Description of Work: Removed previously damaged branches and trimmed other overhanging , and threatening branches of my org maple tree. |The owner came out and assessed the job promptly. Gave an honest assessment of what ideally should be done. But too expensive. No pressure. Did what I requested. Workers were on time , in fact early.

It was fine though it took a while to actually come out and do the work once they gave me the quote. But it was because they were very busy. They did a great job and did exactly what needed to be done. They cleaned up well afterwards. I spent an additional $400 because it was a significant pruning job. I have already recommended them to several neighbors. They were very knowledgeable and knew what to do. They were very helpful. They were in the ball park of the price and their expertise was worth it.

Jeff was very professional and provided me with an estimate to show my neighbors. I was surprised that the price was several hundred dollars over the $300 I paid for "Angie's Big Deal," but it seems that that often happens -- the Angie's Deal is just a down-payment for a much higher total bill. The $950 total was not exorbitantly high for the amount of tree work done, and they cleaned up the area reasonably well afterward. Quite a lot of wood chip debris left in the driveway and one small rhododendron casualty, but otherwise no damage. Overall, a job well done.

Put tree down and did some fall cleaning in some bushes. I thought the cost for the whole job was good until I saw how the tree logs were left...could have been done in a better way as it wouldn't require too much work. The guy who went there to evaluate the job was very nice and polite and never tried to push other services which I really appreciated.

Our issue with the provider is that he did EXACTLY what was discussed with my husband, despite the fact that there were dead branches we couldn't see until it was done. He made no attempt to find out from me (I was home) whether I would like to add to the job in order to finish it professionally and properly, either at that time or after the job was done. When we contacted him and presented this, he came back and looked, but still was unwilling to do anything more than the original deal required.

They were very responsive with my initial call. The arborist scheduled an appointment to check out the job and provided an estimate within a week. Our meeting was pleasant. I showed him the trees that needed to be removed. He seemed knowledgeable and explained some of the limitations of the tree removal due to the close proximity to a chain link fence. There were other trees that I had questions about and we discussed the options. One tree had some dead branches that he agreed to trim. Another tree, a kousa dogwood, had sentimental value to me but was a bit over sized for its location. It was very close to my garage and my neighbors garage and was being crowded by an evergreen. We discussed relocating it which would be difficult and not something that Savatree handled. He suggested trimming 6' to 8' from the top which would make it a little shorter than the garage and look much better in its current location. I thought it was a great suggestion. I stated that although the evergreen was in great condition, I was only concerned about the dogwood at this time. Since Savatree didn't move trees, I wanted to explore the possibility of moving the evergreen before deciding to cut it down. In addition, my neighbor had some trees that she needed to have trimmed as well. He offered a discount if we both had the work done on the same day. I received the estimate which was reasonable and with the Big Deal and the discount the entire job was very a affordable. However, I had difficulty purchasing the Big Deal due to a computer glitch of some sort and then there was a mix up with the notification and communication between the Lincoln and Middlesex offices. Once that got resolved, it took a couple weeks to get on their schedule which was not a problem. The morning the work was to be done, the arborist arrived with the two men who were doing the work. The arborist explained all of the work that was contracted and left while the men prepared their gear. It became very clear very quickly that this was not a compatible team. One guy was apparently experienced, knowledgeable and prepared, while the other seemed clueless and disinterested. The work started with the kousa dogwood. Although they were instructed to take 6' feet or so off of the top, the first snip was one of the lower branches. I was unaware that he even had a pair of pruning shears in his hand when it happened. Fortunately, I was able to stop further destruction, so I thought. As I was explaining that I did not want the lower branches touched, the arborist returned. He offered to trim the dogwood while the others tended to cutting down the trees along the fence. Since he had instructed the other guys on what needed to be done to the kousa dogwood, I didn't expect that he would do anything else. However, he started cutting branches out of the middle of the tree at the trunk. I told him that he wasn't supposed to be touching those branches. His response was that the tree is healthy and it will fill out next year. Next thing I see is that he clipped branches that were encroaching on the evergreen, those too were not to be touched. After cutting a few at the top, he asked if that was enough. He kept cutting more branches that were growing horizontally rather than vertically. I tried to point that out to him but it didn't seem to make any difference. Instead of checking it out himself to be sure that he had done the job, he kept asking me if it were good enough. I was so upset about the fact that he was not doing what was planned that I told him to just stop. In the mean time, the guys who where cutting the other trees did what they thought was enough. I wanted even more branches cut from the one large tree remaining but I was told it was not "necessary." It seemed to me that the crew member in the tree was having such a hard time with the other guy that he just wanted to get the job done and over. While one guy "cleaned up" the other went to a third job, not originally scheduled, across the street. After reviewing what they had done, I questioned why they didn't cut the trees closer to the ground. The response was that the fence was too close. A bit of a lame excuse but I did not believe that it was worth arguing. I contacted the arborist who did come back to review the job. He sent another couple of guys to "finish the job" and clean up. The second crew did a somewhat better job but there were still small logs left on my property, the large tree stump was not cut as close to the ground our the fence as it could have been and the kousa dogwood was still towering over my garage and no longer as full as it should still be. I also later learned that the crew cut down my neighbors Rose of Sharon due to lack of attention, knowledge and/or interest. I believe the Rose of Sharon was replaced. I was informed that the guy with the bad attitude in the first crew was no longer with Savatree, as if that would make me feel better about the work that was done. Overall, it was a big disappointment and it breaks my heart whenever I look at my kousa dogwood. I hope it does fill in, I had to delay writing this review in order to eliminate the emotion and just provide the facts. I hope that this has been helpful from all perspectives.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal of $300 tree service for $140. They quickly came out and provided an estimate for the service we needed. It ended up costing us an additional $160 more. Having received quotes from other tree service companys in the area, I realized we were still saving money. After a couple of weeks, they came out and performed the service. They actually cut more than we originally requested and cleaned everything up. It went great.

I was very pleased with the work that was done for me. I have a Yew hedge that I wanted hand pruned. I think the result is a more natural looking hedge and the inside branches receive light and will therefore stay alive. This kind of pruning is far more labor intensive than using a hedge trimmer. The burning bush did not require great dexterity but it was done quickly and professionally. The final task that was done was the trimming of an overgrown holly. This was a big and prickly job. The best part was that I was able to save the holly stalks to put in holiday planters. All around, it was a good experience. I highly recommend this company.

Jeff responded quickly to our request for an estimate. He explanations of the work were very helpful. The crew came on the appointed day. We were leaving for vacation on the following day, a Saturday. We noticed that some of the yews were not trimmed as expected. We took a picture that showed the problem, and sent it to Jeff. He had the problem corrected on the following Monday, and sent us a picture to show the work had been completed. Our yard has not looked this good in years!
