to come out and look at our attic situation and offer solutions. The insulation expert they sent out to do the research and price out the job was the most knowledgable insulation person I've ever dealt with. He took the time to go through all of the problems and the suggested solutions. He explained in detail every aspect of the plan and exactly what he was going to accomplish. The crew that showed up was ON-TIME, professional, courteous, and worked tirelessly to finish the work on time. They left every day explaining how far along in the project they were and took the time to cleanup. At the end of the project they went through and cleaned so well that it looked as if they were never there. The office staff was helpful and polite and made sure everything was going well. Dolphin is a company that makes all of the other horrible experiences I've had with contractors give me faith that there are some good ones out there. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

They were very informative. Working with Mass Energy for the energy audit was not that easy. However, Dolphin waas perfect.

They did a great job, with some caveats. They were nice, clean & thorough. There are three items that keep me from given them a solid "A" grade. 1) The sales/project engineer cut a small hole in the ceiling (in a closet) to determine whether the old part of the roofhad insulation, which was fine. He found none so we agreed I'd be charged $50 a bag for insulation removal if some was found. As it happened, the entire old part of of the roof was insulated and 12 bags were removed, which was $600. So, I think they should certainly have cut more than one exploratory holes. 2) For good reasons, they had to break through a wall unexpectedly. They did fix the wall (although it does need additional proper finishing and painting). As a result of this, I suggested to the sales/project engineer that since this added to my cost unexpectedly, and because of the extra $600 expense (due to the unexpected roof insulation issue), Dolphin consider not charging me the full $600 for the extra bags of insulation. I asked him to think about it and let me know, and I mentioned that I would comment on how this turned out on Angie's list. He never got back to me, and indeed I never spoke to him again, which leads me to point 3). The lead project engineer with whom I worked to figure out what the job was, with whom I negotiated the contract, and with whom I dealt with issues as they arose during the work was a complete no-show at the end of the job. I did not talk him on the last day and never heard from him again, despite the outstanding issue mentioned above. I certainly expected some kind of discussion at the end, which never happened.

Fantastic people to deal with from the initial energy audit through cleanup after the job. One of the reasons I went with Dolphin was my dealings with David P, their on-staff engineer. David came by for the initial energy audit and was not only incredibly knowledgable in building sciences but a real pleasure to deal with. He outlined the different options and how they would address both reducing my energy costs but also minimizing the chances of ice dams. The crew did the work we agreed to over 3 days. I'm very meticulous when it comes to caring for my home, and the crew was incredibly thorough in both protecting the finished areas of the house as well as cleaning up after the job was completed. I'm allergic to fiberglass and they went out of their way to minimize my exposure to it. Each day the crew arrived on-time and were great to deal with, answering any questions or concerns I have. When the work was done, David stopped by to discuss all the work and they even sent before and after pictures of all the work. I can't say enough good things about David and the other fine folks I dealt with at Dolphin. As a final unbiased review of the quality of their work, my town building inspector stopped by to inspect the final product and even he raved about the excellent job they did. Dolphin has my highest recommendation.

I was looking for a quote to have a residential new construction project insulated and this was the response I received " The cost of consulting is $125/hr. The cost of an assessment is $190.". I'm 50+ years old and the GC on the project and I've never paid for a quote for anything in my entire life and don't plan to start now.

People were nice when they showed up, they seemed courteous. The job was much larger than what they planned for. They thought it would be a 1 day job- but was 2.5 days in the end. The work was well done, they cleaned up and seemed polite. I was also impressed that you could not even tell where the insulation was blown in- they did a great job patching up the holes to leave the house just the way they found it. After the work was complete, I did provide feedback and the owner was very receptive. She listened to my feedback and made sure it was shared with the staff. I appreciated their response and being receptive to feedback and continuously striving to meet the needs of their customers.

We learned a lot about our building envelope and various strategies for insulation from David. Ultimately, we didn't decide to move forward with Dolphin on any of the work due to the high cost. What did impress us was David/Dolphin's perfectionism -- if you can afford it, they are very focused on achieving the highest level of insulation with attention to every detail. In our case, we are paying 1/2 to 1/3 the price Dolphin quoted for spray foam to achieve similar insulation values. For instance, on one attic/roof, Dolphin quoted $20,000 (which included blown-in cellulose and rigid board for insulation plus re-decking and trim wood on the roof). We are paying $6,000 for spray foam on that roof (without the re-decking and trim wood, which aren't necessary with spray foam). Overall, paying Dolphin $150 for the audit was worth it. But we do wish that Dolphin had been a bit more upfront about the premium price they charge for their work.

They were very good. We would use them in the future.

I contacted Dolphin back in March to get the MassSave recommendations implemented. Right from the get go, they were very professional in their replies, very prompt in answering any questions, letting you in detail what needs to be done and doing work meticulously. I wish there are more companies like them who are so customer oriented, professional and most importantly ethical! I am very impressed by the company and their work to say the least and have no second thoughts recommending them. Keep up the good work folks! Cheers!

They were very professional. For example, they put down flooring protectors inside our home prior to doing the work. Because of the quality of the work we had them replace two failing sofits vents as well. They need to be onsite all day because of the scope of work, but made sure they cleaned up after themselves. Would definitely use them again.

We used Dolphin Insulation via the Mass Saves program. They scheduled a date with us and came at a prompt time. The two contractors were very friendly and were very respectful of our home. They arrived and performed the work over the course of a few hours. They definitely did a GREAT job because this winter has been extremely cold, now our house stayed much warmer and our oil furnace runs far less than it did in previous warmer winters. I recommend them to everyone I know. I would definitely use them again.

On the day of the job it was extremely cold and temperature was below zero. The workers were very professional. they cover all the areas which needed work with cloth and also cover their shoes. There was no disruptions and inconvenience to us in any way. The lead technician was very thorough and took time to explain exactly what they were doing. We have a small dog and they were very understanding. They completed the job on time and as promised. We were extremely happy with Dolphin's employees and their professionalism. This company was recommended by our neighbor and we are very happy that we chose them to do the job.

They were very professional, arrived on time, and cleaned up well. The communication before and during was excellent. I would use them again.

A wonderful experience from the booking through to the cleanup. Installing insulation isn't the cleanest process, but these guys did a fantastic job and I would recommend them to anyone looking make their house a little more energy efficient. The company also handled all of the rebate paperwork directly so all we ended up needing to pay was the difference. A great experience all around.

I have no complaints. I have some other issues that I have to work out before I can have them come back and actually do a job for me. I did pay them for the consult, which I thought was done very well. They spent a lot of time with me and went over everything with me very clearly. I had a good experience with that side of it but I just didn’t actually have any work done. I plan to have it done but I just can’t get it done right now. The delivered the report to me and the turnaround was less than a week. Everything went really smoothly and it was very professional. I have no issues whatsoever.

I used Mass Save program to determine if I need insulation around the house, and they told me I only need insulation from attic. (and the price is more than 1000, and because of the rebate from masssave, I only have to pay around 200). I found dolphin insulation from the list Mass Save gave me. They came here three times, first time they come they found out that the co level is too high and ask me to fix it otherwise it will be dangerous. Several vehicle and staff came, they are very friendly; Second time they come, they found that there are some squirrel living in the attic, they have to schedule another time again; Last time they are able to finish the project. They did a pretty good job adding the insulation. There are squirrel feces and smell bad, but they are able to work around them and the smell are gone after the work is done (not sure if cleaned or covered by insulation materials). The insulation they added seems very solid, and I can feel a big temperature difference when I enter the attic. It`s a pleasure to work with them, I`ll recommend them to any of my friends!

I was pleased by the attention paid to discussing the kind of insulation that would be used. My son has asthma and the company discussed the insulation material with me at length. It is an environmentally safe material. The company was very prompt. We went through the Mass Saves program and there was some confusion regarding the scope of work when the company arrived for the job and they handled it very professionally. My only complaint was some slight damage to the siding on our home as part of the process.

We had a MassSave energy audit -- needless to say we had terrible insulation and little to no sealing. Dolphin was our choice contractor based on a recommendation from our neighbor and Angie's List reviews. The crew from Dolphin exceeded expectations. They were prompt, clean, and professional. They went above-and beyond -- taking additional steps (beyond what was in their statement of work) to appropriately insulate our home. Our home is noticeably more comfortable vs prior to their work; I'm sure our annual oil bill will be less painful.

They showed up on time, worked hard, and completed the job ahead of schedule. They did a great job cleaning up every day and were very pleasant.

Charged $150 for the "assessment" which no other company did. They made it seem as if they would be doing more than other companies to determine insulation needs, but they did not do more (we had several other companies also come to determine needs and give pricing). The person recommended, among other things, that old existing insulation be removed and gave a price. We decided to go with another company that was highly rated on Angie's List in part due to their lower pricing on removing old insulation. We still thought we would use Dolphin for the actual insulating due to their focus on using cellulose and called several times with no response back. Finally got through to person who did the assessment and he indicated they would not do business with us because we went with another company for removing old insulation because of a lower price. His tone and demeanor was haughty and totally unprofessional. There was no appreciation or recognition of consumer needs regarding cost as well as quality of work. The message was "do it all with us or we won't do business with you."

Everything went very well! It was amazing! I was very impressed with them. They were on time and did what they were supposed to do. Their clean up was done very well. I have a three year old and they ensured everything was cleaned up before they left. They went above and beyond. I would definitely recommend them to others.

The team worked quickly and efficiently. Questions were answered clearly and honestly.

There is a program here in Massachusetts where the local electric agency will send out a representative to assess your home. They provided a report of what needed to be done and a list of companies who could complete the work. We chose Dolphin because they had great ratings. There were three people on the job and it took about eight hours. They were very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. We were very satisfied. The work was done in the August for the winter and we could tell in the summer that the rooms were much cooler. Now, our whole entire house is much warmer. Everything turned out great! I would recommend them to others and would hire them again.
