For reasons only a racoon would understand, they were clawing up the rubber roof and water was leaking into the room below from behind the walls. Ten and his crew sawed through the deck, repaired the roofing, and then repaired the deck above in one day. No problems since. I can also recommend a racoon removal service. ;-l

+ 0 moreI chose Arya Roofing from recommendations by Angie's List patrons. The estimate was the most reasonable of several companies and all contact was prompt, as was the actual work done. Ten Arya came immediately and patched a leak in my the roof beforehand - at no extra cost.The men began a day earlier than scheduled. Two days only - and my roof and gutters are new and even improved! I couldn't be happier with the efficiency, friendliness and quality of the work. The clean up was thorough. Ten's suggestions and help went beyond the service he provided, and i have asked him back to install a new skylight - an unexpected benefit. Another added bonus was the 5% Angie's List Member discount!! I couldn't figure out how to print out the coupon, but Ten trusted me and added the discount into the contract. I strongly recommend Arya Roofing. No qualifications. They are terrific.

He was thorough in delivering his estimate , fully explaining all our options. Additionally, his pricing was quite reasonable vs other bids that we had received. His team came in and finished the job in a day. There were some nails left in the grass, but that was to be expected. Overall, they were great to work with. I would recommend Arya Roofing to anyone that needs roofing work done.

+ -1 moreIt went fantastically. This is a decent and thorough and responsive man who worked well with us and drove hsi crew hard but treated them with respect --and it showed in the final result. His crew were energetic, hard working and very well-tempered. My wife works at home and remarked how nice it was to hear the crew on the roof laughing and joking as they stripped and hammered and hauled heavy material up and down long ladders. They were friendly and polite to us. They responded well to being treated nicely by their clients, and probably went the extra mile for us. Again and again, there were moments where unforeseen problems arose, where they had to accommodate the insulation contractor or the 3rd contractor who was prepping the foundations for a deck on our neighbor's side. And those were the moments that many contractors would have kept quiet and cut corners, or blown smoke up my you-know-what. Not Mr. Arya. I could sometimes see the worry on his face at what it would cost him in time or his profit margins. We discussed it, I understood his predicament, we negotiated with the other contractors, but it was all worked out quickly and honorably. The stripping job was bigger than he'd . There was a lot of old shingle and additional layers of old rubber and tar paper he hadn't bargained on. He had to bring in a 2nd dumpster as a result. He didn't charge me for that. There were no cost overruns. He accommodated our neighbor when she reversed herself a couple of times on the installation of a skylight and did it patiently and politely. When they were done, and the new white roof was scuffed and marked by the old tar that was on the crew's boots, he had them go up the day after they were done and wipe the roof down with solvent to clean it. I spent two years --not by design but perforce-- researching roofing work and spoke to many contractors, including contractor friends who advised me behind the scenes. I saw how sloppily and wrongly the previous contractor's roof work was. This newly-minted roof is a thing of beauty. Winter hasn't come yet, it's true, and who knows, there may be some nasty surprises, but I really, really doubt it. Plus, he repeatedly said that he would come back if any problems arose and not to hesitate to call. Great contractors are precious. I have no choice but to spread the word about him. I recommend him and his crew without reservations.
Description of Work: Arya Roofing, owned by the decent and meticulous Ten Arya, reroofed most of our 2-family condo last week. The job consisted of reshingling two shingle mansards slopes and two flat roofs, one larger/higher and one lower smaller. The flat roofs were replaced with slightly more expensive, but increasingly common, and longer lasting white rubber roofing.

+ -1 moreso, I sign up for angie's list, thinking I could stop wasting my time....I need roof repairs, called Arya Contracting; Ten calls me back, we make an appt., he doesn't show up (a saturday am, I really do have other things to do besides wait around) so I call him, "oh, he had lost my contact info...." could he come over later in evening?..sure, I'll wait..He shows, discusses, fine, gave me no indication how big a scale project, pricewise it might be, but did say he was booked through December. That was ok with me, I'd wait, if he was worth it. He asks me to email him. No response. I call again. no answer. I email him again, no reply (2 weeks later: nada. ) Oh why oh why don't contractors just say they aren't interested and stop wasting people's time/

+ -1 moreArya was one of 4 bids I received and Ten, the owner,came in with a good price. He set a deadline for work that was delayed a couple of days by lots of rain. When his crew showed up they attacked the place and finished all removal and half re-roofing in one day, and the rest of the roof the next day. They cleaned up very well, protected my tomato garden from any damage. Just did a great job.
Description of Work: Arya tore off all shingles on my two story roof and replaced them with new architectural shingles.

+ -1 moreThe project went extremely well from start to finish. I received quotes from four other vendors prior to selecting Arya for the work. Arya was the middle option in terms of price (not the cheapest or the most expensive) and was selected based on the professionalism demonstrated during the quoting process and other reviews on Angies list. The owner (Ten) was by far the most complete in his quote (in terms of making sure I understood all the different aspects of the work that would be performed), and extremely professional during the myriad questions that followed the initial quote. This same level of professionalism continued while the work was actually completed. The work started exactly (literally to the minute) when it was supposed to and was completed well within the time expectation that was set. Additionally, the work came in exactly as quoted in terms of cost. I would highly recommend Arya Roofing to others.

They actually came earlier than he had estimated the start which was lucky as they started on a Monday finished on a Wednesday and we had the Blizzard or 2013 on Friday with a new roof! They cleaned up each day and left not a scrap behind. I would recommend Arya to anyone.

In his assessment, he thought likely that it was an issue caused during the initial roofing. That it was structurally sound and roofing, as is protected the structure. He did point out some additional build issues, but given age of roof and lack of persistent issues it was better to wait until roof replacement to correct them. He offered to provide an estimate, but baed on assessment I felt I wasted enough of his time already, I offered to pay for the assessment which he refused.

Description of Work: I contacted Arya Roofing to have someone go up on the roof of a new home I was purchasing. The inspector wouldn't go on the roof due to the height and slope of the roof but guessed the roof looked fine. I contacted Arya Roofing and said I wasn't interested in doing more than just having someone go on my roof and let me know how it looked and what if any improvements were needed. They came out when they said they would, climbed right up on the roof and took pictures. The roof turns out was in good shape and is relatively new. I tried to pay the person for their time and they would not take any money and kept saying estimates are free. There was no estimate because there was nothing needing work. But I felt very bad that I couldn't pay him for his time. They were very nice, courteous and professional. When my roof does need work I will call Arya.

+ -1 moreI have two smaller side roofs where the roofing seems to have taken more of a beating than the main roof. Also one of the roofs which was partly over a converted porch had old "rolled" asphalt product rather than actual shingles. So I wanted to have them re-done before winter. Ten was right in the ball park of other estimates and had recently done some similar work for a neighbor so I decided to go with Arya Roofing partly on the neighbors review and partly on Angie's List and Yelp reviews (which were all great). The original estimate was for replacing the roofing and any rotted boards only, but soon had to be amended. It was not a surprise when Ten notified me that after removing the roofing the found other issues. My house it 100+ years old and the previous owners were very short sighted and cheap when it came to home repairs/projects. It turned out that a section of over-hanging roof added when converting a porch to a mud room had not been properly attached or secured and was at risk of falling off altogether. And worse yet it was pulling some of the other roof supports away from the main house. Ten gave me a reasonable estimate to fix it all and long story short I am extremely happy with the result and it only took about 1/2 day longer than originally planned. On top of the roofing they also re-attached some of my gutters that were pulling away from the house. One of the key things that made me really comfortable with the work was that Ten would call and walk me through every issue and make sure I understood what the issue was and what he could do to address it. This even involved emailing me lots of photos as the found each issue and as they fixed them. The team was always professional and cleaned up at the end of the day.
Description of Work: Replace the roofing on two smaller side roofs and fix some gutters that were coming loose.

+ -1 moreProblems still exist so I called Ten back. After a couple tries I finally reached Ten. He said he was going away for a week but to call him back when he returned. So I did. I had to leave a message but unfortunately, Ten never responded. Some time has passed so I thought I'd give Ten another try. Given all the positive feedback, I figured it was worth another try. Luckily, it's been a dry summer! I called a few days ago and had to leave another message. So far, I've yet to receive a call back. I suspect Ten is off on another project and overbooked. What I have a problem with is returning calls...even if it's just to tell me that he's too busy or unable to help. Updated Feedback (10/5/2012) - My initial experience with Arya Roofing was unpleasant. However, I gave Ten a couple chances to make good and I believe he has. It remains to be seen if the problem is fixed but I believe he did the best he could given the circumstances. My recommendation to Arya Roofing would be to hire more people! You're clearly in demand. He adjusted some flashing and we agreed to give it some time to see if the adjustment worked. Ten said to call back if I had any problems. + -1 moreThe very first time I encountered Tenzin he came right over within 2 hours of my first telephone conversation. He inspected the entirety of my roof. Spent a great deal of time and came down with multiply photos of about 12 to 15 problem areas of my several roofs. He explained each area and how to best treat each situation. During and after each day of the week spent on my roof by his crew they were constantly cleaning up as they went along. At the end of each day they left my property spotless with hardly any sign of 5 guys tearing apart my roof and reconstructing sections. There was no cursing, no loud blaring radios. They were totally respectful of both my property and my experience. His price was completely fair. There were a few surprises through-out the process. Most of them did not engender additional costs.
Description of Work: THIS GUY IS AWESOME. Believe me awesome is not a word I use often. Tenzin is the man. I have a huge roof consisting of three different roofs. The house is a Victorian so there are about a dozen valleys. There are three chimneys. Of course each chimney has flashing on four sides. In a nutshell my roof is a roofer's nightmare. Plus the house is 122 years old. Since the roof is the most important structural / protective member of the building construction it is absolutely vital that every single square inch of it be 100% every second of every rainy, snowy, stormy day and night. Tenzin is the one and only person I trust to work on my roof, gutters, chimneys, flashing, downspouts and attendant structural members. He is extremely well versed in his trade. Tenzin is: HONEST STRAIGHT FORWARD COMMUNICATIVE TRUSTWORTHY REASONABLY PRICED PUNCTUAL TO EVERY APPOINTMENT for the past 8 years! EASY TO REACH BY PHONE & EMAIL I recently referred him to a doctor client of mine and this is exactly what I wrote him regarding Tenzin: I would use Tenzin over any other roofer on the face of the earth. Yes I have used him 10 to 20 times. And I have personally witnessed / watched him work. In addition to lots of easy jobs........ I had the worst of all possible tasks and he performed it with INCREDIBLE skill and brought to it TREMENDOUS innovation. Since I do not trust roofers. In the past I would only trust my roof to a friend of my wife's, but he aged-out and contracted a debilitating illness. The problem with roofers is you can rarely watch / supervise their work. Out of site is NEVER TO BE TRUSTED. Because roofing is such awful work it attracts very rough types with the low end of integrity. Since integrity is the key to a positive outcome I look for that first and foremost in tradesmen. My multiply positive experiences with Tenzin is the sole reason I call him and only him to deal with my roof issues. I use him solely to clean out my gutters and pay him MORE then he asks me for. When I find someone I TRUST. I TRUST HIM and I PAY HIM and I continue to let him know I respect him. My roof is the MOST IMPORTANT structural element of my house. And in my case I actually have 3 roofs and 3 chimneys and lots of valleys. Being a 4600sf Queen Anne Victorian of vintage 1888 is a giant issue.Also, as an aside...... Companies with employees vs. ONE MAN operations are a disaster waiting to happen. One man operations engender CARING.

+ -1 moreThe entire project was painless. Ten was great at providing a very specific quote for what materials he would be using and why. He came to our house to explain everything with the proposal and even had his iPad to show me photos of other roofs and materials to help explain what he was charging for and why. One of his workers' foot went through our front porch floor retrieving some debris (our porch is the next project) and Ten came the next week to fix the floorboard eventhough it really was our problem. Nicest guy and great company.
Description of Work: Ten Arya and his team installed a new roof system on our house after we has some issues with ice daming on the 20+ year old roof. Our roof was not properly ventilated, so Ten installed a ridge vent and soffit vents in addition to the multiple weather proofing layers and shingles. His team was on-time and the work was done exactly how and when they said it would be.

+ -1 moreThis is the second roof Ten has completed for me. Just like the first time, Ten was quick to return my call and provide a detailed estimate. He got up on the roof, walked it and took pictures to show me areas of concern, all before submitting an estimate. Of the three quotes I received, Ten was the only roofer to go to this length before submitting his estimate. The others did a simple walk around and measurement without even going up on the roof. The proposal came back quickly and the price was competitive with the others I received. Given my first experience with Ten, I did not hesitate to move forward with him on this project. From start to finish, Ten and his crew were meticulous and thoughtful. Ten handled all the building permits and inspections (which is no easy task in Somerville from what I've heard). They covered my neighbors house with a tarp during the stripping process to ensure no damage to their property. They cleaned the entire yard and bagged all the debris because I didn't have a place for them to drop a dumpster. The new roof, ridge vent and chimney all came out great. Any minor issues were quickly resolved by Ten. I highly recommend him and will certainly use him again in the future.
Description of Work: Ten and his team stripped my Somerville roof, put down ice and water shield, added a ridge vent and re-roofed with architectural shingles. They also rebuilt a portion of the chimney.
