Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal with a value of $300. Should be enough to get some real work done. When the estimator came over, it turned out that that would only cover a trimming of an arborvitae hedge, not even a long hedge. Then, in that meeting he also convinced me to spend an extra $150 to fertilize some small shrubs. To me this was one job, driven by the Angies List coupon. Within several weeks, they ostensibly sent someone over to fertilize some shrubs and billed me. I wasn't home so I cannot comment on the work or even whether it was done. Yes, they left a flier saying they were there. Then I received a series of bills for the work to fertilize the shrubs, but I did not hear back from the company about trimming the hedge. Thus my initial objections about this company's conduct began to grow. I called them and asked that they not force me to pay extra when the Angies List coupon had not been honored. I objected to the fact they were getting more money from me without honoring the coupon I purchased. I said I would be happy to pay the $150 after the Angies list coupon was honored. They would not consider my objections, and said that I had to pay the extra money. You would think that they would not blow a relationship over $150, but they did not seem to care, they wanted their $150 and that was the beginning and end of it, no flexibility whatsoever. Then my obections to this company spread to the fact that they took over 6 weeks to follow up with me to make an appointment for the trimming of the hedge, and the process of making that appointment has made my estimation of the company fall even farther. My initial appointment where I received the estimate was on September 18th. I did not hear back from them to make an appointment for the trimming of the hedge until after November 1st, and only after I objected to the fact they were forcing me to pay for one portion of the job before they honored the Angies list coupon. As it happened, I received one message, then a follow-up call from the office. The woman in the office intimated that the guy had called me several times, like I was not returning his call, but the truth is that I got one call, and it was on a date when I was having a medical procedure, and it was not a good time for me to be returning calls. The guy did call back again, and I spoke with him on the phone. He offered to "fit me in" the following day. He gave me less than 24 hours notice. When I said that I needed more notice since I work full time outside the house, he could not hide his annoyance. Then, when I said further that I wanted to be home when the work was done so that I could be comfortable that the hedge was being trimmed as I would like, he totally lost it. He was completely dismissive of my concerns, and told me that "everyone else" just meets them at the job in the morning, confer about what needs to be done, then they do their work and the owner does not need to be there. I mentioned that I felt I wanted to be there so that I can ensure that they don't cut too much or too little. Afterall, if they cut too much, there is not much one can do about it after the fact. The employee was completely dismissive of my desire to be present, and even insulting to me. He all but hung up on me. I use deals like this to find companies I can trust and engage over the long run. When I was discussing the fact I did not want to pay the $150 until I got the benefit of the Angies List coupon, I told this to the person at the company and she was not moved. I felt like long term relationships were not important to them. They just wanted the short term cash, and could care less about relationships.
