I am going to write a book about them because they were that terrible. They were awful from the start. They gave me a quote on a napkin and then took the napkin. I had so many red flags but I went with it because I liked the price. When I was at the hardware store picking up the wood I called him and asked him if he had worked on that kind of wood before because it was a new product; he confirmed to me that he had worked on it and I could get it. I spend $1,500 to redo the majority of the work what I had them do. They redid my stairs and they had to be ripped up completely. Two days after they left my floor started splitting in a couple of places so I called him. They took about 2-3 weeks to come back and when they finally came back they argued with my husband. My husband asked him if he was proud of the work that was done and they said they were not and wanted to charge me $200 more even though it was their fault; at this point I just wanted them out of my house and wanted to get someone who knows what they were doing. I am still picking up cigarettes from my driveway; it has just been a disaster. This started in February and I just had the flooring guys finish last Sunday. They did not take that long to finish the work and seemed like they were not familiar with this wood; it is the new click and lock wood flooring. I was tripping down on the floor whenever I walked on it because the floor was lower than what it was supposed to be. When I had the new floorer come in they said that if I had to sell the house then I would have to completely rip out the floor because whatever they did was not even the code. I preferred to spend $1,500 on somebody who knew what they were doing rather than give them $200 more dollars to fix a mistake that they admitted that they did. I was going to complain right away to Angie’s List but they came over here with some big guys so I was a little nervous to say everything that I wanted to say. I saved for years to put this floor in and I have done all the other work in this house myself. I wish I had done it myself because it has just been months and now when I look at it I become upset because there was so much negativity about it. The floor was not level when they were putting in the flooring so instead of stopping the project to level the floor or let me know they just put the flooring on top of the unlevel floor so if people walk on certain areas of my room then it would sick. I learned my lesson by going with a cheap quote and got what I did. The quote was inclusive of the furniture that had to be moved and though they had seen what they were quoting for when they came back they wanted $200 more because the furniture was heavier than what they thought it would be. I gave him the money without complaining and I felt like I was in bargaining for a fake Gucci bag because everything felt so not legitimate with them. I paid him more money and they ended up banging my furniture.

We heard about Jim through a friend -- Jim had done an excellent job refinishing his hardwood floors. Our situation -- we recently purchased a home with approximately 1800 square feet of hardwood floors. We knew they needed work, but the contractors we spoke with quoted a figure between $3500-$5000. Just when thought we'd have to do the work ourselves, our friend told us about Jim. Jim quoted $2000 to sand, replace a few pieces of damaged wood, and put on two coats of semi-gloss polyurethane. The job took one week to complete and all we can say is... wow! The floors look fantastic! Jim and his two co-workers were always professional, polite, and focused -- he's a true find. We would hire him again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: Repair, refinish (sand) and apply two coats of polyurethane to 4 bedrooms, hallway, 14 steps, living room, dining room, family room, and kitchen, totaling 1800 square feet of hardwood floors.
